Someone unable to show up without making call etc. conveys work ethic and respect to potential customer. Glad I saw true colors before possibly writing a check...Thanks!

He insisted he had to make his independent inspection, scurrying around inside and out, pulling out washer and dryer from wall, plus other heavy sundry items, leaving them out to be returned to their original location by the 80 year old disabled home owner. Finally, after setting his computer up, etc., came his presentation. The basement needed a drainage pipe imbedded in the concrete floor around its periphery and also a sump pump. That’s not all: these small cracks were supposedly serious indicators of structural problems requiring the need of four piers installed under the foundation footers. These evaluations were all counter to the Engineer’s and home inspector’s reports. Price: an afternoon of wasted time and an estimate of $15775 versus $1260 from another contractor.
Description of Work: We sold our house contingent upon repairing basement cracks with evident visible leakage. This repair was recommended by the buyer’s home inspector. Two years prior, a registered professional construction engineer likewise recommended that these cracks be repaired. We called Basement Doctor to repair them. He arrived 1.5 hours late.

We were really impressed by and grateful for how comprehensive the inspection was and how helpful his explanations were. He took multiple pictures and generated an elevation diagram. He did a great job explaining why the current sump pump was insufficient and what improvements should be made. He also walked around the exterior of the house to inspect it for any signs of foundation issues, and he spotted a tiny crack in the brick that was hard to see--that's how thorough he was! He explained what we should be concerned about and what was due to normal aging. When he finished his inspection, he set up a mobile office with a laptop and printer on the kitchen counter. He was able to complete the report on the spot and provided the hard copy of his report before he left. He was punctual, thorough, polite, and trustworthy. We feel confident moving forward with the home purchase, and we would definitely hire him and The Basement Doctor to perform any of the suggested upgrades.

Thanks for the basement flood on Christmas Eve jerks. A backup sump which says everything is fine and charging when not plugged in. I didn't trust them from the moment they they installed. The salesman and installer were smarmy. Bad experience, flooded basement. Just stay away. They are a sales company and want their commission more than giving a quality product. Did I mention the backup is only a year old? Yeah.

Everything went well. I was very pleased with them.
Description of Work: They did some basement work. They Re-enforced the basement wall and installed a sump pump.
First, I'll say that past experience with this company was positive. But not this time. About 15 years ago, this company, then J&D Basement systems, had braced one basement wall with carbon fiber strips, which oddly enough have done a great job, in preventing further movement. I was happy with that work. So I selected them for a sump pump installation. They had given me their book describing their methods / techniques for sump pumps / interior basement trenching / discharge lines, and they sounded logical... on paper. IE, the trenching along the walls is situated such that it leaves a very small space open against the wall, in case there is further seepage. So any wall seepage would just go down the wall, into the trench drain pipes, then to the sump. And they put an open type cap on the discharge pipe just outside the house, in case the rest of the outside discharge pipe freezes. That all sounded well and good... until I've now had it installed, and now I see the pitfalls in their whole system. They say they are the only ones doing these unique / ?better? things. I now see the reasons that other companies are not doing it their way. It's not a good methodology, at least not for my installation. And there were mistakes made in both the drawing of the job, and in the installation, all of which have me wishing I had not selected The Basement Doctor for this project. The one big thing is that my house is a 1-story house, with basement, and the whole setup in the basement is beneath / too close to my (main floor) bedroom. Initially, the plan had been to install the sump pump on the other side of the house, away from the bedrooms. But my rep, Roger, decided that they would have too many problems with installing he discharge pipe on that other side of the house. He talked me into moving the discharge pipe to the bedroom-side of the house. He couldn't tell me how much noise might be generated from it, so I asked for the sump pump to be not directly beneath the bedroom. However, the discharge pipe still had to be run beneath the bedroom, and it is supported from J-hooks that are nailed to the floor joists. The pump itself is ironically very quiet, when you're standing right next to it, but it vibrates the dang discharge pipe (which someone else told me it should not be doing), which vibrates the J-hooks and the floor joists that the pipe is suspended from. It sounds like a low fog horn, in my bedroom. And the water in the pipe, right as it exits the house, sounds like a toilet flush, thanks to that open-type cap on the exit pipe ? and that part of it ended up, mistakenly, directly beneath my bed / bedroom window. The whole thing wakes me up at night when it runs. And during extreme rain/ wetness, that is every 20 freaking minutes. Yep, the sump pump works just fine, and it ?looks good? in appearance, in the basement, but now I'm stuck with the annoying noise while I sleep. And they now tell me there's nothing they can do about it. Wish I had stuck to my guns and insisted it all be on the other side of the house. I'll take bets on how long before the exterior discharge pipe cracks and fails. As for the installers, when they showed up (slightly late), they told me they had the ?wrong truck? that didn't contain the parts they needed for my job. (seriously?) So, in the middle of the job, the foreman left, and went to get the parts that were needed. In the meantime, the discharge pipe hole through the foundation got drilled in the wrong place, 4 feet in the wrong direction, which ended up beneath my bed/bedroom window. And the trench in the side yard was terminated in the wrong place, wrong method, because they didn't want to deal with a junk bush that was in the way, neither of which the installers had bothered to ask me about. Those mistakes likely emanated partly with an incorrect drawing that Roger, the rep, apparently hadn't gotten fixed, after I had him move the sump away from the bedroom. I unfortunately didn't verify the drawing before they started working on it, and the installers didn't bother to ask me about it. I wasn't sitting in the basement watching them. I figured they didn't need to be baby-sat, and I needed to get my work done. I peeked in occasionally at the progress. When I noticed the discharge pipe hole in the foundation in the wrong place, I unfortunately didn't say anything, not knowing if it was really an issue, at that point. Now I know it is an issue, because I now hear the water exiting the house, as it is directly beneath my bed/bedroom window. But I did bring the incorrect placement of the yard trench & pipe to the foreman's attention, and he agreed it was done incorrectly, but that it could be fixed later, if it turned into an issue (which it did). Additionally, it turns out that my foundation walls are not straight, but their system doesn't allow for that variation. And that was neither mentioned nor evaluated, prior to installation. So now, in some places, where the floor meets the wall, there is a 1 to 2 inch gap, open to the air beneath the foundation. I now get moist air coming up into the basement from beneath the house, especially since my furnace sucks in air from the basement, and not from outside, which I had addressed with Roger as a concern, before the installation. So now I have to run a dehumidifier in the basement. I opted to just buy one from the local home improvement store, rather than opt for the very expensive one the Basement Doctor will sell you. I had initially asked Roger about that situation, and about it allowing free passage of radon into the basement. He said they don't deal with radon mitigation, and rather brushed it off, and left it up to me to think about / research. I did wonder why a ?basement doctor? doesn't evaluate radon mitigation. So now I'm stuck with that whole potentially negative situation. I addressed my concerns with Roger, after the installation, and he came out and took photos of those issues. He said he'd talk to the people in the office to see how things could be fixed. I didn't hear from him for a month, so I finally contacted him. He said : ?tell me again what was wrong?. Did he just delete the photos after he took them? So they sent this young guy to my house to address the issues. It was quite apparent that this guy had no clue about house repair or maintenance. He messed up something (minor) that I had to fix. He seemed to know only how they told him to install the system. Nearly every word out of his mouth was ?There's nothing we can do about that.? I was the one trying to give him ideas. He made a miniscule effort to resolve the issues. And he didn't even bring the tools to move the discharge pipe hole in the foundation. So that didn't get done. And he also didn't even get the yard trench / exterior discharge pipe fixed very well. It's now at the surface of the ground, where all the deer walk on it. At that point, I just wanted the ?repair? guy off my property. I have since had other people try to help remedy some of the issues, especially to try to get it to a point where it doesn't wake me up at night. How can I sell this house with that issue? I am not a happy customer. I gave them a D, overall, instead of an F, because the sump pump does at least work. This company has become sloppy and totally focused on just making a sale, whether or not it is appropriate for the customer. I won't be using them for the rest of the foundation work that still needs to be done. I don't recommend them, at least not with their current employees and practices. Think twice before engaging them !
Description of Work: They trenched along the interior of 2 basement walls, installed drain piping along the footer of both walls that leads to a sump pump, installed a sump pump, concreted in the trenches, over the pipes. They dug a trench and ran the discharge pipe in the side yard.

I reviewed this company back when our water proofing was still relatively new. We paid almost $12,000 for their water proofing system, two sump pumps, a (supposedly) top notch, quality dehumidifier and the labor to install it all. It's now been 5 years. The dehumidifier seemed to not be running at the percentage of humidity level that it had been set at. I cleaned the filter, and everything. Finally, I called to have the ones who installed it come and figure out what was wrong. $100 just to show up. Hey, that's fine. I just wanted this 5 year old dehumidifier that I paid $1500 for to work like it's supposed to. Technician was very nice, and punctual. He was apologetic when he told me, basically, that it would cost as much to services as it would be to replace. I realize this is not his fault, but I did express that I found it ridiculous that I paid that much money for junk. They're supposed to be top quality; this is why we went with their bid, altho it was the highest. Then to shrug "so sorry". And of course, the warranty is just up last month. The piping that is supposed to whisk water away from our house has come loose as well. The sump pumps seem to be working as they should, but I recoil at the thought of how much longer they may have given that the dehumidifier has kicked the bucket and fixing it equals the cost of replacement. I remember moving into old, old houses with sump pumps and dehumidifiers a good 25+ years old and still going strong. We will see, I suppose. As for now, I will do what I should have done; invest in a dehumidifier from Home Depot for the cost of my service appointment, and have it drain into my sump pump. Even if I have to replace it every year (which I doubt), I'd still get 15 years for the cost of this piece of junk the Basement Doctor sold me. Advice: do not buy the dehumidifier.
Description of Work: Charged me $100 to come out and tell me that the dehumidifier that is supposed to be top notch now has to be replaced ($1500) or serviced ($1200) after only 5 years.

We tried repeatedly to contact the sales rep but he never responded to our emails or calls. Needless to say we did not use the Basement Doctors for our backup sump pump. We did however use Korrect Plumbing who responded to our inquiries and were very prompt in responding when we finally decided to have them do the job. Price was comparable to other quotes and we have used them for other issues with plumbing. They are always courteous but not always on time. The job was completed in a timely manner and we are very satisfied with their work. We hope we never need the backup system but we are now we do if we get another heavy rainfall like we had last year.

We live in Louisville Kentucky. We did not discuss our problem with the company from Cincinnati since they are not an aria. We did call hey Mr. cotton in Louisville who is in the same ZIP Code as we are in. He was reluctant to come to our address because he felt it was too far. But he did offered to come to our home reluctantly. But he would not come for the "even an Angie's list or our plumbing problem. Therefore we contacted Lenhart's plumbing which is a much greater distance from my home and they performed the necessary plumbing had a much llower cost and want to have a harsh. I even gave us a senior discount . They were very courteous and careful to clean up any debris. We recommend them highly.

I had the sump pump replaced by Basement Doctors Cincinnati during July 2013 with 3 years parts and labor warranty. Late Sunday evening (April 2015), when it was raining, found that the sump pump was not working. Called the local Cincinnati number and spoke with Matt. After couple of troubleshooting steps over the phone, he said he'll come over and replace the sump pump. In about 20 minutes, Matt came over and replaced the sump pump with no extract charge. Matt did not have a 1/2 HP sump pump on the truck, so temporarily put in a 1/3 HP and said he will follow-up and get it replaced with a 1/2 HP pump early this week. Excellent service!

They arrived on the appointed day & time. Since the crawl space access is in the basement, the two person crew covered the flooring leading to the basement; this prevented damage to the floors. The entire crawl was covered with a heavy (20 mil I believe) reinforced plastic sheet and all seams were sealed. The crawl space walls were also covered, but several inches at the top of the walls were not covered so the yearly termite inspection can be done properly. Three piers supporting the floor above were also covered in the same plastic sheet. The installation only needed 2 to 3 hours and afterwards they removed all their tools and equipment. The crew was competent, pleasant and polite.
