Overall, this job was a nightmare. I not only reported him to the BBB, I went to our Mayor and he had him banned from our city after he did some research on him. He told the city inspector at the time that we did not need this kind of contractor working in our city and he banned him from our city. The whole job was screwed up from the start. the first day that we were supposed to have crete poured, the truck showed up and when he saw the check that was written to him checked a list and said" I can't accept that." we finally got the crete from some other company I had not heard of. We had an excavator come to our house on halloween as we were handing out candy and told us we owed him $500.00 dollars. We found out that he was written a check that there were no funds for. This happened a couple of other times as well and we called him and threatened to fire him if it wasn't taken care of immediatly. to be sure, we demanded wavers of lien from everyone that worked here and all suppliers before final payment. Avoid this man like the plague. I have kept all paperwork from this job and have even used a couple of the subs again but I would NEVER use Mike Ross Design and remodeling again!
Description of Work: We hired Mike Ross to build a three story addition to our exhisting home. From the start things seemed to not go good. He started shorting pay on his subs and then they in turn would complain to us. The block man he hired was so bad that after he had built the two side walls for the basement they edges wouldn't match. the addition ended up being 11' x 24' instead of the 10' x 24'.When the doorway was cut in the brick wall in the exhisting basement wall there was dust from one end of the house to the other. Thick RED dust! this was caused by the brick saws water spray not working. We had agreed to replace one window in the bedroom as part of the job and he kept slinging us along thinking he was working on it when he had found out they didnt make a replacement window that size. He never tarped the roof after it was stripped, and we had storm water running through the walls to the point my daughter almost electricuted herself on a GFCI! Another part of the job was to point and tuck our front porch to improve the looks and rebuild where nessessary, yet after the job was done we had bricks that were falling out of the porch within 2 months. When we had finally had enough of it we fired him from the job and finished ourselves. We noticed there weren't any nuts and washers on the "j" bolts in the basement, one window is 3/4 of an inch out of square top to bottom, in one bedroom he changed from tongue and groove ply to straight edge ply leaving a gap that the carpet installer wouldn't even warrantee the carpet in that area. When we hired him it was to do a weather proof shell with the walls roughed in and there was no caulk around the windows so every time it rained the walls got wet inside, there were cracks in the basement wall that his answer to was just caulk them.

s he did very poor work. Again, do noth think he is in business any longer in this area but if he is, steer clear.
Description of Work: Hello, While this report is new as a result of my just recently joining Angie's List, I felt compelled to review this contractors work as it was poor at best. I do not think that Mike Ross is still in buiness in Northeast Ohio but in the event he is and ine is considering him, make sure you get another to do the work. We asked Mike to do our Master Bath remodel. The work was sub standard at best. The bath remodel took nearly a year to complete! The marble tile work in the shower alone had to be re-done three times as the tile was not installed properly. He used trades people that were mediocre and only paid them when they threatened him. The plumbning work that he did associated with the shower drain resulted in the shower drain leaking and having to cut open the ceiling below to repair. I can go on and on but the bottom line i
It was a really long time ago but my experience with Mike Ross Design/Remodeling Company was quite bad. It was a good price but I don?t remember how much I paid. At the time, Mike told me that he had his own crew and that he does not have any sub-contractors in the crew. That was a lie because a few guys that he sent over were sub-contractors. They were not on his payroll. The sub-contractors wouldn?t know that they did not do a fine job on the sliding doors they put in. It was so ridiculous. The replacement sliding door that they had ordered was an inch smaller than the required size. Therefore my trim that was the trim of the house was no longer useful. They had some crappy pine wood that was installed which was cracked. They just put siding over stickers. Stickers were showing half out. It was just a lousy job. They might have changed now. I have never used them since then.
Description of Work: We had some work done through Mike Ross Design/Remodeling Company back in 1998. I had them install a couple of windows and sliding doors.
Mike Ross is the owner and we have had two positive experiences with him over the course of 20 years. We have been very pleased with his activity and with what he has done for us over the last 15 years. It was an addition as well as a remodel and it cost about $23000. On very short notice about three years ago, Mr. Ross built a column out of 2x6's and 2x10s. It worked out quite well. We needed to support an overhang associated with our roof and he did a very nice job. His people also installed some required wrought iron railings. His prices were competitive. I don?t think he is a lowball kind of guy. He seemed to be very straightforward in his approach while doing the big room. He was fair with the activity that we had a couple of years ago. I would certainly consider Mike in the future and he would certainly be one that I would go to.
Description of Work: Mike Ross Design & Remodeling installed an elevated unheated sunroom on the rear of our house about 15 years ago. It involved a bunch of windows, bunch of electrical stuff, some very nice carpentry work and everything associated with the sunroom which is elevated perhaps over 4 feet above grade.

It was bad from the start. The subcontractor for the foundation destroyed the lawn due to negligence. Mr. Ross promised to fix it and never did. I spent nearly $2000 to fix it and will probably end up in court to get reimbursed. This contractor didn't seem to know very many of the subcontractors he hired, and didn't supervise them very well. There were things that were never completed (siding, painting, closet shelves). Where windows were removed, the outline of the windows shows clearly through on the walls due to poor drywall finish. Also, one subcontractor - an Amish man no less - called to say that he never got paid for the work.

THEY DELIVERED THE MATERIALS AND WERE PAID A CHECK OF $1300. TWO MONTHS LATER THE SUPPLIES WERE PICKED UP BY THE SUPPLIER STATING THAT WE HAD CANCELED OUR ORDER. TALKED TO MIKE ROSS (OWNER) WHO SAID HE COULD NOT FULFILL THE JOB REQUEST AND WOULD SEND US A CHECK. NO CHECK WAS SENT AND WE ARE FILING IN COURT.
