No written estimate from the beginning (only verbal), my mistake. Final cost was about 2x what was said to us "may" cost. However, the final cost was still within high market value. (IMO). My lesson, NEVER NEVER again will I have home repairs done without a written estimate. Besides the obvious price establishment, it also tells me something about the professionalism (or lack of) of the business. The project(s) should have taken 7-10 days at most, but this got drug out over two months. He would come for an hour then leave, then show up 3-4 days later, work another hour or two, then leave. Very hard to get on the phone or return calls. We had to adjust our schedule to be at home when we THOUGHT he was going to work, but days and days went by and we didn't see or hear from him. He charged us "time on the job" for shopping for his materials. (Is this normal??) Our house was torn up for the repair, and we were "stuck" with his whim schedule. In the end, our dining room was torn up for at least 10 days (or more) while he was completely AWOL. Then he finally showed up and threw together the cabinet in about 45 minutes, then disappeared. He just left, we haven't seen him or heard from him since. The cabinet was installed very poorly, chips in the wood. There were two interior lights that were not installed. In short, the work was not completed, and what he DID do was very shabby. (see attached photos) Did we call him back? No, we were glad to be done with him. I will get someone else more reputable to come over and repair his work.
