J.R. Thomas Landscaping Inc

We have been using JR Thomas for a very long time, involving two residences. On a continuing basis, they provide our Spring and Fall Refurbishing of our landscaping. Again, this past Spring they did their customary excellent work and every inch of our property looks fabulous. It is noteworthy to mention that they have, in the past, built beautiful walls that continue to bring compliments year after year. You can expect quality every step of the way.

After using a variety of different landscape vendors over the years, I explored J.R. Thomas's website and gave them a try. I will never use another landscape company. From the first engagement I knew they were a great fit for us. Not only do I expect high quality work from our contractors but I expect them to do what they say they will on the agreed upon timeline. J.R. is fantastic to work with and desgins great landscapes and hardscapes. His team is excellent also. The men on his crews are kind, trustworthy, and hard working. They show up on time on the day they are expected. My yards looks awesome and I couldn't be more happy with J.R. Thomas Landscaping. I highly recommend their work.

They are very professional workers. They are all very polite and well-mannered. The yard and garden look good now!

My back yard is extremely steep and I have struggled to get landscaping to fit that kind of terrain. J.R. designed and installed a walkway with extra rocks to keep it from washing out and made nice planting beds along it. His trimming of bushes and mulching were stellar and the river rock trim around the sidewalk/driveway was far better than I had gotten in the past. He put in extra effort to cut up and clear 20 foot branches that had broken off a tree during a storm as well as other numerous smaller branches.My patio is on the edge of the steep drop-off and had sunken on one edge. J.R. got this fixed and it looks good as new. I thought his prices were really reasonable. I had gotten my numerous beds mulched 2 years ago from another contractor and J.R.'s price was about the same for that portion but he delivered so much more clean-up and better quality that I will definitely be coming back to him in the future!

JR Thomas is my go to landscaper. Used them the first time in 2010 to hide my neighbor's pool. Using upscale landscaping and a seat wall around our pool, it turned out better than I envisioned. They were prompt, courteous and coordinated the work done with my sprinkler system company, so all went smoothly. Couple of years later, I have had no problems and I cannot see my neighbor with his shirt off!! Big Plus! Since that was so successful, I started to use them for my landscape maintenance. Spring clean up with mulching and Fall Clean up with trimming. Again, professional and I don't have to think twice about what is being done...they are experts! Recently had them back in to replace a line of overgrown bushes/trees on the opposite side of the yard. Again, a beautiful improvement! JR's recommendations are right on, he really knows his stuff. He never tries to over sell you, can give you pro's and cons concerning anything you are considering doing, and once again the work is amazing. In the world of landscaping, I believe his pricing is fair. I have had cheaper and it is all being slowly replaced by JR...so my advice is to start with the best and your yard will evolve into the oasis it is meant to be!

J. R. thoroughly explained the process of removing the old sidewalk, and installing the new paver sidewalk and patio. It took about a week from start to finish. The installers, Ben and William were very pleasant and professional. They also worked very hard. They removed the concrete sidewalk, dug out the sidewalk and patio area, then packed in layers of gravel and sand, taking measurements to make sure everything was level and had the proper slope for drainage. They did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the finished project, and several of our neighbors have commented on how beautiful it looks. J. R.'s bid was not the lowest, and that's why he received a B in that department, but it's hard for me to believe that anyone else could have done as well, and we feel our money was well-spent.

He is terrific. He is very professional. He does wonderful work. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

We have used JR Thomas for many projects, including installing all new landscaping, walkways and a patio, along with tile for our porches. We have always been totally impressed with the professionalism and quality of work. They are not the least expensive of landscaping companies, but the work done is well worth the price. From the planning stage to the completion, everything has always been done with excellent advise, quick response and to perfection. The maintenance and window boxes in this project has made our yard and house look beautiful. I highly recommend this company. They have truly transformed our property.

They were responsive. They answered our questions pretty carefully. They spent a lot of time with us giving us advice on what they felt would work best most of which we took. They showed up when they said they were going to show up. Overall, they did a very good job. In fact, we lost a tree and they came out and replaced it at no additional cost to us.

They do great work. I am very happy them and I have no complaints.

Overall, excellent. JR Is a pure delight to work with, as is everyone on his staff. Amazingly enough, I called two other companies for estimates and 1 never got back with me, the other came out to talk with me and I never heard from them again. For me, this was a huge project and JR never made me feel like I was any less than his most important customer. He sat down with me and really listened to what I was saying, and even what I wasn't saying but what I meant. Within a week after our initial meeting he had a rough plan for me to look at, as well as an initial estimate. My big thing with him was that I didn't want to deal with separate people, I was hiring him, and whomever he brought in was his responsibility and he was just fine with that. When I had problems with the group who did the fence, he was on it right away and called me every day to let me know how things were going to be taken care of, and then to make sure I was happy with the end result. When I had questions about the way the beds were put together with the way the fence ended up coming out, the guys who were there listened to what I said and agreed with me, and changed things right then and there. I cannot tell you how good that made me feel. Lucky for me I was referred to JR through a friend at work, but am happy to pass along the highest praise for anyone with Angie's List to give him a shot. You will not be disappointed. I always say you get what you pay for, and although I might have been able to shop around for a lower price, I don't think I could have gotten a higher quality of work for the money. The day they left, it looked like everything had been in place for years - there was no leftover debris. I couldn't even tell the tree had just been planted because there was not a scrap of dirt anywhere in the area. My back yard now looks like the yards I've seen at Homearama. The guys also trimmed out the beds all around the fence on the outside, which I did not expect and they look fabulous with the fresh mulch. Great Job to JR and the entire Crew! And, if I didn't say it before....thank you. Now this area looks like an extension of my living area, instead of the eyesore it was.

Their manager checks with us before the crew arrives. Crew knows exactly what to do, and goes about their work quietly & efficiently.

I think JR Thomas are the best in the city at what they do. They came out for the initial consultation, they had people with instruments measuring the topography in the backyard. The plans they drew up were in detail, and they had every detail covered. JR is a pleasure as is everyone on his team. Beverley who typically answers the phone when you call is an absolute pleasure as well. They came out and did the work as planned, and it looks fantastic. As for the patio, its one of the best decisions our family has made. It has made a dramatic difference in our backyard space, it's very open, and the family uses it all the time. They came back and did the landscaping this past June. It's been an extremely hot summer in Cincinnati, so not the best time to do the landscaping, I've had to water a lot to keep everything alive, but it looks beautiful. We did have one slight issue with our patio this year as well, so approx 9 mos after it was put in, the ground was moving or something unusual was happening. They had not seen this before in all their time putting patio's in, but to their credit they came out and fixed the issue, resealed the patio, and completely backed their work. This additional work was at no additional cost. They are a first class organization and I would be happy to recommend them to anyone.

This job was just one of many successful projects completed for us by JR Thomas. The quality of their works speaks for itself. Our home looks fabulous because of the work done outdoors. If you want the best possible outcome for your project, there is just one number to call.

JR Thomas Landscaping was the best company they had ever hired. They were incredibly passionate and their attention to detail was exemplary. Their workmanship was beyond comparison and every single employee was accommodating. They were very happy with the result.

He was an extremely professional man. However, they charged for their estimate, and we ended up writing a check for it. It was not a free estimate and was very elaborate, probably 10 times what we wanted to pay. He wanted to charge $50,000 for the project, and the company we ended up using charged us less than $4,000. His idea was beyond over the top, just not appropriate for our situation.

They did a beautiful job. It looks sophisticated and elegant. I would highly recommend them.

Their customer service is excellent. They are customer oriented and very responsive. The listened to what I wanted and worked with me on a time line. The project was divided into three parts because of the cost, so that I could manage it financially. I like the owner Mr. J R because he came out and checked the trees that they had planted.

They did a fine job initially, but communication was almost impossible. I asked them to check on things on an ongoing basis and they were very nonresponsive. I felt things were not explained well. I wanted them to change landscaping around my deck because I had some creeping myrtle put in last year that was not doing well. They acted like I never communicated. He did call and apologize, but I don't like working with people like that. They did a nice job on the front, but they didn't make an appointment for additional work that I wanted done. The work they did was outrageously expensive. I had to pay a deposit upfront of $600. I have a small yard. They sent me a contract to sign but it was not explained. They did mulch and other things, but the area is not that huge. I got a quote from another company for next week that is lower and much more professional. Their follow through is terrible.

The suggestions were wonderful. There seem to be slow responses. I had trouble getting straight answers from the office.

They continue to do a fantastic job! They showed up when they said they would. A crew was on-site at our residence all day (half-acre lot), meticulously performing their work. It is amazing the transformation the yard makes before and after. They asked me at the end of the day how it looked, and if there was anything else they could do. I was impressed with the professionalism, the punctuality, and the quality of the work. While they are not cheap, you definitely get a premium level of work and service. They are true professionals and they exhibit outstanding customer service skills, too. I will continue to use them for my landscape needs.

Called company to set up a meeting to discuss a possible project and they told me they charge $65 for someone to come out and discuss a project. I don't deal with companies that charge for an opportunity to pitch on new business. Non-starter.

I had a quote for $500 from another landscaper. Both J R Thomas & the other contractor agreed to also fill in a depression in the lawn over a sewer line not related to the excavation. The other contractor also agreed to replant some flowers damaged by the excavation. J R Thomas was not asked to replant flowers. The other contractor did not have an Angie's List listing, so I went with J R Thomas who has a good reputation, even though J R Thomas' quote was $250 more for a smaller project. J R Thomas leveled & compacted the ground over the trench, placed topsoil & seeded. He did not repair minor damage to either side of the excavation as the other contractor had said he would do. Thomas also failed to fill in the depression in the lawn over the sewer line. It is too late in the season now, so J R Thomas has agreed to come back in the spring & complete the work that was left undone. The ratings above assume that they will do the agreed work in a satisfactory manner.

I contact JR Thomas in the spring, and he came out and walked around the yard with me, and I told him the things I wanted done. He gave me some great suggestions, and before he left he said he'd have someone from his company come out and do some drawings and that he would work on a quote. I didn't hear from anyone for a few weeks, and then I received a voice message from JR stating that the crew member who was to come to my house had been ill, but that they would be back on schedule in a couple of weeks. No one ever followed up, and to date I have not heard from anyone at JR Thomas.
