THe work was done in one day but I was a little disappointed in the results. My plants did not seem to grow better from the compost he added to my soil. He said the lilies and other plants would grow much better in better soil. More flowers would appear. I am hoping that i s the case for next blooming season.
Description of Work: After I purchased an Angies list Deal, I received a phone call from Wes to schedule an appointment. He arrived promptly and gave me a plan after we discussed my needs. He drew up a proposal and mailed it to me.The work will be done in the spring according to his plan so I can't reply yet about the work. But he is very professional and I am sure my work will be done in a timely manner.

The appointment went very well. I received a drawing of what the landscaping would look like. I was given suggestions on what products to use for my situation and was very satisfied with the outcome. I haven't had any work done yet, but might use them in the future. I would definitely recommend Marvin's Garden for landscaping needs. Very professional and everything was explained to me and my questions answered.

did not choose to use Marvin's for our landscaping even though we had Angies List Special deal for "professional landscaping design". Was a nice young man but he made landscaping "design" - list of plants- on pad of paper, with no costs, or details or analysis of our area. Not our ideal of a professional bid and definitely not worth the "special deal" cost. We went out to see their facility in Milford and met with such a lack of assistance, or any interest to help us, to see any of their available plants, that this confirmed our hesitation to use them for our project. This was over 2 years ago (not really sure of month in 2011) so we do not know what they are like now.
Description of Work: did not use since bid was not professionally done( given to us as notes written on yellow legal pad paper) or contacted us in a timely manner

Scheduled for a Friday work day to install two Flow Wells. Crew didn't show up and never received a call from the supervisor that a re-schedule was necessary. I called him the next day, Saturday, and we rescheduled for the following week. They came as promised this time, but when I returned home at the end of the work day, I noticed that the job was barely half-finished. The ground was torn up in the two agreed-upon locations; only one Flow Well was partially inserted into the ground. It appeared at first sight that the crew either arrived late, or had a heck of a time with the ground preparation. I do not carry a cell phone, but I am easily reached at my land line. There, I retrieved a message from the supervisor stating that the crew experienced a very hard ground situation. He reported that the hydraulically operated auger machine wasn't up to the job and that it was unfeasible to continue with the job under the current contract. I was given the choice to either terminate the project with a full refund, and with the Landscaper taking back all materials (Flow Wells), restoring the grade and seeding the ground. Or, Marvin's would continue with the twin Flow Well installation, but at approximately double the original estimate. Fortunately, the supervisor was kind enough to offer a third solution, which was to finish the installation of the one Flow Well at no further charge. This is what was done, and while I have not experienced a test of the drainage capacity of the Flow Well installation, what will be, will be. I am thankful that they seeded the ground before leaving. I had a question about one detail at the end of the project. At first glance, it appeared that no Flow Well had been installed after all we had just gone through. An advertised grating for the Flow Well to be installed at ground level was missing. I had to probe the area for myself to know that the Flow Well had indeed been installed, since the supervisor didn't return repeated phone calls about the status of the finished project. In retrospect, it was an unfortunate experience for both of us. But in the end, everything turned out better than it could have, had there been other circumstances.
Description of Work: Installed one Flow Well (dry well) in a poor drainage area in the backyard.

We purchased a big deal for the service, and it was very nice. They haven't done the landscaping yet, we are still scheduling that. They were very nice and professional. He was very good, and the price was comparable to the other quotes that we had gotten. He listened to what we wanted, and he was here on time.

Bought the Angie's List Big Deal and instead of any drawings we just received a written price proposal. We were going to have them do the work but changed our minds after only getting a price quote for the $75. Any other place gives you that for free. Will steer clear of Angie's List Big Deals in the future.

I never met (removed member name) the husband, who posted comments. Spent 4 hours with homeowner (removed member name) and provided exactly what she asked for, and did not require design as per our discussion. The type of work included weed control, boulder wall (which pictures were left as examples), honeysuckle removal, debris clean up, bubbling boulder and a small front yard planting which we discussed. (removed member name) knew that the estimates were a starting point to help her with budgeting and that designs would follow once they honed in on homeowner needs. We discussed the need for an additional appointment for detailed designs. We will be following up with the (removed member name) and are grateful for their feedback.

The service provided to me by Marvin's Organic Gardens turned out pretty well. The owner came out and was very young and high energy. He was a very knowledgeable kid. You could tell he had a sincere passion about his work. You could tell he loves what he does. He loves plants. I could have gotten the price a little cheaper, but you pay for what you get.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's Big Deal to get a complete design of the yard and spent a good couple of hours with me, walking through the yard. They did the work about a week after I purchased it. I only paid the initial price of the Big Deal to get the design written up. Actually, they're outside now, doing the extra work that they drew up. They put together three phases of the work and we're doing all three phases.

The vendor was upset about having to give away as much money as he did. Organic Gardens came out and honored the big deal. They did a good job. We liked the garden that they planned for us. It did not work out for us, because they did not have the plants on site that had been purposed for us. We ended up buying the plans and using up more than what the coupon covered. The man that came out did a good job at giving us the big picture of what our garden would look like. He did know what he was talking about. The only thing was; there was a big difference between what he told us and what we ended up with. I am sure it cost more because this is organic gardening. Because of their location and the nature of the type of gardening, we would not use them again.

The landscape designer (Wes) was great, very attentive to our needs and preferences. He drew up a very nice plan and included options we could look up on line and choose between. The workers were nice and the outcome looked very nice. At first. The work was done in the fall and apparently they did not do a very good job of removing the existing plants because now in spring and early summer, many of the old plants have been growing up around the new ones. I think they took out big stuff and then just covered the rest with landscape fabric and put mulch on top. We have continually had to keep pulling up day lilies and hosta and sedum that were part of the old landscaping. Although it still looks fairly nice, it is a lot more work for us than we thought it should be and I am not sure they spent as much time as I assumed they would (based on the cost) to clear out the old landscaping. Whatever they did was not effective. I think by next summer it will be all overgrown again. Too bad because Wes' plan was nice. They also kind of messed up the grade in front of the house so we are getting some water in the basement we didn't have before.

We are always grateful for feedback, and will use customers feedback to better serve future customers. We of course always prefer that customers give us an opportunity to amend a possible challenge in their landscape. We unfortunately were only made aware of this customers challenge when reviewing their recent grade and comments. We always happily correct any potential issue a customer may have so that we can build lasting relationships built on trust, integrity, receptivity and a passionate work ethic. Thank you again for your feedback, we appreciate your forthright observations.

Overall it was a very pleasant experience. The only down side was that we needed to reschedule the initial date of our meeting because of some scheduling issues on his end. However, this was fine with me. The gentleman was very pleasant and a good listener. He asked pertinent questions and the finished product looked excellent.
Description of Work: The gentleman interviewed me about my landscaping needs, and then drew up plans, including specific plantings, and gave me an estimate. He answered my questions fully and was very willing to work with me in terms of timelines; he was willing to think with me about breaking the job in to smaller, more manageable projects.

MOG's was fantastic start to finish! Wes came out to do the estimate and we knew right away he was the one for the job. He has an excitement for what he does that is just contagious! He was able to save our little oak tree in the front yard....it has doubled in size just one year later. The crew that was sent to do the work the day of were on time and respectful. Worked hard all day to get the job done and cleaned up very well! Everything went so great that we called Wes again this month for another estimate for more work. I would recommend them to all!

They arrived on time, they finished everything they were supposed to do, and they cleaned up their mess (there were a lot of shrubs, tree branches and honeysuckle to haul away). I am extremely pleased with my new yard.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal from Angie for a low maintenance landscape design. Wes came to the house exactly on schedule and we discussed possibilities for quite a while. Everything he said sounded good to me, and so he wrote up a proposal which I accepted. His crew started in the next week and were finished in about 3 days time. They removed overgrown shrubbery and replaced it with lovely new plantings. They trimmed branches from ornimental trees. They cut back huge amounts of honeysuckle in the back yard and cleaned up tall grasses and weeds gone wild. They evened out some water retaining low spots in the front yard and seeded over bare patches. They planted ground cover and many, many spring bulbs, and they mulched everywhere. Everyting looks much, much better.

Okay, I usually don’t submitted reviews (good or bad). But these days we are all looking to spend our money wisely…..hands-down using Marvin Gardens is one of the best investment I ever spent. My retaining wall was a disaster! So much so that when I looked around the neighborhood, I realized that it was bringing down everyone else's home values. :( I called three different vendors. Wes set up an on-site consultation within a few days. This was the first indicator that it would go well. Wes initial time-frame was within a week but I was traveling within a few days. I wanted him to stop-by before l left town….Wes adjusted his schedule. Well, he came out, walked around the area with me, and listened carefully to what I said I wanted repaired, replaced, or added. When I expressed concern that my retaining wall might be failing, he explained to me why it was. My second indicator of a sincere good guy….I anticipated replacing all the stones. Wes strongly advised re-using the current stones and offered to bring in additional stone (larger) from his supply – at no additional cost – to strengthen the wall. His suggestion was a significant cost savings. They started work the day they told me they would, and got the work done on time, on budget, and to my satisfaction. Each day they cleaned-up the work site….even did extra work by pruning trees & bushes, and placing mulch in the entire garden. They worked their butts off! The quality of the work was great and my neighbors are pleased as well. After the work was completed, Wes called to ensure we were pleased with the work before we ever received the final bill. Even offered to come back in the Spring to add dirt once the wall and planter settle over the winter. Wes called more times to check-in about this project than my kids call to check-in on me. Seriously I cannot rave about them enough. I never shared this with Wes until they completed the work….but the finally indicator of how Wes & his family are such Good & Sincere folks….just Google his name. Their dedication to community service and worldly action just show the measure of this family. And it penetrates throughout the company. Being relatively new to the area, this company provided one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor in this area.

Wes from Marvin's Organic Gardens strongly suggested that we wait until Fall for this project. This type of lawn restoration requires a fair amount of labor by the home owner in that we needed to water the lawn 30 minutes a day for 3 to 4 weeks. We did the watering and were rewarded with excellent seed germination. Wes from Marvin's suggested that we should not cut the grass nor rake the leaves as the grass would grow through the fallen leaves. He may be correct but we have Oak and Black Walnut trees that blanket our yard with leaves and we chose to blow the leaves off the grass - just seemed like the thing to do. We won't know how things will turn out until this spring but so far it looks like we have very healthy tall fescue grass. Note: there may be other landscapers who perform this type of lawn restoration but I don't know of any. Most landscaper would poison the yard with round-up, remove the old grass and then put down seed and straw. We really don't agree with that approach for numerous reasons.
Description of Work: Marvin's performed a lawn restoration on our front and back yards. We don't use a lawn service and our yard was overrun with weeds. Top soil and organic compost were spread out over the front and back yards (around 1/4 of an acre in total). Tall fescue grass seed was spread and then finished with straw. Additionally, we had a around 30 feet of lawn edging installed at the same time.
