AMS Construction Inc

Things started out ok. At all points they were not consistent showing up when my contact said they would show up (most communication was done via text with some phone calls). As it went along, the time between them showing up got longer and longer. He explained when money is collected (1/3 before they start, 1/3 at excavation, and 1/3 when the concrete was poured). At this point, 4 months after their last payment, they have yet to finish grading the yard (dirt is piled up around my house causing dirty windows when it rains). They have yet to finish the fire pit. To make matters worse, one of their companies that they were running payments through has charged me an additional $2,500 that I can't seem to get reversed (this is currently going through the fraud department with my bank). I'm just thoroughly frustrated with AMS. I'm assuming the work will not get completely finished. I text fairly often to ask for a new estimated finish date and they never show when he says they will. I've been cordial with them as I'd really like to get this work finished and I can't afford to pay a second company to come out and finish. I wouldn't trust the guys they have doing the work either - they requested a side job, took my money and also never finished it (while this was not AMS it is representative of the people they hire).

The steps look good. Their clean up was terrible. They broke 2 window well covers. They did not cover our pavers. So there is concrete splatter on them. I had to repaint part of my house because they did not cover it. They did not cover our fence so it has concrete splatter on it. They used our neighbors driveway without permission so it has concrete footprints on it. They did not haul the dirt away the dug up. They just threw it in our flower beds. After I told them where the could dump it. I had to pick up the loose stone out of my yard. I either called or texted them 3 times and they told me they would be out 3 different dates and never showed up. It took me approximately between 4 to 5 hours to clean up their mess.

They have just been really accommodating. But they are the only estimate & offer we've had because my husband wants to work with them only and doesn't want to continue looking, as I feel like we should compare to others and keep looking before going with the first option. So far they seem great I just want to compare them to other concrete contractors.

They left a door hanger with a handwritten number to call. When I called the printed number they told me the couldn't schedule me and I needed to call the handwritten number. As a person living home alone, I was not comfortable with this, but it was implied anything else would be a huge hassle. I then called every hour for a day and a half and didn't get a reply til two days after I quit calling. The phone didn't even ring at all when i called but went straight to voicemail. They told me it would take ten or fifteen minutes and we scheduled a time for me to come home from work. They were fifteen minutes outside of their half hour window. Therefore, I called them and they said "oh yeah we're running late, but it will take an hour or two so it shouldn't be a big deal.." This meant I had to reschedule with them, because I did not have that much time available to take off of work that day. When they did come to do the work, they didn't introduce themselves or explain the work or how long it would be. I was very disappointed by the whole process.

He is very good. The job went great. He did a wonderful job. He is a little expensive. When he saw that there were some problems he tore them all out and had it redone. He had to start all over on one of the areas that he said wasn't quite right. He is the only person, I have ever have quote a price and half way through the job say he was lowering his estimate because he over estimated the cost on a particular part of the job. I have never have that done before. That particular incident was during some work he was doing on some walls in our sun room. He also told us during that job that the wallpaper may tear a little bit but that he would try not to tear it. The wallpaper did tear and he did that it shouldn't have because they should have been more careful, so he suggested we put up crown molding to cover it, rather than use paper. So, I bought the materials and he put it up for nothing. During the siding job there were some additional charges because I asked him to rebuild the front door, put up some lights, and do other miscellaneous jobs. I would give him an "A+" if Angie's List allowed it. He wasn't the highest bidder on the siding job but he was definitely up there with the highest. He always came when he said he would come but sometimes there were delays because he was working on other jobs. He never just didn't show up, he always called. He knew that he was too high on the first bid he did for me and came back asking if he could do another bid and it was lower. I wil continue to use him; however, I will continue to test the market as well.

I have been using them for fifty years. They are neat and clean up after themselves. Every night they would clean up after themselves and you wouldn't even know they were there. They know what they are doing. Their prices may be a little high. But the work they do justify the prices they get. Everyday they would talk with me and tell me what they were going to be doing the next day.
