It has been over seven years since we hired The Basement Guys, and the basement still looks brand new! We recently had a couple of water-stained ceiling tiles from a plumbing leak and called to ask for a few replacement tiles. Pat was very pleasant and accommodating and arranged to have the tiles dropped at our door the next day. So many companies are only interested in your satisfaction while they have you on the hook, and might not be concerned about you seven years later. The Basement Guys clearly understand how to build and maintain a reputation. Not only do they do great work, they stand behind it! We would recommend the Basement Guys without reservation.

We got an honest evaluation and ended up getting a recommendation for something we could do ourselves. It saved us &1000’s of dollars that another company may have recommended a lot of unnecessary work.

We were extremely satisfied with the work and professionalism and will recommend this company to anyone
We had such a great experience using them in our previous home, we knew we wanted them back for our new home. Professional and no pressure process. They worked to get our project into our budget and gave a product we loved. They did a month's worth of work in three days and it was great. We definitely recommend.

We called and scheduled an appointment for Saturday, 12/30. One hour before the scheduled appointment we received a call that the person coming had to cancel due to car problems. We rescheduled for Tuesday. Then on that Tuesday we received a call and was asked if we could reschedule, because they accidentally double book appointments. We said no, because this was already the second time we had to adjust our schedules to get this done. The inspector did end up making the appointment, but couldn’t give us much information. He said he would have to check somethings at home base, but would email us a quote and information. We never heard anything else from anyone. No follow up, no quote, no anything. For all the work it took to get someone to come out it would have been great to have something to show for it. We went through at least four different calls where we had to answer the same questions over and over again, just to different people.

In our notes the customer who made the appointment was [Member Name Removed] and she stated she was the homeowner with no additional decision makers in the home. We didn't make an appointment with [Member Name Removed] we are not sure what relationship he has with the homeowner. The appointed that was scheduled on 12/30 was reschedule due to bad weather not car problems. Most of our appointments were reschedule that day because of the conditions on the road and to make sure are inspectors were able to safely arrive to their appointments. I talk to the inspector who went to [Member Name Removed]'s home and he explained that the work they needed we were not able to do and recommended she call a Mason. That is the reason why they didn't get an estimate. There was no estimate to be given and addition everything we did for them was for Free and no charge. I am not sure who [Member Name Removed] is or if he was there at the appointment but certainly their was something lost in the translation between who made the appointment and made this review. I am also not sure why [Member Name Removed] would not pick up the phone and call if he had a question but again he is not the person we made the appointment with our company.

The salesman, Kevin, arrived on time and examined the wall and did a walkaround of the property. He then did his presentation, which was not high pressure. He emphasized that the Rhino Carbon Fiber straps carried a lifetime warranty (transferrable) that there would be no further inward movement. The price in conjunction with the warranty seemed reasonable, so we signed a contract a couple days later. We accepted an "on call" designation for a slight discount, but that was not used. Our work was finally scheduled about 4 weeks after signing the contract. We were asked to clear out at least 5 feet of space in front of the entire wall. The installer arrived at the expected time and began working immediately. He was willing to answer any questions I had and discussed what he was going to be doing. First, he set up some plastic sheeting to prevent the dust from going throughout the basement and house. Then, he prepped the walls with a grinder and drilled holes. After that, he installed the straps with epoxy. Finally, he did an decent job of vacuuming and wet sweeping the dust. Throughout the installation, the installer answered my questions. During the installation (because I had read about the carbon fiber installation on the Rhino website), I had some concerns about the spacing of one of the straps, the curvature of a couple straps, and the fact that one of the straps was slightly ripped by the grinder near the top of the wall. He assured me that none of these would be a problem in preventing further inward movement. I accepted his experience and the fact that the professional product installation would be warranted. A week later, we received the completed warranty document from The Basement Guys. In summary, we were happy with the sales and installation experience. And, the price seemed reasonable. Given the option, I might have given the quality an A-, but the fact that The Basement Guys stand behind this work with a lifetime warranty against any further inward movement allayed my concerns. I would definitely consider them for any future foundation repair (or basement finishing) needs.
Description of Work: During the home inspection process, a bowing wall was missed in our new basement. We discovered the bow after taking possession. Bummer. The bow in the wall was less than 2 inches. We decided we wanted to address the issue to prevent a worsening problem AND to be able to tell a future potential buyer that the issue had been addressed. After doing some research, I was interested in talking to a company that installed carbon fiber straps, as that seemed like the least intrusive (and possibly least expensive) solution. I liked the look of the Rhino Carbon Fiber product, so I contacted The Basement Guys - Cleveland.

I called the Basement Guys to have them give me an estimate to refinish my basement. The woman that set up the appointment was very nice and very helpful. She told me she would call me the day before the appointment to make sure everything was still good to go. The day before my appointment, another woman called and said that the gentleman that was supposed to come wouldn’t be coming because it was too far of a drive. I asked if he needed to reschedule or if I needed to find someone else. The woman said she’d call me back and let me know. She did, and I was told I wasn’t even in their service area, and that it was over a three hour drive for them to even get to my home. This business has Stow, Ohio listed as their address and that is one hour and eleven minutes from where I live. I asked She then proceeded to tell me that the man that was to come over was from the Pittsburgh area and I told her that was even closer than Stow, OH! I can’t help but feel like I was brushed off. Cleveland, Stow, Pittsburgh.....NONE of those cities are three hours away.

I will ask them to come out when it is time for a basement do-over in the future. The work we needed was out of their scope but they helped us get to where we needed to be.

Dan came out to our house, walked through our basement, and gave me a quote that day. He explained exactly what they were going to do, how it worked, and why he recommended it over other methods. I chose The Basement Guys over other waterproofers because they were not intimidated by our 100-year-old basement, its complicated layout, and the potential for surprises once they got to work. They were extremely professional and kept the basement clean throughout the process. The foreman actually discovered a plumbing problem beneath the floor, informed me immediately, and worked around it without issue until I could have a plumber make the repair. I would highly recommend The Basement Guys if you're looking for an honest, reasonable, and thorough contractor for your project.

We got quotes from several different people and this was the best even though it was a little bit more. The responsiveness was a bit tricky. Because when I finally did get in touch with them they were very responsive. But it was hard getting an actual time and date from them. Once they did give a time they were not very punctual. If it was to do the work that we contracted them to do I would use them again, I don' t know if I would use them necessarily for any other.

I had initially left an F-grade for Basement Guys because they had cancelled my schedule on the day of the appointment that resulted in one PTO day wasted for me. However, after I made that review on Angie's List, the owner of the company called me to apologize and to set up another appointment at my convenience. He showed up on time, and was very friendly and helpful. Even though we did not agree to the price, I liked his approach towards turning a bad customer experience into a good one.
They did a wonderful job! The workers were very professional and always on time. They were very receptive to our requests. Best of all, it only took 11 days to completely finish the job, and our basement was cinder block walls and concrete floor. We financed the job and Tara in the finance department was wonderful! The whole job, from start to finish, was a breeze. We couldn't be happier with our new basement and with The Basement Guys! We would definitely recommend them!

No work was completed. I entered a contest for a free basement refinishing over 6 months ago and they call me every single day. We hired the basement guys after getting quotes from two other contractors. They were not the cheapest but, we liked the sales person more and the product better fit what we wanted in our basement. Once we selected them we spent several weeks negotiating the final price and deciding on the flooring options that were available. Once everything was set we had a final meeting to sign the sales agreement and schedule a start date. I insisted that the sales form state that they were responsible for getting all permits pulled and approved for this job. They had no problem with this and we scheduled the work to coincide with the RNC as we were both going to be at home to avoid crowds downtown. I was told that I would hear from them one week prior to starting. The week before the RNC I had heard nothing and was wondering if I would hear from them. I finally decided to call the office and find out if I was going to need to arrange for contractors or not. The person who answered the phone was very rude and felt it necessary to tell me that she had no idea if they would be there because she had to ask the Operations Manager who she had to get off the phone with to talk to me, I would have thought that this would have already been worked out. I was later told that there would be a delay but, they would let me know. We waited several weeks before I got a call from an older sounding gentleman telling me that they would be there tomorrow to begin work. I was also told that there would only be himself and his wife and that the job was going to take around ten days (we were told it would only be 3 days). This would not be the last of the problems. The day they showed up I was informed that they did not yet have the agreed upon permits from the city (I later got copies of the permits that were clearly applied for after work had begun). Then after getting partially through the work they simply stopped showing up, without saying anything. Finally, after calling and complaining I spoke to the Operations Manager who got them too show up again but, now they felt that they could vent to me about how little they are paid. Which besides being unprofessional made me very uncomfortable as I am paying them to work on my house. Then they stopped showing up again and after I contacted the Operations Manager about this was informed that I would be getting a new project manager. Who finished most of the work before disappearing again. We ended up waiting months to hear from them because we were sick of asking daily whether they were going to show up or not. When we heard from them again they wanted to know when we were going to pay them. Even though the work was not complete and the permits were not approved. We told them that the work was not complete and proceeded to tell them the problems that still needed addressed. In the end, we got most of the issues resolved but, decided to pay them because it is easier to deal with this ourselves and we simply wanted to be done with this nightmare. For reference, here are some of the issues that we had. Failure to show up Personal property was not covered leading to construction dust everywhere Paint was applied poorly leading to overspray, drips, and missing spots Floor was not properly cleaned before installing flooring (we now have planks that must be replaced). Garbage was not removed (I had too haul pieces of sewer pipe out myself) Nail holes were not filled in. Dry wall poorly installed (I can still see screws that were simply painted over) Sink had to be fixed as it leaked (it is also not level but, they caulked it to the wall) Clogged floor drain with their ‘Floor Leveler’ which was never cleaned out. Constant delays and complaining about getting permits approved Shoe molding that is not attached to the wall HVAC that is not properly sealed. I would be weary of hiring them as this led to considerable stress on both my wife and myself.

I can understand the frustration from Mr. [Member Name Removed]. We were also very frustrated with the process of this job. The issue we experienced which cause the delays mentioned were the results of the City of Cleveland Building Dept. We had all necessary permits for this project but when you have a permit you have to call the city to get inspections for each step along the way. Which means we can go only so far before we are required to get an inspection. The City of Cleveland either was to busy with the RNC or had issues with inspectors but we simply could not get them out for inspections on a timely manner. We called them daily and stopped at the building Dept many times as well. They would give us date and then reschedule. We had even ask the customer to call the city which sometimes can speed up the process. The reason why a crew did not show up after a certain point was do the the fact that they can not do anything until the city inspects each step of the process with a rough inspection. Which leaves us at a standstill. As a result this project took way to long for the customer and for our Company which obviously contributed the the frustration of the customer. Which we understand. We did all that we could working with city to get the project done for the customer and for our company. We did handled all the items on the final punch list for the customer and their basement looks great. We give our customers a lifetime warranty on their basement and work hard to take care of any warranty items. We know a review like this can effect consumers on which company they choose which can effect Mr [Member Name Removed] and all of our previous customer. That is why we work hard to take care of any of our customer. We at least wanted to reply to what happened on this project. Also the correct cost listed was not $45,000. it was $17,800 to finish the basement with a bath. If you have any questions please contact our office and we would be happy to answer them for you. This review really should be for the Cleveland Building Dept.
