Mr. Beckett repaired a child’s rocking that was a family heirloom from Germany, made by my wife’s grandfather. A moving company broke it during a move. The chair was repaired, new caning in the seat area, and you could not even detect any of the repair work! Cost was at the given estimate amount. Timing was within estimated time. I will be giving him more heirloom repair work. Absolutely the best!
Description of Work: Repaired broken cane bottom child rocking chair, caned the seat area, cleaned.

Excellent on all counts. Mr Beckett was punctual, didn’t keep us waiting for either pickup or delivery, and the workmanship was superb. The doors look better than they did when new. And the cost was more than reasonable given the size of the doors and the ornate detailing involved.
Description of Work: Refinished three highly ornate Victorian style doors that we had custom made 15-20 years ago and had weathered badly

Mr. Beckett did a first rate job stripping the finish off, while not dissolving the glue joints that held the frame together. After a light sanding, I was able to finish it in the proper stain color. I was very happy with Mr. Beckett's work.
Description of Work: I needed to have a crib base stripped of the factory neutral finish so that I could refinish it (stain & varnish) in a color that matched a baby dressing table.

I contacted him and send up the appointment, via Angies List. He communicated well before coming and was flexible in scheduling. He arrived at the appointed time, or even a few minutes early. He looked at both chairs. Both of them needed recliner mechanism repairs. One of them needed a structural repair to the wooden wing. In doing the repairs, it was decided, one would have to go to the shop, for the structural repair to the 'wing' on the back, and the other would have to go for mechanical repairs to the base. Since the chairs were identical. the top portions were swapped, so that he only had to take ONE of the chairs. He also offerred at the time to contact the manufacturer of the chairs, LazyBoy, to get a replacement mechanism under warranty. However the chairs were so old, they did not stock the parts, so he repaired the mechanism. At the time he took the chair, he said he would supply an email with the estimate, which he did! He took the chair on the 06/18, and delivered the repaired chair back on 06/24. He called to set an appointment for the delivery of that chair, and was prompt. During the entire process, he was very communicative! He charged $195 to fix one chair, and $125 to fix the other. He does have a 'trip fee' for delivery, which in my case was $55. He does accept check and credit card, however there is a 4% fee to use a credit card. All in all, a great experience from a skilled furniture craftsman. He gave me great information about the chair, in that it used all REAL WOOD, except the for 'wings'. The mechanism was one of the older solid mechanisms, I would definately use again.
Description of Work: Repaired 2 LazyBoy chairs with various problems: - One chair was repaired in house. It was mechanical issues with the mechanism. - Another chair had to be taken to his shop

The work is well done --- down to matching the antique finish on pieces where only part of the piece needed reworking. Tim Beckett is polite and professional and my experience with him has shown that he is as good as his word when he schedules pick up and delivery times. It was a real pleasure to work with him. He was thorough in his estimates and there were no surprises. I recommend him unhesitatingly. Beckett will be working on some more pieces for me after the new year and I anticipate being just as happy with these as I am with the pieces that were just returned. They had glass cut to fit a tea cart, took care of staining, rub marks, and gouges, and beautifully mended the leg of a mid 19th century desk that had snapped off. The coffee table and bureau that were completely refinished are just lovely. I couldn't be happier.

He took the time to completely disassemble the joints that were loose and clean off all dried adhesive. Then he applied new adhesive and reassembled, clamped and cleaned the chair. Working out of his home, it was a little hard to find his location even with his address in my GPS. I was surprised at how expensive the repair was, but considering how much work he put into making the repair it was a fair price.

Response from Beckett Furniture Repair
We do not work out of my home. I sometimes have a customer meet me there because its easier to get to just off the high-way. Plus our repair shop shop is not open to the "walk in" public, we are a repair shop only not a normal retail store. [removed member name] was given the repair estimate up front and he agreed to it before any work was started and he agreed to it.

Mr. Beckett was so professional and the work was impeccable. He provided a written estimate so that we knew what to expect. Both sets of chairs have sentimental value because they came from family, so we preferred to repair them rather than buy new furniture. Two of the dining chairs had been damaged in a recent move and the moving company had someone repair them. The man did a terrible job and left them in worse shape than when he began. Mr. Beckett took care with all of the chairs, including the ones that the other repairman had "fixed." The kitchen chairs had been neglected for decades and were in awful shape, but Mr. Beckett brought them back to life. We hope they last another 100 years bringing together family and friends for meals. We will definitely call on him again for repair work.
Description of Work: Mr. Beckett provided services for two sets of chairs. The first is a set of 6 Thomasville lyre-back dining chairs (about 60 years old). The joints were all loosening because the glue was so old. He disassembled them and re-glued them. The second is a set of 4 wooden kitchen-type chairs (about 100 years old) that were handmade. He cleaned them, stripped the old finish, re-glued and repaired all joints, and refinished them with a new stain and finish. He picked the chairs up from our house and delivered them back to us.

Everything was great! Mr. Beckett provided an accurate estimate to repair and refinish the desk. This included new veneer on the top, stripping and refinishing the desk and repairing loose joints on the drawers and desk body. The price also included pick up and delivery. Mr Beckett used a piece of burled walnut veneer for the top after he noticed that it was a great match with the rest of the desk. I think the desk is beautiful and really reflects Mr. Beckett's love of furniture!

We have an antique oak desk that has moved around the country with us. In the last move, two of its legs broke off. Tim Beckett repaired the legs, refinished the top of the desk, and cleaned the rest of the desk. The desk's top had had alcohol spilled on it by a previous owner, and before and after that the continuation of years of dust and grime. In restoring the top, which was veneer, it was discovered that the veneer is tiger oak -- a really beautiful variation of colors. Beckett did beautifully with all parts of this job! We'll call on him again.

Mr. Beckett provided an competitive bind and was chosen due to his explanation of required task, cost of repair, and friendliness. He accommodated our scheduling changes and made himself available as needed. The pedestal accent table had belonged to my grandmother and had not been used in over 50 years. Upon receipt, it looked new. The wood was a golden brown unlike the blackened wood that left our house. Discolorations had been removed and imperfections no longer existed. Mr. Beckett will be repairing/restoring more items of furniture for us.

The whole process went great. He picked up the break front from my mother-in-laws house and did the work in the timeframe that he promised (which I think was about 4 weeks) and dropped the piece back off to our house. The finished product was stunning and he took great care when he delivered the piece...wrapping separately the doors that had glass so they would survive transportation. We communicated mostly over email which worked great for me. He was responsive and always on time. Would highly recommend this individual to others.
Description of Work: Tim refinished an old break front that belonged to my husband's grandmother. We changed the color of the piece darker to match our dining room set. He also repaired some trim that had been broken off.

He said that neither piece of furniture should be a problem, and the water stain was an easy fix. Verbally, he said he thought it would be around $300, and that he would give me a written estimate after he researched the price of the casters. The oak chest of drawers turned out very nice. The antique wash stand which was "no problem" to repair, was returned with a water stain present. It was better, but the stain was still there. I did receive a written estimate of $400 before he did the work. The casters were pricey, and a furniture pick up fee had been added. He was professional, and the furniture was returned when promised. I just ended up paying more than anticipated.
Description of Work: I showed Mr. Beckett an antique wash stand that the top had water stains. I had stripped and refinished, and stain did not come out. I also showed him an antique chest of drawers that needed touched up and repaired.
