Just Basements

The work was finished 9 months ago, but I didn’t want to write a review until I had lived with it for a while. Our house was a new-build in 2006 and if there’s one thing I learned from that, it’s that construction issues (if any) usually don’t start revealing themselves until several months after construction is complete. 9 months later, I can now say with confidence that Just Basements did a phenomenal job finishing our basement. From the beginning: I spent 8 months researching the best way to get my basement finished. I checked Angie’s List, went to home shows, and talked to everyone I could with experience in this area. In the end, I obtained 13 different quotes for the project - including the big pre-fab panel basement finishers, remodeling companies and even a few mom-and-pop shops. I narrowed it down to Just Basements and one other company. However, negotiations with the other company broke down because they wanted me to sign a ridiculous contract that was clearly drafted to protect the builder and “disadvantage” (I would substitute another word, but don’t want to offend anyone) the consumer. The owner was incredulous that I wanted to re-write some of the oppressive terms and after reading some of my proposed changes, he said “Mr. Henley, I think we just need to go our separate ways because I honestly don’t think we can make you happy.” I had never been fired as a prospective customer before, but it turned out to be a very good thing. Just Basements was vastly easier to deal with. Their contract was plain and straight forward - it stated everything they were going to do with extreme detail, and clearly delineated the items that I needed to provide. More importantly, they offered a very fair payment schedule (predicated upon completion of certain stages) with a final payment of 25% upon completion of the entire project and my satisfaction with it. Everyone else I talked to wanted nearly the entire project paid for before it was done, and left tiny amounts due upon final completion. I wasn’t about to pay for things before they were done; and I didn’t want the final payment to be so small that the contractor might be inspired to walk away without finishing the project to my satisfaction. They started construction Oct. 2 and finished before Christmas (just like they said they would). Everyone who worked for Just Basements was punctual, professional and clearly have been doing this for a long time. Rob runs the show, Joe is the supervisor on site, and everyone who worked on the project (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, dry-wall guys, HVAC guys, & painters) was just outstanding. I obsess about details and I’m fairly certain that I was probably the most annoying client Just Basements has ever had in terms of constant requests for information. It’s no exaggeration to say that I probably sent Rob 5 emails a day for two months asking questions and providing feedback. Day or night, weekday or weekend, Rob unfailingly responded to every single email promptly and courteously. As a result, I always knew the status, what had already happened and what was going to happen next. There was no guesswork and no surprises. Having lived with our finished basement for 9 months, I could not be happier; and Just Basements is one of the best vendors I’ve ever hired for anything.

Overall, we had a positive experience with Just Basements. From a sales perspective, the salesperson was accurate with their description of the process/costs that we could anticipate seeing along the way. The only negative aspect of the process was the plumbing that was performed. The quality of work was not up to par with the rest of the process (A+ work on all other aspects of the finishing - framing was extremely well done, and creative in the space provided). Since our project was completed, Just Basements has brought in a new plumber. We needed to have the toilet re-sealed in the new bathroom, I had a response the same day - plumber was out the next day to fix the issue with no extra cost/hassle.

The interaction with them has been good. They are professional. They have been fine.

They did an excellent job and the cleanup (which I am very finicky about) was absolutely superb. They were recommended to me by my son Barron Henley whose very large lower level they finished and he is much more finicky than I. I have already recommended them to one of my neighbors for garage finishing. It is hard to find good contractors in today's world and Just Basements is definitely beyond good.

They were very professional. The price was good. They did excellent work. They installed track lighting and speakers as well. They installed ceramic flooring in my kitchen and in the bathroom that they remodeled. I would definitely recommend Just Basements to anyone.

Rob Adams and his crew were great to work with. He returned my calls immediately, sent someone for an estimate quickly, and began the work on my requested date. The job took a little longer than I anticipated because they had a difficult time matching the baseboards that were already in the basement, but they took the time to find exactly the right match and the end result was great. All of his team members were courteous, friendly and took care not to leave a mess.

It was fabulous quality work. The workers were considerate and stayed on schedule. They did frame work, drywall , insulation, electric, lighting, plumbing, put in two glass block windows, and then finished with painting. We are very pleased with the work. We wish we would have done this a long time ago. We high recommend this company.

I've had several contractors do work for me over the years and I've never had an experience like this before. They were easy to work with, they were polite and they did great work. They worked quickly and did a great job. I'm thrilled with their work and I would highly recommend them.

Rob & his crew were very prompt & polite. We felt very comfortable while they were here working The crew kept us informed & helped us make some decisions that we would not have thought of ourselves It took about 7 weeks to complete the job. I would recommend them to my friends, family & neighbors

They did a super job. Everything was cleaned up immaculately. Rob was very easy to work with. He showed up for work on time each and every day.

It went very well from start to finish. They got in touch with us right away and gave us a rough estimate over the phone which matched other companies' in person estimates. On the scheduled work date, they showed up and got right to work. They worked quickly and did not make a mess at all. When the work was completed, they cleaned up after themselves. Our ceiling looks perfect.

We moved into a home with a finished basement but had concerns about water behind drywall. We got quotes from several companies for demolition of existing structure and refinishing the basement after a French drain was installed and stone walls were water-proofed. We were impressed with the professionalism and price of JUST BASEMENTS and opted to use their company. JUST BASEMENTS started promptly and worked diligently. They carefully saved the materials they could (shelving, bathroom fixtures and doors) and communicated clearly about the process. We were amazed by the amount of mold and mildew that existed behind the drywall, and due to severe family allergies and asthma, opted not to move ahead with the plan of putting drywall back up (we want to be able to see the walls so that if mold/mildew return, we can rectify situation immediately). Rob Adams from JUST BASEMENTS was fair and reasonable with us when we explained our situation and concerns. We were very happy with this company and the work they performed and are confident that if we had re-drywalled the basement, they would have done an excellent job. I would use this company again and would recommend them to a friend.

Everyone was great to work with, and they responded super fast to any questions or issues. The quality of work is great, too. I would recommend them to anyone!

The work was excellent, but we went for the flexibility discount, which gave them more time to finish our basement, I don't think the price cut was worth the hassle of the extra 4 weeks of having the basement worked on. It took a total of 3 months, that's with us doing the painting and carpeting. The work is all great and I loved how it turned out, but it took a long time with the flexible schedule.

I was very impressed with the organization and response of the main people (Rob and Joe). Whenever I had an issue, they were immediately available to answer/solve the problem. Working with sub contractors can be a pain-and we did have a few issues with them, but Rob and Joe had a good handle on them. I was also impressed with the salesperson's presentation with pictures and diagrams. Other companies were not even close in comparison to cost or presentation. Also, we left on vacation for a week during their work, and they were extremely flexible and understanding with us and did not want workers in our house while we were gone. I was thankful for that. The "B" given in punctuality was for the sub contractors, not Rob and Joe. We had an issue with the painters mainly. They called at 7:30 AM to find out the color we wanted (after Joe had told them), woke up my 6 month, and then didn't arrive until 3:30 PM. Joe and Rob took care of it though.

The project went well. We were pleased with the quality of the work performed.

They were very nice and prompt for the estimate, and within a week produced a very detailed proposal with all the options priced separately. However, they were about $3000 more expensive than the cheapest estimate I received, for essentially the same work, and there was no clear advantage to using them based on prior Angie's List reviews. They were however much cheaper than the con artists who tried to sell us "basement finishing systems" for $20,000 or more. If not for the other estimate, I would've chosen Just Basements.
