Our overall experience went excellently. The staff is very friendly and professional. The sub contractors were top of their trade. They spend the time to deliver a quality product. Their workmanship is truly amazing. I would highly recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They came to finish the basement in our basement.

Had contracted Shonave for covered patio. Had to have concrete poured twice as he would not listen to his subs and it poured rain the first time. His subs did not cover our brand new windows when they were pulling brick to put roof on and they had to file an insurance claim for over $4,000 but I had to put up with the time and mess of having the new windows pulled and replaced. His sub came to seal the porch and dripped the stained sealer all over our brand new limestone steps. The contractor had his painter come in the dark with no notice to us that they were coming, put a ladder on the back of the house and proceed to climb up to the roof and paint in the dark. That too had to be redone. The contractor would show up at night without ringing the doorbell and then he would bang on the kitchen window in the dark to let us know he was here - totally unprofessional. We asked him countless times to please not have his subs park on the driveway or him and both he and they continued to park on the driveway and drip oil. We had the inside of our home extensively remodeled and it was not stressful at all with Auer Kitchens. This outdoor covered patio should have taken less than 4 months and should have been completed at the latest in October - we are still working on it since he now has to figure out how to get the stains out of the limestone. A simple drop cloth would have saved this damage. He clearly has no clue on building or working with subs and his subs clearly do not listen to him. The whole thing was a disaster. In order to fix the stained limestone he will probably have to pull and replace the limestone steps - how unfortunate. To date, he has not come back to check the damage that was done this time.
Description of Work: We added a covered porch to the back of our home. We had an architect design the porch and hired Shonave to build it - some of our decision was based on his price. This should have been a four month project tops and he should have finished no later than October and we are still working on it. It is June and he just sealed it - unfortunately his sub dripped a lot of stained sealer on our brand new limestone steps and the side of the house.

On day 1, Dave Meere calls me to ask if I have a monkey wrench that he can use because he is having problems with replacing the main house water valve. While trying to replace the valve, he damaged it and had to go to the home supply store up the road to buy another one. He was in my house on day one from 4:00 PM until 9:30 that night before finally fixing the valve. I told Dave that I wanted everything replaced, and I showed him the tub and glass doors that were currently on the tub. On day 2, he had carefully removed the glass doors and placed them against my bedroom wall. I asked him why they were not out at the trash and his reply was "I am trying to keep down costs" but I had told him in the initial meeting that the tub and doors were to be replaced. It took Dave a week just to get the tile off and the tub out. He asked if there was a specific style of tub that I wanted, or if I wanted a walk-in shower. I opted for a walk-in shower. He chose the ugliest and cheapest manufactured-home grade walk in flimsy 3 piece shower I had ever seen. While installing the shower, his shoddy workmanship with placing the wall studs lead to large gaps between the plastic shower walls and the studs that created bowing of the plastic walls. I had to instruct him to shim the studs to ensure a tight fit of the plastic shower walls to the studs or he would have left them that way. When he finished the job, I used the shower and on the VERY FIRST TIME I used it, there was water gushing from BEHIND the faucet covering and running down the inside of the shower wall under the faucet. He had damaged the shower faucet when he installed it. I called Dave to let him know the situation and his response was "don't stop using the shower." He had to replace the inside faucet part and call a real plumber to repair his work. The caulking Dave used was not the recommended caulking that the manufactured-home shower maker recommended, so when I brushed it with my foot, the caulking came off the wall. I called Dave back yet again and he came over and did a complete slop job of removing the wrong caulk and re-caulking. My master bath was unavailable for 3 full weeks while Dave screwed it up. That is two weeks longer than his estimate. Dave did not provide any list of the materials or labor costs that constituted his price quote to me, even after I asked him for it. I was misled and feel cheated regarding the service I received. I would NOT recommend Dave Meere or Shonave Homes for any type of remodeling or repair work in your home...ever!
Description of Work: UPDATE 2/15/2013 - THE WALK-IN SHOWER THAT DAVE OF SHONAVE HOMES INSTALLED (see my post below) IS LEAKING IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE THE TUB THAT HE REPLACED WAS LEAKING. IT WAS THE LEAKING TUB THAT PROMPTED THE WORK TO BE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. HIS WORK IS NOT EVEN 3 YEARS OLD AND IT IS LEAKING!!!! Remove old tub, glass doors, tile, and shower faucet, install new tub, glass doors, tile and shower faucet. Replace main house water valve. Dave Meere, of Shonave Custome Homes, gave me an estimate of $3,500 for the entire job. Dave said the job was to take 1 week.

Response from SHONAVE HOMES
This project was quoted and price agreed upon before work was started. Shower glass was saved to give the member the opportunity to save money since this was the concern from day one. All materials were agreed upon during the job and everything was installed and working properly upon completion. I was never called with any problems or concerns. He paid upon completion and I never once heard from him - this negative response was pointed out to me by a new client. This is clearly someone who is just upset over spending money that they really shouldn't have. Please visit our website and read the testimonials there. In 15+ years of building award winning homes and remodels I have never had this kind of negative response.
