Benchmark Roofing

The workers were excellent; they did a good job. They were quick and did a great clean up!

The company's estimate was the lowest I could find so far and I was going to hire them to fix the leak of the flashing on the roof. I later found out that when the owner's assistant contact my home warranty for the detail, he told the home warranty co. that the cost would be $1300 instead of what the owner provided $825. I confronted this problem with the assistant. He claimed that he was trying to help me to get the reimbursement from my home warranty co. (I will only get maximum $500 reimbursement. I did not see how his higher price will help me in anyway.) I told him that he shouldn't lie to anybody. What he did ruined my impression of the company and I decided not to hire them to fix my roof. I was very disappointed! Before this, I asked the company owner to contacted my home warranty co. for his estimation. I have to call them twice to see if they finally contacted them. It was not efficient. ($825.00)

The crew tore out damaged section, cleaned up the demolition then replaced the insulation. They put in the new piece and then matched the texture. Finally they repaint the entire ceiling. The most difficult aspect was matching the existing knock-down texture with the rest of the ceiling. They said they would try their best but could not guarantee it. However, they did an excellent job overall and were able to match the texture, thereby saving me the cost of having to re-texture the entire ceiling.

The price was not realistic, I would not use them.

Phone call, estimate and work was performed in a timely manner. The cause of a slight roof leak was determined to be shrinkage of caulking around the soil stacks. My assumption at this point in time is that this will correct the issue.

They did a great job! They are very friendly and nice. Something came up that we had a question about and he immediately came in to help us. They were excellent!

I have worked with Benchmark in the past, and they have always done a quality job on everything, so I had them bid on this job. Their bid was very reasonable and, since I was familiar with their quality, it was an easy choice. Mark James was very patient and informative throughout the sales process with regard to picking products, etc. The work went very well. The two chimneys were very difficult to reach due to their height and the proximity of the building next door. They brought scaffolding in (at no extra cost to me) and got the job done. They were timely and communicated well throughout. As with any big roofing job, there was some minor collateral damage caused by dropping the old shingles off of the roof, but Benchmark proactively repaired everything (cut screens, dented gutter) and gave me a refund for things they could not repair (larger broken branches). Matt Maynard made sure everything was finished correctly.

They did not try to over sell them.

Dealt with Steve Brown and he was very informative and professional. He made it very easy. Gave us his cell number and encouraged us to call with any questions. He was always quick to return any calls we made to him. Steve came to check the roof himself when the job was finished and then called us to check and see how the roof was (our opinion). He came back to remove the small satellite dish a few days later, even though we had forgotten to ask them to take it down. The job took 2 days and on the third day, they came to clean up. We were surprised to find so many nails in the driveway and in the yard afterwards. We figured there would be a few...I stopped counting at 60. I spoke to Steve about it, not angry, just to give the clean-up group a reminder to check better for them. Those nails are not good for small feet and pets.

Contacted benchmark for an estimate. Since it was roof work, they came out and left an estimate without scheduling an appointment. I called a couple times to get some questions answered, but they never returned my calls. I finally called and asked them to do the work (because they were the least expensive by far). Again, they did the work without any communication as to when it would be done. The work was done fine, communication is obviously somewhat lacking.

I was very pleased with the result. We had some issues initially with the estimate that they did not explain it very well, but they were responsive and fixed problems quickly.

Benchmark did not return my call after several days. However, when I called back the second time, the technician was at my home within a couple of hours to submit an estimate. He noticed another slight issue and said he was willing to repair it when he did the gutter work. I called to schedule the work and it was completed the next day.

Good. It took 2 plus a partial day to complete as opposed to 2 quoted. The crew worked hard and appears to done a good job. A couple questionable moments: had to call the sales contact after the first day and informed him they had not taken the felt paper to the ridge (1-2 ft short) on the back of the house. It started raining on the 3rd morning and I noticed the crew left the ridge open and uncovered after cutting the opening for the ridge vent. I call the sales rep and he said he would come over and cover. An Ice guard was quoted into job but there are no signs of one on the roof, will try to resolve at a later date. Did use coupon from Angie's List for a discount.

A crew of two men carried out the two repairs. They found that sections of the underlying sections of the framing had been damaged by insects (burrowing bees) and they proposed innovative and inexpensive solutions. Unfortunately the last day of work threatening skies loomed and, hurrying to finish, they smeared caulking compound rather sloppily over section joints. They also left one corner somewhat unfinished: the soffit (the bottom piece) sticks out beyond the fascia (the front piece) about half an inch. The two should be flush, otherwise the overhang will channel rainwater behind the fascia, causing it to rot. I called the company several times about this problem but did not hear back from them for several weeks. Eventually a company rep came to the house, prepared to fix the problem, but at that point I had decided to make the repair myself. In fairness, I think this problem was somewhat a product of the crew's attempt to repair the structural damage done to the frame.

Since it was supposed to rain later in the week, they brought their entire crew. The dumpster delivery was late (not their fault), once it arrived the roof was off in less than 2 hours! Then the roofing supply delivery was late (again not their fault). They all seemed to work together very well. One very nice thing was the supervisor who spoke both English and Spanish, he was there the entire time and served as a translator/troubleshooter whenever we had a question about anything. I appreciated this more than anything, since I'd had a bad experience at previous house with a crew who didn't speak very much English. The owner came by at the beginning and at the end to make sure we were happy with everything, which we were. He also came back the next day and painted all the vent stacks and electrical pole and just finished up all the little jobs. It was a really nice touch I hadn't anticipated.

They were especially knowledgeable and prompt. Their quote was higher than one other I got.

I found that they were very good. I was very pleased with the clean up and follow up. You get your money's worth in terms of the value and price.They scheduled the work with in a week and completed the job with in a day.

They did a good job. The sales representative was very pleasant, friendly, and professional. When they said they would get something there, they did. When I called them inquiring additional work, they came right out the next day and completed it.

They did have to come back out to fix some little stuff, but other than that, we were very satisfied. They worked very hard to make us happy- especially Ken.

Job went well and very fast. Whole process took less than an hour. Benchmark went the extra mile and checked for potential leaks in the rest of the roof and went ahead and sealed those areas as well. Called for an estimate and Benchmark was out 2 days later. They were able to repair the roof on the spot.

Work was completed in June 2007. Good options to select. Good quality materials. Mark was a good salesman and took care of all of the details with the insurance company. Good workmanship. We are pleased with the work that was done. The work crews were primarily Spanish so it was not easy to communicate openly with them. They were nice, just hard to talk with. We instructed Benchmark and the work crews before and during the work to be careful around the landscaping, yet we were somewhat disappointed with their attention to that request.

My roof still leaks around the chimney. They initially brought and installed the wrong siding. Then when they were to fix the issue they still did not do exactly the right work. I wanted insulated siding, and they simply put up insulation then the same siding. I would not use them again.

Steve called and came out to our home within twenty-four hours. He called back that afternoon to let us know that our roof had no hail damage and did not need to be replaced. He informed me that we simply had a style of shingle that was laminated and had shown some cracking, but told me that we still have three to five years left in our roof and did not need any repairs at this time.

Insurance paid for the roof. We had to pay only $250.00 deductible. They were very fast in replacing the roof. One day service and it only took a week to schedule.

My experience was excellent. Small things like how they answer their office phone and returning calls did not go unnoticed. I called 7 roofers, received quotes from 5 of them, 2 did not show or bother with returning calls. Denny, their salesman who formerly installed was competent and professional. We discussed the ventilation problem that I grew to understand from going through this process. He had the most cost effective solution. The scheduling happened very quickly. The crew was terrific! These guys had minimal conversation among themselves. (Understand, I formerly lived in a community where new construction was happening all around my house. Roofers were often the worst with loud music and even arguments). They seemed to know each others roles and simply went to work and completed a large roofing job in two days! I could have invited a priest. Cleanup, which can be the nightmare in these jobs exceeded my expectations. So far in 5 days of searching, I found 1 nail!
