Description of Work: McClurg installed our irrigation system approximately 12 yrs ago. They have always maintained the Spring turn-on and Fall turn-off. I phoned McClurg mid-April to schedule a Spring turn-on date. They informed me that I needed to sign a contract first before they could service our irrigation system. I said, I must have thrown out the information or did not receive it and could they please send me another contract. The woman I spoke to said, it will be a couple of weeks before they could send it! I have never received the contract and phoned a few days ago requesting the form again. They were not apologetic that they have not sent it., nor did they provide an answer as to when they might send it. I asked if it could be emailed to me. This contract must be under 'lock & key' that the office manager or receptionist cannot provide this form to their customers. By the looks of other complaints regarding the same contract issue, it appears that McClurg is not interested in serving their customer. We will take our business elsewhere!

Description of Work: Overhauled existing sprinkler system. Added two other stations. The problem was in that they did not begin the work when claimed. I waited two weeks following when they were supposed to begin and was told I wasn't on the whiteboard yet but they would get me on it. | |The work was completed in one day (good) but there was no walk-through following the completion. Upon personally checking on the systems I noticed several deficiencies. I contacted the vendor and they sent someone out a week later to go through the system with me. Two sprinklers had not been replaced and five others required adjustment. | |When I received the invoice it was a greater than increase of 25% over the quotation but that may be due to extra work performed.

Gives us a time and if they're going to be late they always call. The other two lawn companies we had before McClurg would never call and came whenever they wanted.

+ 2 moreEric was very professional and told me that the grade in the yard was not causing the problem in the crawl space like two other companies did. He said to extend the downspouts around the house to between 5-8 feet to keep the water away from the foundation. He also said if this didn't work to try the wider gutters around the home. He was not pushy and said if we still had a problem to call him back and he would gladly come back out and help us figure out the problem. The other companies wanted to grade the entire yard or build up the dirt around the foundation. Eric also gave us an estimate to put the downspouts underground if we wanted to do that. He was a firm believer in trying the simplest things first instead of the costly ones if it wasn't necessary. I highly recommend McClurg Environmental! We will be getting the downspout work done and also yard treatments and pest treatments in the future! One of the most honest and up front companies I have ever done business with.

+ -1 moreTheir fee for the close down was lower than others for shutting down sprinkler. Their fee for repairs to the sprinkler was a bit high, but the service man worked fast and so the overall fee was quite good. They did not get all the problems the first time, but they came back immediately and did not charge another trip fee. As the first time, they had time left over in their minimum fee, the man took the time to carefully explain to me how the controller worked and how to set times and amounts of watering. I plan on using them again this year. I am a very satisfied customer and recommend them.
Description of Work: they closed down the lawn sprinkler system and re-opened it in spring including repairs for the spring and fall of 2011 and 2012

Description of Work: McClurg provided a detailed estimate with a drawing of the proposed landscaping. They also provided helpful suggestions unique to our request and listened to what our needs were based on lifestyle and time available to maintain the landscaping. Workers who actually did the work were professional and courteous. The actual work performed consisted of landscaping along the side of our house.

+ -1 moreWe have a large water feature in the yard that was here when we purchased the house. We knew nothing about it at all and it was loosing water at approximately 5 to 10 gallons a day. They came out, diagnosed the problem, and repaired it in the time frame we worked out. I have had them back to do further work on the pond, always with great results.
Description of Work: Repaired water feature in yard which required cutting liner, removing stone, and re-sealing liner.

+ -1 moreI used their mole removal program that guaranteed removal. It was was not a sucess that summer. They never billed me. Oddly enough I had no moles in 2012, I havd to give them crediit. They mowed my yard in 2012 when I was not able. They dud an excellent job\ in trimming.

+ 0 moreThey worked in miserable, rainy weather, that is why for the first time in 4 years my husband wanted someone, other then himself, to winterize the pond. Most importantly, the pond was loosing water & that needed to be addressed & repaired. It wasn't a difficult job, but it took them 4.75 hours. They charged $95. per hour. My mistake was not asking their rate. Believe me I will the next time. Overall did a great job, but not worth the price.

Many months went by between getting the quote and the actual work (I had to call and remind them I was waiting, then they came the next day). The job they did was impeccable, but then the bill was half again what I expected. They did adjust the bill down after I questioned it. Beautiful work; left the site clean; polite and knowledgeable workers.

+ -1 more. Last year, they told me that the system wouldn't start up. They wanted to put in a new system and would get back with me on a price. The price was close to $2,000. I couldn't believe it. This is when I joined Angies List and called K and N Irrigation, a company I had never heard of before. They came out and started my system for $70. I just had K and N out here again today and they got it started again. I really felt cheated by McClurg. On top of it all, they sent me a bill last year for turning on the system. I left a message for the owner explaining why there was no way I was going to pay them a dime. They were here for about 10 minutes before they suggested "a new system."
Description of Work: I've hired this company to turn on and "winterize" my irrigation system every year, for about 3 years. They had always done good work until last year.

+ 1 moreAbsolutely great company in my book - would recommend (and Have) to anyone/everyone.
Description of Work: I have used McClurg for years for yard maintenance, mulch installation, bug control and trimming. I find them very competent and reliable. I have a lot of trimming in my yard and have, after using others found them to be the most knowledgeable (they have a man called Lee who teaches his skill at Michigan State Univ.) and if he tells you something take it to the bank. Have them cut my grass and unlike other services in my area they report to my work at precisely the same day & time ever week and do a great job. Had them mulch my flower beds this year and when they got done it looks like a picture, with a precisely established border and great presentation (they used a black mulch that remains black for years and look exquisite. I originally contacted them because I had admired their work at a condo development not far away and found out who did the work and they have done well with me. Would highly recommend. I am not sure if they are the cheapest out there but sometimes you get what you pay for.
