The removal of the old units went well. The service men removed and disposed of all the old equipment. Instalation of the new went well . I had no complaints with the service or service men. The service men were on site on time and left no mess. The installed Westing House unit has worked very well especially in this summers 100+ temperatures.

Everything went great. Al's Heating offered a much cheaper brand, but I decided to go with the Westinghouse because of the better warranty and perhaps better reliability. My old off brand heat pump was 18 years old (useful life is 13-15 years), but required replacement of the compressor fan every four to six years ($160.00-$300.00 for each repair). The new Westinghouse is 3 ton vs. 2 1/2 ton for the old unit. The inside blower of the Westinghouse is much more powerful than the old unit. We can set the heat on 64 degrees, and it feels warmer than when the heat was set on 68 degrees on the old unit. The Westinghouse also seems to cool much better in hot weather. The old unit would not go below in 75-80 degrees in real hot weather, whereas the Westinghouse will keep the temperature below 70 degrees even when the temperature outside is 95 degrees. The Westinghouse outside compressor is very quiet. The old unit's compressor had a continuous, loud, harsh, unpleasant sound. The Westinghouse outside blower is almost silent. The old unit's blower roared loudly. My electric bill may be lower, but it is hard to figure due to changes in weather from year to year. Al's Heating immediately provided proof the Westinghouse qualified for a Federal Energy Income Tax credit before I made my purchase. Another highly advertized local vendor could not furnish proof, so I cancelled my contract for a new unit from that other vendor.
Description of Work: Installed Westinghouse 3 ton High Efficiency 15 SEER Heat Pump with Electric Furnace, digital thermostat, etc., with variable speed blower, Newtron air cleaner, and two free service checks in 2012. Includes 10 year warranty on parts and labor; also 10 year quality pledge which I believe is free replacement (not repair) of the compressor if it fails during the first ten years.

Their installation was messy and un-professional. Owner promised a energy savings by going with a larger unit which has not happened. Our energy bill has actually gone up! I tried to shop locally and help small businesses in the area, never again.

This is a total surprise to me and my office staff. We have not had any communication from this customer since the coil problem he had in December 2010. (which was 100% parts & labor covered under warranty), except to go back and clean his units, as per the service plan. I wish I would have known he was having problems or issues, I would have done my best to make him happy. As for the messy/unprofessional install, I have an issue with his response, We received NO phone calls or letters from him about any disapproval. We will make it Right if we have not installed equipment correctly or have forgotten something. ( YES we all make mistakes). We will be sending a letter to him, asking if there is anything we can do to make him happy. His equipment has a 10 year parts and Labor warranty AND a replacement guarantee. PLEASE REMEMBER with any contractor, they can not read minds. YOU MUST let them know any problem that you may have with the service or equipment, for them to RIGHT a WRONG.

The repairman called before coming out and actually asked if he could arrive earlier than the appointment time, which worked out great for me. He was courteous and efficient, even took a look at my furnace to answer a separate question I had about dehumidifiers. All in all, a good experience with Al's. I had used them before, and I will call them again.

Will never use again. Solution to 2500 sq ft house too hot in summer and too cold in winter on 2nd floor was to install a second Heat Pump for 2nd floor. They did initial install 7 years ago, my bills at 67 in winter and 72 in summer are nearly always $450.00 to $500.00 per month! Heat pump runs constantly in summer and winter. They have NO solution for this and offer NO help. Their people are polite, that's the best I can say.

I do not understand this. We DID NOT do the initial install, We replaced the original system, with the same size equipment that was in the house. The duct work originally installed when the house was built would not handle a larger unit. We did give a solution, needs more A/C, add a second system. ( just as we did in the previous customers comments) AGAIN ???? P.S. We were hired again 6/1/2011 for a service call

Rick Cox did the estimate. I was impressed that he immediately proposed a clever solution to the problem of a currently un-cooled 3rd floor plus insufficiently cooled second floor. In addidtion to replacing the existing furnace and cental air which covered the basement, first and second floors he added a separate central AC unit for the third floor plus added vents in the second floor ceilings to boost the second floor cooling. The comfort of the house in both winter and especially summer has been enormously improved. In addition, summer cooling bills have dropped by more than half even with keeping somewhat lower temperatures. After two years the Westinghouse units have been extremely reliable; no breakdowns or service calls other than half yearly inspections. The job itself was difficult. Removing the old furnace (at least 50 yrs old) required its partial disassembly in the basement and hauling heavy parts up a steep and narrow stairway from the basement. The third floor had no vent system so this had to be installed as well as the other interior hardware in a very cramped and extremely hot crawl space.
Description of Work: Replaced existing furnace and central air conditioning system. Added a second central air system for the previously un-air conditioned 3rd floor. Added a humidifier to the furnace.

A/C worked yesterday but woke up and it was not working. Checked Angies List because weren't satisfifed with company used in the fall who said could not check heat pump until summer. Liked reviews for Al's. Called and they came same afternoon. Tech asked questions, narrowed problem down right away. Totally comfortable with the level of expertise. Also checked freon and filled it. Gave tips for use of fan in summer. Will call this company again for furnace and A/C issues.

When Chris arrived to determine the problem, he was prompt and professional. He explained the problem and helped us restore heat until the part could be replaced. He was back within a few days (orignal visit on Thursday; part replaced first thing Tuesday morning) to replace the part and the system has been working great since. The actual cost came in less than orignally estimated, even excluding the service plan discount. Service was top-notch; we will use them again wtihout question!
Description of Work: Our gas heat was not turning on (have a dual system - heat pump and gas heat), and we had cold air blowing into the house in mid December. Chris came out the same day we called to check the system - we needed to replace the motherboard in the furnace.

I had a second opinion and used another company to have my furnace replaced they were cheaper and it was a 90% efficiency furnace. Months later he decided he was going to bill me for the service call and the ignition switch. I told him I would pay for the service charge but not the switch because it didn't fix the problem. In Oct '08, I paid him for the service call. I just received a bill for the ignition switch and he is threatening to send me to collections if it is not paid. I had used him for 6 years prior to this too.
Description of Work: In Feb/March last year, I was having problem with my furnace. They came out and told me it was the ignition switch. They replaced the switch. I came home the next day and there was no heat. He thought it needed a different switch so put on a different switch. A couple days later it went out again. They came out again and told me the furnace needed to be replaced and they gave me an estimate. The furnace he recommended was an 80% efficiency furnace plus a heat pump.

The bill is for the original service call and part, which she should have paid for at the time of service. We did not charge her for the second part when we replaced it a week later and found the cross over tube burnt out. We suggested replacing the furnace, not the part. The parts we installed worked until she had the furnace replaced. We stand by our reputation with Angie's List and she still owes her bill. - Richard Cox, President.

I have a 22 year old home with original AC, furnace and water heater. Had freon leaking problem since last summer. Our installation went very well. We have been very happy with being able to control the humidity in the house in the winter months. I have allergies, and controlling the humidity has helped my allergies. We got specific instructions on what to set the percentages at, based on the time of year. However, this past Spring, I had to make a phone call to request them to come out per the contract. Maybe I was mistaken, but I thought they would schedule us. I called the office and the woman that answered the phone said that they were busy helping other folks who call in and the ones that have the service contract are typically filled in last and it depends on the first letter of your last name. Of course, we are toward the end of the alphabet. She went ahead and scheduled something and they came out, but now I know that we have to be proactive on calling them if we want routine maintenance per the service contract.
Description of Work: Last Christmas, we had Al's Heating and A/C install a whole house humidifier and we also signed on to their service contract. According to the service contract, they will come out in the Spring and Fall to check our air conditioner and heat pump.

When I asked Al's Heating and Cooling this morning to come fix our air conditioner, they promised to call back between noon and 4PM. The call came shortly after noon, and the service person showed up very soon after that. He quickly ascertained that it was probably a slow leak and topped off the freon tank. He also told me that if the air conditioner should stop working again before the end of the current cooling season, he would come back to fix the leak without the customary service charge. The service person was very courteous, professional and he patiently answered all my questions.

Over the weekend our heat went out, we called first thing on a Monday morning and two technicians were at our home by 10am to investigate. I was told by the woman that answered the phone that she would cancel the order. The salesman then called and said I would have to pay a restocking charge for items already ordered and received. I questioned how things could have been ordered and received in such a short time over the weekend. He said they had and would send me a bill. I received a bill dated 2/27/07 for Restocking fee - 5% of canceled job for $262. I called and left a voice mail requesting a list of the items that were ordered and received per the first phone conversation. I never heard back. On 7/3/07, I received a letter from a collection agency trying to collect a debt for Al's Heating and Cooling. I replied by letter them, then received a letter from Al's on 8/7/07 saying they had a standard 5% cancellation fee (that is not in the contract). I had contacted local TV station in Cincinnati about a 72 hour cancellation law. He replied that I do not owe any cancellation fee.
Description of Work: An estimate was given to install a new heat pump and air conditioner. The contract was signed and the salesman left at approximately 4:00 pm on Friday, 2/23/07. First thing Monday, 2/26/07 I called and said I wanted to cancel.

The member is correct that she did sign the contract and she can canceled Monday. The reason she canceled was she later found a cheaper price. We do not have a problem with this issue, however, we did order the equipment and had it delivered. This charge is a restocking fee only. She is correct concerning a 72 hour window for cancellation without a fee, but only if a contract has not been signed and agreed upon equipment is not delivered.
