Services we offer
Solid wood kitchen cabinet refacing. New countertops (quartz, laminate, stone, or solid surface) available with or without refacing. With refacing, we also offer most services available with kitchen remodeling (e.g. wall tile, undercabinet lighting, trim work, new drawer boxes, and modify/add new cabinets).
The sales lady, Mary Jo London was excellent and pointed out things that should be done. Terry Murray, the craftsman is excellent and did a truly professional job. He was meticulous and careful. There was an unexpected delay in the delivery of new drawers, but in the end, not consequential.
Description of Work: Refaced cabinet frames, replaced all door and drawer fronts with wood, and new hardware. Also incorporated undercounter LED lights. Reconfigured the kitchen island replacing four doors with sliding shelves with six large drawers. Raised the over hood microwave and increased the space for the refrigerator by taking out cabinets above them and cutting them to allow for the new space and then reinstalling them..
Our kitchen looks amazing! It is apparent that quality is what this company strives fpr, from the major components to the smallest detail! And our carpenter, Ray, did an outstanding job as well as being a great person. As we show off our beautiful kitchen, we tell our family and friends about this company being a rare find in this age of “faster, cheaper”, American Wood Reface is committed to doing it first class!
Description of Work: Refaced our kitchen cabinets, facilitated the installation of granite countertops and backsplash tile, installed under cabinet lighting.
I had delayed for years, because I dreaded trying to find someone who would do a good job and dreaded going through the process of moving out of our kitchen and losing the use of it for weeks. Leanne, the salesperson, came and gave me an estimate on the spot, along with good suggestions for style, tile, etc. Jason Hicks, the owner, came out and confirmed all plans and measurements, also giving good suggestions. Both were easy to talk to and professional. Brandon, the carpenter, was excellent! He was both skilled and conscientious, along with being easy to have around for 3 weeks! Other people I spoke with that have been customers of American Wood Reface were also very pleased with their finished kitchens. I wish I had done it sooner!
Description of Work: Wood refacing of a large kitchen with many cupboards and drawers. Replacing 3 laminate counter tops with granite. Installing a new, built-in double oven and cooktop. Replacing some large drawers that were not built to store heavy cookware. Replacing knobs and drawer pulls. Replacing large crown molding. Replacing to large hutch doors with glass and mullions. Replacing some wooden shelving. Replacing some shelving with cupboards. Moving microwave up higher, according to code. Installing 5 undercabinet LED lights. Installing tile backsplash. Installing new double, pull-out trash drawer.
The project to remodel/reface my kitchen cabinets went extremely well. The project started on time and was completed on time which is an indication that the service provider, American Wood Reface knows it's business and the capabilities of it's workers. Terry Murphy was the carpenter who handled our remodel and I could not have been more pleased with his positive "can do" attitude in all our interactions and I was equally impressed with his carpentry knowledge. He took time with us to answer all questions and to ensure we were kept informed as the project progressed.
Excellent The main person who worked on our job was punctual, neat, cordial, and friendly . He updated us daily as to his progress and asked us to weigh in on details that made the ultimate product so beautiful. Although the time he took to complete the job was slightly longer than what was originally forecast it wasn't because he has tardy or ill prepared it was just a lot of work.. He did everything that we requested when we sat with the salesperson and even more things that he suggested to give us an even better look. He was thoughtful and always asked if his beginning and ending times were convenient for us . He always cleaned up the best he could each evening so we could have our house back . I cant say enough nice things about him. The person that installed the backsplash was slightly late one morning is about the only bad thing I an come up with. We were entirely satisfied and would recommend this company to others

This is a Bob Schmitt home with good quality cabinetry making it a very good choice to reface. The cabinetry was refaced in Select Cherry with Fruitwood stain. The countertops and wall tile were recently replaced so they remained in place. In addition to refacing, we replaced the existing undercabinet lights that ran hot and burned out frequently, with LED lights. All drawer boxes were replaced and upgraded to full-extension with soft close. All lower cabinetry except the sink base was converted to drawer banks to make it easier to access the lower cabinets and improve space utilization. Finally, soft close was added to the new doors for a silent kitchen. Thank you for your comments about all that were involved in your project. Jason - American Wood Reface
It went very well; attention was paid to all details throughout the process. Starting with Leanne, sales rep, who was punctual, friendly, and helpful in selecting design and products. She suggested the under cabinet lighting which I never even thought of. I felt comfortable with Leanne right away and she responded to all my email inquiries within 24 hours. RockSolid Stone Works provided the granite countertops. RSW sent a tech to measure with a laser! The first piece of granite they cut had a crack in it; they requested I return to the shop and approve another piece of granite. Their services were superb. FIVE GOLD STARS: Rick, the carpenter, is a very outgoing man who knows his stuff. Two sides to Rick: very amiable and friendly; very professional and a perfectionist. Showed up either on time or gave me a call to explain slight delay. Didn't keep me guessing which I appreciated. All the wood cabinets and drawer coverings were Amish-made and are simply beautiful. One of the cabinet doors was not drilled correctly; company ordered a replacement door; Rick came here on Sunday to replace it. He kept me apprised of his daily work and what would happen the next day. We were without a sink and water for only the first night per his plan to restore water the next day so dishwasher / sink were available for use. Took great care to respect our appliances and flooring. Daily clean up before leaving the premises. Glenn, the tile specialist, was also friendly and knowledgeable. He got right to it and the backsplash is perfect. Appreciated his knowledge and experience. Also took care to respect our appliances and flooring. When Rick left after he replaced the cabinet door, he assured me that if I have any problem at all, I was to call either him or American Wood Reface and they would address the issue immediately. I have every confidence that this would actually happen if it becomes necessary. I had called a reference in Fairview Park who was extremely happy with the install she received. She said she did have a problem, called them, and they came and corrected the issue the very next day. What more can I say?
Description of Work: Renovated our kitchen; refaced cabinets and drawers; Installed: under cabinet lighting; new bi fold doors for my washer/dryer area in kitchen; granite countertops; and backsplash. Also installed a new sink and garbage disposal. Work was completed in 11 business days without hassle.

We did have a rough start because they were running behind with previous jobs. There was some confusion about what I chose for the cabinets but once that got straightened out we were fine. There was a holiday in there so it also took a little longer than we anticipated but it eventually got done. We are satisfied with the outcome. It looks beautiful.

Start to finish was 6-1/2 days. Made sure kitchen was functioning in 2 days. Pat was our installer and was excellent. Mary Jo visited us twice to complete contract. Jason (owner) did all final measuring. All contacts could not have been nicer or more informative. This was an excellent experience, and we would highly recommend the company. Each day Pat cleaned up and left the kitchen as usable as possible. When we signed contract, an install date was given; and it did not change. They did not ask for any money until job was done!

The saleswoman was very friendly and professional. However, there were a few issues that I had. The price was extremely high for what I expected to pay. I have a very small 8x10 kitchen that is only half cabinets. I was able to purchase brand-new cabinets for the cost of refacing. And they are solid wood, high quality cabinets. Yes, it will be far messier and time-consuming, but it will cost a heck of a lot less. Also, remember that nothing inside the cabinet is included. So if you want something replaced inside (like a new drawer), it will cost you extra. They also do not finish the trim behind a door, so if you see a bit of your old cabinet color on the trim inside the door, it will remain once the cabinets are refaced. If you want something quick and easy, then I would recommend their services. Otherwise, buy new cabinets.

Response from American Wood Reface
Thank you for the feedback on our saleswoman and on our products. As with most products, there are varying levels of quality. It is true that you can replace cabinets at the same cost or even less than you can reface them but when comparing price it is important that the same quality is compared. We are focused on providing the same quality that you would get in custom cabinetry at a much lower price. Examples of our quality include the construction of the doors (hidden mortise and tenon construction), grade of wood (we only use select grade which minimizes the variation in color inherent in wood), and our finish (post catalyzed conversion varnish which is not typically used in stock cabinetry due to cost). In addition, our products are backed by a lifetime warranty for the original homeowner. Our product is not right for everyone but our customers that have compared equivalent quality new cabinetry to our refacing have consistently found us to be a better value. Thanks, Jason American Wood Reface

Overall it was a great experience. Leanne was the salesperson who worked with us initially. She came to our home and was very patient with us going through samples and pictures of previous work that was done. There was no pressure at all and we felt very comfortable with her. Some of the things that she quotes, we found alternatives (i.e. the countertop and tile backsplash install) that were cheaper, so we didn't have AWR take care of those. After reading all these reviews on Angies, we felt comfortable giving this company our business. Later, after we signed the contract, Jason (the owner) and another carpenter came out to measure out the cabinets and walkthrough the planned job. The actual work of the install took place a number of weeks later. We were under the crunch of trying to finish most of the remodel by the holidays and they were on time and very professional. Most of the work was done by a carpenter named Pat. He was very polite and always cleaned up after himself. The job was done within the 2 week time period that was scheduled. Cabinets look great, very high quality. Appreciate the splurge on soft door closing hinges. There was one issue where Pat had some difficulty hiding the wiring of our hood and installed it in a way that did not hide the wiring at all. I was not there for the install and was upset that this was his intended solution, so I wrote to Jason and he was very responsive for making things right. Ultimately, they refunded me the amount of money that it took for a friend of mine to do the electrical work to hide the wiring ($75) which was appreciated. I found AWF a good company to work with to have our cabinets refaced. Our kitchen looks fantastic- much better than it would have been if we just painted our cabinets. I wish that they would have been able to do the venting work for the hood install, but I realize that this is not their specialty. Overall, even though it wasn't necessarily cheap, I feel like I got my money's worth from working with this company and would not hesitate to use them again. I appreciated their responsiveness to my feedback and their willingness to make things right.
Description of Work: American Wood Reface did a reface of our kitchen cabinets, from old maples cabinets to a white Shaker style cabinets. They did carpentry work to move our above stove microwave and installed a range hood (that we provided). They also created a space above the oven and moved it downwards to house a countertop microwave and installed a number of drawer pull outs instead of some cabinets that we had before.
American Wood Reface is a top-notch company and we strongly recommend anyone considering a kitchen remodel and/or cabinet resurfacing to contact them for an in-home consultation. From the no-pressure salesman Ben, to the owner Jason who came out to measure and made some great suggestions, to the carpenter Brandon who spent 10 days transforming our 50 year old kitchen into a beautiful showpiece, everything this company does is outstanding. Our cabinets were refaced using solid wood fronts, solid wood doors and solid wood drawer fronts. We chose to replace all our drawers with new dovetail constructed boxes that are full extension soft close. We converted (at Jason?s suggestion) several base cabinets to large drawers which ended up being an excellent choice! The large drawers are also full extension soft close and are way more convenient to access contents instead of stacking items behind each other on shelves. We have a standalone refrigerator in our kitchen layout, so we had a brand new cabinet built that now makes the fridge look ?built in? without the extra cost of buying a counter depth appliance. We replaced our countertop with granite and received several large samples to take home during the decision process. One final appointment allowed us to pick out the actual slab used to make our countertop. Our ?splurge? was adding the under cabinet lighting. If you are on the fence about this expense? do it! The led lights provide excellent task lighting and we installed dimmable switches which provide beautiful ambient lighting that accents our new custom kitchen. This review would not be complete without mentioning the following: pricing remained consistent from day 1 and disruption was minimal. Ben priced out the job at our first meeting including available category granite options and add-ons such as cabinet lighting. After signing the initial contract, we had a few change orders (our choice) and pricing was exactly the same as we were told at the first home visit. Also the inconvenience and disruption were minimal during this remodel process. We were able to use our kitchen the entire time with the exception of one day when we couldn?t use the new undermount sink for 24 hours after installation. Our carpenter Brandon used drop cloths to protect flooring and cleaned up everyday by the time we came home from work. Bottom line: when comparing American Wood Reface with other alternatives, keep in mind that to accurately compare, look at the price tag of Amish built custom cabinetry. We discovered that our 50 year old cabinets were built better than most of what?s available at Home Depot, Lowe?s, and other retailers. During the 10 days Brandon spent at our home, he measured and attached all the solid wood fronts on-site so they fit our existing cabinets perfectly. The end result is everything this company advertises: beauty and quality of a custom kitchen at up to half the cost. During the recent Thanksgiving holiday, our family and friends could not believe that our cabinets were refaced because they look entirely brand new. Everyone absolutely loved our new kitchen and we already have 3 referral requests. Thank you American Wood Reface for your commitment in offering quality products and excellent service. It is truly refreshing in today?s market to find a company that not only delivers what it claims, but goes above and beyond expectations. Thanks again! We love our new dream kitchen! American Wood Reface was timely and professional in every respect. Pricing was very fair and significantly below the cost of replacing the cabinets with new cabinets - even though the end result looks like new cabinets. The company did not "nickel and dime" on changes that we requested during the job. If they were minor, they did it for no upcharge; if they were significant, the pricing was fair. The job started on time (when promised) and finished on time.
Description of Work: American Wood Reface refaced all of our cabinetry in our kitchen. Cabinetry was 40 years old; now looks like new.
We met Jason at the Great Big Home & Garden Show on 2/13/15 and discussed what we were looking for and the timeframe we needed it done. It does take quite a bit of time from when they come out to when it is complete, but we just needed it done by June so it was not an issue. Mary Jo came out on 3/6/15 to discuss what we wanted and give an estimate. She brought many samples to choose from for the cabinets, hardware and countertop. She was very helpful with making suggestions and discussing possible solutions for our "problem" corner cabinet. When we decided on everything she did her paperwork and came up with the cost of the project. She didn't play any "guess the price" games as others had done, it was their price and it was a fair price. Also, we weren't pressured into committing at that time, we could call them when we decided. I like the no pressure, no games approach and we decided to go forward with the project. Jason came out on 4/6/15 to do the measurements for everything and go over the project with us. He made some suggestions for adjustments to our original thoughts on the "problem corner cabinet" which we agreed with and decided to go with to optimize our space. On 4/20/15 the Custom Design Countertop guy came out to measure the countertop. Our countertop was kind of a problem because the old one went over the tile and the new one was going under the tile. The actual project got started on 5/10/15 and was completed on 5/18/15. This included the cabinets and the countertop guys scheduling around each other so everything went in smoothly. The only small hitch was that my husband noticed where the tile was removed next to the stove, the new backsplash didn't cover the unfinished wall. He also wanted the countertop by the stove a bit wider so stuff didn't fall down in between the countertop and stove or refrigerator on the other side. Jason came out and looked it over to make adjustments. The countertop guy came out on 5/22/15 and installed the new backsplash and countertop piece. Project complete! I love my new kitchen and have gotten many compliments on how it looks! The new cabinets make my little kitchen look bigger and brighter. I especially love the way the corner cupboard was redone. I've gained space and can easily access all my pots and pans that I now store there. I also love that the cupboards and drawers don't squeak! It is a high quality kitchen renovation at a reasonable price! All the employees that we dealt with were highly professional, very experienced and extremely customer friendly. I highly recommend this company if you are looking to have your kitchen refaced.
