They were very nice but we ended up doing most of the work ourselves because of money and time restraints. The quote was very competitive but we chose to do it ourselves. They were polite and professional and they gave us recommendations. We would have felt comfortable with them doing the work had we hired them.
Description of Work: Tubaugh Remodeling gave us a quote for a kitchen remodel. We took it down to the studs and replaced the cabinets, flooring, countertops, appliances and everything.

They did a great job, it was beautiful. They did plumbing, electric, painting, flooring, tiling, and drywall. They came when they said they would and stayed all day. They put in a glass door for the shower. They put glass on the rest of the wall too. They put tile on the shower, floor, and ceiling. They put in new fixtures for us.
Description of Work: They remodeled a bathroom.

Overall it was an excellent job. Bruce and crew were easy to work with. They listened to what we wanted and had excellent ideas. They do a very high quality job with expertise in all aspects needed. Bruce even did a custom built cabinet in the main bath, floor to ceiling, which turned out looking like a very high quality built in. The tile work is a good as any I have seen. The stain on the oak doors matched the other wood work beautifully. They are hard workers and concerned about the customer. We have been bery pleased and will use them again.
Description of Work: Bruce and crew completely remodeled two bathrooms including ceramic tile on tub and shower surrounds, as well as ceramic tile floors, new tubs, counters, sinks, toilets, hardware, lights, drywall, ceilings. They partially remodeled one half bath. They replaced all interior doors with 6 panel oak doors and stained to match color of other woodwork. This totaled 10 room doors and 6 sliding closet doors.

We lost electrical power to our office, spare bedroom, and basement on Friday, Oct. 9th. We had had an excellent experience with Tubaugh Remoding in 2007 when they did some renovation for us. Knowing they also did home repair, we called them Friday morning. Bruce Tubaugh answered right away and said he would be at our home in about an hour. True to his word, he and Justin arrived on time, traced the problem to its source and had it repaired within an hour of arrival. Once again the expertise of Bruce Tubaugh and his company saved us from a lot of frustration.
Description of Work: Traced an electrical outage to it source and repaired it, restoring power to 2 upstairs rooms and the basement of our home.

We had a sudden collapse of our old tile wall within our tub/shower. We have only one bathroom with a shower, and needed advice and repair quickly. I called several remodelers and tile specialists that came highly recommended or with whom I had previous experience. One came relatively quickly to take a look, and all would have required prolonged waits before work could start, or even before evaluation could be accomplished. I found Tubaugh's information on line, and Bruce came over within a few hours to evaluate the situation and give me options. It became evident that my 1960 bathroom really was in need of complete replacement to do the job right. This was not a surprise to me, but an expense I had not planned on immediately. Bruce gave me very good information, with no suggestion or pressure to sign a contract before I had time to contemplate my options or get second opinions. Once we decided to go with Tubaugh, they started within a few days. Throughout the entire process, Bruce and was extremely helpful in assisting me in the many decisions that were needed. While I was free to use and vendors or materials I chose, the businesses he suggested for tile, bathroom fixtures, and countertops were great to deal with. The rather complicated process was simplified with his calm, sound, assistance. Tubaugh Remodeling ia a small, family business. All of the workers that came into my home were friendly, polite, and respectful of my property. They left the house cleaner than when they came in, including the garage, which they used for some tile and other material preparation. They were very careful with my indoor animals, and I had no concerns with having them working in the house when we were not home. The work is high quality, and when I have had concerns, adjustments were made right away. I had subsequently had them replace a medicine cabinet and fan an our half bath, replace a kitchen range hood, and install lighting over my basement stairs. Often it is not known how complicated these replacements will be until they tear out the old appliances. Tubaugh remodeling has no problem doing whatever needs done to tackle unforeseen problems, and to do the job right whatever comes up. Since they do all of their own work- plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, tile, painting, etc.- I dealt with the people doing the job, and things moved smoothly and quickly without the need for other contractors to come in.
Description of Work: Full bathroom was completely gutted and then replaced. Work included tile floor, quartz counter with under-mount sink, toilet replacement; custom built window shutter; custom built cabinet, large custom designed shower; rebuilt linen closet; lighting and fan; large medicine cabinet installation, all fixture replacement and painting. We have subsequently used Tubaugh Remodeling on 6/4/09 for replacement of a range hood, stair lighting installation, a second bathroom ceiling fan and medicine cabinet and lighting replacement.

The guys on Bruce Tubaugh's crews, Mike, Justin, Steve and Mitch, are truly masters of all trades: plumbing, wiring, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting! They started when promised and stuck with the job until they finished, pausing only for weekends and to accommodate our own schedule. They could not have been more considerate of my wife and me, and even in our relatively small house, we never felt that their presence was intrusive. Even with the potential messiness of the work, there was never dust or dirt remaining. They cleaned up daily--better than we ourselves would have. It took a small leap of faith to accept Tubaugh's terms, which instead of a fixed estimate for the total job, specified $53 per man-hour plus materials, with only an outer limit on total man-hours. But we were ultimately glad that we took that leap. Bruce's approach meant, for example, that when mold turned up behind our old tub tile surround (which had seemed perfectly sound), this development did not necessitate a whole new estimate. These guys knew exactly what to do and dealt with the situation correctly and efficiently without missing a beat. This approach also meant they could easily accommodate small changes we wanted, such as installing a ceiling vent in half-bath, where there had not been one. Their tile work is a thing of beauty, and there's really nothing we can think of that they could have done better.
Description of Work: Remodeled two bathrooms. Main bath: Completely gutted room, including removal of all walls, flooring, sub flooring, ceiling. Cut out and treated areas behind old tub fixtures and tub surround where mold had developed. Replaced tub and all plumbing fixtures, vanity lights, towel bars. Replaced old flush-mounted medicine cabinet with recessed cabinet, which required moving plumbing vent pipe. Installed new high-efficiency ceiling vent fan and proper vent fan pipe, moved light and fan switches. Installed new light switch and outlet for vanity. Installed two new can lights. Installed ceramic tile flooring and floor molding, total tile tub surround, including ceiling over tub. Installed new vanity and cultured-marble vanity top. Replaced and painted walls and ceiling. Half bath: Replaced existing flooring with ceramic tile flooring. Replaced medicine cabinet. Replaced vanity with new vanity and cultured-marble top. Installed new vent fan with separate switch and new electrical outlet near medicine cabinet. Repainted walls.

I read such wonderful reviews about this guy's work ethic and craftsmanship that I emailed to request an estimate. Because he had work scheduled in our area the next day, the company quickly arranged to have him come out. I am sure that he does great work, but we were not impressed with the "estimate" process and felt the price he quoted us was way too high (based on talking with friends and family who've had similar, high-quality work done). He walked up the stairs, looked at our tiny bathroom and declared that it would cost $20k. This is before he asked us any questions about what kind of finishes and materials we had in mind or knowing if we have a mold issue to address (we don't have any evidence to that effect), etc. I asked him if he could break down the kind of services that would be required to renovate the bathroom and he said "I am not going to talk you through it step by step. You'll just have to trust your contractor." I was requesting a basic run-down of what we would be getting for our $20k (a significant investment) like "it will probably take 1 day to demo at a rate of x...2 days to put up new drywall if there is mold issue...tiling should cost you about...." I thought he would get back to us with some basic accounting on these things but he said he doesn't do that. I am glad everyone who has provided reports is happy with his work and that they are comfortable with what they paid, but I think it is reasonable for a homeowner to understand what a contractor is including when he quotes a price.
Description of Work: Received an estimate.

Response from Tubaugh Remodeling LLC
I VISITED THE ABOVE POTENTIAL CUSTOMER WHO WAS INTERESTED IN A BATHROOM REMODEL. THE CUSTOMER WAS NOT AT ALL SURE WHAT WORK NEEDED TO BE DONE OR HAD NOT RESEARCHED YET THE MATERIALS THEY WANTED TO USE FOR THEIR BATHROOM REMODEL. JUST BY LOOKING AT THE BATHROOM I COULD TELL THAT EXTENSIVE WORK WOULD BE NEEDED, THERE WAS NO VISIBLE WORKING EXHAUST FAN AND SPOTS OF MOLD WERE EVIDENT. I HAVE BEEN IN THIS BUSINESS FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND HAVE DONE NUMEROUS JOBS OF THIS NATURE. JUST IN CONVERSATION I EXPLAINED THAT A HIGH-END FIGURE COULD REACH AS HIGH AS $20,000. ALL THIS WOULD DEPEND ON WHAT TYPE OF MATERIALS THEY WOULD WANT TO USE AND THE QUALITY OF THE MATERIALS. I SUGGESTED THAT THEY VISIT HAMILTON PARKER, CARR SUPPLY AND OTHER LOCATIONS TO GET IDEAS ON THE MATERIALS TO BE USED TO REMODEL THEIR BATHROOM (ON RECEIPT OF THESE ESTIMATES I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE THEM A MORE CONCRETE FIGURE ON THE COST INVOLVED). THEY DID NOT INDICATE THAT THEY WANTED ME TO SEND THEM A WRITTEN QUOTE WHICH IS USUALLY THE NEXT STEP AFTER A VISIT TO SUPPLY HOUSES BUT DID INDICATE THAT THEY MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN A BUILT IN BOOK SHELF. I USUALLY GET QUOTES FROM BOTH CARR SUPPLY AND HAMILTON PARKER WHEN A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER VISITS THEIR SHOWROOMS; TO DATE I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED THIS FOR THIS CUSTOMER SO I ASSUMED THAT THEY HAD DECIDED TO EITHER GO WITH ANOTHER CONTRACTOR OR FORGO THE REMODEL FOR NOW. IF THEY HAD ASKED FOR A BREAKDOWN OF COST AFTER WE WERE IN RECEIPT OF ESTIMATES ON MATERIALS I COULD MOST CERTAINLY HAVE DONE SO BUT AS I HAVE INDICATED I HAD NO MORE CONTACT WITH THIS CUSTOMER AFTER THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT. THE NEXT MOVE WAS THEIRS AS I AM NOT A PUSHY CONTRACTOR. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY MISCOMMUNICATION REGARDING THIS INCIDENT. TUBAUGH REMODELING STANDS FAST BY OUR WORK RECORD AND EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. SINCERELY BRUCE E. TUBAUGH OWNER

Called Bruce to get an estimate. He returned my call promptly and was very professional. When asked when I wanted the work done, he was honest and told me that he would not be able to perform the work in the time frame I wanted. Considering his professionalism and honesty, I would definitely consider calling him again for another job.

It turned out to be more than I wanted. I was going to have to re-do the whole floor this way so I made the executive decision to go another way. They were responsive, great, easy to work with, very professional, everything was wonderful with them but I ended up going another route. They were very professional, they came out when the said they would, and they were very good about getting back with me. I was very pleased with the interaction I had with them.
Description of Work: They were going to do a total tear out of the kitchen starting all over again with a different blueprint. They came out, did some measurements, we talked about what I wanted and he emailed me some floor plans.

We purchased a new slide-in gas range expecting that they were all the same, but when the delivery men tried to install it, it would not go all the way in because the back hit up against the gas line. They hooked it up so we could use it, but it stood about 6 inches out from the counter. Bruce Tubaugh and his crew had finished a major renovation for us in 2007 so we were confident he could make it work and we were right. We called him and he came out the next day to check on what was needed. Within a few days, his crews had moved the gas line and electrical outlet back into the wall and slid the stove in; created and installed a piece of matching counter top to fill a one inch gap from the back of the stove top to the counter top; installed a new range hood and spackled and painted a section of the wall that the new range hood did not cover. We are convinced that Bruce Tubaugh and his crews can do anything. They performed this smaller job in the same meticulous, efficient, capable way they did our major renovation a year ago. It gives us such a sense of security to know that we can call them when these kinds of things happen and know they can fix it.
Description of Work: Installed the new slide-in kitchen gas range and range hood we had purchased, but first they had to relocate the gas line and the electric outlet so the stove could be installed correctly. Also had to create/install a matching piece to the counter top to fill in a gap between the stove and the wall and spackled and painted an area on the wall that had been covered by the old range hood but was now exposed.

Bruce and his crew consisting of Mike, Steve and Justin, provided exceptional service. They were all consummate craftsman, who were attentive to detail, were highly knowledgeable about all aspects of the work, and took great pride in their work. They also made the project highly enjoyable as I felt that the homeowner and they were working as a team in terms of designing the final product. Bruce's cabinetry work was superb, as was the tiling expertise of Steve and Mike. I very much appreciated their creativity and artistry in addition to their craftsmanship. The completed project is an aesthetic delight and looks and works better than I could have imagined!

Cement floor, block walls, & exterior door were constructed in the lower area. A gas furnace & a/c was installed. The upper level of the addition was an extension of the kitchen combined with dining/sunroom, a covered deck, & 2 stairways to the deck. The addition was framed roof & siding applied, & installed in the addition. The outside existing kitchen wall was removed and a header was installed to provide support where the wall had been. The result was a dramatic, spectacular improvement. We could not have imagined a better result. We met with Bruce Tubaugh and shared vision for the kitchen/dining area, and Bruce returned a couple of days later with a tentative plan. Using a computer program, we were able to take a virtual tour, opening cabinet doors and making instant changes.
Description of Work: Our 1960's kitchen was totally gutted and brought into style. The wall separating the dining room and kitchen was removed and in it's place are more cabinets, an eating granite bar, and pendant lights. The soffits were removed to make way for more cabinet space, and the kitchen design was updated to have no wasted space and included corner sink. Can lights with dimmer switches were installed and beautiful wood floors replaced linoleum and carpet in the kitchen/dining room area extended to powder room hallways, and stairs. Cherry Omega cabinets with pull out shelves, spice rack, cookie sheet divided cabinet, and pantry cabinet were a dramatic improvement to the area. A stainless steel sink and stainless appliances blended perfectly with the coloring of the granite countertop and tumble stone backdrop. An added benefit was having filtered water system installed in the basement and attached to a separate sink spigot as well as cold water in ice make to fridge.

Initially Mr. Tubaugh was to install oak hardwood flooring in the dining room and hall, repair water spots in the drywall, replace woodwork with oak and install a chandelier. When they removed the carpeting the underfloor had been soaked in spots by cat urine. They removed all evidence (odor) before laying the flooring. Instead of just repairing the drywall, they removed it and insulated the walls before replacing it. With the added insulation and moving the cold air register up on the wall, our heating and cooling is much more efficient. The stairs to the hallway were oak but had been covered by carpeting for 39 years. They replaced the risers and refinished the tops so you would never know it. As work progressed, the project snowballed to include all the additional renovation in the upstairs bedrooms. Mr. Tubaugh is a friendly, highly ethical master craftsman with a matching crew. Their work is near perfection with extra touches that take it beyond the ordinary.
Description of Work: Installed oak hardwood flooring in the dining room and upstairs hallway to bedrooms. Replaced all baseboards, window trim, interior doors and closet doors on the ground floor and upstairs bedrooms with oak. Refinished the oak stairs to match the new oak flooring beautifully. In process of repairing water damage to 2 outer walls in dining room it was discovered there was little or no insulation, so they insulated the walls before replacing the drywall. Moved register for cold air duct from floor in dining room to wall mount near ceiling. Installed a chandelier in dining room, replaced hallway light and all closet lights. Replaced all shelf/hanger units in closets with shelf and metal rod. Replaced carpeting in the upstairs bedrooms. Repaired a bad spot in the stippled ceiling in the master bedroom. Painted walls and ceilings in all three bedrooms and the dining room. Installed new exterior door and storm door.

Bruce Tubaugh responded promptly to our initial call regarding our kitchen and bath remodel and spent a great deal of time with us planning the project. He made numerous helpful suggestions from a design standpoint and advised us of areas where we could save money. Overall, the project went very smoothly. Bruce and his employees are skilled craftsmen who pay meticulous attention to detail. They are all professional, responsible, and courteous. They were very accommodating about adding on new jobs as the need occurred to us, e.g., putting in a new doorbell, replacing sliding glass doors, etc. Bruce was always readily available by phone and always concerned that we were satisfied with each phase of the project. We are extremely pleased with the work performed by Bruce and his team and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Complete demolition and remodeling of kitchen and adjoining laundry room and half bath, and master bathroom. Our experience with Bruce Tubaugh has spoiled us for anyone else. He was very prompt in returning our call and soon came to look over the job and gave us an approximate start date. Once they began the work, Mr. Tubaugh and/or some of his crew were here early every weekday and worked all day except for a short lunch break. They took great pains to keep any mess to a minimum and cleaned up the area every evening before they left. We were kept involved throughout the whole process and, in many cases, Mr. Tubaugh knew what we wanted better then we did. Mr. Tubaugh is a master craftsman with a crew of highly skilled, competent workers. They are meticulous in their work and add the little touches that take the finished product from ordinary to special. We found them to be honest, friendly, hard working, and pleasant to be around. We have Mr. Tubaugh's telephone number on speed dial for any future remodeling/repair.
Description of Work: Bruce Tubaugh and his workers totally redid our tiny (8 x 5 ft.) master bath in our 39-year old home. After completely gutting the room, they custom built a shower in ceramic tile that is a work of art, while at the same time incorporating all the safety features necessary for two senior citizens. They converted the wall-mounted toilet to a floor-mounted toilet and installed a pedestal sink and medicine cabinet. They totally reinforced the floor area and then laid a new ceramic tile floor. They completed the work by painting the drywall that had been replaced or repaired. In gutting the room they discovered approximately another 10 inches more to the room that had been boxed in by the original builder. With the added space and new fixtures, our bathroom looks much bigger.

We can't speak highly enough of Bruce. He's been the very best contractor we've ever used, and he owned this home for 27 years! I truly appreciated his very fast return of phone calls.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of 2 bathrooms. Installed cultured marble counters, cultured marble shower, floor tiles, new shower doors, tub. We didn't know hot bad the sub flooring had become. Fortunately the toilet was over a floor joist or we were told it would have landed in the basement (oh my!). Bruce Tubaugh is very honest and direct. He doesn't subcontract. His own men do all the work. He answers phone calls promptly. Bruce was trustworthy and extremely knowledgeable. We really appreciate his suggestions.

Seemed to be very knowledgeable in kitchen remodeling and hands on. Did not hire them to do the work because they charge an hourly rate vs a set rate and it seemed like it would be a lot more expensive.
Description of Work: Got an estimate for kitchen remodel.
