Since then the company has been responsive to any questions and Shawn once came out to inspect a sump pump issue which was quickly alleviated.
Companies like this are there for one reason, to take your money.....
However, on Saturday, August 9th, Everdry was a no-show. I called Everdry around 11am to ask if they were still coming and they said no because they tried to reach me a few days before the appointment, but didn't, and since I didn't and quot;reconfirmand quot; my appointment they cancelled it. I explained to them that I was never told I would have to and quot;reconfirmand quot; a set appointment, and if that was the case, they should have left a voicemail to that effect. Now, a few days before August 9th, I had a missed call from a number I didn't recognize, but they didn't leave a voicemail, so I figured it was a wrong number or spam call. I know there was nothing wrong with my voicemail, since several of the other contractors I had scheduled for August 9th were able to leave a message.
Anyway, I rescheduled for August 20th at 7pm. I told them that unless I called to cancel, me or my husband would be at the appointment. I don’t make appointments and then not keep them without cancelling them. Since I still haven’t moved in yet, I am still only at the house when I schedule an estimate. Everdry did not call to confirm my August 20th appointment, but I imagined that was because of what I told them. However, once again, Everdry was a no-show. I'm glad we had double-booked another estimate, otherwise, my husband and I would have wasted our time going to the house last night after a busy day at work.
We have work to be done, but needless to say, Everdry DEFINETELY will not be getting our business.
Everything is good. They were good in responding to us. Overall experience, I will give them a B. I am probably not using them again in the future.
We don't think that the renovations are needed.
Later in the day, I contacted the company that had done some other basement work for me to ask their opinion if I needed this companies service. Afterwords, I called EverDry back and again tried to get them to cancel the appointment. She insisted that another opinion is always helpful. I told her that I did not contact them for help and that I was happy with the companies I had been working with. I finally had to lose my temper with the lady and insist that the appointment be cancelled.
These two salesmen convinced me that my house was in danger of the basement walls collapsing. They used diagrams and told me that my basement was in Stage 4 condition (using cancer terms was also frightening) which meant the walls could collapse at any time. They asked me if my sump-pump had ever turned on, to which I answered and quot;no.and quot; They told me that was an indicator that all the drainage around my house was not working and there was a collapsed drainage pipe.
In all the time I have been in the house, during many rainstorms, there has never been any leakage into my basement. These salesmen told me that because the previous owner painted the walls, this was also an indication that the walls had cracks that were in danger of collapsing.
I signed on to have the work done at a cost of over $30,000 (including interest). Within the 3 days, I called to cancel. They said they would come visit again and understood I wanted to cancel the entire contract. A different (and good-looking) salesman was with one of the previous salesmen came to call. Although I told them I wanted to cancel, they used high-pressure sales techniques with me, even knowing that I did not want the work done. Again, I was told how my house was in terrible condition and that the E-Z Breathe System would help with all the mold and damage being done to the air in my home (using my Granddaughter as a potential sufferer) and how this deal would never come again.
I felt alone and insecure and I believe the salesmen used this against me. They used the words and quot;I am not holding a gun to your head, but I need to recoup the money my company has already spent on this job.and quot; I was told that my original contract had not been accepted due to my credit rating, and they were going to be calling upon me anyway to tell me the contract could not be accepted, but I canceled before they had a chance to get back with me. I felt very guilty and actually ashamed that I caused these people so much trouble.
They dropped the price even more (than the first time the salesmen visited) but raised the interest rate so that the final bill would be over $36,000 with interest) but convinced me it was the best deal I could ever hope for. Unfortunately, I agreed.
The next day a man came to install the E-Z Breathe System - a very small plastic fan with a plastic exhaust going to the hole in my basement to an outdoor plastic cover with leavers. When they came to do all the work (yes, tearing up my basement and outside the foundation of the house) my son turned them away as per my request and told them I did not want any work done. They have since tried to bill $3,000 for the E-Z Breathe System. I said I cannot afford that and have been contacted and told they would come and take the system out - I have not heard from them since.
I am not sure how this will all end ... I feel as though I was taken advantage of from the first moment. In my thoughts, if these were truly professionals who know their jobs, they would have realized that VA approval, insurance approval, and inspection prior to contract would have never have gone through if the basement was in such dire straits. If they were HONEST, they would have left it at that.
I feel that I was preyed upon, as a disabled veteran and woman alone, I was a perfect target. They took $288 from me and I do not expect to see that again, but I do not want to pay $3,000 for a system that could be bought at the hardware store for less than $100. I do not know what damage they will do to my credit rating or what may happen in the future. No one has come to take the E-Z Breathe System out - it has NOT ONCE come on to remove excess humidity from the basement. There have been many storms since they have come and gone - not one drop of water is in the basement.
I feel at fault ... in that I believed them ... it was counsel from good friends that were ahgast at what was happening and told me to immediately cancel. I only wish they had accepted my original desire to cancel instead of bringing a more intense salesman to frighten me more. Unless one has a certified home inspector at your side during the evaluation this company provides, I would stay away from them. They are not the knowledgable people they claim to be an are charging so much that they must be receiving great rewards from those who agree to have the work done. Good for those who are happy with the work, but I do hope you got a second opinion first.
Well, it has now been 9 years, the basement wall has not collapsed and my basement is still pretty dry. After their visit, I called Rogers and Phillips and both said the basement wall was NOT going to collapse and I did not need to do anything. Rogers said to put strips of duct tape on some of the cracks to monitor any movement. Those pieces of tape are still there!
Even though this occurred nine years ago, I remember it quite well because I have told this story to many people over the years..
