One of the plants died, but was eventually replaced with a higher quality plant (now that one looks better than the rest) the big problem was the front yard area. The topsoil they used was horrid. It contained cow bones and teeth ( the bones and teeth were very obvious)
The grass grew in sporadically and contained more farm field weeds than grass. It looked bad enough that neighbors were commenting on it and offering advice on how to correct. Called Mike at Blass and he was unresponsive. He refused to meet with me and accused me of expecting golf green quality and being unreasonable. Eventually we call his father, who came yet right away. They put down good topsoil and reseeded. Came back several times to check progress. He said they would come back in the spring to apply weed killer to get rid of any remaining odd farm field weeds, but we never heard from them and hired amended else to apply the week killer. It was a frustrating experience. They probably do good wrk, but for some reason, that wasn't the case with us. We appreciated their attempt at fixing the problem, it just took too LNG and was frustrating.
I was concerned that they seeded the yard in June, when it was hot and dry. I had told them if it needed to wait until fall that we could wait. I was assured that the grass would grow just fine.Several weeks later we notice grass peeking through the straw and removed the straw as instructed. The grass looked sparse and there were several weeds. In spite of watering on the schedule that Blass recommended, the dirt was very dry and cracked. We also found in the dirt several cow teeth and bone fragments, which was extremely bizarre.I contacted Mark Blass. He said he would look at the work and get back with me. After several days I had not heard from him and contacted him. He said that he had stopped out to look at the yard and didn't see anything wrong with it. It was apparent to us and to our neighbors (who commented on the bad job). that something was not right with this work. Mark stated that if I was looking for a lush yard in just a few weeks, that my expectations were wrong and I would have to wait. I was not expecting to have a full lawn, I was NOT expecting to find bones and teeth and weeds in the area that they had worked. Mark Blass told me that the topsoil used was of the highest quality and they purchased it from ReSoil. At this point things were at a standstill and nothing was going to be addressed by Blass. During one of my telephone conversations with Mark Blass, he began talking very loudly and was apparently agitated with my concerns. Then the call was abruptly disconnected. I waited a while and called back, Mark said he didn't know why the call was disconnected.
I contacted ReSoil and asked them about the special blend topsoil that Blass claims they purchased from them and used in our yard. ReSoil told me that none of their soil contains teeth or bones. They also told me that there was no way that Blass used their special blend top soil in June as they didn't begin processing that soil until early July. So who knows what they used on our yard, it is unsettling to think where dirt with bones and teeth may have come from.
The landscaping that they did on the side of the house looked really good. I had no complaints about that. The only one concern I had was the tags that were left with the flowers they planted. During the quote process, Mark told me that all of the plants that they used came from a reputable local grower and they didn't buy anything from Lowes. I was also told all plants were guaranteed for one year. According to the tags on the flowers, they had purchased the flowers at Lowes. Shortly afterwards, one of the flowers died. Blass replaced the dead flower.
I then sent an email to Mike Blass (Marks father) He responded quickly and came out to our house within 24 hours. He agreed that they had really dropped the ball on our project and vowed to earn our business back again. He had new topsoil put down in the crappy, cow teeth dirt area. Then he had another company come out and aerate and reseed. We were told that once the grass began growing in the spring, then they would have someone come out to treat the weeds that has grown in with the first substandard soil they had used.
Spring came, the grass and the weeds grew and no one ever came back to treat the yard. We finally hired another company to do the weed treatment. I sent an email to Mike Blass telling him that we had hired our own company since we never heard from them. He responded that I should have called them and reminded them.
I felt that there was poor communication during this whole project. Mark Blass lacked professionalism and was quite rude. Their follow up to the problem was quite lacking. Needless to say, I will not trust Blass with any work again. It was a very bad, long drawn negative experience.
