They did a very through job and were very professional. They even cleaned up the crawl space, prior to encapsulating, of all debris which apparently even included parts that the cat had used as a litter box (unbeknown to us). We are very pleased with the job done.

The crew was prompt and careful to place plastic over things to keep the dust to a minimum. The crew foreman kept me informed of their progress and, at the end of the day would ask if I had any questions. He was quick to bring to my attention a problem with my plumbing when it was revealed that some pipes were connected properly. They and the plumber I hired worked together to resolve the issue.

The original sales call went well. They showed a video of the process defined the benefits of their system; Guaranteed not to mold seamless wall panels, no mess. We signed up for their Showcase home and agreed to on call scheduling which requires us to be available at any time within 3 days, he said it would be within 12 weeks. The salesman/consultant did a really nice design and showed us the product that would go on the wall. Well they did call to schedule within the 12 weeks and the contractor showed up when scheduled. The Contractor was very nice and professional and had some really good ideas. He is a sub contractor and not an employee of the company, that is apparently their model. The C rating for professionalism is for office staff and sales staff, the Sub-Contractor was very professional. The Good: - The contractor was punctual and flexible. He knew his stuff. He really did his best to remedy any issues, but some could not be remedied. - We have a mold guarantee, I hope they honor it if it's ever an issue. The Bad: - Apparently the product has been changed due to the covering on the panels falling off. My wife questioned this and that is when he told us about the covering issue. He assured us it was still mold proof and the lifetime mold guarantee was still good. The new material does not provide seam proof walls. it actually looks quite horrible at seams. I will upload pictures if allowed. The contractor came back multiple times to try to taper it in but it is still awful. The contractor explained it is because these panels are not tapered like drywall and the mud builds up causing a bump at the seams. He really tried to make it right. It is just not possible with this product as is. Apparently a lot of their installers are complaining about this. We simply gave up because we got tired of cleaning up drywall compound dust, and realized that physics would not allow for this product to be seamless. - The process is not mess free. their was drywall compound mud dust through our entire house for weeks. - The original design called for an open railing with spindles. The contractor did open the wall a bit but it is solid and does not have that open feel. - They never called back to schedule the showcase, I assume because they know if people see it the result they will not buy from them. I did get a call from someone in there office asking how things went and called back and left a voice mail stating the issues, and never heard back again. In hindsight I wish we would have gone with traditional drywall and the quote we got for half the price. For what we have we overpaid. If it was seamless I would have been happy with the price. However it looks horrible and is not worth any where near what was spent.

Reasonably priced compared to competition. Got more for my buck. Another company gave me a quote of $10,000 and advised it wouldn't 100% fix my problem "moisture." I would have had to buy an additional $1500 dehumidifier to be 100% fixed. Basement Guys were around $2,000 cheaper and I got the dehumidifier in the deal so all in all almost $3500 cheaper.

We would have been interested in moving forward with the Basement Guys; however, after this post-estimate experience, we may want to get other estimates prior to our final decision on whom to contract with.
Description of Work: We asked the basement guys to come out for a free assessment of our basement remodel that we are thinking of doing within the next 1-2 years. Everyone was pleasant, professional, had great ideas for our small space. The contractor was prompt, professinal, and courteous during the estimate appointment. However, ever since this estimate, we have received repeated phone calls from the call center pushing us to move forward with the project. We were were clear on our time lime and each time thereafter that they have called. Now, I just do not answer the phone.

It seemed to be going well and the estimator was very open to answering my questions, but I was not confident in his ability to assess the situation. I fear that his solution was what it was because of the tricky access to the back wall of the house.
Description of Work: Estimator was on time, but smelled a little of alcohol. He failed to identify, or didn't mention, one of the three cracks in the crawl space wall. He also misdiagnosed one of the two he did find.

Initial waterproofing and sump pump installation was a very positive experience. The remodeling of the lower level are was not a positive experience. Four separate crews worked on finishing our lower level after the waterproofing portion of the project. The work of the first two crews was unsupervised by management of The Basement Guys(TBG). After the third crew began we requested a walk through by the TBG operations supervisor which was was done, There was no improvement in the work done by the third crew. At that point we terminated the third crew. Their work of installing and finishing drywall, trim and painting was just too poorly done. We requested that TBG send an experienced carpenter and professional painter to finish the job, TBG agreed and sent a fourth crew. The fourth crew, a finish carpenter, tore out much of the previously installed trim work and did additional carpentry work to correct mistakes by the previous three crews, but the finish painting was still not done well. Painting by the prior crews was not done well as there was little surface preparation prior to painting, none of the wood trim was sanded or walls properly prepared before finish painting resulting in unsanded spackled areas, and debris in the paint on brand new drywall. As a result, we proposed to settle the job with TBG by reducing the contract price to allow for us to hire our own professional painting crew to finish the job. TBG agreed, and we terminated our relationship on December 11, 2012. Our project with The Basement Guys started about July, 10, 2012 and ended December 11, 2012, five months later.
Description of Work: Project in the Lower Level of our home: Waterproof lower level recreation room area, install sump pump in recreation room. In Lower Level recreation room, den and hallway: remove and replace drywall walls and ceiling, insulate walls and ceiling, update electrical wiring to code and install wiring for home theater system. Finish all of the above with trim and paint (flooring was not part of this contract.).

We were getting quotes to have the basement remodeled. Our basement remodel was consisting of 4 rooms and a full bath (rough-in was already in the floor. The rooms were workout, her craft room, my office, and a room for the kids' TV (xbox, games, etc.). We originally called 10 companies / individuals to come give us estimates on the project. The Basement Guys came out on a Tuesday, took measurements, and showed us their 'system'. They quoted us $47,000 for roughly 900 sq. feet. The gentleman then said with discounts and promotions, it would be around 40,000. This was $15,000 higher than the next highest quote. When I mentioned we had other quotes that were significantly less, he folded up his laptop, shook my hand and left. No written quote or estimate on the job. I had no idea what he was including into the quote. About a week later, I received a call from the Basement Guys that they looked over what he quoted and they themselves didn't understand what he quoted and asked if they could return. I liked the idea of their system so I agreed. Another gentleman showed up, took measurements, asked me questions about the project. After entering the information into his laptop, he verbally quoted me roughly $26,000. By this time, we had received all the other estimates from the other contractors, and the average cost (not including the bathroom fixtures) was under 18k. I began to ask what was included in the quote and it was a drop ceiling (not what we wanted - drywall was extra), 16 can lights (all other quotes were 20-24), with $100 / light for each additional. I told the gentleman I liked the system and the idea and that I would be making a decision the next weekend. I asked him to email me a written estimate so we can review it with the other estimates. I never received a written estimate, so we chose a different contractor.

I never received a written estimate, so we chose a different contractor. Why I rated the contractor the values: Overall: I think the system has a lot going for it, but the fact that twice I was not left with a written estimate, especially when it was generated on a PC left me wondering what they were quoting Price: First quote was excessive. No other way around it. Second quote was reasonable and we discussed financing the extra expense, but we never received a written estimate. Quality: Seemed worth them coming out to requote since it was a transferable warranty and all materials were mold resistant. Responsiveness: Very good. They even called to confirm appointments Punctuality: Both gentlemen showed up on time Professionalism: They were well prepared and know the system and able to give me a verbal quote right there. I understood they didn't have a printer (maybe they need to invest in portable printers? or use standard forms like other contractors) so I asked the 2nd gentleman to email me the estimate. I was never received any written estimate.

The Basement Guys came out to my house to give myself and my mother and an estimate on how much it would be for the work my basement needed. They gave us an estimate on basement waterproofing, repairing the concrete in my basement, as well as basement remodeling. They provided very insightful information and they are the perfect choice to make our basement a great living space. Everything was laid out in front of us so we could see how the process was going to happen. They provided everything we would need to know and we feel with The Basement Guys we are definitely getting the most for our money. We absolutely recommend!

This team was professional, neat, friendly, and competent. They arrived on time, did exactly what they said they would do, and they completed the job quickly. Our job was unusual, we thought, since our foundation dates back to the 1800's. But these guys seemed to have plenty of experience with old homes. Nothing seemed too odd or difficult. The first rain after they finished presented a small problem. They came out immediately, located the problem and fixed it. The big test came with the big storm "Sandy". Our yard was flooded nearly up to the foundation and there was never the slightest leak. This company, its crew, and its product are truly excellent. We would use them again in a heartbeat. It was expensive, but we are very happy with the finished product.
Description of Work: This was one of those cascading home improvement projects that we planned to do ourselves, but the more we dug, the more it became obvious we needed a professional. It began with the replacement of our basement door. After removing the old door and part of the framing, it became clear that the foundation brick was both crumbling and out of alignment on one side. I called the basement guys to do the foundation repair, and we thought we might ask them for an estimate to waterproof our (unfinished) basement as well. They came out promptly and gave an estimate for the whole job and the separate pieces as well. Other reviews for The Basement Guys did not like the hard sell for their waterproofing product. We went in to this knowing that we would get a salesman's pitch and we are not easily sold. We listened to the pitch as well as a detailed analysis of our basement issues and were given an estimate and time to mull it over. We decided to have the Basement Guys do the entire job. They squeezed us in as quickly as they could (since our basement had no door) and completed the entire job in three days. The job consisted of: 1. digging around the foundation, 2. jack hammering into the old basement floor drainage system 3. laying gravel and drain pipe in both the basement floor and around the outside foundation, 4. pulling out an old interior wall, 5. installing a new sump and battery back-up, 6. wrapping the entire basement in their waterproofing product, 7. repairing the foundation block, and 8. installing the new door.

Their price was quite a bit higher than other basement finishers. I felt like it was too "high-pressure" selling for me. (He made it seem like any other basement finishing product was crap and our basement was guaranteed to rot out if we went with someone else.) Also, he seemed to have a "take it or leave it" kind of attitude rather than trying to meet our needs. He did give us quotes for a couple of configurations, but I felt like he was very arrogant about their special product and rather than trying to help us figure out if that is what we needed, he just kind of told us that that is the only way to go. He didn't do anything wrong. I just wasn't left with a good feeling.

They were efficient, professional, on-time and did a very thorough job. We would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We have a very large basement and the mold/mildew problem was prevalent. The Basement Guys came in and removed all wallboard and insulation before actually waterproofing the basement. From there they removed the cement flooring that encircled the perimeter of the basement. When that was done, they poured clean gravel in that area. They laid the piping, installed two large sump pumps, and the necessary drains which exited from the interior piping. They then poured new concrete.
