We needing to replace a broken furnace in our new home recently (11/22/2021). Our home warranty would not cover it because the owner Scott told them it didn't work at all (the heat exchange was cracked) and the unit still powered on and the blower worked. However because he told them that they would not cover it. This was the start of winter so I had no choice but to have the unit financed so they would replace it at my expense instead of going through the home warranty. I paid $4k for a unit that pushes about 1/2 the BTU of my old unit and from what I can tell sells for about $1,500. It isn't even rated for the area its covering. Then it took hit "technicians almost an entire day to install it and get the thermostat working. They eventually had to call what seemed to be a senior tech over to help them. Once it was done we realized a few weeks later that we were smelling stagnant air from the basement and I examined the area and found they had cut out and removed the return duct and never reinstalled it on the new unit. So it was pulling air from the basement and our return was CUT out with the support pieces still hanging and a big hole in the basement duct. I called to get the return put back in and was told Scott would need to take a look. He came out and weeks later had still not called me to setup getting the work done. I called back again and they got ahold of Scott and he quoted me like 1800 or something stupid. This install was not just improper but has been deemed unsafe by the county inspector. Thye have been notified to fix this immedietly to be code compliant and be able to use it again. As of about 2 weeks ago we still have not heard from them about when they will resolve this.
Response from State Heating & AC

"State heating told your warranty company the heat exchanger was cracked because the heat exchanger was cracked. We have no control over whether or not your home warranty company covers your repair and we will not lie so that they will. The unit you have does push the same BTUs as your old one. 1 full day is normal to have a furnace and chimney liner installed. State Heating ABSOLUTELY DID NOT REMOVE ANY EXISTING RETURN AIR DUCT. Upon being informed that their were charges to bring the system up to code to pass inspection to make the system safe you refused to pay them. You then took it upon yourself to call the inspector in before those modifications were done and have our job failed. We would have scheduled that inspection after the necessary code upgrades were done and paid for."

They completely changed their diagnosis in the report to the warranty company (told me it was the rusty drip pan and told company improper install) and then wouldn’t back up their claim when I asked to see any evidence of this “improper install.” Both follow up companies said it was inaccurate and the a/c was installed just fine and issue was in fact the rusty drip pan. Seems like they just didn’t want the job and lied to get out of it. Very shady tactics. Ethics & honesty are #1 so I’d give them zero stars.

I was connected with this company via American Home Shield as one of their best providers. Scott the owner did get the warranty company to send me a new furnace quickly and arrived to install it quickly but that is where the quality and follow ups stopped.I am not one to right review when I have had issues with a service provider but i have given State Heating and Air 6 weeks to get back with me on multiple concerns with the out of scope quote they and the home warranty had me agree to above and beyond the standard install the the home warranty company covered. The out of scope was almost 1700 out of pocket for me and with State Heating and Air's earlier responsiveness I agreed. I was told by the warranty company and State heating and air that i would also be getting 96% efficiency furnace but received a 92% which doesn't come with the energy credit that the 96 does and that i heard about from State heating and air. Which was a definite let down. I understand State heading and air does not determine the equipment i receive from the Home Warranty company. This out of scope included multiple adjustments since the brand i received was not the one I had originally. But it contained multiple things that they did not do during the install. I was told by the installing technician the moment he was about to leave the house after install that I had to pay right then, (not a moment before). I had questions about the items on the quote that were not needed or completed but paid in good faith noting some of the contingencies on the document i signed and the tech said he would go over them with his boss. I can only assume the quote was made as a standard they quote to the warranty company to obtain the amount they would like to make on the install instead of the warranty company's program price they signed up for. Since I cannot get them to call me back to discuss and resolve, this is what i have to assume as I have received very little details from State Heating and Air regarding the charges in question. One they did refund me for was 195 worth of carbon monoxide detectors that I have already on each floor of my home, two of which are passed on your way to my furnace from the front door. This is the only one I have been able to discuss with Scott the owner. Whom i was only able to get a hold of once regarding these matters. All my other calls have either been to leave voicemails or to the office who say they see my calls and will have the owner Scott call me as he is the only one who can go over the overcharges. Examples were 150 to run grounding for my furnace which the installing tech confirm my unit was already grounded properly. Another was 625 for Duct work on the Feed and Return. The furnace was directly under my condenser and the tech supported the condenser and ducting with a strap, slid out the old furnace and slid the new unit in its place after only the second try. I was amazed at how easy they made it look. I am not amazed or pleased at the lack of State Heating and Air's response and accountability to the overcharges they billed me. I see they have responded to reviews on these sites so I'm hoping this does the trick. UPDATE 2/26 - I updated the star rating. Scott the owner call and scheduled a visit 2 days later to look over my installation and go over the scope of work details. He confirm on his arrival that the furnace I received was able to be replaced without any additional duct work modifications as most of the furnaces need. He pulled up his invoicing system and confirmed on the spot that he was refunding my additional out of scope regarding the duct work that was originally quoted. He also apologized for my calls and attempts to contact them not getting through and assured me this is no way changes the standard warranty he give to all customers he installs for. Thank You State Heating and AC for making the trip to make this right!

Tune-up was standard, with Angie's List discount. They made three trips to put a new pipe on the humidifier, BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE LEAK. This cost an extra $225. We had to have someone else come and fix the leak, which cost about $300.
Response from State Heating & AC

"This is Scott, the Owner of State Heating and Air. First of all let me apologize for any inconvenience you have had. We stand behind anything we do. I would be more than happy to make this right with you if we made a mistake. I cannot find your name anywhere in our database. Are you sure it was my company? Could you please contact us so that we make make this right? Thank you in advance for your time."

The team at State Heating was amazing to work with! We have a home warranty company that continued to send inefficient technicians to our home who ultimately put our family at risk. Scott at State Heating was at our home, next day, and was able to sufficiently diagnose our issue and assured us that our home would be safe. His crew was professional, timely and honest; they were even friendly to our pets and guests in our home. This team heard our challenges, empathized with our concerns, resolved our issue and pledged to continue providing the same great service. I would recommend this company over anyone else that I have ever worked with.

I called State Heating & AC in the hopes of obtaining a quote on relocating my home's AC condenser and was taken aback by the lack of professionalism with the immediate response. After giving the employee who answered a very preliminary guess on the age of the unit (which I had explained was only a guess), he was animated in telling me he "wouldn't even come out" because the unit wouldn't survive a move. I attempted to ask further questions but was stopped on multiple occasions and reminded of his unwillingness to further the conversation. While I understand they are not required to take my business, the most unfortunate thing is that all I was trying to accomplish was having them out to confirm the age of the unit, and if verified too old, to discuss installation of a new unit (which I assume he would have been open to had he been willing to hear me out).

This guy is the real deal! Scott resolved the relatively complex wiring and heater problem quickly and cheaply. My mom is now comfortable and warm in her house and she feels like she now has a new friend in Scott. He was very responsive, reasonable and professional. It's good to know good guys like this still exist. I will definitely not hesitate to call him again in the future!

They were very responsive to our initial inquiry- Scott responded at 8:30 pm on a Saturday evening. Scott was out for the initial visit Monday morning. Tuesday morning Lynn was out for the install. We cannot speak highly enough of the job Lynn did on the install. Polite, friendly, explained every step along the process what was being done. He went above and beyond! If necessary we would call for service and will specifically request Lynn for work.

Never was able to get in touch with the Company. The phone number listed goes to a voice mail. The voice mail says "sorry the box is full" and disconnects you.
