We are a Museum in Springboro, Ohio. Our Building dates to 1810. We had several estimates for this work. Chris was the only contact person to personally inspect all area of the attic. Pricing was fair and considered our non profit status. Crew was effiecient, professional and courteous. Went above and beyond to make sure all areas of the old building were covered. I’m incredibly thankful to Chris Shepard and DES for drastically improving my living situation. My home is drastically more comfortable, my energy bills are lower, and the value of my home has increased in a way that’s more durable than a new appliance or a few new windows. As a relatively new homeowner, I also feel that I have a much better understanding of how conditioned air moves throughout my house and what to look for when examining the insulation/ductwork/etc in a future home. If you shop around like I did, you will find some lower quotes and different materials. But in my opinion, this is the only way to go if you want results, and if you want to work with a professional company that can guarantee quality service. My house is a 1940s Cape Cod, with a 2nd story that was unlivable in the summer/winter. With only one supply vent, no air return, and (more importantly) old useless fiberglass from its original construction, the temperature mimicked outdoor temps and allowed conditioned air from the lower level to escape as well. My energy bills were incredibly high, and the usable sq footage of the home was limited to the 1st floor. After I requested a quote, Chris walked me through the entire house, listened to my concerns, verified why I was having the problems, and explained every potential solution in detail. Within 24 hrs I had received a similarly detailed proposal outlining the work needed and the associated costs. Had I not moved forward with the proposal, I still probably would have come out ahead, as I basically got a free lesson on thermal envelopes and how air moves throughout a home. Luckily I did move forward, and they were able to schedule the service within only a few weeks (and right before winter hit). When Chris and the team showed up, they were friendly, professional, and they covered furniture where necessary to prevent a mess. All of the old fiberglass was replaced with spray foam behind the kneewalls/under the roof, and cellulose was dense-packed in the vaults/attic space where access prevented spray foam from being practical. They redirected the existing supply duct to create a 2nd vent, and added an air return to allow better temperature consistency/airflow in the summer months. They also added spray foam around the entire rim joist in the basement, and applied blown-in cellulose in the attic space above a back addition on the 1st story. Before and during the process, they took time to explain their progress and ask questions about my preferences (for example, how invasive to be when they needed to drill into drywall/wood paneling). When they were finished, they took the time to vacuum/mop all parts of the house they’d accessed. After a month or so, I contacted Chris again because the 2nd story was still a few degrees colder than what I’d expected. When he came out the 2nd time, he found and fixed the issue (an air leak behind my thermostat, which made the furnace turn off too quickly), which brought my satisfaction with the work from 90% to 100%.

From start to finish, every part of the process went smoothly. I had no idea how inefficient my home insulation was until Dr. Energy Saver completed their work (the second floor was especially problematic). Hours after they completed their work, there was a noticeable difference inside my home. When my AC was out, the repair company commented on how cool the temperature was inside the house…even when it was over 95° outside with what felt like 1000% humidity. My wife and I have had issues for years with a "drip" noise in our ductwork that would keep us both up at night. After having several HVAC professionals & plumbers out to take a look to no avail, Chris was able to trace the problem to a lack of insulation that allowed cold air to penetrate the house. He was able to seal up the problem areas and immediately the duct area and vent heated back up to normal levels and the popping sound decreased dramatically! I can't recommend Chris enough. We called Chris with DES out to help us with what a home inspector told us was mold and unvented bathroom fans. He was able to come out that same day to inspect the attic. We were prepared to pay whatever it took to resolve the issues and Chris knew that. However, he confirmed the fans were connected, he crawled back to where nobody has ever been before and inspected the area and said there was no mold. We tried to offer him money for his time, but he refused. Fantastic Value and Amazing Attention to Detail! DES recently performed extensive work at my home, and I couldn’t be more satisfied. I selected them after receiving quotes from 9 other providers. They were not the least expensive, but they were certainly the best value. Chris did a tremendously thorough survey of the house before crafting a quote. Prior to his arrival, I prepared a somewhat esoteric list of details that I wanted to be addressed during the work. While Chris was looking over the property, he proposed a solution to each of the issues on my list before I even had a chance to mention them to him. His building science knowledge was superior to any of the other contractors, so it was an easy decision to select DES. The work was scheduled promptly, and Harrison’s crew did a great job. They were a well-oiled machine, and the amount of work they accomplished in one day was nothing short of astounding. They put down plastic, swept, vacuumed, and wet-mopped when they were done. The very first night after the work was completed, the temperature differential between the first and second floor was substantially eliminated. The hot spots and cold spots were gone, and the overall comfort of the house was unmistakably improved. I can’t wait to watch the long-term energy savings in the years to come. If anything has been bothering you about the energy efficiency of your house, do not hesitate to hire DES to take care of you!

I had alot of crushed ducts and no insulation in my attic. I called alot of companies to first fix the ductwork. When I called Dr. Energy saver, they came out and quoted repairing the ducts then adding foam spray. That was initially not even my intention but after hearing all the advantages of the sealing and the reasonable costs for getting the job done right, sold me. The installers were very professional and polite, and answered every question I had. I would def recommend! I am so happy now that I am only heating my house and not the attic too. They even went above and beyond and sent in energy rebate for me, thank you.

I requested an evaluation and estimate from Dr. Energy Saver Cincinnati because I saw they had such great reviews online. I wasn't disappointed. Andy spent a considerable amount of time at our home to determine the best (combination) approach to solving our problems, and even had Chris return to the house with him to verify their recommendation, as our home presented some unique challenges. I was very impressed by their approach, as they didn't simply recommend a "one-size-fits-all" solution. I was just as impressed with the installation crew and their attention to detail. Our home is more comfortable thanks to all the improvements made by the DES team.

I built a 2 story addition on my home and I wanted the best insulation, so I got quotes from 4 companies for close cell foam insulation. I chose DES because the estimator was professional and their quote was the best. They did an excellent job with the installation and cleanup.

My wife and I were so happy with Dr. Energy Services from our first insulation project that we had them back for another project! Chris and Harrison were extremely professional, polite, and knowledgeable about the entire process. We knew exactly what was happening as well as why from the beginning to the end of the project. I had contacted 10 insulation companies, 5 responded, and only two were willing to take on a Cape Cod. Prior to looking into adding insulation I was unaware of how much more in difficult a Cape cod is to insulate effectively compared to most homes. Chris Shepard, the owner of Dr. Energy Saver, came out and spent almost two hours evaluating my home, went into every space that would be worked in and explained the processes and materials that would be used. The other contractor spent less than 30 minutes in my home and did not offer any guarantee beyond an improved blower door test number. Dr. Energy Saver's contract has a satisfaction guarantee and that the remedies will pay for themselves in energy savings in 8-10 years or they will refund the difference Before having any work done, I had old roll batts of insulation in the attic and a radiant barrier on the underside of the roof deck. My furnace ran 10-12 hours per day with my thermostat set at 68 and I would have rooms in the house that would struggle to stay above 60. The upstairs area was almost unusable due to high temperatures in the summer and cold in the winter. When the vectren tester came out with a blower prior to the insulation work, the result was 3644 CFM and during the test all of my pilot lights were blown out. The solution Chris recommended was a combination of spray foam in the attic and rim joist. The vault ceilings were packed with cellulose Dr. Energy Saver also was able to add a return to the upstairs room and add an exhaust fan to the bathroom. Spray foam was also added to the coal room under my front porch as a vapor barrier to help with humidity in the basement. The install crew was professional and the foreman Harrison realized on the first day that the job would likely take longer than originally planned and brought it to my attention immediately. Everyone on the install crew was willing to answer questions regarding process and progress. Every night when they reached a stopping point they cleaned up all of the work areas and on the last day spent almost an hour on cleanup. They left my upstairs cleaner than when they started. I work from home and there was minimal disturbance while the work was being completed. Since the completion of the work, my furnace has run an average of 5-6 hours per day (about half previous) and the temperature in my house is consistent in every room. The final blower door test was 1620 CFM, a reduction of 2024 CFM or 55.5% I haven't had a full bill cycle with vectren since the work was done but I expect to see a significant drop in usage. I would recommend Dr. Energy saver to anyone looking to add insulation and make their home more comfortable, especially for a cape cod.

All I can say is WOW! What a difference! We moved in about a year ago and the AC or heat never seemed to stop running. On the hottest and coldest days it would literally run 20+ hours a day and never catch up according the usage stats on our Nest thermostat. We even had space heaters in the bedroom and basement. The two weeks before DES came our AC ran about 14 hours a day, the week after install it dropped to 9 and the week after that, to 5hours per day! Not only that but it just feels so much more comfortable all the time. We got a few quotes from different insulation companies and there is a BIG difference in what is explained and offered. One company just wanted to blow some insulation into the attic but that didn’t seem like enough. Another would do the air seal and remove our old installation for a bit less than Dr. Energy Saver but the difference is in the details. Their contract said I might have to rent a dumpster and arrange disposal myself depending on what they found, which isn’t cheap. I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t tell me up front since they had already done the inspection and given an estimate, shady. Enter DES they were very professional from the first phone call to schedule an estimate through the entire process. Chris was very thorough in his inspection and explanation. I had a detailed estimate that we went over before he left the house. When I explained I couldn’t afford everything all at once, he helped break the job up into affordable pieces. Every day when we arrived home from work after DES had been in the house, I couldn’t tell by looking. They were meticulous in their install and clean up. The last thing I want to mention isn’t AC or heat related but bugs. Our rim joist was so riddled with holes; we were seeing bugs almost daily and even a mouse once! The glass block windows in the basement were covered in spider webs. Not anymore! This house is so air tight we have not seen a single bug since install and I have to remove maybe one small web every month from the basement windows! Huge difference!

I cannot say enough about Dr. Energy Saver. From our first contact, they were professional and responsive, even calling from vacation. Ours was a complicated situation, with a need for damage repair from an animal in the attic, in a rental house, in a remote location. Chris and Hunter were great to work with, reassured me about my concerns, provided updates and photos, and overall were extremely pleasant to work with. I would recommend them without reservation.

I just wanted everyone to know what a wonderful experience I had with Dr. Energy Saver. I live in a Cape Cod house built in 1930. It had absolutely no insulation anywhere and in the winter I really suffered. Chris from DES pointed out to me that by bringing the knee walls into conditioned space I could see a dramatic difference in the house and still leave the walls empty. It seemed to good to be true but he was right and the difference is amazing ! I no longer have to wear a hat, gloves, and coat inside the house or "defrost" clothes that were in a closet close to an outside wall. My quality of life has improved ten fold and the budget remains about the same. The DES employees were very courteous and professional as well. I can't say enough good things about this company.

Dr. Energy Saver worked and I've got the numbers to prove it. First, had a great experience with Chris who truly knows his stuff when it comes to home comfort and insulation. Seriously, I asked a lot of questions. We've got a 1926 2 story house in Terrace Park and they spray foamed our rim joists and sealed and insulated our attic, which had fiberglass bats (and actual bats) before. This work was done on January 2nd and 3rd 2018, which was in the middle of single digit temperatures. I run a Nest thermostat, so I can see stats on my phone every day showing how many hours my HVAC was running. The day before they came we ran the heat for 21 hours. The day after they finished it was only 11 hours - with nearly identical weather. I continued to see the same in the weeks ahead, our furnace ran about half as much as it used to. Just this month, I saw that translate into dollars. We'd been paying $253 per month to Duke which was a semi-annual budget billing estimate. It had been the same since we moved into the house. Basically you pay an estimated amount based on past energy use, then you settle up and adjust every 6 months. Attached is the email I just received showing that after 6 months, my account has a CREDIT of $168 - meaning I don't have a bill this month at all from Duke, and my future budget billing payments are going to be lower.

I had researched a lot of information about how best to insulate a house. I had a few different quotes from companies and I was looking for key things for them to say. Basically they all said, "we'll just put in cellulose." The reason I went with Chris is for two reasons. First, he looks at this from an ecological aspect. Doing this is the best way to make your home "greener" thus saving on energy usage and pollution. Secondly, because he looks at every house as a snowflake where no two are alike. He inspected every part of my home and came up with a detailed plan that involved air sealing (the most important) then a combination of foam and cellulose. He was excellent to work with and extremely knowledgeable. His crew - especially Jason - were great to work with. Both gentleman have very high standards for themselves and want to make sure the customer is satisfied. I have no reservation recommending Chris and his company to anyone looking for improving their house.

We are very pleased with Dr. Energy Saver's work. We chose them after soliciting multiple estimates because we were impressed with their scientific approach. They sought to find and resolve the root of the problem, rather than simply just dump more insulation above the ceiling as others had suggested. The crew was very efficient and mindful of cleaning up after themselves when they were done. I first spoke with Chris over the phone and we scheduled a time to perform an inspection at the house. He spent a significant amount of time viewing our home and then explaining the services available and what would be best to achieve the energy-saving results we sought. We had the rim joist sealed with spray foam and the attic air sealed and more insulation blown in, along with the installation of a super-deck. The drafts were decreased, static temperature increased, and allowed our failing heat pump to keep up during a very cold winter. Without these measures, the house would have been much colder. Jason and his team of installers did a fantastic job. They wasted no time and got right to work. Chris has followed up several times to confirm we were happy with all the work performed and that we have achieved the desired results. Once our heat pump is replaced, I believe we will see even better and more consistent savings.

Can’t share this enough: Thanks to a coworker, I contacted Chris on 12.27.17 and set up an appointment for 1.3.18 to review my needs and get an estimate. I had been in my condo just about 12 mos., you could see the insulation batting falling out of the soffits in the utility room, and the cold funnel clouds of air would blast you at the top of the basement stairs and the bathroom next to it. I was a bit too late! 12.27.17 no water in my shower, 12.28.17 plumber found a frozen pipe and contained it and contacted Rainbow for cleanup. 12.29.17 Rainbow came in and found 2 frozen faucets in the same area, those were contained. 1.1.18, fans and dehumidifier were removed. 1.2.18 – returned from work – “Niagara Falls” condition in the drop ceiling and hole in the stairwell causing water in the upstairs hallway and a flooded stairwell/basement. Plumber returned, contained and shut off all water. Issue there was a hole above the pipes and the attic ceiling was a sheet of ice. On 1.3.18, my insurance company had a room for me, but I had an appointment with DESC and I didn’t want to leave. BLESS CHRIS AND JASON!!!! They had contacted me about the time and then I explained my situation - I needed insulation board in the attic over the pipes so the water could be turned on. Quick Response – They would be there to do it. Jason was AWESOME! He brought in several long sections of board and then showed me how he used a flame resistant foam to seal it. He waded through the water standing on the basement carpet, turned on the water, appraised the situation and kept me in my home. I could have stopped there, but contacted Chris and asked for a full estimate and quote. A really fair price. My job was a great between job filler so they were there in a couple of weeks. The team helped me make sure my indoor cats were safe, advised of the openings they had closed and the cleanup was better housekeeping job than I do! Rainbow’s estimator was impressed with the foam in the basement, my plumber was so happy the space between the bathrooms was actually very warm. I can keep my heat at 64 and have 64 -65 temps --where before it was at temp set at 75 I was lucky to get up to 58. Between Jason and my plumber’s comments, for the bathroom and stairwell repairs – intake vents were installed insure air flow. I asked my State Farm team to add them to their list and passed information on to another co-worker. I like to show folks the picture of the “foam board” install that was the culprit and see their reactions. We are so glad we found Dr. Energy Saver and couldn’t be happier with the improvements they made to our home. We first had Chris out for an energy audit which was extremely helpful and informative. He knows his stuff. We had several rooms in our home with very uneven heating and cooling. We proceeded with work based on his findings and recommendations. All I can say is from the first night after the work was completed I found myself saying “Wow I can’t believe the difference!” Our hot and cold spots are gone, the house feels so much more comfortable, and our furnace runs less.
