Dan Tuckpoint Turner

My husband met Dan Turner, DBA Isaiah Project, Project Nehemiah, Tuckpoint Turner at a local home fair. Dan told us that if we hired him, he would be training young people as masons and that the job would be tax deductible. We agreed that there would be no timeline because this was a training situation. We did not realize that the job would last two months. We did not realize huge the mess that would be created. We did not realize that our tax deductible donation would be around $300. We did not realize that the workers would be unsupervised. We did not realize our landscape would be ruined. We did not realize that after he finished, Turner would not answer phone calls. We were quoted about $6,500. The job did grow when they found no footers under half the porch. They gave us a $200 (or $250) credit for the ruined landscape. We were leaving when Turner came for the final check and it was my mistake to pay the bill immediately. The job cost $8,7600 - we paid for the tile for the top of the porch out of pocket. We have seen other jobs come and go in the neighborhood that weren't total nightmares. Many of our neighbors had Turner quote their jobs, but after seeing what was done at our house, they hired other people. Turner preferred to talk with my husband because his opinion seemed to be better than mine. After the first rain, there was standing water on the porch surface, I called Turner. He would not answer the phone. I called every day for 10 days and he would not answer the phone. He says his work is guaranteed, but we'd have to sue him to get him to honor that. First check: June 12, 2012 $3,230 - Last check: Aug 17, 2013 $5,530 He did send us a nice Christmas card. I would NOT recommend this service provider. Run! Run away!

Work was started then stopped. Would have appreciated a call to advise. I was worried as I had paid half down. Was supposed to take a week and a half but probably took twice that long with starts and stops. The work was completed and i was very happy with the end result.

The job was a disaster. The mortar did not match our house - our original mortar is the usual sandy/buff color. he placed mortar that is white, or blue-gray, in so many visible spots that we have to hire someone else to drill them out and replace them. It might be a hidden blessing that he stopped coming, and would not return our calls, before he started on our front porch. we had to sue him for non-performance in small claims court. we won, but of course we have been unable to recover what he owes us.
