Marvin's Organic Gardens

Great! They did everything I asked of them, and more! They're friendly, informative, hard working, and the work they do is fantastic. Marvin's Organic Gardens is the only landscaper I'll ever call.

They were here and did the job in two days. Love their work. Like that they cane in and used a lot of my greenery instead of suggesting to start from scratch.

Robbie was super-professional but still personable. He and his assistant arrived on time and asked for some details like whether I'd like the trunk and limbs hauled away or cut and stacked. They got straight to work, taking care of the honeysuckle I'd left crowding the pine trees they were taking down without a grumble. To work on the ash trees by the play set, they removed the aluminum slide, and replaced it when they were finished. It took them the better part of a day, and at the end, I had a nice stack of ash and pine over by the barn, and a nice, tidy, open space. Robbie came back a few days later to grind the two ash stumps, and they look great. I'd gladly recommend Marvin's Organic Gardens and Robbie for tree service!

In short, inspection went great, I had Robbie back to remove the trees and stumps, and would recommend him and do business with him and Marvin's Gardens again. This was my introduction to Angie's List ? I signed up specifically to find someone to help with these trees, which provided shade for my eight kids' play yard, but which were in worrisome shape. After a week or so of phone tag with Marvin's Gardens (at least half my fault ? eight kids, busy dad), Robbie scheduled an appointment to come out and take a look. Although he and Marvin's Gardens are local to Lebanon, he was familiar with the Hamilton area and had no trouble finding the place, arriving right when I expected him. It was a super-quick evaluation, as the trees were well beyond saving, and he offered to remove them for around $900. I asked about insurance, and he assured me that he's fully insured and performs much (or maybe all) of the tree work for the city of Lebanon. He noticed a couple of long-dead evergreens on the property and offered to remove them as well for an additional $100 ? a welcome deal. We chatted for a bit longer, since the initial job was really a five-minute conversation, and I found him very professional, knowledgeable, and personable. I'll review the tree removal separately, but SPOILERS ? it went great, a solid A.

I purchased this deal because I had some urgent landscape needs. However the company could not come out until late August. They had very limited times that they could come out. I contacted other landscaping companies while I waited for them to schedule me and the other companies were able to come out quickly and were able to meet me during times outside of work hours. I almost got the sense that the provider had taken on too many clients with the deal. My landscaping needs are just too urgent to wait. Its probably a better deal for someone who is just thinking of getting some work done and doesn't NEED to have it done immediately.

You will not get the lowest bid on a project from Marvin's Organic Gardens. In this case, you get more than what you pay for even with a higher price. If you want a truly professional job with no shortcuts taken, no corners cut, with extra steps taken that you won't even think of until you see the result, employ this group. The quality of the workmanship by Mel Patterson on the desk is amazing. The patio construction turned out to be more laborious than my wife and I anticipated. Leveling the backyard for the patio entailed bringing in 30-tons of gravel. During construction of the patio and the deck, my wife and I were allowed to make design alterations in order that the final product completely met our satisfaction. Six weeks after construction was completed, we're still amazed by the final result. Our next door neighbor even complimented us on the on-site behavior of every person involved on the project. That, in itself, is amazing. Rock Solid, a group within Marvin's Organic Gardens completed the paver patio construction. As with the deck construction by Patterson, the workmanship is superb. Our next phase will entail landscaping - again, we will consider using the services of no one other than Marvin's Gardens.

The workers and work performed were good. Unfortunately the rest was not. I originally purchased a deal for a complete landscape evaluation as we have recently moved into a 90 year old home with neglected yard work. Wes came out and we walked the property with Wes identifying some of our issues and offering suggestions. During our discussion, I pointed out the brickwork needing repair and was pleasantly surprised to learn they could handle that as well. Wes then wrote out a proposal separating the work into five sections. I booked with Wes on the spot for the brickwork and he said he would be in touch to schedule exact dates 2-3 weeks hence. Two weeks later, when I had not yet heard from Wes, I wrote to him to say I would be out of town during a certain time and wanted the work scheduled to be done after my trip while I would be home. During my trip, I received a phone call from my wife asking why the front walk was a mess. I emailed Wes to ask why the work was being done that day when I had clearly provided the dates I would be home and asked the status of the work hoping there was more to do. Wes replied actually arguing I was wrong, his crew was there on the dates we spoke of, he "remembered our conversation clearly". We never had such a conversation and I forwarded him my previous written communication regarding the dates. The workers returned the following day and finished the job. Unfortunately, I misunderstood Wes' verbal quote of $60/hour and did not carefully read the proposal to see it was actually $120/hour ($60 per hour per man), my mistake. Had I understood I would actually be charged double what I expected, I would not have booked the job as I personally do not believe landscape labor to be worth such a premium price!

Initially we had a competitive bid between Marvin's Organic Garden and Jamie's Landscaping. I wish now we had gone with Jamie's landscaping, simply because of the responsiveness and customer service of this landscaping. Marvin's Organic Garden had provide a very detailed and good proposal. We were thrilled at it. It was a bit pricey, but we wanted to have a good yard and decided to invest with Marvin's Organic Garden. Once we accepted their proposal, they gave us 2 week time line to begin working on our yard. At the end of the 2nd week, I had to call to see if they were still on target with the schedule. Wes, with Marvin's Organic Garden had some personal issues and asked for another week to even let us know when they will begin working on our yard. At this time, I was already behind by 3 weeks. At the end of the third week, on a Sunday evening, Wes sent me an email stating that they will begin working our yard on Monday. For the money we had agreed to spend, I would have liked if they had called and let us know, at least several days in advance, so we are prepared to. Not the day before and through an email. Once they started the work, I called Wes to see why mulching and trimming isn't being done. He mentioned that it was because it was not part of the proposal. FYI, all, read your proposal thoroughly. I thought when they plant, you also mulch and trim, and he did not mention that in the proposal nor did he call it out when we talked initially. So we made a on-the-fly decision to get the mulch and trimming through them, so the yard does look good. We did not negotiate. They obliged with doing it for us. I had to work, that being a Monday when they completed their work. I came home in the afternoon and spoke to the guys who were doing the trimming that the some trees and plants in the backyard needed trimming. I came home in the evening, and they had already left and the work was not complete. I got a hefty bill for $4489 and some of the work that still needs completion. I called and spoke to Wes, whose response was that he cannot do it now, since they have moved on and he does not have the time to finish it and that this means additional cost. There was absolutely no customer service and lack of good attitude. Number of things that we felt that they could have done better : 1. responsiveness - We had to make the call to make the appointment, we had to call to get an update, we had to call to say when work was incomplete. 2. Lack of good customer service - The 'I don't care' attitude did not go well. We made a mistake in looking at all of the reviews and going with a well established organization. Sometimes the smaller organizations are better. We will never do work with Marvin's Organic Garden again.

They tried to work with me on schedule and were very professional throughout.

It went very well. Wes was very knowledgeable and had good ideas. He was open to our style and ideas. He knew trees, plants, landscaping, drainage, and hardscape. Overall, it was a very good experience... we just have to decide if we want to move forward on some of the ideas and spend the money!

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine but I didn't end up going with them. The gentleman that came out was pretty good. He provided me with a pretty good outline and ideas of what was going to be done. It was more than I was looking to spend pricewise. He gave me good information but I didn't want to spend the price. I didn't spend any additional. I don't know if I would use them in the future.

It was fine and I thought they were really nice. They were at the house for about 1-2 hours. They got the plans back to us in about a week. The scheduling was fine.

He gave us ideas for new plants and how to provide some privacy. We didn't end up using him for the work because it was going to be too costly.

Wes was very nice and on time. He walked the property with me and asked good questions. He presented the plan with pricing in stages just like I asked. The only issue I have is there was zero follow up from Marvin's.

Wes was VERY knowledgable. Not just about the project I was describing to him but also in giving me advice about my current plantings. I appreciated that although I had originally scoped the project for two landscaping beds with stone walls he recommended I not need to spend that much and could achieve the same concept with some well placed boulders at a fraction of the price.

It was a good experience for me, because as a person who has no knowledge about landscaping, he explained everything, and he did a rough design for me. I felt comfortable, and I felt as though he was able to provide what I needed. He came out shortly after I purchased the big deal to talk to me in reference to what he would be providing. I didn't ask them to do the landscaping work for me, and so I didn't pay anything additional. I felt very comfortable with him. He presented his plan and skills, because he has done work in other parts of the world. He was knowledgeable, and I don't want anyone to think that he doesn't do a good job. He just came out to give me a quote. He came prepared to move forward, had I been in a position to do that.

The service did not turn out well. I didn't think what he provided was adequate enough. When we asked him to give us a quote for building the deck, he gave us a number, but would not give us an itemized quote of where he got that amount. We lost contact with him. He left cigarette butts in our front yard.

The service as good and they were cooperative. They came out and took measurements and we talked about what we wanted. I would not go back to them because they were so expensive.

I took advantage of one of the Angie's List deals to have a landscape consultation for my poor, neglected yard and my newly finished patio area. After contact with Marvin's, we arranged a time for them to come out. What an incredible experience it was to work with Wes!!! He is amazing!! So knowledgeable and creative about so many different aspects of landscaping! His enthusiasm and love of his work was inspiring. He walked my property with me and provided different ideas depending on what I liked/what I needed. His ideas were remarkable! Ideas I would never have thought of or could have even imagined. After discussing what I would like most, he marked areas to show me how the different areas would be arranged and what plants/trees/bushes could work in each area. Then he worked out a pricing plan. I had explained that I probably would not be able to afford to get it all done at one time so he broke down the different areas in pricing so I could see what I could get done now, and what I could get done later. Pricing was very reasonable! I may be able to ger everything done this year and I never expected that I could. I give Marvin's Organic Gardens an A +++++. If anyone is thinking of getting any kind of landscaping/hardscaping done, or if you want someone who can provide a beautiful area for you, I definitely recommend you call them first. I am thrilled with this company!!

Wes is very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft and we are confident in his and his company's abilities to solve our problems; we are beginning a five step regrading/reseeding process within the next few weeks.

Very professional, hard-working, kept us informed of the progress through the weather delays. We were very satisfied.

We purchased the big deal coupon for this service and they accepted the coupon. They did an excellent job. It took a long time to do the job because of the weather. It was too cold to do the concrete and lighting work. So it took longer but it wasn’t their fault. It was due to the weather. They were awesome and their price was very good. The nicest crew came out. They were very polite and very professional. They really worked when they were here. They really hustled and worked hard. The finished product was beautiful. We would surely use them again in the future.
