Benchmark Roofing

Benchmark was the 4th contractor contacted after the others failed to respond or keep appointments. Working with Terry Wright and Jason Whitley was a pleasure, they explained everything in detail on what needed to done, the cost, and the schedule. They also worked with the insurance company, including meeting with the insurance adjuster to look at the damage. Payment for the work was scheduled around the insurance adjustment, which was a big relief. Both the roofing and interior work crews were professional, clean, always on time and schedule. They explained what they were doing and why they did it that way. Each day, what little construction mess (they cleaned as they went) was promptly cleaned up. At the end of the project, except for the new shingles and roof vents, there was no sign that they were there. I had nothing to cleanup or move back. Hopefully this is the last time I need this type of work done, but if needed, Benchmark will be the first and only contractor contacted.

Overall, it was a good experience. There were some bumps along the way, but these problems were managed effectively. They were always willing to make sure we were completely satisfied.

I work as a design engineer and part of my job description is to be very detail oriented, consequently I have very high expectations. I got up on the roof and walked around to evaluate the job. I found all trimming around the vents, stacks, etc. to be neatly done. All of the shingles at the edges were even and smooth. I noticed that they had even taken the time to strike a chalk line at the ridge of the roof so that when they installed the ridge shingles they were straight. But the difference between a high quality job and an exceptional job is when I noticed that they stripped the old roof off of our little garden wishing well and replaced it with new underlayment, drip edge, and shingles so that it matches our new roof on our house. It is not often in life that one experiences the quality of workmanship where the extra effort is put forth to do the small things that make the job an exceptional one. To say that I am impressed is not quite sufficient, but it will have to do. I highly recommend Ken Miller, and Benchmark roofing.

My contact at Benchmark is Jamie Young. Jamie has always been very professional, punctual, and detailed. He has given me a clear quote of services including the start date. Jamie has met me at work to fit my schedule and on a weekend to meet with my insurance adjuster to fit both the adjuster's and my schedule.

Ken was very professional in handling things from start to finish. He did the initial estimate (he was the lowest by far of all estimates I received). When my insurance company balked at paying to replace the entire roof (they only wanted to pay to replace the front half of the roof), Ken went to bat for me by providing my insurance company with additional information. When the approval for a full roof replacement finally came, Ken jumped into action. He told me the day he was coming to complete the work. That was the only way I would have known he was there (and the fact that my roof no longer was missing most of its shingles). There was absolutely no mess left behind (nails, shingles, etc.). It was pristine! The only thing left behind was a beautiful new dimensional shingled roof. Thanks, Ken & Benchmark!

Called Benchmark based on high ratings here on Angie's List. After having dealt with them, I am far less than impressed. The receptionist was very professional, and assured me I would get a call back to set an appt within 24 hrs. True to her word, I got the callback and an appt was set. Then the trouble started. the estimator met me at the house. I waited inside while he did his thing. After a few mins, he rang our doorbell and told me that he was done. He said he walked around the house and did not see any damage. I clarified that he *walked around* the house and did not get on the roof. He said yes, and that he didn't see any damage. I asked him to go up on the roof, as I personally recovered 6 torn shingles, and therefore knew that there was some damage, just didn't know where. He seemed put out, but agreed to go up and look. I also asked him to take pictures if he found damage (receptionist already said he would as part of estimate process). After he was up on roof for a while, he came back and reported shingle loss on 3 of our 4 roof slopes, and suggested that it would require a complete re-roofing. He inquired about our insurance carrier and suggested that he should send the estimate and photos directly to them. Foolishly, i agreed, and gave him ins adjustor's email. I asked him to be certain to copy me on the report and any subsequent emails to the adjustor so that I would know what was going on. He assured me that he would. He also gave me an email address for benchmark roofing. I never heard a thing - after 4 days had gone by... Tried the email address he gave me and it was invalid! So, I called Benchmark. Receptionist was very professional, but was unable to give me any info. Said she would have the estimator call me. He did shortly thereafter, and asked me what I needed. I recapped his agreement to send estimate and pics to me and insurance adjustor. He said it would be done shortly. Benchmark (a different person named Jason, who was not the original estimator) then sent an estimate to my insurance company without copying me - and they also left a number of items off the estimate such as: omitted the roof vent, omitted soffit damage and omitted pictures. The insurance adjuster contacted me and asked for the pictures- and forwarded me the estimate when he heard I had never seen it. I called Benchmark and asked about the missing pictures and the missing soffit and roof vent. Again had to wait for a call back from the estimator. When I talked to him I explained that I needed to be copied on estimate also, and that it needed to be changed to include the missing items. Again I was not copied on the estimate and it was sent by Benchmark directly to my insurance company. After all the issues with just getting an estimator to go up on the roof, and then get correct estimate, I elected not to use Benchmark. Unfortunately, the work still has not been performed because roofers are so busy they seem un interested in new business..

We requested an estimate for a total roof replacement after wind damage. Benchmark was excellent to deal with on the phone and came quickly to give a very reasonable estimate. We didn't end up using them simply because another company spent a bit more time explaining exactly what they would do.

The office person, who answered the telephone, stated that an estimator would contact me that day or the next. Nobody bothered. I, personally, having spent over twenty years in the construction industry as project manager, estimator and project engineer, have no faith in a company or business which presents its dependability this poorly up front.

I called Benchmark after the wind storm in February. They came right out and gave me an estimate and the work was completed within two weeks. Jason was wonderful to work with and I recommend the company to two of my neighbors.

They were very accommodating and professional. They are very good at cleaning up- we have three dogs and they were extra careful to make sure that nothing was left in the yard. I would recommend them to others.

They were wonderful! They were clean, neat, and kept their word! They finished the job, and it was perfect!

The whole experience was very pleasant. They were prompt in returning phone calls and coming out to do an estimate. On top of roofing job, they also did some small fixes for us around the house for free. We are very pleased with the qualify of the work.

The whole experience was painless. They were prompt in coming out to do an estimate We had been impressed by the positive reviews on Angie's List and the estimator guy told us we could get $250 coupon from Angie's List, which would pay for our deductible. That made us very happy too.

Estimate story;two days to get call back, two more days for appointment,available appointment slot was at inconvenient time Friday at 6:30 pm and no rep showed up for scheduled appointment or called.

Never did get the estimate we needed to have the work done. They never showed to give us an estimate. We would have used them had they been responsive.

We have not yet decided rather we would use them or another company. We certainly have been impressed with the punctuality, responsiveness, and a lot of good work through the estimate.

GREAT experience. Very pleasant person answered the phone and said someone would call us within 2 days. Someone called us that day and came out the next morning. Left an estimate and a voicemail for us. We agreed to the work and Steve told us up to a couple of weeks to get back to the house. Just a few days later they called and said they'll have a crew out to our house to complete the job. An army of 6 workers and Steve stopped out and got the job done quickly. They also cleaned up their mess immediately so we didn't have to worry about nails with our cars and our dog. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

On Sunday 2/1/09 the snow on our roof started melting, and a leak that was supposedly fixed in the Fall by B&B started leaking again. The problem: we just had everything remodeled: new drywall, new door frames, new carpet. After playing phonetag with B&B all morning (eventhough they claim to have an "emergency" number) they were not willing to send somebody out. I decided to contact other companies. It was quite hard to find anyone to come out on a Sunday. BENCHMARK were the ONLY ones that responded immediately to my call and were willing to send someone over. They told us they would have somebody out here within 1.5hrs...they were here within 20 min. Their employee was very service oriented (ask for Ron when you hire them), had the leak stopped and the problem identified. As it turned out the problem was not actually our roof, but our box gutters. They cleared everything up, removed the heavy ice and snow load, and stopped the water from coming in. Of course they charged an additional fee for this (which they had told me already in advance), but it was absolutely worth it.

They were punctual in coming out and seemed competent. The tarp has held up ever since mid-September. I'm considering using them when I have the work done in the Spring as their price was very reasonable.

They are wonderful, good prices and very friendly. They were very efficient completely the job in one day. The job was very good and they were great in checking back with us. They paid great attention to the details.

VERY CUSTOMER FOCUSED, QUICK AND PROFESSIONAL.

It is hard to give this company/job anything higher than a C. There were so many issues, and although the company made them right, it was a huge headache. I had two trees fall on my house from a windstorm in Sept. 08. After waiting for a month to get my insurance company s preferred contractor out I called Benchmark instead, who had done some gutter work for me in the past. Jamie, the project manager, came out the next day and wrote up the estimate to replace my entire roof. It was accepted by the insurance company with no haggling on price so away the project went. The crew that came out 3 weeks later was a disaster. First off, the tear-off was horrible and damaged my freshly stained wood siding and ripped 4 window screens in the process. Then instead of replacing the boards in the roof with holes they put metal flashing over them and proceeded to shingle over them. Luckily I went into the attic and could see they did this so I made them rip off the shingles and replace the boards as we had agreed upon in the contract. On day 2 the sun was shining so my wife and I were able to notice the biggest issue. They were putting on the wrong shingles!!! It was the wrong color than what was agreed upon and specified in the contract. It looked mismatched with our house color in the sun. Since there was never a supervisor on sight during the two day ordeal we had to call the emergency number to get someone to come out since it was a Saturday, but at that point it was too late and they had to finish what they had started with the wrong shingles. The final kicker was that after the job was over I went back into the attic to check things out and noticed that the wiring to the vent fans, which had to be removed, were simply cut and not secured or capped. Luckily I had the breaker turned off or the roofer would have been fried or started a fire. The resolution to all of this was to 1) have them tear-off and replace the roof with the correct shingles a few weeks later (they offered us a $2K credit to keep what they incorrectly put on, but as mentioned it didn t look proper), 2) deduct the cost of touching up my wood siding stain from the final payment (I got an estimate of $300 from my painter who just did the job in April 08), 3) have an electrician secure the wiring that was cut (cost $70, which also came out of final payment as well), 4) have them fix my 4 screens. One thing I will say positive is that they did all of the above resolution points without complaint and the second roofing crew seemed much better, but it still shouldn t have been necessary in the first place especially the shingle mix up if there were a supervisor coming around checking things out.

They did a great job and were fast about getting me scheduled. After several weeks of going back and forth with our insurance, I was able to sign with them in December. I signed the contract on Wednesday and Steve Brown called Thursday asking if I was okay with them coming the next morning. Of course we didn't and the ugly blue tarp disappeared from my roof! Their crew was fast and got the work done well. They left the tarp for us where we could easily find it along with some extra shingles.

Pulled Benchmark's name from Angie's list plus a co-worker had them come out and give an estimate and they fixed his roof within 2 weeks of calling. Called and gave the customer service rep the information on our home and the damage requesting for them to come out and give an estimate. I was told we would hear back from them within 2 weeks to set up an appointment. Never heard back from them.

They fixed it the same day and came out right away! I was grateful that they were available because everyone was so busy with the storm damage!
