Lamphear's Lawn Service

Here is a great example of a basic Unilock retaining wall installed by your team at Lamphears Landscaping. Its already failed after less than 5 years. It’s a simple wall that is barely 24 inches high. When asked how much of a gravel drainage layer they put behind the wall I was told only several inches. The Unilock website says minimum 14 inches should be used. When I asked if they used Geogrid or filter fabric behind the wall. I was told they didn’t need it. Both items were listed on the initial quote but now by their own admission not used. Pictures dont lie this is what you are left with. I’m sure you will likely see a rebuttal to this review from Lamphears. Of course, the GM will tell you “Hey it only had a two year warranty!” There was nothing in writing on the quote or final invoice about a warranty. Only a two year warranty for a simple wall like this ? Goes to show you how much they think of their own work when they wont back it up after 2 years. Stay away.

Let me preface this with a little history. I called Lamphear's early this year to get a quote for some lawn work. I ended up going with a different company, which I was not completely satisfied with, but that's irrelevant. I called Lampear's again a couple weeks ago to try again, and get a quote for the next part of my lawn. I told whoever I spoke to that it would be for next year likely in the fall. I received a call back today and the guy told me that just the backyard was not enough for them to come out, and I clarified saying that it's more than just the backyard. It's the backyard, up both sides of the house, and part of the front. I was also looking to get a quote on some other landscaping. Probably about 75% of a 2/3 of an acre lot. After all of that explanation, they guy goes "Didn't we quote you earlier this year for some work and you didn't call us back?", and I said yeah I had some other quotes and went a different direction at the time. His response was "Nah, I'm going to pass".... Seeing as he got all butthurt that I didn't end up going with them earlier, I expressed a little bit of my displeasure and hung up. Fine whatever, I moved on already. This guy had the nerve to call me back a few minutes later to tell ME it was "nothing personal" after the whole "nah, I'm good" thing. Then proceeds to try and cover that up by basically telling me that it was inconvenient for them to do some work for me since they didn't have any other jobs near me while disregarding the fact I was looking for work next year (though I’m not sure if that was conveyed to him from the first person I spoke to).... They are less than 20 minutes away from me so I don't buy that in the slightest. And even if that were the case, you don't tell a potential customer that they are an inconvenience. What if I had gone with them earlier this year? Would they tell me now that I am an inconvenience? I suspect not. But also as a potential customer, your other jobs don't matter to me. You either service an area or you don't. Don't lead me on to believe that you will do work here by coming out to do a quote one time, and then say it's inconvenient to drive less than 20 minutes the next. So, if I were to disregard the fact that they took it personally that I didn't go with them previously, they may do good work, but if you happen to be 20-ish minutes away, then look elsewhere.

Did and EXCELLENT job. I will hire them again in the spring for new landscaping. Excellent customer service.

The came out on the day they said they would (in May) to give us an estimate. Waited a few weeks then had to call them back to see if they were interested, but they indicated they were not interested in the landscape cleanup and to call them back when we had it cleaned up for an estimate on the patio. They also said they were back logged until August and did not do stamped concrete, only pavers. Appreciate the honesty, but clearly they were only interested in the new patio and not the landscape cleanup.

Initially, the experience was good. The service provider was responsive and provided us a initial proposal in a timely fashion. After I was provided with the initial quote/proposal things went down hill. The consultant was not responsive when I inquired about the proposal and if all the items we had discussed were included b/c the quote seemed rather inexpensive from what we had received from their competitors. It took several calls to finally get the consultant to return my call. When he did and I explained that I wanted to make sure that part of the small excavating project (such as moving rocks to areas of the landscape were included in the price) he told me he wasn't sure he could do that part and would have to come back out to the property and take a look. No problem, understandable we wanted to make sure we were on the same page and that the areas that may need some excavating would be done and was included in the price. He also told me he did not do certain parts of excavating even though their website states that excavating is part of their services. Regardless, it was not a big area that needed to be done and was not a deal breaker if they could not do it as our most pressing concern was the yard installation. The consultant said he would get back to me in two days and then after patiently waiting I never heard anything back until about 1.5 weeks later after I left several voicemail and emails to see where we were at. I finally received a voicemail saying not only could they not do the excavating but that also they would not do the job because they were too busy and pushed back now for several months. I remind you this was left on my voicemail. We were very proactive in the process and I reached out to this company in late March so we could set something up to prevent this from happening. We are now starting from the beginning again. All I can say is this was a very disappointing and frustrating experience that I would not wish upon anyone. I have never been told by a company that they were not interested in taking my money. Best of luck if you decide to go with this company.

I called the company in an attempt to get services and they told me they were too busy to do a one time cut and trim in Medina on a small lawn. I live in Medina and attempted to stay local and was told they could not help me. I will not be calling them for ANY services in the future.

Lamphear's Lawn Service has some of the most honest, competent and trustworthy people I have ever done business with! I requested an initial consultation through Angie's List, which took a few days longer than I had hoped, but it is the busy season. The person who came out thoroughly assessed my situation and identified my needs, which helped me decide that some of the work I thought I needed really wasn't necessary, ultimately saving me a lot of money. I did have them spray my lawn for weeds in two visits over about 5 weeks, the service was excellent and my lawn has never looked better! You can trust these guys. Thanks Lamphear's!

It was a really good experience. They provide good customer service and quality of work.

We were very pleased with the results. Our front was covered with brush & dead trees and fallen trees. Brad & and co-worker cleaned it out with only tree stumps left to have ground. They worked hard and were very pleasant and professional. They came when they said they would. Their estimate and final cost was very fair. We will have them back again for additional yard work.

They did a great job! The crew showed up early in the morning on time. We walked thru the placement of all the new plants and reviewed what they were going to do. Everything was removed and installed exactly as we had agreed. The edging and mulch looked great--far better than I've ever done myself. One bed hadn't been cleaned out in years and they did a fantastic job of cutting down all the overgrown weeds and removing branches, poison ivy and other misc trash from the bed and clearing it out. They even pulled out an old metal bar that had been sticking out of the ground! They also did a nice job of working around the few shrubs that were going to stay in that bed. It looked great. I would definitely contract with them again for my landscaping.

Kevin came to give us an estimate in April. Our 1 acre property was a mess from the winter, with leaves everywhere, huge bare spots where the grass had died and 1 area where flooding had occurred. He was very professional, gave us a step by step plan, and advised us that the weather would have to be right before they could do it. Drew came with a crew 3 times until all the work was completed. It was amazing to see the yard with all the leaves gone. The aerating, seeding and fertilizing worked great. Grass has come back in all the bare areas. Drew and the crew were very easy to work with.

Kevin and the crew have been very professional and on time. The quote took about a week to receive but was timely and well priced. So far they've done a great job on our lawn.

Kevin came out to survey the job site shortly after I contacted him. Work was completed within a month after approving the design. Kevin was very good, explained things clearly and the contracts were written clear and concise. I spoke with his employees the day they were working and to a man, they were all very polite and friendly. The work was completed later that day and the work was very good. I am having them do the mowing next year as well. Very pleased with all phases of the project.

They did an excellent job. They had the foreman, Shane, and seven gentlemen assisting him. They had 3 trucks to clean up and haul the stuff away. When they left it was clean as a whistle. The value and workmanship was wonderful. Kevin, who came to do the design and quote, did a hand drawing of his design, including colors and name of plants. No other place did that, it was wonderful to see what we were getting before we started. He also provided a proposal instead of an estimate, so we knew what the cost would be. All of the gentleman were very conscientious and worked very efficiently.

It went very well. The drain seems to work well in heavy downpours. The grass is growing. The major low areas are flattened out. The concrete contractor that did the driveway wrecked the yard and Lamphear fixed that. The concrete guy is not an Angie's list service so there you go.... I guess the price is good. I did not get additional estimates which is an Angie's list no-no. So I have nothing to compare to. But the work is done and done well with no redos on anything so I got what I paid for. Kevin from Lamphear estimated and directed the work. He even came back a second time on a Saturday before the work to explain the details. He sent two crews so they got it done in one day. Kevin's professionalism and willingness to explain everything and send enough people to get it done quickly was why I didn't bother with additional estimates.

I would not hesitate to refer this company to my friends !! Their office staff is very helpful and answer all questions..
