Bakai Construction was very professional and punctual. We decided not to use him because his pricing was too high. Everything was fine, it was just the final numbers that came in that swung our decision.

When I requested an estimate for a Kitchen Remodel, Barney Bakai was very prompt in returning my call. An appointment was set-up without any delay and based on my availability. Barney was very considerate in calling me to let me know that he was running a little late the day of the appointment. When he arrived he was very professional and knowledgeable in discussing our project. Barney returned a nicely detailed quote to me within 9 days. His quote was very competetive but we went with another company based on the installation certification for the quartz countertops we wanted. I would definitely consider contacting Bakai construction again for a future project.

My project was to change a small office area into a bathroom. The job required some extensive work getting through an old exterior wall in the basement for the plumbing. They were late getting to the house to discuss the project - strike one. They needed to reschedule a follow-up visit with a subcontractor but didn't come when they said they would - strike two. After the initial visit hey never attempted to contact me or indicate in any way if they were or were not interested in doing the job - strike three - and since I'm a baseball fan, that means you're out! On the positive side, he was very friendly and professional when he arrived. I was impressed that he took his shoes off to come in the house. He listened to what I wanted and discussed options and what would be needed to do the job.

My bathroom shower tiles were falling off the wall and I needed them replaced. After extensive searching on Angie's List and many quotes later I chose Bakai for the job! Barney is very honest and willing to help when it comes to grout/tile selection. Very responsive to text messages, emails, and phone calls. You will not feel uneasy around this guy as most contractors make you feel when they come into your home and start upselling you things you don't need or want to do. I had several quotes from contractors I found on Angie's List most who would only give me a verbal quote and some which took over a week to obtain a formal quote. Bakai may not be the cheapest but they are middle of the road when it comes to price but in the end you get exactly what you paid for! If you are looking for an open and honest team STOP looking any further and hire BAKAI for the job! Barney and Jim are a great team. Very professional and very clean with their work. They clean as they go never leaving a mess. Now give them a call you will not regret it!

This was an unexpected project that Bakai Construction did for us. As luck would have it (both good and bad), our toilet in the half bath started leaking and a big water stain appeared in the dining room ceiling. After further investigation, it seemed our toilet had been seeping water for quite some time and it had rotted out the subfloor underneath the toilet. The plumber said it was a miracle the toilet didn't go crashing through to the dining room table. That's the bad luck part. The good luck part is that Bakai Construction was already down the hallway performing a remodel on our main bathroom. We showed Barney and Jim this new problem that cropped up and asked if they could help out. They are extremely busy, but they managed to squeeze this extra project into their timeline and had it finish seamlessly with our other job they were doing. I am so grateful that Bakai Construction was actually in my house when this problem occurred! Thanks to Barney and Jim, I know that I'll never have a problem with rotted subfloor again. They do such beautiful quality work with tiling and they ensure what goes on under the tile will prevent future problems from cropping up. Homeownership does throw problems at you, but like I said, we are so lucky this problem happened while Barney and Jim were already here doing another project.

I cannot give Bakai Construction as high of a grade as I'd like to. They were truly exceptional. Barney and Jim did the bulk of the work in our bathroom. It took them just over a week to complete the job from the initial demolition to the final clean up. Harold the plumber was awesome as well, moving the tub drain to create a shower drain and re-installing the toilet. The other guys who worked with Barney and Jim here and there were also excellent, but I don't recall their names. They are very professional, prompt, and have a quality of workmanship that surpasses anything I've ever encountered. I could go on and on about how wonderful they are! We originally had 4 quotes for a complete remodel of the master bath. We chose Barney because we liked the craftsmanship we saw on his website. He wasn't the cheapest quote, but wasn't the most expensive either. After having to scale down our dream bathroom to just a shower and floor re-do, Barney was extremely helpful and understanding in getting everything we needed to fit into our budget. The work was completed in a timely fashion. They came every day as promised on time. They cleaned up after themselves after leaving each day. They are very friendly and professional people. I loved how laid back they were when it came to certain details about tile or grout that needed to be discussed. Barney didn't overwhelm us ever, he only addressed things with us when it became relevant to the project. The end result is a beautifully designed custom shower that he guarantees for 50 years and a lovely tile floor to match it. I'm so happy that we chose Bakai Construction for our remodel. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and would recommend them to anyone.

Didn't end up using because went with a cheaper quote but seemed trustworthy and reliable.

The team did an excellent job with the tile installation. The job also required custom wood work for transitions to family room and dining room, and they made it a point to make sure we were happy with all of the transitions.

Bakai Construction gets A+++. They sent Jason out to complete the job on 10/01/2012. He was professional, knowledgeable and respectable and got the job done right. For me I judge a company by how they handle conflict. How they handle the failure to meet their own standards of quality of work. You see the true nature of any company is not only measured by their great success. But by how they handle great unfortunate failures. Bakai Construction rose to the challenge and surpassed any preconceived idea I had of the company. Bakai has a true character, a standard of quality not seen very often anymore. Excellent job. Barney was timely in answering our initial call and made some good recommendations about what we needed--we knew that we wanted a tile backsplash in the kitchen, but thought that a repair would do for the bathroom floor. After some investigation, he suggested that due to water damage, add backer board and replace the tile. He did a couple of layouts for the backsplash until it looked just right. He was meticulous in his work and cost-conscious. A very nice job and we would definitely use him again.

Great job. Barney is very open and honest and knows how to work with older properties like our 100 year old condo. He kept us informed throughout the project and was considerate of our time. We needed to change plans part-way through due to some baseboard issues and he took care of that with no trouble. The granite, tile and backsplash all look great. We would use him again.

When I contacted Barney I had not made any choices of materials, etc. He came out and we discussed what I thought I wanted and he e-mailed me an estimate the next day. We added the in-floor heating element and came to an agreement. Barney suggested a couple of tile suppliers and sources for the vanity/sink, toilet and faucets. We agreed that when I had the tile selected and the other items on-site I would contact him for a start date. It took me a few weeks to get that done and I so appreciated that he was helpful and understanding about how long it took me to do that. Once the tile came in we agreed on a start date and the job was done with only a day or two over the 6 day estimate due to the need to re-route some supply lines..Barney let me know when to expect him and/or the plumber & electrician. We had only 1 day of miscommunication on schedule and he apologized for that - he ran into a problem on another job that took longer than he expected. They were all friendly and courteous and considerate. He kept me informed of the progress and steps that needed to be done and we worked out when I could get in there to do the painting (my choice). They cleaned up each night (especially appreciated since we were still using the bedroom). They also worked around my very skittish cat by closing off the bedroom/bathroom and using the deck entrance to the bedroom/bath.After the work was completed we did have one problem with a leak from the shower door frame and Barney came out the next day and fixed that.Barney is a perfectionist with the tile work - layout, pattern, even the grout work is perfect - I'm so glad I opted for the clear glass doors so the shower and floor are the focus.. I splurged on the tile (over my planned budget but I loved it) and Barney's work made it so worth it.I still have another bath to re-do and I will definitely have Barney do it.

Barney was punctual. The job was pretty much on schedule. He cleaned up after each day and his co-worker was great and very nice. If there was a problem they let us know, but would fix it immediately. It was a very smooth remodel.

I would STRONGLY recommend Bakai construction for any of your rennovations that he is able to do. I was kept in the loop at all times, felt very comfortable with Barney, and was absolutely amazed when it was all said and done. I did not include the price he charged because there were a lot of odd things he had to do because of how old my house was and how bad my kitchen was (I purchased the home as a foreclosure). His estimate was right on what the final charge was. No hidden charges. I will without hesitation recommend and use Bakai construction for any home improvement needs.

Bakai Construction did an excellent job. Barney Bakai gave us a competitive estimate, and we only went over the estimate on additional work that we requested. When we needed assistance in making decisions, he shared his experience and gave his opinion, but let us make the decisions. He was able to recommend an excellent shower door vendor and he directed us to a very good place to pick out and purchase tile. Barney and his crew were all professional and friendly, They were prompt and never left a mess. Considering that we had work done in both the bathrooms in our house, th e project was only minimally disruptive.We often communicated through e-mail and Barney was always prompt in responding to me.Barney had me make a list of anything that needed attending to at the end of the project, and he will check back to see if the tile in the new shower needs any work.We did have a small problem with the grout we chose for a portion of the shower, and Barney recognized the problem and, without my having to ask, he volunteered to fix it. I will use Bakai Construction again for future projects. I would not hesitate to recommend Bakai Construction and, in fact, we have already done so.

He told me he would honor the pricing options I got from other remodelers. When he was scheduled to come (it took me 4 months) out he told me he would need extra funds, therefore I didn't use him. He knew what he was getting into (he took pictures in April) and he was trying to get an extra 500 dollars from me.

Barney was prompt and came out to give an estimate. Seems very knowledge in tiling floors and have no doubt that he and his crew would do a good job.

We were very happy with the design ideas and the assistance in picking tiles, pencil molding, and glass insert. Barney had some time the day after the tile arrived. So, he came out and did the installation that day. Barney and crew did a great job with the installation. The backsplash looks really beautiful. We are very pleased with Bakai Construction and plan on working with him in the future.

Barney is very pleasant to deal with. He answers phone calls promptly and comes when he says he will. He takes pride in his work. We consulted several contractors for this project, and I think he was the only one who understood that we didn't need a complete gut of our bathroom, but wanted to work with what we have and stay within our budget. We are very happy with the results.

They were very nice, too. He was professional, kind, and told me that if I had any questions in the future just to call. They did it for a very low amount becauase I'm on disability. I talked to other people and they were going to charge me $700 and he charged $300. He told me that the customer takes priority, and that he wanted to do something in my range that I could afford. I just want to tell everyone how good they are. They are perfectionists. The grout was previously really dirty, and they were able to redo everything. I wanted to give them a little bit more because they worked so hard. They came at 3:00pm and were able to finish in 2.5 hours! It will bring up the apartment rating, too. Anyone who sees this bathroom will love it!

Barney, Jim and crew were fabulous from start to finish. They arrived each day as scheduled, were very responsive to questions, offered good advice, and delivered quality workmanship. They take great pride in their work and are very professional and friendly. I had a lot of others coming and going (painters, furniture cleaners, kids, and a friendly excitable dog) and they were extremely accommodating and patient. They enabled me to makeover 2 bathrooms at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended to anyone for any kind of remodel or flooring needs.

Barney and Jim were excellent from start to finish. Barney came out to do the estimate as scheduled and offered good, no-pressure advice about the kind of flooring would work best and what areas to cover. They began the work within two weeks and were extremely trustworthy and reliable. I was comfortable having them around the house while I was at work. Each day when I came home I was able to witness the progress they made. They were very friendly and professional throughout the process, and they do outstanding, quality work. I would hire them again (in fact I did, to do work in my bathrooms) and would recommend them highly to anyone looking for any flooring or remodeling service.

Working with Barney was a completely positive experience. He is extremely talented, professional and courteous. I contacted Barney once we decided we needed to completely redo the tile in our master bathroom. We also needed to repair the shower wall, as there had been no waterproof material behind the tile when it was originally built. Barney consulted with me and offered suggestions. He completed the work as promised and scheduled. His work is absolutely gorgeous and we're thrilled!
