Description of Work: I have a 3 story home. Last year had half of the house insulated by Energy Smart Ins. and even just having half the house my gas bill was reduced a lot. They did an excellant job, so of course when I wanted the rest done I called ESI to do the job. They where on time, completed in 1 1/2 day. + -1 moreI talked to several contractors before hiring Energy Smart. A fair price, an outstanding reputation, and my positive interactions with Nate caused me to go with them. Nate was extremely detail oriented in explaining what the options were for making my home more energy efficient. He didn't try to push me into additional services that would offer diminishing returns, and was just a really good guy to deal with. Almost a year later, our home (especially the finished 3rd floor) is more comfortable, temperatures are consistent from room to room, and perhaps most importantly, my energy bills are a fraction of what they used to be. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the results. On a related note, I had an independent energy audit of my home, before and after the work was done by Energy Smart. They noted a nearly 35% reduction in air leakage after the work was done. The guy performing the audit noted that the results were just spectacular, and one of the best improvements he's seen from such work. Highly recommended.

From my initial phone call to find out more information about air sealing and insulation to the consultation about what made the most sense for my home and the actual work, I found Energy Smart to be simply phenomenal. Nate really took the time to make sure I understood and was making the best decisions when it came to insulating and air sealing my home. He also helped to maximize my dollars by recommending an energy audit and rebate program available in my area from Dominion, which he facilitates in every way possible. The work performed by the Energy Smart staff reinforced the same level of service - they did a quality job, were efficient, respectful and cleaned up after themselves. You can't ask for better! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ENERGY SMART! For once, I am looking forward to this winter since I know my home is more equipped for Cleveland temperatures and will be more comfortable this year!

He is very informed, professional and honest as to what needed to be done to make our home more energy efficient. He respected our decision on material choices and listened to our concerns. He was very fair in pricing and even told us he would complete all the paperwork needed for us to receive our rebates from Dominion. His crew was prompt and they immediatly introduced themselves. They laid down tarps to protect our flooring and cleaned up when they were done. On a whole, just a really nice group of guys. I highly recommend Nate and his crew. If I could give them an A+ I would!

+ -1 moreThis job was done in conjunction with the Dominion Energy Audit Program and the inspector was very pleased with the work as well. The upstairs area was normally closed off year round due to the amount of air leakage. The leakage was reduced by 60%. Although still a bit warmer (due mostly to the high temps this year) upstairs than downstairs, we have left the doors upstairs open. I expect to see reduced energy bills in the months to come. Although I didn't talk to the laborers at any length, they were knowledgeable and courteous. Nate was extremely helpful, knowledgable and professional. I would highly recommend Energy Smart Insulation to anyone with an insulation project.
Description of Work: The project included a 2300 sq. ft. cape code with knee walls. Two poorly sealed doors existed on the east wall, with no access to the west wall and peak of roof. Two new hatches were cut, framed and sealed properly. Solarguard was applied to the kneewalls, new bathroom fan installed by me and vented to the outside by Energy Smart. The floors were cut open on the inside of the kneewall spaces to pack insulation under the floors and where the joists meet the floor. R49+ was then blown into the spaces providing an approx R60+. Basement sealing was also performed.

+ -1 moreNate gave a very detailed quote and answered all my questions. The crew was on time, neat, professional and answered any questions I had. I had little to no insulation in my attics. I noticed immediately a temperature difference upstairs. During the hot months, my upstairs would be about 5 degrees higher than the downstairs, and my air conditioner couldn't keep up. Once the insulation was installed, there's pretty much no temperature difference. I am very interested to see how the temperature holds in the winter. Nate told me he'd complete the Dominion rebate form. He did and my rebate came in about four weeks. I am very pleased with the services provided by Energy Smart Insulation. Also, if you're thinking of getting insulation, I recommend doing it before the rebate program ends. I saved almost $1,000.

Nate and his crew performed every aspect of the jobs required professionally and were punctual every day they had to return. I had soo many questions and concerns about the different things they were going to do and each one of them took the time to go over in detail and actually educate me on healthy home environment. Start to finish the job took three days including installing the roof vents,,,which was added to the work order last minute. Also Nate informed me of rebate options through Dominion...appreciated that very much. These guys are great..They felt like family by the time job was done...Thanx Nate, Clayton, Craig and Scott!!
Description of Work: Nate came out and gave me an estimate on insulating my top attic with cellulose and fiberglass insulation, install ventilation baffles in every roof joist, air seal attic, install attic tent, air seal basement and insulate band joists, and insulate walls of old section of my home and install roof vents.

Description of Work: Nate Adams, owner, was very responsive. His estimate was realistic, i.e., better than two others, and he did all work to the estimate. The job involved insullating the attic from a R-30 rating to a R-49 rating. The attic was air sealed around the chimney, 32 recessed light cans, fans, and skylight walls. Crew arrived on time, did job as scheduled and cleaned up after the job was done. This was particularly important because some of the material had to be moved through the house and into the attic through a bedroom closet. I know this company did at least 12 more jobs in our neighborhood. I am unaware of any neighbor complaints.

+ -1 moreWe called Nate to get an estimate for insulating what is to be our master bedroom (an attached garage that the previous oeners had converted). When we installed new windows, we discovered they never put in insulation. Smart move in Ohio! Nate did a very thorough inspection of the house and pointed out a lot of areas that we would never have thought to check. He also gave us suggestions as to what really needed to be done now, what would be easy and more cost effective to do on our own, and future updates that would benefit us. He gave us an itemized price quote (with the actual cost and the amount of the rebate) so we could pick and choose what we wanted to have done, explained his policy for a 1/3 deposit with the rest due at completion, and then told us about the energy audits and rebate programs that both Dominion and First Energy offer. I really wish we had known about those before we replaced all of the windows in our home as well. Nate then told up that he even takes care of sending in all of the rebate forms so we would not have to worry about completing them and doing so correctly. Just like everything else, one little error gets everything kicked back. We decided that we really liked Nate and the job he did. We scheduled out Dominion audit for the 17th and Nate's crew was able to start on the 18th. He sent over 3 workers who were prompt, very courteous and respectful. Although I told them my floors were in desperate need of mopping, they still removed their shoes every tome they came in until they had their drop cloths down. The worked very quickly and effeciently and kept me updated as to their progress. They werevery tollerant and slightly amused by my toddler who insisted on saying hello to them every time they were in her line of sight, as well as with the dog who had to sniff and greet them every 10 minutes. Once they finished their work they did a very thorough cleanup and walked my husband through everything they had done. They also gave him suggestions on the easiest and safest ways to complete the work we were planning to do on our own. Their bill was spot on with the estimate. Nate, thank you for the amazing service and work performance. You are a very upfront and honest person to do business with and have a wonderful crew. + -1 moreThis was a successful contract from start to finish. Nate came out to estimate the job after I got an energy audit through Good Cents (Dominion Gas). He was very thorough and spent a lot of time reviewing the audit and explaining to me what was needed. He gave me options for work I could do myself if I wanted to. In addition, Nate is very knowledgeable about the Dominion Rebate program and was able to estimate the rebates available for each segment of the job. On the day of the job a crew of three came and spent 8 hours working. They were neat, quiet, and hardworking. They shook out the tarps before bringing them into the house and covered everywhere they walked to get to the attic. They were happy to answer my questions and did a very thorough job. They offered to empty out the few things I had stored in the attic so they could add all the insulation necessary. Then they took pictures of the attic so I did not have to climb up to see the work. Nate took care of submitting the forms to Dominion for the rebate which made the whole process very easy. This is a very professional company that does excellent work.
Description of Work: They insulated the attic completely with R42 fiberglass and cellulose. They also air sealed the attic with caulk and foam at plumbing lines, electrical wires, chimney and bathroom ceiling fan as well as all wall cavities. They insulated the crawl space beneath a room addition by installing batts in the band joists to improve on the existing wall insulation. They sealed all the basement ductwork with mastic. Also sealed any trouble areas we identified where air was seeping through the basement ceiling. They caulked around windows and the fireplace mantel in the room addition and installed a chimney balloon in an unused fireplace in the living room.

+ -1 moreI couldn't be happier with the overall process. Nate arrived at the specified time to provide me with an estimate for the work I asked for. He did a thorough check of not only my attic, but my entire house. My house is older and not much of anything has been done to make this house energy efficient by the former owner. He explained his findings to me and gave me a reasonable estimate for the work that needed to be done for the whole house. I told him that at this time I was only able to have the attic insulated. He broke down his findings into 3 scenarios so that I could do everything at once or just what I was able to do at the moment. There was never any pressure whatsoever to tackle the whole house or even any portion of it. I decided to go with Energy Smart so we set up an appointment for the attic alone. His crew arrived on time. They were very professional and polite. They completed the job in a reasonable amount of time and cleaned up when they were finished. When I looked at what they had done, I was very impressed with what they had accomplished. They worked very hard. I am very happy and pleased with the whole process. I will be using Nate and his company again to complete the work that he recommended that I do for the rest of the house.

+ -1 moreNate arrived to discuss and estimate the potential work promptly on time, to the minute. He was professional, polite and easy to talk to. He explained everything in great detail, including the rebate program from Dominion Energy I would qualify for. He spent a couple of hours in my home and left me with a detailed work plan and estimate. If anything, he talked a bit too much - not a problem in my book! My husband and I had several questions over the next week and exchanged many emails with Nate; he always answered our questions quickly and clearly. We decided to hire him to do the work. This was in mid-November; Nate was backed up until January so we scheduled the work for then. On the project day a crew of three arrived, again right on time. They were very polite. The crew foreman explained exactly how the work would proceed, though Nate had already done that. They covered my floors and stairs with dropcloths (of course it was snowy outside that day, one of the only times this winter!). The work was complicated and took about 6-7 hours total. The foreman, as well as one of the other guys (one was pretty quiet), took time to answer any questions I had throughout the day, even encouraging me to climb up several times to see what they'd done. We thought we'd have to access a small attic by cutting a panel in the bathroom. Thanks to the crew's ingenuity they were able to cut through from the main attic, saving a lot of mess and repair work. I was grateful they did this, even though it made the job a bit more challenging for the crew. They worked nonstop all day, only taking a 15 minute break to eat lunch in their truck. I tried to get them to eat inside! Nate stopped by for an hour or so to make sure all was going well, and once again spent some time with me going over the invoice and rebate papers. He had completely filled them out for us which was great. When all the work was done, the guys cleaned up quite well- I had much less to do myself than expected. Overall, they were nice guys, competent and pleasant to have in my home. All in all, we are very pleased with Energy Smart Insulation and would recommend them highly. *We haven't yet had the follow-up visit from the home energy auditor, a mandatory part of the rebate program. However I would expect Dominion to find the work was done correctly. If not, as part of the program, Nate will be back to fix anything not in compliance.

+ -1 moreWe contacted Nate Adams for an estimate on insulating our house. He met with my husband who was immediately impressed with Nate's professionalism and knowledge. Nate outlined different options for insulation, kind of like a Chinese menu, and helped us prioritize according to our budget. We chose to insulate the attic (which we did on 2/21) and the walls of our home (which will be done in the spring, since Nate told us that the process for this is more smooth when the weather is warm). Nate advised us that the biggest change in comfort will be when the walls are done, but doing the attic would cut down on heating bills. Though so far we have only done the attic, the house does seem warmer already. Nate is a super nice guy, very easy to talk to and to work with, doesn't make you feel like he's rushing you, etc. His team was great, very thorough, knowledgeable, clean, polite. They explained everything to us before they left. Another thing - Nate walks you through the process of getting a rebate from the gas company for money that you have spent on insulation. An excellent experience. Can't wait until the walls are done in the spring!

+ -1 moreThe entire experience was great. Nate was the third insulation contractor that I spoke with and the ONLY one who mentioned Dominion's rebate program. After all is said and done I expect to recieve over $1000 rebate from Dominion for the work we had done. Nate setup the initial Dominion Energy Audit, and then filed the rebate papers for us when the job was finished. We had recently gutted and remodeled our 100 year old home and had some issues with paint peeling off the siding in a section above a bathroom. Energy Smart identified the problem (our contractor had put insulation along an exterior wall in the attic) and crawled into a VERY tight space to remove it, air seal around a fan and light fixtures in the same space and solve the problem. The crew was attentive and neat. Only complaint is they accidentally left a coke can on the driveway when they left. We can already feel that the house is warmer and has fewer draft issues. An excellent experience.

He is very knowledgeable about insulation, provides a thorough comphrensive insulation proposal, and has made sure his workers are properly trained. Unlike other providers, he emphasizes air sealing (as recommended by our energy auditor), including sealing around recessed can lights. He will also help you with the Dominion East Ohio energy audit/rebate program, make sure you take advantage of the significant benefit there!

+ -1 moreI researched insulation companies on Angieslist and called several--the responses ranged from very abrupt and dismissive to Nate's genuine professionalism, and from the one meeting we had I knew his company would be the one I chose. I told him from the beginning that I do not respond well to "the Hard Sell', having had lots of estimate meetings that were fear based where I felt highly pressured to act now or else. Nate responded by saying he didn't even think he knew "how to do a hard sell". And it was the truth. He was right on time, spent his time looking over the entire house from crawl spaces to the attic, asked that I go along with him and explained everything as he was inspecting the areas of concern. I have had several very rushed inspection with a hurried and garbled explantation of what needs to be done, so Nate's approach was exactly the right approach for me. He listed all the things that could be done, their costs, the rebate I could get from a Dominion program (which he iformed me about even before we met and gave me all the information about it), and answered all my questions and explained the finer points of the job. He never seemed in a hurry or put off by anything. I have an older house --1929--so it has many issues to consider--and he was consistently patient and passionate about my questions and his responses. He knows his work very well. He gave me all the options I had, and allowed me to choose what I wanted done, and never used fear, pressure, or fast talk to make me decide at the moment. He explained everything in a clear, understandble way that in the end I felt I learned a few things and did not feel the "fool" the way others who know more about stuff can sometimes make me feel. The work s completed and I feel that rare feeling of having got great service, a great end result, without stress or anxiety, and that i wasn't taken, but rather entered into a business negotiation wherein both parties, I feel, have benefitted. The way one approaches things is the most important to me, and Nate approached everything from a real, passionate, insightful, caring, interested way that made me at ease from the start. Description of Work: Nate and his crew did a great job on a pretty challenging old house--My Home was built in 1929 and has lots of issues to consider. I had insulation put in the attic taking it from and R-9 to an R-60. They fixed a bathroom exhaust fan and had it vented properly through the attic to the outside, the entire basement was insulated, with all holes and gaps foam insulated, I had an ungainly crawl spaceinsulated and protected from wet, damp, and mold, as well as ventilation put in the eaves to help air flow in the attic. I live alone so missing work to "be home" when the workers arrive is always a problem for me. We worked out how he and his workers would get into the house while I was at work, and I felt completely comfortable with the arrangement and trusted them totally, and to be honest it was a relief not to have to be compromised with that constant hassle I always face when having any work done to my house. But from the first meeting, Nate presented himself as a true professional with a passion for his job and a complete understanding of what people want and expect, and from all our encounters I knew I could trust him. When I returned from work, I found the house in perfect order, no mess, and all the work done, and all the workers gone. I had expected them to still be there, but they got the work done and left. The amazing thing to me was that there was a note that simply said "Please send payment in."--So for me the trust went both ways, and I appreciate that immensely. I of course have sent in the payment gladly and am completely satisfied with the experience of working with this company and Nate from the beginning to the end and will use his company again. After the initial inspection, Nate emailed me a complete list of all the work he could do, with the cost of each clearly marked, and I could choose "menu style" the jobs I wanted done. That made it so clear to me and gave me control of what I wanted and could afford. I never felt pressured of "feared" into doing anything. I do believe I could have checked only one thing --like the exhaust fan-and he would have done it without question, or pressure, or a "lecture". As it is I felt at ease and trust and wanted to get as much done from this company as I could afford, and the end result proves me right. This is the way all companies should operate. It was stress free for me which has not been the case in most of the work I have had to do o the house with companies that are less than accomodating. High Marks to Energy Smart Insulation---SMART indeed on so many levels.

+ -1 moreThese guys are class A from start to finish. Nate is very knowledgeable, and welcomes difficult and challenging questions. We have a house that is nearly one hundred years old-with many "unique" architectural features that require innovative thought. Nate was more than willing to take on these challenges and did so successfully. One area was not completed as we had agreed, and when Nate completed the walk through with me, he apologized and said it would be taken care of-and it was-on the day promised. Finally, a portion of the work turned out to be unnecessary and Nate sent us a check in the mail to compensate us for this amount. Overall a wonderful crew and a high quality job at a fair price
Description of Work: Attic space was insulated. All sources of air leakage were sealed and then cellulose insulation was blown in to a depth to produce R50. Vents were placed in overhangs and the attic floor was also insulated. The crawlspace below the enclosed porch and below the breakfast room addition were opened and insulated. Spaces were left open to the house ambient air.

+ -1 moreThey arrived on time, worked hard all day staying late to complete the job in one day. It was a lot of work to complete in one day that was about 20F and snowing. They accessed the auxiliary roofs and bedroom floor from the outside and the attic from both inside and outside. They cleaned up what was visible oustide. I cleaned up a little after the snow melted (this was not a big deal). Nate likes to share what he knows about insulation and weatherization and takes the time to explain things. I think that is a good sign of a knowledable and reputable contractor. He made me feel like he knew what he was talking about. We used to have very large ice dams and icicles on the main house roof. After the insulation there were only baby sized icicles in comparison. The rear room has a very shallow roof, so there is not much physical space for insulation. But the amount that was added did reduce the size of the icicles from that roof as well. I had waited so long from getting the first estimate (also from company on angies list) because the price was so high ( ~$2000 more for the same services) and I was unsure what to do. Had I found NPlusR sooner I would have done it sooner. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I had this work done when the company name was NPlusR Insulation in December 2010 . I waited until the last minute to get a second estimate (Nate's) and he was able to get us in before the new year to get the tax credit. The work performed included: adding additional blown in cellulose insulation over the batts we already had in the attic; air sealing the attic top plates (all 4 walls); air sealing (by removing all floorboards to find) all penetrations to stop airflow; installing a 12'x12' storage area in attic above the blown in insualtion with walkway to opposite side window; insulating auxialiary attic areas including the front porch, dining room "bump out" and rear room; dense pack insulate bedroom floor that extends over front porch; air seal basement and install batts in band joists; vent bath fan through roof with hard pipe and insulate; and insulate/fix the attic entry hatch door (didn't seal). He used a blower door to confirm air sealing was effective. The cantilevered dining room floor was supposed to be part of the work scope. Somehow I missed ensuring it was on the quote during the quote review process but he added it gratis.

+ -1 moreNate Adams came to my house to give me an estimate. He was on time, professional and courteous. Since I am a new home owner, he took the time to answer all my questions. His crew was on time and ready to work! The crew manager actually took pictures in the attic of a couple of issues hidden under the insulation which we discussed. The bathrooms were cold due to no insulation where it should have been. The back bedroom was cold because there were holes drilled in the wood allowing the cold air in. Both of these issues were fixed. Also, the duct work for the two bathrooms was not up to code, and that was also fixed. Nate's follow-thru was impeccable. When the job was completed, he not only sent me all the completed rebate forms to sign, but also the needed information for my taxes. Top-notch customer service!
Description of Work: I had the attic insulated, out side roof vents replaced and bathroom duct work brought up to code.

+ -1 moreWe called this company 2 times and they never called us to give an estimate after several weeks. I do realize that this is the busy season. Also it is a 45 minute drive from Mantua to Cleveland and perhaps this is why we never got a call. Energy Smart Insulation got an excellent rating with Angie's list so we decided to give them a call. We hired another company to do the work. The insulation will cost about 4 or 5 thousand dollars so it is a big job. I just want people to know that this company may be a great company but it is not responsive.
Description of Work: We called Engergy Smart Insulation for an estimate to insulate our new garage.

Description of Work: Energy Smart people added insulation to my attic and second floor walls. Additionally they vented bathroom exhaust fans to the outside, insulated the chimney, capped recessed ceiling lights to prevent heat from reaching the attic space, and made improvements in several other areas.
