+ -1 moreI appreciated that Jim was very honest in assessing my furnace and did not try to pressure me on a new heating system. He also made every effort to make sure the remedy he suggested would be covered under warranty. Tom is also a very friendly technician, did his work efficiently and neatly. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience. I get very nervous about home repairs because they are often very costly and some contractors use high pressure sales tactics to get you to spend more than necessary. All Knight is definitely a top-rate company and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I called All Knight Heating and Cooling because they are one of the HVAC vendors with my home warranty and because of the high ratings they have on Angie's List. My central heating system is about 30 years old and was giving very low heat in the master bedroom. They scheduled me for the same day (the day before Thanksgiving!) and Tom Lease came out to look at my furnace. He made some recommendations, answered ALL my questions, and explained he or the company owner, Jim Holstein, would return to complete the work and give me an estimate on a new furnace, which I requested. Jim came out a couple days later, told me my furnace still ran fine (just very inefficient) and suggested a new pulley and belt to increase the furnace's blower speed and fix the problem. He also gave me an estimate on a new system, which I told him I might do in the future. His estimate seemed very reasonable. Finally, Tom came back out a few days later to install the new pulley and belt (covered under warranty).

+ -1 moreTheir service man came out that day and tried to figure out what the problem was. After several experiments we were able to get the furnace working. It wasn't really fixed, but at least we had heat for the weekend. The owner of the company came out on Monday with the service man and figured out the problem and fixed furnace. Everything worked out fine.

Then, Tom the service man was helpful, advising us to change the type of filters we were using and how to better insulate for winter.

+ -1 moreThis company comes out as quickly as possible when you have a problem. The office calls and tells you they are on their way. They arrived promptly for the installation and covered their shoes when they came into the house. I was amazed at how well they had cleaned up when they finished. We had excellent communication with Mr. Holstein and all his staff. All of the employees, we have seen, are courteous and friendly. I would certainly use this company again and I have already recommended them to my daughter and neighbors.
Description of Work: I first called them when our air conditioner was not working. They fixed it temporarily and Jim Holstein called with the price of an evaporator coil. I asked him to give me a price on a new air conditioner. He came out and gave me a price on an air conditioner, and furnace also, at my request. We decided to go ahead with the work but asked him to wait a few weeks for a time most convenient for us. I called him before installation and asked to have a Media Air Cleaner installed along with the AC and furnace. We are very pleased with the new units and the professionalism of this company. We did not use the thermostat provided with this new furnace but kept the programmable unit we had. They wrote a refund check for the cost of the thermostat the very next day.

+ -1 moreExcellent. This was a home warranty claim so I was limited on the companies. When my unit broke, I called another company, who diagnosed the problem. It was an old unit, and I wanted to replace it rather than fix it. Then I called Jim at All Knight for an estimate. He was able to have the new unit installed before the first company could even get a sales person out to talk to me. Jim, the owner, personally handles most of the set up and made sure I got what I needed - and quickly. His price was also better.
Description of Work: Replaced central air unit with new Trane unit.

+ -1 morePerformed work on time and at estimated cost and helped with rebate paperwork. I was particular about equipment we purchased and JIM HOLSTEIN provided all the information, brochures, education and alternatives I asked for. Due to my changing my mind after I did more research on the net and receiving additional information from JIM HOLSTEIN. He did not mind preparing an extra bid. I recently had to call for service work on the humidifier - it was not working. They had a man here the next business day. He found the nozzle clogged and cleaned it. Humidity was back up in a couple of hours. The price was in excess of $6000, but that will not mean much without a detailed list of materials and labor. I took bids from 2 other Angie's List members but chose All-Knight on price and their agreement to install duct work as I requested. I feel All-Knights worked closely with me to see I got what I wanted. I would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Installed new furnace, thermostat, humidifier and air conditioner. Installed additional duct work to better balance house cold spots.

+ -1 moreAmazingly, I was able to get a tech to come on the next day which was the day before Christmas eve. The tech was very knowledgeable and had a universal Ignition Control module in stock. The part alone was $340 which is probably what all these companies mark it up to. I think overall the cost was reasonable. It's probably just expensive to get a furnace repaired.
Description of Work: Symptom: Furnace would not ignite. Tech came in and diagnosed the problem as the Ignition Control module.

Description of Work: AN ALL KNIGHT REPRESENTATIVE DID AN INSPECTION OF THE FURNACE INSIDE THE HOUSE AND A/C UNIT ON THE OUTSIDE. HE CHECKED THE FREON LEVEL AND FOUND IT TO BE A LITTLE LOW SO HE FILLED IT TO THE PROPER LEVEL. WHEN I CALLED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT A FEW DAYS. ORIGINALLY I WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT DAY, BUT THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS IN MY AREA THAT DAY AND CALLED TO SEE IF IT WAS OKAY TO COME OVER AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THAT WAS A NICE SURPRISE SINCE THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN 90+ FOR A FEW DAYS.

THE TECHNICIAN THEN CAME OUT AND SHOWED US THAT HE HAD TAKEN OUT THE FILTER AND REPLACED IT. HE DIDN'T ASK US IF WE WANTED THAT DONE, WE HAD JUST REPLACED THE FILTER THE DAY BEFORE. I ASKED ABOUT THE 10% DISCOUNT AND WAS TOLD THAT WE COULDN'T GET THE DISCOUNT WITHOUT A COUPON. FINANCIALLY, THEY OFFERED THE BEST DEAL - WE HAVE HOMEGUARD INSURANCE FROM THE PURCHASE OF OUR HOME, AND WERE LIMITED WITH WHICH COMPANIES WE COULD CHOOSE IF HOMEGUARD WOULD PAY ($1200) TO REPLACE OUR FURNACE. THE WORKERS COMPLETED THE JOB & CLEANED UP WELL. THEY RETURNED WHEN WE IDENTIFIED ONE PROBLEM THAT HAD NOT BEEN CORRECTED. SO FAR OUR FURNACE IS RUNNING WELL AND OUR GAS BILLS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER!

+ -1 moreTHEIR PRICES WERE LOWER THAN TYPICAL FOR BETTER-QUALITY UNITS AND HIGHER THAN TYPICAL FOR LOWER-QUALITY UNITS. WE PICKED A MID-RANGE UNIT WHICH WAS COMPETITIVELY PRICED. THEY INSTALLED THE UNIT 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND NEAT. THEY ALSO UNEXPECTEDLY INSTALLED A NEW PAD AND ELECTRICAL SERVICE BOX. A SERVICEMAN ALSO RUSHED RIGHT OVER TO REFILL THE COOLANT (WHICH HAD LEAKED OUT) IN MY OLD AC UNIT THE NIGHT BEFORE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW UNIT AT NO CHARGE. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT THE INSTALLER DID NOT LEAVE AN OPERATING MANUAL AND IT HAS NOT YET ARRIVED (A WEEK LATER).
