Everything went well and the end product is truly amazing and excellent, My old kitchen was transformed into a new kitchen that looks like one of those kitchens you see in home remodeling magazines. One of the things I liked about this company was that their product is made of 100% solid wood and it is guaranteed for life. The cabinets look brand new and you cannot tell they have been refaced. Their price is very reasonable compared to other companies and you don't have to pay anything up front until the job is completed. Other companies wanted ridiculous amounts up front before the job even started. There is no high pressure salesman who tries to force you to commit to this company. I was provided another company, Rocksolid Stone Works (RSW), where I picked out a granite counter top, which looks really beautiful. The work took approximately one week to complete and the counter tops and sink/faucet were installed on the second day. The carpenter that did the work was very good and cleaned up at the end of each day. Jason, the owner, suggested that the kitchen island could be redesigned so that I had 6 large drawers instead of 4 very small drawers and 2 cabinets. I was skeptical at first because I wasn't sure how this would look but I really love how this turned out and it has helped me to stay neater and more organized! I would recommend this company to anyone looking to reface their cabinets.
Description of Work: This company refaced all of my kitchen cabinets, rebuilt new drawers and some cabinets, redesigned my kitchen island, and installed new granite counter tops along with a new stainless steel sink and new faucet (which I supplied).

Cabinetry was refaced with Tuscan stain on Select Cherry. The countertops were replaced with Typhoon Gold granite. Cabinets above the refrigerator and microwave were reduced to accommodate today’s larger appliances. A two door cabinet was converted to one door since the original two doors were very small. The existing island had four small drawers at the top and four doors below. We converted to six drawers total with full-extension glides and soft close drawer boxes. This conversion is very popular and with full-extension drawer boxes, makes the kitchen much more convenient to use. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

First Ben showed up with a large variety of samples and we planned the new kitchen. He measured and suggested some details to finish the job. Since I did not want to go out to the yard to choose the granite, he chose it for me and did a good job. They were beautiful and expertly measured by computer days before installation. The sink they bought with it is of excellent quality. The counter installers were speedy and courteous and did a very professional job. All materials are of excellent quality and Ken installed the refacing and faucet and disposal neatly and professionally. Matt tiled a beautiful and carefully done tile black splash which was ready for normal use the next day.The job only took parts of four days. The resurfacing is flawless and looks beautiful. It was a pleasant and "easy, peasy" experience from beginning to end. All the materials and workmanship are of excellent quality. And every day the cleanup was impeccable.
Description of Work: Resurfaced kitchen cabinets, provided new counter tops, sunk and tile black-splash. Installed a disposal and faucet that I provided.

Cabinetry was refaced with Parchment (off-white solid color) on Birch. The countertops were replaced with Santa Cecilia granite. The eating area countertop had a large overhang that needed support. Instead of brackets that you can hit your knees on, we used low profile steel support bars. Almond subway tile was added between the countertops and upper cabinet. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

Our reface job took 2 1/2 months, instead of the estimated 5-7 days. We ordered white and most of all our cabinet doors were either dented, bubbled or had finger prints from the factory handling the cabinets when still wet. We weren't happy with the clean up, our kitchen counters, cabinets were left with all the carpenters tools for 5 days. My new stove wasn't covered, We covered with blankets and the carpenter ended up the next day recovering with his heavy blankets. My microwave was left on kitchen floor for several days ( on it's side), with a plastic container full of water. So with no counters to use since dirty tools left and microwave on floor we had no way of making food at home for a week. Talked to Jason a couple of times, did tell me if something still wasn't right after several months, they would be out to make it right. So after several weeks of having no cabinet doors which poor Terry had to keep coming back to get different doors at different times, the job is done and done the way it should of been within the 1st week, but only took over 2 months to make right.
Description of Work: Mary Jo came out in March, we went over the job, everything looked good but when drawers installed, the fronts weren't what we thought we ordered. We wanted all Shaker Style and the door fronts were plan, this did get corrected.. But Terry took out our whole pantry since the previous contractor didn't put them in correctly and Terry reinstalled and made sure the pantry was attached to our wall at no further cost

Cabinetry was refaced with Solid White on Birch. A new appliance garage was built in the corner. Existing countertops were not replaced and diagonal tile was installed with black spotters in the corners where tiles meet. Almost eleven feet of pantry cabinetry that was incorrectly installed was removed and correctly installed during the refacing project. We would like to thank the customer for pointing out the problems she experienced during the installation and we have put corrective actions in place. To offset the problems she experienced, we did not charge for removing and reinstalling the pantry cabinetry. In addition, while the signed contracted stated one-piece drawer fronts, we replaced all drawer fronts at no charge because the customer wanted a different drawer front style. After the installation week, while we were correcting open items, we made sure the kitchen was fully functional. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report and for providing honest feedback. It went very well. Terry was our carpenter and did a beautiful job to perfection from start to finish.. I would recommend American Wood Reface to anyone who wants to update their kitchen cupboards and counter top. Terry showed up on time each day and cleaned up before he left for the day. He didn't even take a break he worked straight through. Great guy.
Description of Work: Refaced Kitchen Cupboards, took out wall oven and replaced with additional counter space. He also build a cupboard over the new counter space and build three very large drawers underneath the counter. He also installed recessed lighting under the cupboards. Also installed new counter top and back splash.

The first step was the estimator (Ben) came to our house. He sold us on the product and installation procedures. It was a no-pressure presentation. We had a previous estimate from another contractor a few years ago and were turned off. This estimator was proud of his product and was able to communicate what could be done to our kitchen. The next step was the measurer (Jason) . He provided valuable input and suggestions to fine tune the final design. We did add about $1,000 to the project for details that we desired. Terry was our carpenter. He was always punctual and professional. His skills are phenominal. The final product exceeded our expectations. The only downside is that it takes awhile to get on their schedule. They were four months out scheduling - but the wait was worth it. We could not be happier.
Description of Work: Redid all the kitchen cabinets - new drawers, new doors, new moldings, new facings. Added garbage drawer, lazy susan, cutting board, wine rack and several new full extension drawers.

Cabinetry was refaced with Wheat stain on Select Cherry. The existing countertops stayed in place. The cabinet above the oven was converted to a wine rack with the interior covered in the same wood and stain. The oven installers originally said the oven could not be installed but we were able to modify the oven cabinet to accept the new oven. A large dead space that was previously unusable was cut out and new door installed. A large false header at the top of the upper cabinets was eliminated and the new doors extended over this space giving the look of a taller cabinet. Three areas with rollouts were converted to drawer banks which are more efficient and have more storage space. All drawer boxes were upgraded to full-extension with soft close feature – a great upgrade. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

Cabinetry was refaced with Cognac stain on Select Maple. The existing countertops stayed in place. Two narrow drawers were converted to one full width drawer providing more space. A two drawer and two door area was converted to three full width drawers. The top lazy susan shelf was moved up to accommodate taller items on the bottom shelf. The existing opening for the refrigerator was 36 inches wide but baseboard and a bow in the wall prevented a standard 36 inch fridge from going into the opening. To solve this problem, the opening width was increased by shifting the pantry cabinets left. In addition, the opening height was increased by reducing the cabinets above the refrigerator. Since the top of these cabinets could be seen when on the stairs, we also covered the tops, which is not standard. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

Cabinetry was refaced with Tuscan stain on Select Cherry. The existing countertops stayed in place. This job was unique because the week before the project was scheduled to start, the homeowner called us with a hardship that was going to make it difficult to do the project as originally contracted. We were able to work with her to alter the scope of the project which reduced the cost in line with her budget. We were still able to use the same quality product that we use on all our jobs - select grade solid wood doors and ¼” refacing materials. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Mary Jo came out to our home to show us the product in Mid March. My husband is an engineer and VERY picky about details. We were both impressed with the process and decided this was the best option for us since we had no interest in ripping out our cabinets and risk damaging our existing granite. Mary Jo helped us to decide what we wanted to change about our existing lay out and helped us to choose our cabinet style and color (parchment). We were not expecting to be able to get the project started until June, which was okay because we had a big graduation party planned for May. To our surprise we got a call from the office saying they could start May 6 and that the project was expected to take a little over a week. Even though our party was late May, we decided to go ahead with the project. In early April, Jason came out to take measurements and gave me some advise on the direction of door swings and other details. On May 6 our carpenter Brandon arrived at around 10am and immediately started working. The first few days Brandon was only there for about 4-5 hours, and to be honest I was a little nervous about the project getting done. He worked the entire time he was there and was neat and polite. He was also meticulous and very detailed and when he left at night there was no mess. Actually there was practically no mess at all during the entire project, he cut pieces in our garage and that is the only dust he created. By Friday things were looking pretty good and I assumed I would see Brandon on Monday morning, but before he left he asked if he could work Saturday and Sunday(Mothers Day). Well I could think of no better Mothers Day gift than my kitchen being completed-and it was, by Sunday evening Brandon was finished! The next week I requested that one of the doors be restricted so it couldn't bump into our corner cabinet and Jason arrived the nest morning with a fix! We are so happy with the way our kitchen looks as well as the quality of the materials and craftsmanship. Our experience with American Wood Reface was positive from beginning to end and I would use them again in a minute! Our party was this past Sunday and everyone loved the kitchen, they truly did not believe we did not get completely new cabinets. Great experience, awesome kitchen!
Description of Work: American Wood Reface replaced all kitchen cabinet doors, drawers and drawer boxes, covered all cabinet boxes and peninsula with 1/4" wood, raised microwave, transformed a two door opening with pull-outs into two individual drawers, added doors where open cabinets had existed, replaced hardware and provided a new garbage drawer system. Soft close cabinet doors and drawers were installed. Cabinets above microwave were resized and two under cabinet lights were installed.

Chose this company after looking at a neighbor's kitchen they did two years ago. Overall, our job went very well. Took longer than expected due to our cabinets not being level, plus larger than normal custom cabinets that extend all the way to the ceiling - 8 1/2 feet - no soffits. Terry worked on Saturday and Sunday and finished Tuesday evening - total 9 days. Workmanship was excellent - could not be better. Would recommend them to anyone. Quality of finish is great - much better than our original cabinets. We got white painted cabinets, with gray granite countertops and white subway tile backsplash with black and gray accent tile. All goes great with our new stainless appliances. Their use of wood, while more expensive than the usual veneers, thermofoils, or laminates, makes for a much better looking and durable kitchen. Combined with the lifetime warranty on the finish, you can't go wrong. Wish we had done this years ago.
Description of Work: Reface all cabinets including haedware and hinges, added a cabinet and a trash bin, tile backsplash, new countertops, installed sink, faucet, dishwasher and over-the-range microwave. Refaced over original white painted custom cabinets installed in 1988.

Cabinetry was refaced with Fruitwood Stain on Select Birch. The countertops were replaced with Giallo Ornamental granite. The kitchen consisted of a variety of different cabinet styles that were added over time (some built in the house originally and others were stock cabinets added later). We enjoy projects like this one that require lots of planning to size everything properly to make it look like the same cabinetry after we are done refacing. In addition, a substantial amount of the cabinetry was reworked (doors converted to drawer banks, rebuilding cabinets so toe kick heights matched, modifying the opening to allow for a larger refrigerator, and rebuilding an open shelving unit). Soft close doors and drawers were used on this job making for a very “quiet” kitchen. Thank you for filling out a report on your experience. Jason – American Wood Reface

Good experience, I would use AWR again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: American Wood Reface put new cabinet doors and drawer fronts in my kitchen. They also tiled the entire backsplash are and installed a microwave over the range. I am very happy with the results and have received many compliments from guests. Even though people knew what I was having done, most have said: I had no idea it would look this nice. Everyone with the company was great to work with. From Mary, the salesperson, the gentleman who did the measuring, and Mike who did the actual installation. There was no pressure from Mary to go with AWR, and she was patient when answering my many questions. The same is true of Mike and the other gentleman. There was very little mess, as Mike did all of the sawing in the garage. Most of the time I was home, but when I couldn't be I was comfortable giving him the garage door opener so he could come and go as needed.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience and this company! Wish I could rate them an A+. The salesperson Mary Jo was excellent, extremely thorough and informative, but not pushy. She brought a lot of samples, and explained how the quality of the product differs from the competitors. We quoted five other cabinet builders and refacing companies, and the quality/cost cannot be matched. Prior to our cabinets being installed, the owner, Jason, communicated with us to ensure we received stain and door samples. He was very responsive, polished and professional, and from my experience this is very rare in the home renovation/ construction industry. There were a few very minor issues, and he took care of them right away. Our installer, Ken, was very personable and did a great job. He cleaned up everyday, was polite and always communicated where he was in the refacing process at the end of the day. The tile installer, Bob, was also fantastic and I plan to use him again.

Cabinetry was refaced with Café Noir stain on Select Maple. The countertops were replaced with Star Beach granite. The door style is flat (no center panel) and the Café Noir is a very dark stain (almost black) making for a very rich color. Twelve inch high new cabinetry was added to the top of the existing thirty inch high cabinets which allowed us to increase the height of the new cabinet doors and provide a more “expensive” look. A six foot span of cabinets between two walls without any support above was sagging badly. At no extra charge to the homeowner, we rebuilt this run and added an angle iron support frame hidden in the recessed underside of the cabinetry. It is now rock solid and will not sag like the original cabinetry. Thank you for filling out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

Description of Work: I contacted this company to give me an estimate on refinishing my kitchen cabinets. I originally got their name from Lowes. I then got on Angies List and my assessment was that they were a top notch company that did quality work. However, I quickly lost interest when I got a quote of over $10,000 to refinish 20 doors and 13 drawer fronts and of course refacing the cabinets.

I would like to clarify three items in this review. A) The consumer states that the quote was “...over $10,000...”. Our lowest price quoted for this job was $9,379. B) The consumer states that the estimate was “...to refinish 20 doors and 13 drawer fronts...” We do not offer refinishing; instead, we REPLACE all doors and drawer fronts with solid wood. Wood external to the cabinet boxes (e.g. trim molding, valance, etc.) is also replaced with solid wood. The cabinet boxes are covered with ¼” wood (faces, sides, and bottoms of the upper cabinets). In this quote, the consumer wanted white cabinetry. We use solid maple finished with a pigmented conversion varnish (not thermofoil over MDF which is common for white cabinetry). C) The consumer states, “I did contract with the the [SIC] company.” The consumer did NOT contract with American Wood Reface. American Wood Reface offers the same quality (solid wood doors, durability of our finishes) and craftsmanship that is found only in high-end stock or custom cabinetry. In addition, our product is made in Ohio from wood sourced in North America. Compared to a full tearout, our jobs are typically about a week vs. multiple weeks, there is less mess, and there is less waste going to the landfill since the cabinet boxes are reused. Finally, we offer a limited lifetime warranty for the original homeowner. Based on estimates our customers have shared with us, we are consistently half the cost of a full tear out and replacement of equivalent quality product. Jason – American Wood Reface

They really did an excellent job. Jason, the president of the company, actually comes out to your house to check it out and to ask you questions. He is very personable and concerned about the work. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: American Wood Reface completely refaced all my cabinets, they took some of the doors and turned them into see through glass doors, they put in all new hardware, under-mount lighting, and they put in new counter tops.

Cabinetry was refaced with Natural (no stain) Select Cherry. The countertops were replaced with Sedona Bluff laminate. The upper cabinets above the peninsula between the kitchen and eating area were replaced with glass doors on both sides; internal wood shelving was replaced with glass shelving; and lighting was added inside the cabinets to give the feeling of a more open space. The existing trash compactor and sink base were replaced with new cabinetry. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a report. Jason – American Wood Reface

It went very well! I am proud to show off my cabinets. When we noticed a slightly misaligned door, Ken was here in no time and fixed it perfectly. Good guy and great job!

Cabinetry was refaced with Solid White on Birch. The existing countertops were not replaced. All drawer boxes were replaced with new glides. A false front was also converted to an operational drawer. The cabinet above the stove was reduced to make room for an over the stove microwave. Thank you for filling out a report on your experience. Jason – American Wood Reface

The positives:1) From the examples of their work seen at the show, I believe that they are most capable of high quality refacing and custom cabinetry work. 2) The salesperson arrived very promptly, was organized, and was well prepared for her visit with a car trunk full of samples, Before she left (2.5 hours later), she had written out a detailed estimate of the work to be done (for the kitchen only) listing materials to be used and the exact costs. We ran out of time and could not address the half bath part of the project. Their estimated price was higher than what we paid a different company for this work. The negatives:1) We needed design guidance for our project. Every question directed to her regarding choices of materials, combinations of materials, or design was answered by "that is a matter of personal choice." Which, of course, is true. But didn't help us. All the samples were taken away at the end of the appt. To me, seeing the woods, stones, tiles, etc., in a variety of light conditions is very a important step in the process of making the final selections.2) They did not do electrical work (we needed additional lighting added in the ceiling and under-cabinet). They did not do flooring. (I felt this was problematic as choosing that needed to be addressed at the same time as making the other choices.) They did not do painting, and we needed that . We would need to provide the sinks, fauctes, appliances etc. separately.3) The salesperson indicated that once we began the work, we would be sent over to the company that they work with for granite counter work to make our selection. Again no design guidance provided. I think if you know exactly what materials, colors, fixtures, etc., that you wish to use in your kitchen or bath and are willing to be your own general contractor and select your own electrician, flooring, fixtures and painting contractors, these folks would likely be good to work with.
Description of Work: We asked for an in-home consultation for a rather large kitchen and bath remodeling project. We chose this company to "interview" based on the positive recommendations on Angie's list and a discussion with a representative at the 2012 Remodeling Expo. In our first contact, I made it clear that we needed design guidance. The sales representative who contacted us was professional and graciously accommodated our schedules when making the appointment.

Response from American Wood Reface
Although you did not ultimately become a customer of American Wood Reface, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience with us. We appreciate your comments on the quality of our product and professionalism of the kitchen specialist that spent time with you during the free in-home consultation. To help with the selection process, we are moving to a new facility that will contain a selection center to help people coordinate all the items that go into their new kitchen. With limited space in a vehicle, we only have enough samples to show while at the house. However, if people need to see products again or would like their own samples to keep, we can either ship samples directly to the homeowner or return to the house for more appointments (both, at no charge). We focus on the following areas: cabinet refacing, new cabinet construction/existing cabinet modification, countertop replacement/plumbing, wall tile installation, appliance installation, and undercabinet lighting installation. For the other areas of a kitchen remodel (e.g. floor replacement, wall painting, electrical work, etc.) we have a list of contractors that we recommend. If the homeowner contracts directly with others to do work that we do not perform, we believe the homeowner can save money; however, if the homeowner would like the entire project under one contract, we would be more than glad to do so. We could have done a better job making that clear to this homeowner. American Wood Reface, Jason

It went very well and we are very happy with results.
Description of Work: We had our kitchen and three bathroom vanities done. They put in new drawer boxes, moldings, crown trim, handles and soft close doors and drawers. It was done in cherry with a country pine stain and it turned out beautiful. Rick did an " EXCELLENT" job and completed it in the two week estimate. Ben, Jason and Rick were all a pleasure to work with and offered ideas we didn't think of. We would highly recommend them. We had seen three kitchens that they did and everyone said that they were great to work with. Family and friends are impressed by the end result.

In addition to the above described work, this customer already had granite tops installed which makes our refacing system a great option since we do not need to disturb the granite. They also had existing under cabinet lights so we followed the contour of the underside of the cabinets (versus covering flush) so they could keep their existing lights. Jason, American Wood Reface

American Wood Reface had a showroom space at the IX Center this spring. I requested and received a free estimate to have my outdated and ill constructed cabinates refaced. The selection was well thought out and the pricing was very fair for the quality of their product. I agreed to a contract and was given a start date. The cabinates were measure exactly and the information entered into their computer. A week before the installation I was given a full and helpful explanation of what to expect and what small part that was mine to prepare. All along there were no suprises. The professional carpenter that worked on our cabinates was also punctual, curtious and tidy. The entire process was enjoyable. Every stage of the process was communicated and completed on time. For all of the reasons stated and more I will definately recommend this company and their product. The transformation of the room and the quality of work received will be enjoyed for many years.
Description of Work: Refacing of builder stock cabinates. We had granite counter tops that could not be removed from inferior grade base cabinates. We chose a Shaker style in walnut with nickle hardware to go with the style of the house. Some of the openings had to be changed, lighting included under some and additional doors all in custom sizes.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a detailed review of the work we did in your kitchen. In addition to the work described, we had to replace a large pantry door due to a manufacturing mistake. We let the customer keep the incorrectly made door and he is transforming it into a message center; what a great idea! Jason, American Wood Reface

I had bought a new home and was interested in having my cabinets refaced as I thought that would be much cheaper than having new ones put in. Boy was I wrong! After having the representative review my kitchen and and choosing the base model cabinet facing the estimate came to just under $10,000. Ridiculous! Especially since I was able to get my cabinets completely replaced, have new granite countertops put in, and new stainless steal appliances for just over $15,000. Everything I purchased is of good quality, the cabinets are real wood and my price includes the labor it took to put everything in. This company is simply a rip off and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Response from American Wood Reface
The price that we provided for this member was our standard pricing and quality. Our product is only available with one level of quality which is equivalent to custom cabinetry or a very high-end stock cabinet. Our replacement doors are made from select grade solid wood and constructed with a true mortise and tenon joint. Our finish is a post catalyzed conversion varnish which offers exceptional wear and chemical resistance. These features are considered the highest standard in the cabinet industry. In addition, all our wood products come from North America with the majority originating in or very close to Ohio. As with any product that one purchases, there are varying levels of quality. Entry level new cabinetry is typically built with engineered wood cabinet sides covered with wood simulated photo paper that changes color differently with age than the wood parts of the cabinet. The center panels on doors are often veneer over particle board and the rail and stile are not a true mortise and tenon construction. Entry level finishes are also a lower quality coating in terms of durability and feel. As you move up in quality to match our product, the price goes up dramatically. Not knowing the quality of cabinetry that was installed makes for a difficult comparison to our product. However, we have had many of our customers show us quotes of equivalent quality new cabinetry and we are consistently about half the cost of a complete tear out and installation when a comparable quality product is installed.
