Thompson Chimney Services

A crew came to NKy from Columbus because their Cincinnati crew was unavailable right now. They came within a week of my call to them. I wanted them to install a chimney cap and they came back 2 days later and did that.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List. They did an extremely good job. They were extremely clean. They swept off the chimney as till the end of the fire. I have had a chimney swept done several times before. They did a better job and there wasn't a speck of dust left anywhere. They had very good equipment. I'll take an advantage of the deal again, if they call me again. They went outside and looked at the chimney crown. They gave me an estimate on how much it would cost to do some tuck pointing. I never had any problems. It was very clean afterwards. A lot of times, they bring these industrial strengths vacuums and I ended up with a very clean fireplace. I have no opinion about how much it would cost with others.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND PAYING FOR HIS EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT BEFORE HE IS EVER HIRED TO DO THE JOB. LOUSY COMPANY POLICY!!!!!

I told him that I was an Angie's List member, he offers a discount for 10% off for anything over $300, with a $209 estimate fee that doesn't leave much room for service. Very arrogant, did not seemed interested in his customers at all.

The service call went well according to my husband. He really liked the service man who cleaned the chimney and offered my husband tips on what he could do to maximize the use of the chimney. My husband was very pleased with him since the last person that came out told him the chimney was un-usable. This service man said it is fine, but needed a couple of small things done, but it is perfectly usable, and in good shape.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They were clean about it. They made sure that none of the dirt got inside the house. For $99 I couldn't beat it. I didn't have any problems.

The inspector found the fireplace has not been used there he promised to come back next year to clean it free.

Mike had to originally cancel due to a family emergency, which was not a problem. Once that was taken care of, he rescheduled and came over on a very snowy Saturday morning (I would have expected him to cancel) and performed the inspection and cleaning quickly and efficiently. We were very happy with the service.

They were clean and did a good job. Everything seemed to go well. They were pretty standard.

D.M. Thompson scheduled my sweep within a week of my call. They conveniently met me at home on my lunch hour and arrived right on time. The sweep was finished in record time with no mess and I did not miss a minute of work. I will definitely use them again.

Everything went fine and as expected. We have continued to use their services since then.

Nothing negative only positive comments. Did all the do's and none of the don'ts.

I responded to the special chimney sweep offer on Angie's List and received a call from Thompson shortly. Their representative came to my home and after a number of attemps could not get the flue to open. He then gave me an additional quote to open an access door in my chimney at $300 which would require a second visit by others at Thompson and would be scheduled by their office personnel. Second visit was scheduled and two men from Thompson arrived on January 24, 2013. Their attempt to open the flue was successful, hence no need for access door. The flue was repaired and the chimney swept. My furniture was moved to accommodate the work and replaced when work was complete. There was no mess during this dirty process in that a huge sweeper was used. A small smudge on the white fireplace was carefully removed.. Workers were pleasant and easy to work with. I was pleased that they informed me I would not need the $300 access panel and thought this was refreshingly honest in that I would have never known it was not needed. All that was required was the repair of the flue which amounted to $145. I now have a working fireplace!

The initial estimate went well, a good set of choices of materials were offered and the plan presented was reasonable. On the day the work was supposed to start, it was raining lightly, so I called their offices repeatedly to see if they were still coming, but never reached anyone for several hours. Two hours after they were supposed to start, their foreman (?) stopped by to tell me that "obviously" they weren't going to work that that day. I explained that I had taken the morning off work to wait for them and I had been calling his cell phone, but he had no explanation for not returning my calls. We rescheduled for the following week, and with better weather they got started about a half hour late. The demolition went well, but I found that the roof around the chimney needed replacement too, and since their work included top flashing, I needed to work around them to get the roof replaced so the top flashing could go over top of it. The workers were helpful and supportive of me as I worked around their efforts, and they delayed the top flashing a bit to let me lay shingle and get the roof ready. The rebuild of the chimney generally went well and the brickwork looked really good from three sides, but there was a small but noticeable bulge spanning 5 or 6 courses on the side facing the roof. The new crown was nicely done and sealed, though it took them a week or so to get in a cap of the right size. I had to remind them to tuckpoint the firebox, which they did at the end in a bit of a rush, more as an afterthought and only around a few bricks. A few months later I noticed a small amount of rainwater leaking in around the joint between the chimney and the roof, but I have not yet been able to determine the exact source of the leak.

They did what we asked and I was pleased.

He was very helpful, gave me more information about chimneys, and I enjoyed working with him.

The chimney sweep showed up on time and was very pleasant. He got all his equipment setup for the job and went right to work. He did a great job and cleaned everything up when he was finished. I now feel more comfortable having a fire in my fireplace. I would hire this company again.

First Big Deal ever purchased. Went well. Company represenative came when scheduled and I felt like I got a good deal.

The gentleman came on time and was very professional. He laid down mats to protect our new carpet. He cleaned out our wood-burning fireplace with brushes and a vacuum cleaner and he inspected our chimney. He cleaned the chimney very well and gave us a written inspection report. He said the chimney was in great shape. I wanted to know the price of converting the wood-burning fireplace to gas and he also gave me an estimate for that. I would recommend this company to others.
