Company was a few thousand less than other quotes. They cleared many trees, including 4 large ones that were too close to house. They removed all stumps. They trimmed other large trees in back. They were quick and cleaned up everything. Great work. I highly recommend them.

I had purchased wood from another local company when I 1st moved in Dec 2016. It smoked, sizzled and was very wet. The previous owner had recommended Tree Maintenance Services to purchase firewood. I called and ordered wood from them three different times this past summer and winter. It was seasoned and dry and burned well producing lots of heat. I am very pleased with wood from Tree Maintenance Services. I will continue to purchase from them.

I had purchased firewood from a bigger company in the area in December 2016. My CO detectors would alarm most nights when burning the wet smoky wood. I had trees trimmed by Tree Maintenance Services (already wrote an A+ review for that work) and was advised that they sold seasoned dry firewood. I tried his wood last year (2017) and was extremely pleased by it. Not only did I not have my CO detectors alarming I didn't have to use the screen much as the wood hardly popped while burning. I had also purchased some maple firewood from an acquaintance and it was not near as good. I purchased wood already for this winter exclusively from Tree Maintenance Services. They charge $75.00 per cage. I purchased 8 cages and my wood is stacked and tarped ready to burn (2018).

Only took the group about 2 1/2 hours. They brought a boom truck, bucket truck and big pos truck with shredder. The crew worked safely and efficiently. The price was fair as to all the equipment that was used as well as the man power. I would recommend them to all. I hired this company because of all the positive reviews that I read here about them.
Description of Work: Cut down a couple of small damaged trees and also a couple of ash trees with problems. Trimmed out some dead areas up in top of a couple of trees. They removed some old cuttings and debree in our small ravine. Trimmed a couple of damaged limbs in the back of the property that were hovering about 5 younger pines. They did a great job with that sparing any damage to the pines.

Wonderful, quite a team they were all professional and friendly. They not only took down this dangerous tree for me, but hauled away the massive logs and cleaned everything up, one would never know they had been there. what a crew a big A plus to them all, and they are coming out soon to take down two more huge trees. Price was good, better than anyone else!!!!

Overall, Doug and his team are outstanding! I have used Tree Maintenance Services on at least six different occasions now over the span of five years, and have found their service, safety, price and professionalism to be second to none. Doug and his team of talented individuals always perform flawless work at reasonable prices. The quality of their work is exceptional, and as others mention, yard clean up after the work has been performed is outstanding. Doug is truly a professional individual who does exactly what he says and does it when he says it will be done. He is by far the best that I have ever experienced.

This company used a large crane to removed very large trees from front and backyard. Highly skilled in use of the crane. This crew is very professional from start to finish. Clean up of all tree limbs and debris from bark, sticks, and leaves was perfect.
Description of Work: They dropped ten very large trees total. No way to get equipment in backyard so they used a heavy crane to remove six of them in the back and needed to use the crane for three in front. Four man crew who we're professional in getting the job done. The cost was extremely fair considering the difficulty of this job.

Doug is a very nice and professional guy. He came for appraisal on Saturday (which I preferred), gave me a competitive offer and delivered the work exactly the way he promised. He is very responsive, we called and texted each other a few times and he showed up with his team as he promised on time. He has 3 guys working with him, they all followed all the safety rules and cleaned their workspace very well. I would highly recommend him.

Doug came out promptly to give us a quote. The quote form is excellent and breaks down everything so there are no surprises and there is a clear understanding of what services you are paying for. We scheduled a work date with the understanding that weather dictates. Doug was able to come out sooner and gave us plenty of notice. When they arrived the crew went immediately to work. The whole crew was pleasant and professional. They left the yard in excellent shape. ( The clean up was so good it was hard to believe trees were cut down.) I received a call from Doug 6 days later that a math error was made and he owed me $53.00. Well, it sure is nice to know there are honest people still out there!

Doug called the same day I let a message. He said he could get an estimate to us in three days, however, he provided the estimate the very next day. We were floored by the low cost. Once we called to request the work completed, he was there in two days. The work and clean up were exceptional. Every phase of the process, Doug was very professional. This is a company to keep close by.

We had a 3 story dead hickory tree in our backyard. Our yard is not accessible via any truck, plus this season was wet so the yard was very soft. Doug climbed the tree himself and cut it down from the top down. The crew worked efficiently under him clearing the limbs and chipping the wood. I appreciated that Doug's quote was specific and broke the prices down into categories. We chose to keep the large logs for a friend, so they left them after cutting them into 18 inch sections. They had the tree cut down, everything cleared, and the stump ground within 2 hours. I was very impressed!

We did not use his services because another company could perform the tree removal sooner.
Description of Work: Doug came out the same day I called and gave an estimate for tree removal in our back yard. Since he came when we were not home, I called him later to ask questions. He answered everything politely and was professional and knowledgeable. His prices seemed fair and in line with other estimates we received. We did not use his services, solely because another company with a similar price could perform the services sooner. I certainly would call Doug again in the future if I had need of a tree man. He gave every indication of being competent and a good businessman.

Contacted Doug in September to get estimate on cutting down 70 yr old silver maple, removing several dying pine trees and grinding stumps (two from prior tree work done by another company). Doug showed up for the estimate on time, and completed a basic map of the yard, including trees to be serviced, and itemization of services provided all on the customer invoice (very nice touch). This was extremely helpful and allows both parties to have a mutual understanding of the work to be performed. Doug took the time to understand our needs and expectations as we have not had the best experience in the past with other tree service companies. We wanted to have a couple of the old stumps removed a few weeks prior to the set date for the other tree removals in anticipation of other work being performed around our home (it was not discussed during the estimate visit). This was not a problem for Doug as he sent one of his employees to our house to grind the stumps. Doug does a great job of following-up and communicating the scheduling and timing of the services he performs. On the day of the work, the Tree Maintenance Services team arrived on time, made sure to cover the grassy areas impacted by the trucks, and were very polite and professional in their approach. I was impressed with his teams efficiency, attention to detail and organization. The did a great job cleaning up and clearing the tree litter and left my yard cleaner than when they arrived. I would highly recommend Tree Maintenance Services to anyone who needs tree work performed. It is difficult find a company that provides exceptional service at a very reasonable price. I plan on using them next year for other work that needs to be done. Great experience overall!

Overall, it was a very good experience. Doug does a great job of doing exactly what he says and in staying in touch in the time leading up to the actual work day. He is very prompt in returning phone calls as well as for his scheduled appointments (i.e. estimate day, actual work day, etc...). His work crew is courteous and professional, and they left our yard in excellent condition after all of the work was completed.

Doug, the owner, was responsive in calling me back within a few hours of my voicemail, even though this is the busy season. He came out to do the estimate, made some suggestions and understood our budget for essential work now and work we can do later. He was respectful, professional and informative. We felt confident enough with his assessment and estimate that we hired him to do the work. He will come out this coming week to take care of the removal and trimming. Update 4/12: I am reserving changing my A marks above until I know if this situation will be resolved. I explained I would be mostly out of town April 13 through the first week of May. Doug said no problem, the job would be done before I left. When part of the job was done, I tried to pay him for that part. He said wait until the job is done. I explained again, I would be out of town for a workshop and surgery. He said it was no problem, he'd invoice me and to pay him when I got home. I tried to pay him partial again, as I do not like to owe money and I pay anyone doing work accordingly, and he insisted I wait until he was done. When he came out and wrote the proposal on April 5, we'd just had a fence installed and a shed torn down a few days before. The area where the tree needed removal and the stump to be ground was not grass; due to the work for the fence and shed removal, at the time of the estimate it was dirt and mud. Doug gave me the written proposal. I agreed. He asked when was a good time to do the work. I said please before I leave for out of town and please only during afternoon hours. He agreed and seemed sincere. He seemed professional and personable. He remarked on what appeared to be a nice new and quot;expensiveand quot; air conditioner. I explained it was a heat pump/a/c unit the sellers put in in 2010, and we chatted a moment on the qualities of heat pumps and wood stoves. The evening of April 10, while I was out, he left a message that he was confirming April 11 in the afternoon, as we had agreed to 1:00 pm. I thought that was nice. Then on the morning of April 11, after a night of snow and still snowing, he left another message that he and quot;had a dilemmaand quot; and needed to change the appointment to that morning and that he and quot;was going for it.and quot; Before I could call him back, he was at the house starting on the tree while it snowed. Being ahead of schedule and changing last minute might be great for some people, but I had already said the morning was not good and it was also snowing very wet melting snow. I rearranged my day. A few days before, we had the yard re-seeded and straw put down. Since it was just dirt and mud when he gave me the proposal on April 5, I didn't think the addition of seed and straw to the dirt and mud was a problem. Doug was unhappy about it saying, and quot; The yard didn't look like this before.and quot; The only difference was now there was seed and straw on top of the dirt and mud that was there when he did the estimate. I didn't ask him to re-seed it. I didn't ask him to re-grade it. I just wanted the job done per the proposal. I figured maybe his and quot;dilemmaand quot; was another clients' emergency, so I let having to change my busy day's schedule slide. When he went to leave, he left the stump and one tree still needing two of the three cables. He said he'd come back tomorrow. I explained okay, but know I'm not here tomorrow. I asked what about the stump. He said he never quoted grinding the stump. I explained, it is on the proposal, clearly written and priced and that he even circled that line item price. I thought maybe he had me mixed up with another job and he was confused. He said no, he never agreed to do the stump. I told him it might take a minute but I'd be glad to go get his proposal showing he wrote the stump removal to the price to which I agreed and we discussed. He went to his truck to get his copy and saw he'd included the stump in the proposal. Then he said stump grinding usually costs more than that and he wasn't removing the wood chips. I hadn't asked him to remove the wood chips nor had he proposed removing them. I haven't had tree work done before, so I don't know what stump grinding costs; I do know the price he listed for it in the proposal though. He said he'd have to come back when it was dry to do it, even though he removed the tree on a wet and snowy day and again that he'd be back tomorrow to do the cabling (he did return for the cabling). I reminded him I'd be out, he again said no problem he'd invoice me when the entire job was done. I reminded him again, I am away for a few weeks. He said no problem. I was away all day preparing for being out of town. Doug arrived during the afternoon and asked the person working on the interior of our home if I was home. The person told him no, that I'd explained I wouldn't be home today. The person asked Doug could he maybe put plywood down under the stump grinder if he wanted to do it today since it's still muddy and Doug said he needed to come back when it was dry. It was very confusing he said he hadn't agreed to do it, then couldn't do it in the snowy mud and had to come back when it was dry, then returned to do it when it was still muddy. I wasn't sure what would happen or not. If he was trying to help, consistency or informing me ahead of time, or not showing up to ask after I told him I'd be out would have been helpful. The person is also a paid worker, who thought as a fellow service person, the request to put down a piece of cheap plywood on which to put the grinding machine was reasonable. I learned about it later, as well as Doug declining that option. I figured okay, please just grind the stump whether it's dry muddy, however Doug wanted to do it, just please do it. By then, Doug had already called. Our phone forwards to my husband when I'm out. Doug left a message this evening, asking to be paid for the partial job, after I'd told him I'm away from tomorrow until the first week of May. He offered to clean up the back-yard (not sure what that means) I didn't request and return at an undetermined date to grind the stump. He didn't mention if he was going to honor his stump grinding proposal price. My husband returned his call, considering the hour Doug called, it was okay to call. He left Doug a voicemail. What I expected was the proposal honored. I'm a reasonable person who has good experiences with services that we've hired since buying this home. I'm upset as the last thing I needed before I'm out of town is what has transpired and is still unresolved. I have as solid a reputation as Doug does and I'm known by service persons for paying my invoices promptly. Being asked to wait to pay until the job is done, then asked to pay for partial work before it's all done - and after I'm away, is confusing. Being told that the dirt and mud in the yard at the time of the proposal isn't the same simply because it has seed and straw over it, is confusing. Having to rearrange my schedule after confirmation just 12 hours before that the agreed time would be honored, and wasn't, is confusing. Everything was fine until Doug had the and quot;dilemmaand quot; he mentioned in his voicemail. After that point, things went haywire.
Description of Work: We bought a house this winter and with spring arriving can see which trees and limbs are dead and need removal or trimming. We asked for an estimate for trimming or removing a few of our trees. We decided on removing one and trimming another. Doug gave a quote for tree removal, dispose of limbs, dispose of remaining wood, tree branch trimming, stump grinding and three cables.

Response from TREE MAINTENANCE SERVICES
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for you. I am sincerely sorry you have not been satisfied with me services. I love what I do and take pride in my work. Even so, the tree business presents many challenges. Conditions change all the time. Conditions including the state of the grounds, the obstacles that must be avoided such as fencing or valuable landscape plantings … and then there’s the weather in Ohio. The conditions of the site dictate the type of equipment used as well as the work methods employed. I rely on my best judgment and 32 plus years of tree experience in deciding how to approach each work site. I am lead to believe in my previous reviews on Angie’s List that my customers appreciate the way I conduct business. I regret I could not adhere to your timeframe. I have had to adjust my schedule to accommodate many different situations. It’s been my experience that once the customer and I agree on the proposal, it is up to me to get the job done. Some customers prefer to be on site during our work but it is not necessary. Tree removal can be dangerous and we like to limit any distractions, we were already limited given the small workspace we had at your site. I understand your desire to pay me for the work already performed and as a small business owner, I always appreciate timely payment. However, I think I would be doing my customers a disservice by taking partial payment. I strive to please all of my customers and I like to give them a chance to review the entire job before making any payment. I am disappointed that you did not allow me to fulfill our contract but I respect your decision. Like all other industries, tree work has its own vocabulary. I believe we may have had difficulty communicating ideas and expectations. For that, I apologize. Understanding one another can be difficult. I did my best to communicate my intentions to both you and your spouse. In this case I should have tried harder. I offer you a $75.00 discount on the invoice I already submitted. It’s a shame we were unable to conduct business in a more positive and productive way. Best wishes, Doug Scheck President and Owner
