We have a 2300 sq. ft. cape cod-style house built in 1990. The upstairs bedrooms have knee walls making the attic space a little more difficult to gain access. We had one access door in the back wall and there was some access over the garage to the other end of the attic space in the back of the house. To gain access to the attic space that spans the front of the house and over the foyer,Attic Experts had to cut five additional access holes through the drywall. We had eShield insulation put on the attic walls on the front and back of the house in the upstairs and blown-in insulation on all the attic floor spaces upstairs and also between the first and second floor joists. We did not have the attic space above the garage done as it is not a heated garage. The crew arrived at the scheduled start time and went right to work. We had a crew of three guys and it took 10 hours to complete the job for a total of 30 hours of working time. We had a professional dry wall guy come in afterwards and repair the access holes they cut out as Attic Experts do not do drywall work. This was an additional $300. We have had both cold and hot weather since this insulation job was completed. We have noticed a real difference in the level of comfort in the entire house. On mornings when it is has been 35-40 outside, the inside temperature has not dropped below 67 inside overnight. The temperature has reached mid-80s and the house stays right around 77 inside. We have not run the air conditioner yet so we will see how well the new insulation works as we move into the hot, humid summer months ahead. We feel we made the right decision to upgrade our insulation and have recommended this company, Attic Experts, and their products to friends and family.
Description of Work: Put eShield and blown-in insulation "just about everywhere" in the attic space, side walls, and between the first and second floors.

The workers called when they were in transit to give me the estimated arrival time. Once they arrived they checked the attic and communicated step by step of the worked that would be performed. I was able to ask questions along they way and they guys were very receptiive. After they work was completed I was given an opportunity to see the results in the Attic.

Two employees called ahead of time and arrived on time to perform work. Introduced themselves and explained what they were doing while completing the job. Encouraged me to inspect their work afterwards. Total job took about 3 hours. Nice job of cleaning up afterwards. I like doing business with small companies who appreciate the value of professional employees and customer service. I will be referring my neighbors to Attic Experts.
Description of Work: Came out on 12/12 and provided a thorough estimate and returned on 12/20 to perform the work. Added insulation to attic spaces and installed eShield insulation around exposed master bedroom walls above garage attic space. House is 22 years old and upstairs rooms are all about 6 degrees cooler than downstairs in cold season. Upgraded to R60 value.

Initially took a while to get a call back to set up appt. for quote, but once appt. was set the field rep (JB) arrived on time and was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He looked at both spaces and provided a list of recommendations and a quote for the work. After a day to think it over and a tiny bit of negotiation, we received the contract and an install date just 2 weeks out (today). Installers Joe & Marty were right on time at 8AM, arriving with a smile and plan of action. They looked over both areas, and then started with the home attic first. Once finished with that area I was invited to view their work and they explained everything they did and why. They then cleaned/swept up that area and proceeded to the garage attic where the process was repeated. These two were very efficient and had the entire job completed by noon. Very pleased with Attic Experts overall and will definitely be recommending them!
Description of Work: Installed AttiCat blown in insulation to garage attic from 0 to R-60, and in home attic from current level of approx. R-22 to R-60.

Response from Attic Experts Insulation
Reply to Member's comments: We installed Member's Project in April 2012 not in September. There was some confusion over the additional insulation over the garage area which our sales rep did look at and we did go back and insulate that area, we also returned a third time to reduce the size of a "storage area" we had set up, per Member's request, he then decided it could be smaller so we did that and insulated the area that was no longer a storage area. And also made sure the rest of the home was up to or slightly above the amount purchased. Upon completion of this work Member sent us the following e mail: Another letter. This one much more pleasant. Joe Williams and the other tech were just out here this morning to complete the job per our discussion. I am quite satisfied with the final result even though I don't see the number of Rafter Mates I expected. But I am very well satisfied with the additional insulation they installed. The attic fan will do all the work of ventilating the attic anyway. I would recommend Attic Experts for any potential customer of yours. If you want you can have them contact me personnaly by phone or email. But this was a learning experience for both of us. And as I have said before we should all learn something new every day. My recommendations for future job quotations would be: * Specifically exclude what is NOT included in the proposal. eg No insulation over garages or unheated areas. * Specify exactly how many rafter mates will be installed at a minimum. * Specify the exact number of inches of additional insulation that will be added to reach the R value you are quoting since the R value is a relative number based on the material used. * When you install the insulation go slightly over that inches amount to prevent any misunderstandings. Please thank Joe Williams, Brain Hogg and the other techs for their patience with me and also thanks to you JB for your timely business like handling of this matter. Be sure to thank the other techs because I know this had to be rough for them. I work in the service field myself and I'm fully aware of the aggravation of having to go back to a job to get it finally right. That is why I take the time (TTT) to put in the little bit of extra care when I am at a customer's site. I pride myself in very few callbacks. My job is even more irritating since I am in industrial Troubleshooting which means trouble for everyone. When service work of mine doesn't work we have to give it away free! THANKS MUCH AGAIN Sent from my iPad Member Service Technician Cincinnati Office: Cell: Toll Free : After Member's review I contacted him to see where my confusion on his review vs. his email was. He explained he could not see more than a few rafter mates for venting and he had a family member tell him that another family member could have done for less money. I assured him the rafter mates were there because our crew leader had checked them on one of his previous visits, and obviously we can not compete with free labor . We did offer to come back and take pictures or video of additional rafter mates but Member stated emphatically he would not let anyone up in the attic past the ladder which would make showing him where they are impossible. I truly feel I have tried to resolve the Member's concerns on this project but at this point unfortunately I believe we have come to an impasse. Brian Hogg Pres. Attic Experts

Working with Attic Experts was great. Everyone I interacted with (on the phone, the salesman giving the estimate, the installers) was very knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing was reasonable and work was Top Quality. Installers were professional and made quick work of the job. Installers provided pictures after the install to insure I was happy. Owner called after the job was complete to make sure everything went well. Extremely Satisfied with the service.

A company representative came over to survey our house's attic areas and garage in order to make a recommendation on increasing the insullation. He was very thorough in going over type of insulation we currently have, what he recommended to increase the home's insulation, how the insullating material his company uses differs from other companies, and answered all of my questions. On the day of the service, the workmen showed up just a wee bit early, but were willing to wait if need be. They went right to work. They needed to pull a hose up through an upstairs window but the screens in the two windows I showed them to use did not want to budge. Rather than force one of the screens out, they came to me to ask what I would like to do. I found another window they could use where the screen came right out. There were two separate attic areas to be insulated. After each area was done and after the wall was insulated, they took me up to inspect their work and see if it met my approval. They cleaned up areas in the house under the attic openings and garage. There were no traces of insulation left in my upstairs hallway under the attic openings. When they were done, I happened to be on a telephone call and they patiently waited until I finished my call. Both the original company representative and two workmen were very personable and pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: I requested Attic Experts to increase the insullation in two attic areas of my house. I also asked to increase the insulation on a common wall between an upstairs bedroom and celing area of the garage that only had minimal insulation.

They had a good price, good service, and good communication before and after the sale. It has only been about 6 weeks but I can tell that insulation is making a big difference. The upstairs is pretty much the same temperature as downstairs. Last night it was 30 degrees outside. I set the thermostat on 68 degrees, and I think the furnace only had to turn on a couple times for a few minutes during the night. The new insulation is really holding in the heat well. It makes a difference in the whole house. Not just upstairs. I'm anxious to see how it does in the summer time with our AC costs. Also, I think the insulation makes the house more quiet too. I don't notice as much noise from a nearby factory. I think I would definitely have Attic Experts do this same job again. It's a good investment. If you choose to call Attic Experts tell them Kent Keller sent ya.
Description of Work: We have a Cape Cod style house built in 1987. About 2500 sq ft. The upstairs gets real hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Our kids were uncomfortable. So I got on Angies list and found Attic Experts. I called them and they promptly came out. The salesman did an inspection of our attic and upstairs and gave us a thorough explanation of what he thought we needed. He gave us almost too much information. This guy loves insulation. LOL. We only had 5" of insulation in our attic. It was below the rafters. So we had them raise our R rating from R11 up to R60, which is 20" of insulation. This is above and beyond the current code standard, which I think is R48. They also put in a heat shield blanket on the side walls. Its hard to insulate a Cape Cod style house on the side walls but this heat shield blanket is a good tool to help insulate the side walls. I shopped around a little bit and Attic Experts seemed to be the most thorough and they gave us a fair price, but I was able to talk them down on the price a little bit. We scheduled the job and they came out. There was a little hiccup with them not having enough heat shield, so they apologized and had to reschedule. They gave me an extra discount for the trouble. When they came out the 2nd time they did the job in about 6 hours. They showed me exactly what they did and kept me informed of the whole procedure. They were clean and friendly. They did a quality job. My only slight complaint is that to properly insulate our Cape Cod home they had to cut a hole in the wall of each room so that they could blow insulation back in there. I want the house as well insulated as possible. The problem is that they cover up the hole with something like a plastic hatch door. Its about 14" square. It seals up the hole, and you could hide the hatch door behind a bed or dresser, but I prefer not to have the hatch covers. I don't want my kids messing with them and trying to get inside the wall. I'm kinda picky about drywall. So after the insulation guys left I called a drywall guy and had him patch up the holes with a new square of drywall and mud, so that the wall would look untouched and new. I don't expect the insulation guys to be able to also do drywall patching and mudding, but maybe they could provide the option to have a drywall guy come and fix the holes afterward. If necessary they could just raise the price an extra $150, if you want the drywall fixed instead of using the plastic hatch door things. This would only be necessary on Cape Cod style houses, where part of the roof is also behind a wall. But other than that I am very happy.

I had requested an estimate over the phone. Brian, the owner, was very professional and pleasant. He booked the appointment with one of his salesman. The salesman arrived on time and was also professional and pleasant. Attic experts was the third bid that I had received. The salesman was the only one who sat down with me and discussed technical aspects of how and why insulation was a good investment. He answered all of my questions and then examined the areas to be insulated. He was the only one out of the three to recognize that my upper level had one wall exposed to the attic area and suggested it be insulated as well. We came to an agreed price. He was higher than the other two bids that I received but they had not provided me with what really needed done to ensure the best results. All aspects were professional and well planned and I felt comfortable at all times. I was pleased to find out that no deposit was required. Payment in full was due when the job was completed. The installers called in advance and arrived on time. They were both personable and seemed truly interested in completing the job correctly. During the installation process, they kept me informed as to what was being done and even asked me to take a look from time to time to see their progress. They cleaned up any debris and made sure I was happy before they left. Both the salesman and the installers discussed the referral program which I hope to take advantage of soon. Brian called me shortly after his well trained crew left to make sure I was satisfied and thanked me for my business. This is truly a well run operation. All contractors and home improvement companies should take lessons from Brian and his staff.
Description of Work: I had insulation added to two different attic areas in my home. I also had the second floor wall that is exposed to one of the attic areas insulated as well. Baffles were added to all attic areas to ensure good ventilation. Both attic access hatches were extended to contain the added inches of insulation and insulated on their surface to reduce heat loss.

First of all, the owner, Brian, immediately followed up on my initial call. The appointment was made and JB showed up on time and gave me a thorough insulation inspection and assessment of what products would suit my needs best. Since my house is approximately 55 years old we were pretty sure, there was minimal insulation. As a trained engineer, JB was very knowledgeable and professional. I was confident he was giving me an honest assessment of what could be done. Brian followed up again after the estimate and we negotiated a little and came to an agreement on price and product. JB even returned to make adjustments to the contract based upon what I wanted....now, that's great follow through. Installation date was set and the installers showed up "on time" and ready to install. I can't say enough about the installers, Joe and Marty. They were personable, got to work quickly and did a great job. They kept me informed of their progress throughout the day. If I hadn't seen the 6 inches of fiberglass and radiant heat barriers being installed I would have never known they were here. These guys cleaned up everything!! Even the four access panels were cut precisely and the snap on plastic covers were almost invisible (couldn't believe that). Marty and Joe worked straight through from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM without a break. They knew I had an important appointment and really worked hard to get everything done, and they did. I can't believe what a big difference there is in the warmth of my house (that's because I got the Radiant Heat Barriers and 6" of Fiberglass). My thanks to Brian, JB, Joe and Marty. They are a great team of professionals and I couldn't be happier with how everything went. These guys are good people who get the job done in a courteous professional manner. You'd be crazy not to hire them. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM.

If you don't get an estimate from these folks you're nuts. We knew we needed to add more insulation in our attic and above our garage so we went about getting estimates. I knew what the product cost was because I was originally going to do it myself but soon realized I wasn't ever going to get around to it! I expected a estimate in the $3000 range based on what I knew the cost of the product was. I received estaimates as follows: $7500 which I got down to $6300 from one company; then another company that started at $5300 and ended up at $4800. Both of these companies were going to go to R49 not R60 Both of these companies did not mention they would add vent tubing from the bathrrom fans to the roof vents. Both of these companies did not discuss alternatives on insulatiing above the garage other than blowing in the insulation. Attic Experts recommended that they install R19 Fiberglass batting plus another R11 Silver coated radiant heat barrier above the garge to insulate the bathroom and walk in closet area (which got really hot or cold depending on the season) in addition to the R60 insulation. All of these companies use the Corning Attic Cat fiberglass insulation. Attic Experts arrived early (a plus); were very professional and courteous and go right to work. They could not access the garage space from the attic so with our permission cut a small access hole in the garage that was capped with a spring loaded white plastic door you would really not notice unless you were looking for it.When they got above the garage they found wasp nests! So what did they do? They saw we had wasp/hornet spray in the garage and went about spraying those wasps to rid the attic of this problem. Talk about above and beyond! They finished the entire job in about 4 hours, cleaned up after themselves and left. We have immediately noticed the difference! What a delight to have a customer driven and professional company to do business with. Anyone considering this type of service needs to do themselves a favor and give Attic Experts a call!!
Description of Work: Increased attic insulation to R60; routed exhaust tubes from bathroom fans to the roof vents; insulated with R19 fiberglass batting plus another layer of R11 fiberglass silver coated shielding above garage (to insulate walk in closet on the 2nd floor).

They made contact right away after my initial contact. Salesperson came, looked around, explained things well. Was able to set up appt for next week. I really was not expecting it to cost so much, but I think it was competitive from what I have read. I do not always go with the lowest as sometimes you get what you pay for. Workers arrived on time. (maybe I was hoping they would be a little late as they were to show up at 7:30am and we were still in bed when they came at 7:34) No problems with workers during work. They did not bother us at all.Completed job quickly (much quicker than was expected). Paperwork completed no problem. I noticed a difference that day. If anyone is holding off getting insulation DON'T! I wish I would have done it a long time ago! I used to have to put my thermostat on 70 just to get it comfortable in my house. My ac could NEVER keep up and it was often 80 in my house. Running all the time and often going into "recovery mode" to try to cool it down. Now I have my thermostat set at 74 and it feels great in my house! and my ac shuts off during the day.I can not wait to get my next bill. The only I wish was that they had a payment plan, maybe 90 days SAC.

Actually I met Brian at the Home and Garden show and talk about everything including insulation, nice person Filled out a card and they called about a week later to set up a visit by the sales Rep. He look at my Attic, did measurements and demonstrated the insulation barrier that they would use against my exposed walls that couldn't get blown insulation installed. The day of the install the crew called and asked if they could come earlier, since they finished the prior job early then expected. So, the job started off on a good note. The guys were dressed neat and clean and were very friendly. Kept me informed of their progress and answered any questions I had. After the job was completed, they cleaned up after themselves and vacuumed. I can see why this company has high scores on Angie's List. Thanks Brian and Crew.

I found that the installation experience was outstanding because the sales person and the installation person were one and the same because: 1)The information provided to help me make the decision to upgrade my insulation was accurate and not overblown- I felt I was not sold something I did not need. 2)There were no surprises on the day the work was completed. Installation was painless, they kept my home clean and free of debride and return things in its proper place. I would highly recommend their product and their service.

They were on time and they did a very good job on the estimate. I ended up not going with them only because another company was running a Big Deal. Their estimate was close to other companies.
Description of Work: They came out to give me an estimate on putting in cellulose attic insulation.

Amazingly well! Both the sales and install team were very professional and knowledgeable. They assured me countless times that they would get the job done right, and they followed through! I would recommend them to anyone looking to insulate their home and save on energy bills. In Addition, they sealed all my HVAC ductwork with metal tape and cleaned out the trash from my attic before starting the job...exceeding my expectations!
Description of Work: Insulated my entire attic with blown-in fiberglass insulation so that it met R49 insulation level. In addition, they sealed all my HVAC ductwork with metal tape and cleaned out the trash from my attic before starting the job...exceeding my expectations!

It went okay. I am thinking of using their services, but I am going to get a few more bids first.

The squirrels that were inside my attic had messed up the insulation so I had it replaced. They were about an hour late but the team at my home was great. There was an error on the paperwork that it told them to be at my home at 8:30 instead of 7:30. They also underestimated the amount of insulation that was needed for the job so they went back to the office to get more which was fine. This company likes to meet with both individuals in the household and I had trouble getting them to come out to my home at a time that was convenient for me. The individual who did come to my home gave the impression that he was uncomfortable dealing with a woman and was shocked when I signed the contract. They do good work and have a good company. I hope other customers are not put off by an attitude because they work is good.
Description of Work: I used this company to redo the insulation in my attic.
