During the inspection, Mr. Herbert broke the cover of my septic tank, buried it to hide the damage, and did not tell me about it. I noticed the broken cover the next day. We contacted our realtor and told her to cancel his follow-up appointment to pick up his radon test kit. We did not want him inside our home unsupervised. We told him that he could pick up the kit later that day after work when we would be home. When Mr. Herbert arrived at our house he yelled at my wife and I and threatened us. He ordered us to let him into the house so that he could get his radon kit. I did not want to let him inside because he is a large man, he was yelling very loudly and he was very angry. I got the kit from the basement and brought it to him on the front porch, locking the door with my wife and three children inside. Mr. Herbert became more angry saying that I had no right to touch his kit. I asked him about the damage to my septic. He admitted that he broke the cover and hid the damage, but claimed that it was "not very important" because the cover was not expensive. Then, Mr. Herbert gave me an invoice for $120 to pay for his time to travel to my house (about 5 miles away from his office) to get the kit. He continued to yell at me. When I told him I would not pay his invoice he said, "I'll get your money" and left. My wife and I immediately called the Sheriff's office and filed a report. The neighbors also called us about the disturbance. We're writing to warn other Angie's list members about Mr, Herbert and his business. We feel terrible that we trusted Mr. Herbert with our home and allowed him to be inside it unsupervised for more that 2 1/2 hours for the inspection. We really were not upset about the property damage. We were mostly upset about the fact that he hid it from us and then yelled and threatened us. The $120 invoice was also a terrible insult. His behavior was not only unprofessional and unethical, it was downright scary!
Description of Work: Jeff Herbert, the owner of The Inspection Group in Newark, conducted the inspection of my home which was for sale.
