Everything went very well. From the initial visit for an estimate until the final day of work I was impressed by this company. The man who came to do the work, John, was very knowledgeable and professional. He showed up on time each day (it was a two day job) and worked quietly and consistently until the end of the day. He was very polite and cleaned up thoroughly each day before he left. I'm very satisfied with the work John did and the company as a whole. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: The provider repaired a number of things in my home. These included drywall repair, roof repair, fixing a ceiling, installing a dimmer light switch, a standard light switch, patching some holes in a wall, and wallpaper removal.

We were both satisfied with the work they did. It looks good. My only complaint was that their dry waller didn’t cover anything up when he sanded, so we had quite a mess on our hands afterwards. Everything was coated with drywall dust and mud. They told me they had had that problem in the past. Their carpenter’s assistant was supposed to clean up at the end of the day, but that was hit and miss. I asked them not to do any sawing in the garage, but they did anyway, and left some sawdust. The D in professionalism is a reflection on their cleanup work. The carpenter they had – Tim – was excellent, and we both liked the quality of the work.
Description of Work: We had our basement remodeled. They put up a couple walls for us, and did some painting and drywall work as well.

They have been very good about it. They were very prompt with the estimate when they got back to us. Their quote was in line with everybody else. They were very professional. We haven't chosen anybody yet, but we contacted four different companies. They gave us the estimate about a week after they looked at it, which was right in line with everybody else, except for one company that never came back to give us an estimate. They were pretty thorough about going through the house and listening to what we needed done. The quote was under $9000.
Description of Work: Home Solutions of Maumee Valley Inc gave us an estimate for refinishing two bedrooms upstairs. The estimate was for dry walling, finishing the drywall, hanging the trim and also replacing a door in the downstairs hallway and putting up paneling.

The owner was very easy to deal with. All the people he sent out were contracted by him. We had multiple things done. One guy had to come out twice to fix it because it wasn't done right. Another guy had kicked a vent in my roof, which dropped a vent in my attic. It knocked a grate off that was mounted in the ceiling and it hit the floor. The grate wasn't properly mounted so I can't say that it was entirely his fault.

The service was OK overall. They were slow when it came to finishing the project. I signed the contract end of September and they just finished the job around mid-March. The work was ok--there were numerous things that kept building up, but all of the workers were very nice. The owner was very amiable throughout the entire process as well.
Description of Work: They gave me a walk-in shower and took my old tub out. They had to replace some of the tile. They gave me a new bathroom floor as well.

Called them on 12/18/12 and was forced to leave a message on machine. Did not get a call back until 9 am on the 19th by which time I had called another company to do the work. The company I called was unable to perform the work so I called Home Solutions back at approximately noon. They scheduled an appointment for between 3 and 4 pm. At 4:15 I called their office and was told that I must have called another company as they had no record of my call and were unable to provide service until at least tomorrow. I had several other companies that I had called the previous night and between when I called and set up their call and 4:15 had called and were willing to perform services today, as i needed them. I turned down other companies who could have taken care of me today (my ONLY day off for 3 weeks) as I had a service call set up with home solutions. The owner of the company (whom I spoke with during my 4:15 call) basically said I must have been confused and called another company when I have a record in my phone of exactly who I called. Please know that they apparently are not concerned with following through with employee made appointments and as a result I am going to have to pay another company an emergency fee because of THEIR mistake.

Mike has been great to work with and is very responsive to your needs and questions. He has a main office which is really helpful to be able to leave messages and ask more basic questions as he and his team are very busy (but very responsive). We have had a great experience thus far and would definitely recommend Mike and his team.
Description of Work: Home Solutions helped us complete the electrical work and some drywall work for a powder room remodel and also painted our front room and our sunroom. They even helped with a child gate installation we were having difficulty with. We have also received quotes for some masonry work we intend to do this spring and a full master bath remodel we are planning for next year.

The day that the owner came over to provide the estimate went well. He was very courteous and conscientious. Removed his shoes to prevent tracking in any dirt. Gave a fair estimate for the work that was to be done. The plan was to remove an existing tub, replace it and remove and replace surrounding ceramic tiles. It all sounded good up front. He was very confident that I would be completely pleased with the proposed job, really talking up his company. The start date was postponed from 2/5 to 2/6. Charles was to be at my door at 8am on 2/6. At 8am, Dave shows up at my door. Well, so much for that initial image. He proceeded to walk through my house without even attempting to wipe his shoes. From that point on, it got worse. My house was a mess the entire time. My kitchen floor was filthy from them tracking dirt from the garage to the bathroom when they were cutting the tiles. They left my garage floor covered in water from the ceramic tile cutter. My good kitchen rug was placed in front of the door to catch the dirt. At 1:30 the first afternoon, I get a call at work from Dave who has broken my toilet and wanted to make a deal with me to fix it. Of course, I told him that I wanted it fixed that day and not at my expense. I did call the owner who said that Dave was off the job and the toilet would be replaced. When I returned home, it was replaced with an inferior toilet that wobbled. I also found when I returned home that existing ceramic tile had been chipped and cracked and the toilet paper holder had been broken and glued back together. On 2/7, Charles came to continue work on the project. We discussed the placement of the new tile around the tub. I requested that the new white tile not be placed on the outside of the tub and asked that if possible, they save peach tile that they were going to remove that day. He verbalized understanding. Unfortunately, Charles had a death in his family and was not able to continue working on the project that day. The owner said that he could send Dave back and I declined this offer. Charles did return the following Monday 2/11 and started to place the tile. Upon returning home from work, I find that he had placed white tile where I wanted the peach. The owner was called. He called Charles who did call me back but told me that I would have to take it up with Mike, the owner. Was told the the tile was probably too old to save. I was never told this before they placed the white tile. If I had been told, I may have tried to find an alternative tile. Finally on Thurs 2/14, they uncovered the tub and at first glance, it was ok. Then, I started looking. The tiles were not placed evenly, the grout was an ugly, dirty grey color and the tub was much smaller than the old tub. I was aware that the tub would be narrower. Although, that was not known until after the fact when they discovered the type of pipes that I had. Not sure why, but they needed to place a narrower tub. Wasn't told that interior would be smaller too. It fit the existing length, but was slanted in the back and narrowed towards the front, making the interior much smaller. I was never told that this was the tub that would be used. I assumed that it would be approximately the same size as the old one. That same evening, I opened the toilet to use it and found papertowels and tape had been disposed of in the toilet. On Friday, they placed a new floor and were finally done. I was finally able to use my tub. When I would use it, the water would cause the tiles to even darken more, which really is ugly. By Monday, the grout that they had placed around the tub, instead of caulk was cracking. When I went to the closet where the access panel is for the tub pipes, I found that they just put the cover in the closet and never replaced it. They also just placed the caps over the bolts holding the toilet (which they did finally replace with an equivalent to the old toilet which was only 5 yrs old) to the floor and never even secured them. I waited until Monday to call Mike the owner back requesting that he come over on Tuesday to view my concerns. He came over as planned and I pointed out all of my concerns. The only thing that would fix was the cracked caulking around the tub. When I said to him that he had never even apologized about all of my concerns, he just blew me off and said that he didn't see anything to apologize about and handed me my bill. Now I'm left with a tub that I don't like, chipped, cracked tile and a tile job that leaves alot to be desired!!
Description of Work: They replaced my tub and surrounding ceramic tile.

Response from Home Solutions of Maumee Valley INC
February 28, 2013 On Oct 1, 2012 I went to Member home to advise her on her tub that was peeling. She had her tub reglazed before and it was failing. I informed her that we don’t reglaze tubs because of the exact reason she had us out. I gave her a couple of options. The first option was to remove the existing 3-4 rungs of tile ((from the 50’s) from around the tub. We would then remove the tub which was also from the 50’s. A new tub would be installed and white tiles would be installed. The existing tiles were pink and no longer available for purchase. This is called a retro fit The second option would be to remove all wall tile and tub. We would then furnish and install all new tile and tub. On Jan. 17, 2013, the customer called and wanted to go forward with the retro fit, option 1. This was due to the cost difference in the two options. I went back to her home on the 17th of January to review again what the retro fit would involve and what the end appearance would look like. We would be blending white tiles in with her existing pink tiles. She agreed and signed a contract for the work and gave a down payment. Day 1 of work, while the technician was using a sledge hammer to remove steel tub, the hammer bounced off the tub and cracked the customer’s toilet. That afternoon, I hand delivered an upgraded toilet to be installed. Day 2 of work, it was found that the 50s tub that was removed from the tile and mortar bed was ¾” deeper than current tubs. I informed the customer to let us know where she purchased the original flooring so that we could purchase matching to fill in the void from the tub differences. Day 3, customer called me and said she found a floor she liked better than the old. I informed her that if she liked it better and would be happy with it, then I would cover the cost of the flooring and the labor as a courtesy. A few days before the job was completed, Member called me to ask what the cost would be if I removed all tile and installed all new tile on the walls. I gave her a price that was significantly lower than we would normally charge. Once again, she decided not to remove and install new tile on all walls, even though the price was at company cost. This price adjustment was another courtesy extended to her. The initial tech that was at her home was a new hire which did not follow our protocol of laying down canvas runners. He was removed from the job and a veteran tech was sent out to replace him. During this time, I was personally there at her home twice during the work. Each time I was there, canvas runners were in place from the front door to her bathroom. I also went to her home to clean up the garage area which was used for tile cutting, based on the weather conditions prohibiting us from being outside. I was there again on two separate occasions in the evening to review and reiterate the retro fit process with Member. On the last visit to her home to do a final review and to collect final payment, she asked me if I could send Ryan or another tech back to re caulk an area on back of tub. I told her yes and left the final invoice with her. I informed her she could pay the final tech when caulking was completed. The next morning, Ryan called me from her home and informed me she wasn’t going to pay him the final amount due. I then called the customer myself and she told me she would pay me a little bit here and there when she was ready to pay. The customer has requested a $500.00 refund. While I would be happy to refund her the $500.00 for her unhappiness, I would prefer to retile the entire bathroom and only charge her for the labor. We will supply the materials at no charge. I would like for her to be happy with the final outcome. I have left a voicemail for her and am awaiting her reply.

Started well untill the drywall finisher didnt return on following day. Was told job would take 5 days. Ended up being 10 and wasnt finished before holiday as promised repeatedly. Solid surface shower walls had to be cut 12"off off top because they sisnt realize the pieces couldnt fit through door. Exhaust fan wasnt properly vented. Light fixture didnt work. Shower sidnt work. Door rubbed on floor and couldnt open/close. Sink cabinet was cracked/split. Drywall mudding and texturing was sub-par. Shower doors werent ordered. Switch covers were missing. Final install date, the crew showed up and informed us the flooring was discontinued. They told us to go shopping and pick up new flooring and paint. When we returned, they didnt have materials to install it. We had to go to work for the day and they were rushing to finish job that day and demanded payment before we were able to inspect final project. 5 followup trips and job was finally complete. With adjustment to price of projec i was expecting close to $300 refund and only recieved $100.

We had 3 separate areas of our kitchen ceiling, each small to medium in size, that were damaged and needed replaced. I left a message with the secretary at Home Solutions, and Mike called back the same day to discuss the problem. He came out to the house at my first available time and gave a written estimate for repairing the drywall and finishing the ceiling so that it would blend with existing surfaces. He had very good attention to detail, including cosmetic issues. His crew was available within a few days, and Mike showed good followup and urgency on getting the work done for us. When one of the damaged areas was removed, it was discovered that an electric wire wasn't enclosed, creating a possible safety hazard, and also a drain pipe extended down too far and was causing the bulging of the drywall. Mike was very straightforward and honest in explaining the issues and the pros/cons for whether to repair them. Mike had a plumber come out to evaluate; it was decided that there were no good options for replacing the pipe, and so the drywall was fitted to compensate for it. The drywaller then returned on another day to repair the holes that were made previously. Unfortunately, it was a different drywaller and there were communication issues re: what work was to be done. This resulted in only 2 of the 3 areas being repaired and the texture not matching the ceiling. When I arrived home and discovered this, I called Mike, who answered the phone personally even though it was 6:00pm. When I told him what had happened, he explained the issue of the first drywaller not being available and the second drywaller apparently not understanding what was to be done. He said he would come out to the house personally the next day with the drywaller, and they would get the problem fixed. This was exactly what happened. When I arrived home the next day, the third area had been replaced, and the entire area of all 3 repairs was finished beautifully. There was even a note from the drywaller with his phone number, saying to call him if I had any concerns. I cannot be any happier with the repair. We did have a problem in the repair process, but it was handled very efficiently, professionally, and with great attention by both Mike and his drywaller to making sure I was happy with the work. As a final praise, when I received the bill in the mail today, it included a self-addressed STAMPED envelope for my payment. I felt it reflected the consideration and attention to detail that was shown throughout the work.
Description of Work: Removed 3 damaged areas of drywall in the kitchen ceiling; replaced with new drywall; finished all edges and textured the surface to match the rest of the ceiling. He also pointed out an electrical concern, and he brought out a plumber to evaluate a pipe position.

Overall, the process and completion of work as agreed upon went very well.
Description of Work: I had one half bath completely remodeled and my full bath partially remodeled. I had new flooring put in my home office and the office was patched and painted as well. I also had my main room partially repainted and mirrors removed. I had electrical work done in my home office as well. The workers were excellent in the quality and care shown in their work. A couple of the products put in my bathrooms were not of the quality I prefer but I did not request that I select what was installed. The toilet in the downstairs bathroom is not of the standard I expected nor is the medicine cabinet in my upstairs bathroom. Having noted this I certainly can recommend Home Solutions for remodeling and if I have more work to be done that HS is suited for I will call for an estimate and employ the company again. I suggest you go over what exactly you are to receive in home remodeling. Overall the estimate and work went nicely.

We are so glad I found Home Solutions on Angie's List! We chatted with Mike about a month and a half ago about our bathroom remodel and he said they'd start in mid-May. Sure enough he called me the first week of May and said they're almost ready to begin. He estimated that it would take about a week and it was indeed 6 or 7 days from start to finish. They gutted the room and installed a new tub with surround, toilet, vanity, lights, took out a tall cabinet and reframed the room, new floor and paint all around. They were professional and worked clean. Since this was my first remodel I don't think I asked good questions as to what was expected of me. I was a little rushed to shop for towel bars, lights etc. because I didn't know exactly when they needed them. However, Mike is a very good communicator and was easy to reach by phone and email. That's a plus. Hey also suggested options to give us choices as to how much or how little we wanted to do without pressuring us. They even noticed that there was an issue with our kitchen faucet and replaced that quickly for little cost! We would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends!

Men were on time and gutted the bath - took out all old tub, vanity and toilet. Took out old flooring. Took 3 days to get everything in, drywall, etc. I was pleased with that part. There were times when they did not have correct information that was given to me. And things took longer than expected. Confusion with paint, etc. But they worked it out. I was told I would not have to pay for a new faucet for the vanity sink because the worker was able to fix the old but I am being charged for a new faucet. We were told we could take a bath or shower after the 3rd day (could not take shower because they took the old shower rod and did not replace till later) but when we did we found that the drain pipe was not hooked up in the basement and water gushed all over our basement floor. They came out immediately and fixed it. The next day we found that the vanity sink was leaking, called again, they came out and fixed it. The bathroom door will not shut, needs to be shaved down and the faucet in the tub does not shut off while the shower is going. They said they would set up a time to come out and fix these but have not heard back from them as yet. My bathroom does look much better and the quality of the products they used were up to standard with the exception of the faucet in the tub. The men that did the work were very thorough (with the exception of the plumbing) and very careful cleaning up. They tried to make things right when things went wrong, which happens when you rip up a 1949 house. Very nice young men.
Description of Work: Took up old flooring in bathroom, replaced old tub with new, replace any bad flooring (not sure if this was done, bathroom door will not shut), any bad drywall. Replaced tub surround. New toilet, vanity and sink. New flooring, trim and paint. New fixtures for bath and sink.

Mike's electrician arrived on time and immediately started to diagnose the problem. After checking voltages, breakers, and switches the source of the problem still wasn't obvious. He then decided to remove the light fixture to get better access to the box. Inside the box he found a cracked wire connector (53 years old) that had obviously gotten hot and was sparking. This could have caused a major fire. I was very impressed the analytical capabilities of the young man. I wish I had gotten his name so that I could give him proper recognition.
Description of Work: Our light fixture in the kitchen and over the range stopped working and emitted a "crackling" sound. No breakers were tripped.

Both projects went very smoothly. James did a wonderful job. He was very polite and cleaned up each day. James worked hard every day to complete both projects. We were told both jobs could take a week or so and they finished within 7 days. James also took care in pointing out an issue with the tub we purchased and knew we wouldn't be happy with the defect. Fortunately Lyons was able to put a rush on the special order tub and we only lost two days on the project. The remodel turned out better than expected and we are very happy with the results. We had Bathfitters and Toledo Bath out to quote us and are very happy we decided to go with Home Solutions. The price was affordable and the quality top notch. The owner Mike Phillips is a very nice guy and did not pressure us to buy. He also stopped by at the end of the project to inspect the work. We will not hesitate to recommend Home Solutions to our friends and family. Home Solutions will also be the first company we call when we add more remodeling projects.
Description of Work: Home Solutions performed labor to add a toilet and shower in our basement and tore out and added a whirlpool tub and surround in our master bathroom. We provided the materials.

We had another company come out to look at the roof who said there was nothing wrong with the roof. I wouldn't use that company again. This company said the roof was rotten underneath. We have used this company before, and they did good work.
Description of Work: They did some work on our roof.

Mike the owner, who is a very nice person, arrived at our home and measured the floors and gave us an estimate.I told him that his material estimate was 300 square feet less than 2 other estimates by other companies so he measured again and affirmed that his measurements were correct. He said he was putting his best man James on our project.James showed up with the flooring and informed me that Mikes measurements were wrong so our estimate jumped up a few hundred dollars.James is very courteous and hard working but because he is Mikes main man he was not able to stay on our project every day because he had to work on a room addition at another house. This stretched our project out over a month.I will say that they are very thorough and professional in their conduct but our flooring though beautiful, has lots of high spots in every room and the bottom of the door jambs in 2 of the rooms were cut way too high leaving unsightly gaps.I would not recommend Home solutions for hardwood floor installation.I believe it would have been better to employ the services of someone who specializes in flooring to insure the best outcome.
Description of Work: They installed hickory hardwood flooring in 3 rooms

Response from Home Solutions of Maumee Valley INC
When I met with the homeowner to sign the work order, I informed him that we were in the middle of a large addition and with it being mid winter, we could only work on his floor when the weather disallowed us from being at the addition. I also stated that we may have to do separate rooms at different times., we were in agreement when work order was signed. Our efforts to accommodate him were greatly affected by good weather which is very uncommon for this area in winter. Yes, I did miscalculate the customer supplied wood a bit short. The wood was in stock locally and did not have to be special ordered. I did not charge any additional for us picking up, delivering and installing the additional wood due to my error. The home is a newer home which had irregularities in the floor joists which had an affect on the flat laying of the sub floor which in turn created the high spots.I did speak to the homeowner about removing the sub floor and shaving down the floor joists. He declined this work due to cost. I was unaware of the door casings being cut to high and have contacted the homeowner to reinstall new casings.

Overall was good. Glad to have a referal of someone that was willing to restreach my carpet which many companies would prefer not to do.
Description of Work: I had Home Solutions out for an estimate on painting a couple rooms in a rental unit. The man that came out was on time and professional. Offered advise what to paint and what not to bother with which impressed me. He also refered me to a person that could fix my carpeting. Worked out well however the price for the paiting was just too much for me to spend. The estimate was for $550 or so... just two rooms.

I contacted Mike Phillips at Home solutions and he responded immediately. Mike even e- mailed me in a followup when it took me a while to find the right fan, just to make sure everything was going well. He sent his electrician Josh out for an estimate and Josh even arranged to meet me early in the morning to install the fan at my convenience. Could not be happier with the complete experience. I will always call Home Solutions for my Home remodeling projects. I will definitely recommend them to anyone with a project. Steve Gorrell

Power source unlimited, Mike Pettit @ at 419 260-0002 and a two man team Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 to finish up on Sunday to hook up stove and dryer and made a call back to look at charred phone jack.
Description of Work: Changed new line, doughnut module relocated on side of house, new circuit fuse box and wiring but did not label box. We have to, but I don't know if that is so. Our phone was fried by the neutral line disengaging during a storm by a tree limb falling.
