BERGER TRANSFER & STORAGE- Allied Van Lines

Since I had already moved to Georgia for my job, I had my cousin be the contact at my house in ohio. She called through out the day with updates and questions. Overall the loading of the truck went smoothly. One incident, was that a towel hamper was broken and had to be thrown away. Only worth $40 but no incident report was made of it. They took apart a U shaped desk that was to be reassembled in georgia. They pointed out that due to some dampness one side of the desk was damaged. So we agreed they would bring it anyways and put the rest of the desk together. They called with a date that my things would be delivered to the new house. they arrived on time. They were very nice and professional as they unloaded. My new house was not damaged at all as they brought stuff in. My mistake however was not checking each item as it came in the house. They did tell me that it was my choice but that things would a lot faster if I didn't check them off. BIG MISTAKE on my part. The section of my desk that held the shelfs (this is part of the desk that hadn't been damaged) was so warped on the top that I now can't close the doors unless I force them. It is almost like they had something heavy on top of it because it bowed. There is also two big scrapes which I assume happened when they took it apart. The rest of the table didn't get put back together but I was still charge for the full price of putting it back together. I had packed everything in totes with bubble wrap. Half of the totes had been cracked.and damaged beyond repair. It takes an awful lot to crack the heavy plastic. Plus quite a few of the blue handles that snaps the lid on were no where to be found. I had a sauder printer stand that was in good condition when it left my house. It is now damaged beyond repair. they covered it with a shelf to cover up the fact that it was broken. They also took apart my laundry sorter and did not put it back together again. They left it in my garage corner and put the screws on the floor. Half of the screws are missing so I can't put it back together again. Also the handle to my jewelry armoire came off but luckily they stuck it in the drawer so that I can re-attach it. The refridgerator freezer handle was also bent during the move. it is not repairable. So if I had insisted on checking things off one by one I would have caught these things and filed a claim, so that is on me. The fact that all these things happened is on the movers. 5 other peoples things were in the truck with mine. I'm sure most of this stuff was damaged because the truck was over packed and crammed in too tight to get as many moves in as possible. So if you are moving out of state I would suggest this. Ask how many will be in the truck with yours. Even if it adds a couple of house onto the unload, check off everything on the inventory list, including looking into the contents of your box to make sure it is there. You cannot make a claim to damage that you notice after they leave. I did not know this. I thought I had a certain number of days to file a claim. (i bought the 100% insurance) So please learn from my mistake and take the time to inspect your stuff. You'll be glad you did. Overall I would have to say I would not recommend this company. Even though they are respectful of your old house and new house, it is the transport of the stuff and the way it is packed in the truck that I have issues with and would warn people away from using them.

Company very responsive, stayed on top of schedule, good communication with us. Arrived on time as scheduled, packed/moved everything into truck. Returned everything from storage facility on schedule. Nice people. One problem: The wardrobe boxes had strong, unpleasant smell when returned -- like cardboard had been damp for awhile, or placed on damp floor. Smell dissipated within a few days once clothes hung up and boxes disposed of. Bigger problem: Whoever packed the clothes put them into the wardrobe boxes without first taking them out of garment bags. Upon their return, when we opened boxes, the clothes still in garment bags had fallen to the bottom of the boxes in a heap. Were of course wrinkled, crumpled.
