Description of Work: I purchased the Big Deal for a kitchen remodel design for $49.00. During the initial phone conversation with Mike, I indicated that I was interested in removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and making one large kitchen. From his tone, I got the impression that he wasn't thrilled with that plan. He came at the appointed time to view and measure the kitchen and dining room. Upon arrival, one of the first things out of his mouth was to ask me how soon I was planning on remodeling. I hadn't hired him for a remodel, but none the less I responded saying I was in the middle of bathroom project and wouldn't consider the kitchen until the bath was complete or atleast until after the first of the year. As soon as I said that I didn't have immediate plans for the kitchen, his tone and demeanor changed. He didn't seem to interested in my kitchen design. I attemped to tell him some of the things I wanted (for example, an under-the-counter freezer drawer and he said he had never heard of those), so he could incorporate them into the design. He did show me some kitchen cabinetry and I indicated what I would like. However, he kept steering the conversation back to my bath project, asking if he could provide any services for that. I did show him the bathroom...the toliet was disconnected, tile flooring removed down to the subfloor and the walls ready to spackle and paint. Within less than 5 minutes he quoted me a price to finish the bath. Nothing was written down and there were no measurements or calculations done. In my experience with home repairs, I have never had anyone look at a project and instantly spit out a quote. At that point, he was finished and left. A few days later, he called me with a lower quote to finish my bath project. I informed him that I didn't want to spend my project dollars in the bath, but rather in the kitchen and therefore, declined his offer. After about three weeks, I emailed him requesting a status on the kitchen design. He responded with a design that looked like it was done on very primitive, outdated software. Nothing I asked for was incorporated into his design. |I have copied and pasted the emails between us. This Big Deal was a complete waste of my time, money and effort. As you can read below, Mike indicated that the design was a first step...and he would return. In my opinion, all the details could have been laid out in the first meeting, but he was too busy trying to sell me on finishing the bath. I believe I am owed a refund of $49.00. | |Emails... | |judy | |what I sent you was the first step. lets get together so I can get your input to create the final plan. let me know whats convenient for you. |thanks |mike | | | |On Tue, Sep 10, 2013 at 9:07 AM, wrote: | | |----- Forwarded by Judith A Skeele/Nationwide/NWIE on 09/10/2013 11:21 AM ----- | |Mike, | |The highlighted section below has been copied directly from the Angie's List Big Deal email I received: | | This offer includes: |Full set of 3-D perspective drawings of your kitchen custom design to be delivered to you via email |Floor plan design |Cabinet design |Flooring layout and backsplash design |Lighting layout |Professional in-home measurements taken by a design team member | |As far as the pictures that you sent, I was wondering why I don't see the following : | | *flooring layout | *backsplash design | *lighting layout | *cream colored cabinets (like the sample you showed me) | *stove/cook top | *two of the renderings do not even show the kitchen sink | |Also, it doesn't look like there is much room to open the dishwasher as the island may be in the way....can't really tell from these. | |I can't tell if there is still a soffit above the cabinets, but it appears that way to me as there is not much space above the window. | |I wanted the kitchen and dining room to be made into one big kitchen, but it's hard to imagine since the whole space is not represented in the pictures. | |I don't care for the traffic flow that is created when cabinets are put on the back wall by the pantry. As soon as you turn in from the hallway, there will be the double oven (with doors that open and close), the panty (which has a door opening into the hallway) and now an additional cabinet. Not to mention that the basement door, bath door and family room are right in the same area. That is too much activity for that small area and it would be very congested. The traffic flow would be terrible. As I mentioned when you were here, I would like cabinets on the side wall in what is now the dining room. This would open up the area and create better traffic flow. | |Based on what you sent, I don't really get a good representation of what the kitchen would actually look like. I have to ask, is this representative of what you would normally charge $499 for? The graphics seem pretty outdated. | |Judy | | | | | |From: MIKE DOOPER |To: skeelej@nationwide.com |Date: 09/09/2013 04:33 PM |Subject: Fwd: kitchen | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | | |---------- Forwarded message ---------- |From: MIKE DOOPER |Date: Mon, Sep 9, 2013 at 1:30 PM |Subject: kitchen |To: skeelej@nationwide.com | | |hi judy |please see kitchen designs. let me know what you think |thanks |mike | |[attachment "skeel1.bmp" deleted by Judith A Skeele/Nationwide/NWIE] [attachment "skeel2.bmp" deleted by Judith A Skeele/Nationwide/NWIE] [attachment "skeel3.bmp" deleted by Judith A Skeele/Nationwide/NWIE] | |
