Steve and his crew did an outstanding job. The work was done within the time promised, even though the one chimney was in worse shape than he thought - he had estimated the work while on the ground as the chimney was positioned so that he needed a lift to get close to it. Despite that setback, he did the work within the time estimated. Both chimneys needed to be completely tuck pointed, needed to have a large number of bricks rebuilt, and both needed the chimney crown rebuilt as well. We've since had a chimney liner installed in the chimney venting the boiler, and the installer said that the chimney job was one of the best he'd ever seen - quite a nice complement to Steve and his crew!

Mr. Koontz did some repairs on my chimney as well as some work on my flagstone sidewalk. They were both done well and I was very satisfied. He is a knowledgeable and competent mason.

Steve was amazing ! As I stated above, we had a patio put in during the summer of 2011. We had nothing but problems with the original contractor. We needed somebody to fix our patio disaster. We contacted sever highly rated "Angie's List" contractors. Some of them were so concerned with what they saw, they declined the job. Steve Koontz was up to the task. Steve diagnosed the problem and gave us several options to fix things. They ranged from total redo (most expensive) to drilling out the bad mortar and putting in a polymeric sand (much less expensive). Steve said that the polymeric sand would not be perfect, but would fit within our budget and he promised we would be happy with it. Our stone steps were also falling apart and were holding moisture. Steve said that there was a water drainage issue. He gave us some really inexpensive options to fix our steps and we decided to do that also. Our total estimate was just over $4000, which was half the price of the other contractors that we contacted. We were actually afraid since Steve's prices were so low compared to everybody else's. But he convinced us that he could fix this without breaking our budget. We signed the contract and waited a few weeks as Steve was finishing up other jobs. Then he called us up and said he would be at our house in a few days and he expected the job to take 3 days. He showed up when he said he would. He took three days. The work was beautiful. He didn't destroy our lawn (like the last guy did). And the price was exactly what he said. We had one small problem. There was an air bubble in the sand on one of our stone pavers and the sand came out. I called Steve and told him. He said he would be out at the end of the week and fix it. Guess what ... he showed up and fixed it !!! I called him only one time and he fixed it!!! When this guy says he stands behind his work, he really does ! This guy is so honest and hard working, that I can't say enough nice things about him. I wish we had used Angie's List last year and we would have had a great patio from the start. We will only use Steve Koontz for our masonry work. I am going to post some "before" and "after" pictures so you can see the magic that Steve worked on our patio !!! My advice is to hire Steve Koontz !!! ( And in case anybody is wondering, I reviewed the first guy who gave us the terrible patio ... he didn't get as good of a rating as Steve Koonts !!! )

It was a wonderful experience. He was on time and answered all of our questions. He did all the work he said he was going to do. He discovered another problem and was able to address and fix that. He was very easy to work with.

Great. I come from a family of masons and know a little about the trade. He was very good at what he does. He is very professional. I would hire him again in a minute!

His quote was high priced. He was way out of the ballpark. He was very friendly. He made time for us but his quote was just too high. I got the impression that I was being charged for the inconvenience of it all. We did not like him.

We decided to go with another company at half the price for the services.

We were extremely satisfied with the work and will use this company again for another masonry job.

Koontz Construction is a very small, locally-owned company. Their prices were reasonable. He was willing to do the small job at a very reasonable price.
