Benchmark Roofing

Did not perform work. Kind of a waste of time considering how hard it was to get them out there only to learn they didn't want the liability of the job.

Initially we were happy. But the following rainy season the same leak was still happening. When I contacted Benchmark they sent a subcontractor that preformed minimal work on the job out to evaluate. After meeting with him he said I would be contacted by the next day with a solution. Three days later I still received no call back. When I contacted them again I got the run around and was told that the information given by the subcontractor was conflicting so they had to send someone else out. Communication with this company is horrible. I was inconvenienced twice by going to meet them because this was for our rental property. I feel that the subcontractor was being honest with me and Benchmark did not want to admit to something that was not done properly the first time. After they finally did the repair (two weeks after my initial call) we have not experienced any leaks but we have also not had much rain since it was completed. After the aggravation with lack of urgency and communication I will not hire again.

I had a leak on my roof that needed fixed. I also had a gutter that needed to be replaced. The first time meeting Steve Brown was a good one. I really liked him. seemed knowledgeable and friendly. He tried to patch my roof and did not charge me. Told me to let him know if this worked and then he would come back out to fix the hole in my ceiling. This was in like the early spring. It seemed to help for a couple weeks then the leak returned like nothing had been done to it. I called Benchmark and they said they would have someone give me a call. Well they didn't for 3 weeks so I scheduled service with another company. Then Steve called me and said he could come out that day and did. I cancelled my appointment with the other company. Steve gave me his card and told me to call him directly. Tried to fix the roof again and it did not work. He then came back out and tried a different solution to see if it would work. He quoted me 200-250 to fix the gutter. I then called him and asked him to come back out. I asked him to quote me again. This time it was like 400. I still said that was fine because I needed it fixed regardless.He said he would try to be out Tuesday but was not sure because this was the day after labor day. I said Tuesday or Wednesday would be fine. Since this time he has never came out or returned any of my calls. I normally do not like to complain because I understand things happen. It just really bothers me that he will not answer any of my calls and then my fiance seen him today out at my next door neighbors house. I do not recommend them at all. I used them because Angies List had them highly rated. I am very dissapointed. I still have a hole in my ceiling that is covered up by a trash bag, and a roof that is still leaking.

It went well. Steve Brown was easy to work with and the price was very good. The roof looks great. My only issue was that I wanted hip roof ventilation in addition to ridge ventilation. They were not familiar with this product or technique, so I found it on the internet and provided the information. They agreed to do the hip ventilation, and I assumed they would use the product I found for them, or a similar product made specifically for hip ventilation. Instead, they used the ridge ventilation product they normally use, and put it on the hip. I am still not sure if this was an acceptable product and technique for the situation.

The roof was fixed. No more leaks.

They did an excellent job. They ran into an issue with rotting wood and that did not stop them from working at all.

They cleaned everything up, and we had no problems. The insurance covered it because it was torn off during a storm.

Put the roof on improperly and let the work incomplete in the rain, caused water damage. Had you to hire another contractor on our own to finish the job and fix their mistakes. Lowes refused to pay for the contractor that we had to hire, even asked for a discount and they refused that as well. We basically had to cover everything.

It was brought to my attention that about 10ft of my upper level gutter guard was missing. Benchmark roofing had installed them due to a design fault a couple of years ago. I called and explained what had been brought to my attention. The gentleman, Steve Brown, who had replaced the original gutter came out and took a look. We can't figure out why 10 ft was missing but he said he would order that much and fix it. He said he'd like to get it done before the leaves start falling. That would get into the open gutter. He replaced the footage at no charge. I have had this company relaced my roof and previous gutters. They did a wonderful job. Always professional great company to deal with.

I ended up taking care of it myself. Their estimate was $1500. I got a metal roof on it and he wanted to replace about four sections of it. I kind of figured out how to take care of it. I told him what I wanted to do and he explained some things to me about the metal roof. I was able to take care of it myself because it was $1500. They were the ones that returned my phone call and they were willing to do work with me. I thought their price was a little high. The gentleman was very knowledgeable and he answered all my questions. He was out there within twenty four hours of the phone call. He was there when he said he was going to be there.

I stayed inside the house while he worked on the roof. I believe it took him about 20 to 30 minutes to assess and add the cooking. He said that wetness inside my living room ceiling could be attributed to the poor construction but the work on the new roof was alright. He did not provide me with a receipt explaining what he did or what I paid for the project.

When I got home they were just finishing. Cleanup was fine. I still continue to find pieces of shingles but no nails. I am considering using them to replace my gutters.

There was some initial confusion on where to send the invoice as the work was done during the sale transaction of the home. The invoice was also incorrect as it listed services that had been originally quoted, but not performed. Steve Brown was able to get things sorted out and get the correct invoice to the correct recipients. The work was performed extremely well and up to my high standards. Because of the confusion, Steve personally came out to my home to ensure all issues were resolved and even helped assist with another concern at no charge to me.

Very thorough inspection and detailed follow-up. Overall a great job.

Manager who came out to provide quote, ending up cleaning out the box gutters and called to inform me that everything was in good shape. Didn't charge for his services. Happy customer!

I contacted several roofing companies about removing an attic vent fan, installing a ridge vent and replacing some of our gutters and downspouts. I had read positive reviews of Benchmark Roofing on Angie's List and for this reason contacted them. They promptly sent a person who evaluated our roof, attic and gutters and who gave me an estimate for the work. He was courteous and very patient in answering my many questions. He seemed very knowledgeable about roofing. We decided to accept the Benchmark Roofing estimate. I requested that the company contact me in advance of the date they would perform this work. They called me several days in advance and then also called on the morning of the day the work was done. I spoke with the crew when they were doing the work and found them to be hard workers and very courteous. We were so pleased with the work that we had them return several months later to replace our remaining gutters and downspouts and add leaf gutter guards in the additional gutters. I have dealt with other roofers for both our home and a summer home and found Benchmark Roofing to be the best of them in Columbus. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Initially, I requested that Benchmark's technician come to the house while I was home. Their technician came out and performed the work while I was not home due to a scheduling issue. I requested that he come back out because there were specific items that I wanted him to check that he did not address when he was here the first time. He did come back out, addressed my questions/issues, and provided a thorough review of the condition of my roof. He also performed some light preventive maintenance at no charge. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I was very happy after the second visit. During that second visit, I asked that he check out some other issues with bathroom exhaust vents in my attic. He said that they were correcting a similar issue with an apartment complex at that time, and that they would let me know what solution they had devised in hopes that it would solve my problem. I called him back about one month later (November '13), and he assured me that he had not forgotten about me. By late December '13, I decided that he wasn't going to call. Since I wanted the work to be completed before really cold weather set in, I purchased the materials I needed, climbed into the attic in 30 degree weather, and did the work myself. Too bad I didn't hear from Benchmark because I gladly would have paid them to do the work. The lack of following my initial request and lack of follow-up on the exhaust vent issue is the reason I rated them "C" in responsiveness. This also caused me to rate them "B" in professionalism rather that "A", since I believe that keeping your word / follow-up is part of being professional.

I called to have them evaluate a minor roof repair. Someone called me back in a day or 2 and said that they always send out a crew and so all their work had a minimum charge of 500-550 dollars (I can't remember exactly). So if I was still interested, he said that when someone asks about a small job, he looks carefully at the roof to see if there's something else that needs fixing in order to make the most out of the minimum charge. I was at least interested in having him look, and he said he'd come out the next week and look at the job. So far it's been over 2 weeks and I still have not heard back from him. At least I didn't have to take off work to be there for the estimate. Meanwhile I found another highly rated roofer who showed up when scheduled and gave me a reasonable estimate. I'm not complaining about the minimum charge, (although I probably would not have called them if that had been posted on Angie's list), since he was up front about it. But I wish they had at least showed up when they said they would. I guess they just aren't interested in small jobs.

Everything turned out great! They were able to come out quickly after I had purchase the big deal. One person was here doing the inspection and one man was here doing the work and it took 2-3 hours to complete. They were very professional and very informative. I was very happy with them!

They helped me work with my insurance company to get the work paid for. Andy, the contractor, was very personable and polite.

I originally called Benchmark to set up an appointment for someone to come out and find a leak in my roof (Monday 1-27-14). I was told they would have one of their salesmen call me within 24 hours. Four days later (Friday 1-31-14) I called back to find out why no one had called. A salesperson finally called me Friday evening and left his cell number. I called him back Monday (2-3-14) and we set up an appointment for Friday 2-7-14 at 3:30 p.m.. The salesman (Gary B.???) called me late Friday morning to reschedule, so, we rescheduled for Monday 2-10-14 at 3:30 p.m.. I left work early to make sure I was home by 2:00 p.m.. Gary never showed, nor did he call to let me know he was either running late or would not be able to make it. If they didn't want my business I wish they would have told me upfront so I wouldn't have wasted two weeks trying to get them out for an estimate.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. They came and did what they said they would do but they never emailed us the report. We called a couple of times but they never sent the report. The price was as advertised.

We discovered water damage in the ceiling of a second floor bedroom over a weekend. It was due to a leak in the roof around the plumbing stack. That Saturday I called 3 roofing companies based on Angie's List ratings; Benchmark was the only one to get back to me on the following Monday (one of the companies never returned my call!). They sent an estimator the next day and the repair was made by Thursday morning. The other roofing company said it would be 2 weeks before a repair could be made. We authorized other repairs while he was here, including work on the furnace stack, hole repair and replacement of a couple of missing shingles. The repairman worked quickly and cleaned up after himself. It was good to know that the entire roof had been walked and inspected.

They were quick, professional, and did a great job.

Steve Calkins of Benchmark Roofing did a GREAT job. Because of the weather, he ended up having to come back on a couple of occasions and not only did he do a good job and preformed everything that was on his proposal but he was always on time; kept us in the loop as to what was happening and what needed to be done; was courteous and cleaned up after he finished working. Would I use him again, IN A HEART BEAT!
