+ 0 moreThe service was great. Dienes Floor Sanding and Refinishing was able to start on the floor at an earlier date than originally scheduled - that was a great convenience. The work was performed quickly and excellently - the floor looks brand new. I wouldn't hesitate to use Dienes for any future needs and consider them my 'go to' flooring professionals.
Description of Work: Dienes Floor Sanding and Refinishing repaired extensive flooring damage. Jim Dienes was one of the only flooring professionals who was able to guide me in the right direction, and provide all the options, regarding how to deal with this problem and what I could expect from each option. Damaged wood was removed and replaced where necessary and hard wood flooring through the living room, dining room and into two bedrooms was resurfaced - sanded and finished with three coats of poly.

Description of Work: I put $1.00 as the price because I do not recall how much we did pay. We moved into a new house that DESPERATELY needed the floors to be redone on the first andj second floors. Due to a misunderstanding on our end, Jim thought that we were not interested in having him do the work. When we explained we did indeed want the work, he replied that he was booked for the next 2 months, but that he would try to come over between other jobs or when a job got done early. He estimated it would take about 2 months to get it done. He had it done in 2-3 weeks. The previous owners had put down carpeting, so they felt no need for drop cloths to prevent paint and plaster from spilling copiously onto the floors, which they did. Jim did a such fantastic job of sanding and staining the floors that they still look new after 13 years. A few years later we needed the same work done on the third floor, and Jim and his crew showed up on time and did another superlative job. He even did the stairs (taking off God only knows how many layers of paint) to their original birch treads. About a month ago one of my floorboards broke, and Jim came and fixed it. He was very sorry that it did not match the boards around it, but I can't tell where the new board is. Another fantastic job. While fixing the board, we asked how much it would cost to redo the main stair (it was the stair to 3rd that he had done before). He quoted us $600, a perfectly fair price considering how bad shape our stair our in. We have him scheduled to come in July to redo the stairs. In short, I can not recommend his work enough.

The color came out exactly as we requested to match other flooring. We are very happy with the job and will have Dienes back to do more refinishing.

+ -1 moreWe called out multiple (five) reputable contractors to quote the job of sanding and refinishing the 1,600 Sq ft area of hardwood through out our home. Although not the lowest estimate initially, Jim's 30 yrs experience and knowledge was instantly clear as he made his walk through and measured up. He was able to answer all our questions regarding the repairs, staining, coating types, cleaning etc and was very thorough in his responses. We managed to negotiate a suitable quote and started the work immediately. Jim removed the existing floor finishing and sanded the hardwood floors back to the bare wood, and hand scrapped every nook and corner to blend in the transitions between the rooms. He filled and sanded the floors thought, and then applied 3 coats of oil based sheer Polyurethane and buffed each coat before applying the next. All through the 9 days of work, we found Jim to be punctual and very organized and tidy in leaving in the evenings. The finished floors look tremendous, and add so much more elegance and beauty to our home.
Description of Work: We had Jim Dienes completely re-sand and refinish our hardwood flooring throughout our Shaker Heights home. He instantly diagnosed the existing issues with the old floor finishing failing and defects (prior DIY job) and work required to restore the white oak flooring back to its original beauty.
