The floors look beautiful! I have received so many compliments! They were neat, prompt and completed the job in a timely manner. I have used Gerwitz in the past and had a great experience in the past. He works around your schedule in the evening or weekends to provide a quote. In addition, he adjusted his schedule to complete the job. I would highly recommend!

OVerall it was well. They completed the job in the tome they stated. Floors are beautiful.

The C I gave John was because he needs to explain the options available to his customers more. We actually would have spent more had we known what some of the options and procedures were but he is a wonderful honest person who does very good work for a good price.

They were fast, efficient (took about 5 days total, which he estimated it would take) and did a good job of cleaning up all the dust. The owner and workers were all courteous, friendly and answered all of the question I had with no trouble. There was just one day when they showed up later than they said and did not call to let me know (a minor inconvenience). All in all, they did a really nice job. There are a few spots that are not perfect however, and in very visible areas, but we can live with that.

Based on the reviews here, I contacted this company to give me an estimate on refinishing my floor. Spoke to John (owner, I presume) and scheduled an appointment for last Wednesday at 6 PM to come out and give me an estimate on my project. Since I have dealt with many contractors, I know many of them just don’t show up and I end up wasting my time waiting for them. So I called John on Tuesday (a day before the appt.) to confirm. Couldn’t get hold of him, so I left him a detailed voicemail to call me back and confirm our appt. He never did. The next day (day of the appt.), I called again in the afternoon to make sure he was coming. This time I spoke to him and he confirmed the appt. for 6 PM. At around 5:50 PM he called and left me a voicemail that he was stuck at his previous job and couldn’t make it. Though I appreciated the call, but canceling 10 min. prior to appt. wasn’t too professional. In his message he also mentioned that he could come on Thursday or Friday at the same time, if I was available. Upon hearing his message, I called him back right away. Again no luck, so I left him a detailed message indicating that I could meet him on Thursday at 6 PM. He never called back. So, I called again on Thursday afternoon to check if he was coming or not. No luck again, so I left him a voicemail again. Today is Monday afternoon and I am still waiting to hear back from him. This is as bad of a service as you can get, in my opinion. WILL NEVER HIRE HIM!

John did a wonderful job very reasonably. He is the nicest man in the world and was very thorough and tried to keep things clean.

John and his crew did a fantastic job. The floors are like new and the job was done on time and within budget.

Awesome. They did an incredible job and were spot-on their estimated finish time. They did a great job coming into and going out of the house--very little debris and dust. Guys were very nice. Only hiccup-one of their trucks broke down the day of the refinishing and I had to call to find out where they were. Once they explained, they gave me an ETA and were right on the rest of the time.

John and his crew were professional, letting us know what to expect each step of the way. The results were impressive.

They did it while we were on vacation, and it was perfect. They are excellent. The entire staff is extremely professional. They clean up everything as they go. They do beautiful work. This is the third time that we have used them. I am very happy with them. Their price is very competitive.

The estimate we received from Gerwitz was the lowest of the three companies we looked at. However, Gerwitz was the only one who bothered to measure every closet. He arrived on time or early every day to perform work, and completed the job in exactly the time estimated. The floors came out far better than we had ever expected. He was able to remove some very deep scratches in one bedroom that other companies had said would need replacing during the estimate phase. I often left the house while work was being performed, and they left the house in great shape every day before leaving. I would highly recommend Gerwitz to anyone looking to refinish hardwood floors.

John Gerwitz is an ARTIST! We cannot say enough about the craftsmanship and professionalism he demonstrated. We own a house built in the 1890's. The first floor was a single-layer oak (original to the house). It was in okay shape-but a few of the floorboards needed to be replaced and the wood was thin from being refinished over time. Instead of another re-finish job, we elected to get 400 sq. ft of oak installed overtop of the original floors. We are so glad we did! John Gerwitz laid the floors and finished the floors in place. The result is amazing. John was a reasonable price. We got quotes from 4 other companies, all of which only could offer us pre-finished floors for a similar price. We really wanted to have the floors sanded and stained in place and John was the best deal.

1) John was initially difficult to reach, I did have to phone him several times before talking with him. 2) John and crew did an amazing job of minimizing the dust impact. My wife was amazed by how little dusting she had to do afterward. 3) John's use of the Bona topcoat in a satin finish is a great choice. I've seen many re-finished hardwood floors with a glossy finish, and when he first laid out the satin I was a little suspicious. However, when it fully dries the satin finish appears much warmer, and gives a better glow to the stain underneath. 4) John and crew use extremely effective sanding techniques. Of the 430 sq ft + that they covered, I've noticed only one "dip." Their care on the outer edges meant that I did not have to put down shoe molding at the floor/base molding interface. In fact, I took a look at the garbage that they discarded after sanding on the first day and noticed mounds of sanding disks and belts; they didn't cut corners to save time. 5) I did have two spots that required additional attention and repair. Unfortunately John's crew over-relied on fillers to perform the repairs. In one spot it would have been more appropriate to craft a dutchman out of fresh wood to perform the repair.

They did a terrific job and we are very pleased. They were informative about when they would be back to put on another coat. They were reliable and very good. They knew what to do and how to do it.

I cannot say enough good things about John and his company. Having refinished floors myself, I know how tough and exacting the job can be (which is why I hired someone this time). John came on recommendation from numerous people, and his rating on Angie's List just sealed the deal. John was always on time, very understanding of my curiosity and somewhat odd schedule, and very clean. I cannot stress how amazing the floors in our living room look. Both his demeanor and work are top-notch professional.

It was great. The owner came out and gave me a quote and it ended up being exactly right. They were very clean and I had very little dust. The night of the first day they were here he waited for me to get home and put several different colors of stains on the floor, so that I could see them and pick the one I wanted. They finished when they said they were going to and left fans on so the floors would dry faster. The floors look fabulous.

John came to give an estimate for the job and said he could come out the following week which was the only time I could take off from work. He fixed the edge of the floors where there's a step-down to another level, replaced the damaged wood and made it match my floors perfectly. Could not tell it was a replacement. The job was completed within 4 days. It's so beautiful with the rich color and soft finish; beyond what I had expected!! John went out of his way to get the job completed in a short time even though he had full schedule. I will be hiring him again to do two more rooms. He deserves a Page of Happiness!!!

They came to the house Monday through Friday (approx 8:30 a.m.) and left in the afternoon. Each night we were able to walk on the floors and sleep in the house - smell not obnoxious. John was attentive and cares about his jobs. Would use him again without a question.

Floors turned out beautiful. Due to condition of floors, we were unsure how well they could be restored. Only a few really small discolored areas couldn't be restored 100%, but the rest of it looks great. Company was very clean (very little dust from sanding), professional, and easy to work with.

This company had 8, A ratings so I have been calling them for a week and a half. I have never had a return call in all this time. I have called 3 times and last time left the message that I would not be calling again. I think that a grade of A is misplaced.
