Initially, they answered our calls and we were supposed to meet with the owner. We've had several reschedules and we've never met with him as he is always on vacation. We met with one of the supervisors and liked everything and signed a contract. We put the 1/3 of the total cost down and the only thing we've heard is that they've ordered the parts. I've called them several times and it is extremely hard to reach them.
Description of Work: We have been trying to get them to come out to do basement work for us.

They didn't charge us anything. They were on time. They worked and it was a very hard job. We were very lucky. We had a great supervisor overseer. He worked really hard. He made suggestions if we got it done to make sure that we wouldn't have any problems in the future. We didn't have any other issues with the service. They offered a great warranty.
Description of Work: We've used The Basement Guys for basement waterproofing because there was a leak on one corner. They came out and redid that area from the basement.
I called and left a message in the midafternoon requesting information on the installation of three standard size (32"x22") glass block windows in the basement of my home. I received a call back the next morning with them asking some clarifying questions as to the nature of the work. 3 basement windows installed at a residence. They ended the call, stating that this was not a job that they would do without it being a part of a larger project. No pricing was discussed, no services or additions came up - just a blanket statement stating that they were not interested in doing the work. Their "Services Include" section specifically states that they do glass block installation, and no minimum work requirement is stated in their company listing page. I am sorry that I wasted their time and mine inquiring into their services. By way of an apology, I will not be contacting them when I plan on finishing the rest of my basement, since I am too small of a customer for them to consider.

Larry and Demitrie showed up on time every day except one due to traffic issues (LOL happens around here). Anyway they got right to work and found the cause of our issues which ended up costing us a little more than the estimate but there's no way they could have known what was underground outside my wall. Anyway they showed a lot of concern for what they were doing and doing it as well as they could. After the job was completed and the foundation was backfilled we got tons of rain and we have a totally dry basement but the dirt as you can imagine settled a bunch all at once and so the gutters needed to be reattached and some additional dirt brought in and this is where great reviews are earned. Told them what happened and they said we'll be there by Friday and I came home on Wednesday to everything being fixed. I'd recommend them to anyone. I would however make a suggestion to the salesman to do a little better job up front showing some pictures of what the carbon fiber straps look like installed (un-painted and painted). We don't mind the look but can see how some might at least until they paint it.

The salesmen that came out and sold me the product showed me the product called the "Tuxedo System" which consists of four inch pieces of foam that would be used. I signed the contract and gave them $6,200 to start (requested 1/3 down payment.) The salesman stated that this was a three week job to complete barring any problems with any/all needed city inspections. However, my project started October 1, 2013 and ended (incomplete) in mid-February 2014. Company began contracted work on October 1, 2013. The workers were friendly and cooperative. After installing the steel supports I questioned their using two pieces of 3/4 inch Styrofoam for the insulation instead of the four inch solid foam product I was sold. They stated they no longer use that product as sold to me. He assured me that everything would be completed to my satisfaction. At another point while calling him to again express concerns and the fact that I felt I had reasons to consider litigation based on many issues presented him he/we talked about a monetary settlement. I stated I was more concerned with satisfactory completion of the project and in a timely manner rather than a settlement at this time. We agreed that if his men would perform extra work that I would have to pay other workers to do that was not included in contract I would be satisfied with that instead of money. They did do some extra work for me but certainly not worth the money offered in a monetary settlement. They did do some extra work for me but certainly not worth the money offered in a monetary settlement. As work continued, I noticed one door out of the five that they installed was dragging over the carpet and I asked if they could plane the bottom to remedy the issue. Instead of planning one door, they CUT OFF the bottoms of all five doors and now four of the doors are too short. Another instance, since their HVAC contractor installed new/extra duct work to heating/cooling system I have had issues with uneven heating throughout my condo. A friend was burned by a HOT floor register in one bedroom when we were moving furniture away from the heat source due to concerns of possible fire issues and the extreme heat in one bedroom. I could no longer sleep in there because of the uncontrollable high heat. When the heat issue was presented to the workers they disconnected my booster fan which was installed many years ago to add heat to the bedroom over the garage. This was their solution to the heat problem in the one bedroom. I will now have to pay someone to re-connect it for summer air conditioning. Per the signed contract I was also supposed to receive a free dehumidifier and I have not gotten it. More than once I asked them to call back their HVAC contractor to make corrections to the HVAC system. Their response was "NO" and all I needed to do was make adjustments to the dampers of the duct work (now concealed under ceiling panels) until I found a comfortable solution. ??? There were times that the workers did not show up for work as scheduled and two weeks when no work was done at all. nearing final completion of my project I was asked to sign off on the work with the understanding that (per Luke Secrest & Mike Crater) the work would continue until I was completely satisfied. I did sign off thinking I could believe them. How foolish/stupid of me. Luke and Mike came out shortly after this to discuss work still needing to be done and told me that "the doors will not be replaced" but were willing to "repair them"??? and did not address the HVAC issues and said there is a dehumidifier scheduled for me. Luke said he would call me that afternoon to schedule work and he did not. That is the last I've heard from them, mid-February.
Description of Work: Finish the basement with the Tuxedo System consisting of more than wood studs and drywall. I was told the owner was Luke Secrest listed as initial contact person, however now it is listed as Robert Secrest on AL.com

Response from The Basement Guys
The Basement Guys settled all issues that arose with install process and even went above and beyond. We contacted the HVAC installer and he went to look at the issue. He stated that the issue was not caused by the new HVAC and would be a separate scope of work. The issues with the doors occurred after the member signed her completion certificate and we had completed our work. The issue is that the carpet and tile were installed improperly (not by The Basement Guys). To be accommodating we agreed to install door sweeps at no charge as long as the member purchased the material. She was supposed to call us when she had the material and we have yet to receive any calls. We are currently resolving this dispute with the BBB as well.

The estimate was a little high but the quality of work was worth it. It does also have a lifetime guarantee with their work. I do have a minor complaint. There was an issue with communication. It took them awhile to return my phone calls. The day that the work was to be started they just showed up to my house and did not call before they came out. The work is great it is just the communication that I have a problem with.

Salesman stated "You'll never know they were here!" I knew! Carpet snagged, concrete work so bumpy, tile could not be re-laid, dirt everywhere, walls scuffed. Called them to come back and fix. They returned by didn't fix. The downspout extensions they provided were hideous. They said the ones I wanted were out of stick. I found them and bought.

Brian(lead guy) and Jim(worker) arrived at 9am - scheduled time 8-9am - traffic on beltway bad that morning. Brian reviewed all paperwork and signatures. Put out sheet of paper for any questions I had during the day. I showed them crawl spaces in basement area and Brian explained what they were going to do. Also stated that I would see a big difference once done. They went to work. I work from home so would go down and check on progressand see if they needed anything. Brian was very helpful and would explain what they were doing and where they were in the process. - Crawl space encapsulations involves taking out the insulation currently on the walls, taking out the plastic lining on rock floor of crawl space, checking and reparing any cracks in foundation, putting down piping around paremitor of crawl space and venting it to the outside, putting down tidy wall encapsulation prroduct on walls, floor and support pillars and sealing peices together(special tape). They also put spray foam insulation around exterior band board of foundation. They put down plastic where they needed to walk upstairs leading to the basement and on the basement stairs - tapped plastic down. They cleaned up everything and once again explained everything they did and showed me exterior vents they drilled. Brian asked if i had any further questions gave me more paper work to sign as job was completed and here I am filling out this sheet. They departed about 6:30 pm Very satisfied with all aspect of this job and with Dave Walter sales person who quoted the job.
Description of Work: Crawl space encapsulation and spray foam - see below.
The gentleman that came to see us originally - Dave - was very professional and told us exactly what was wrong and what was needed to fix the water leakage in our basement. Our house is 100+ years old and the drainage that was originally placed had quit working. The team came out and dug a "mote" around the interior walls of our unfinished basement, placed new piping and a sump pump, laid gravel and concrete in the space to secure it. All of this is 100% guaranteed that we will no longer have water in our basement due to leakage. They also sprayed a mold/mildew remover and vapor barrier that has taken away the awful smell. The crew were very professional and courteous. I think it surprised them that I offered coffee, ice water or juice while they worked. They always treated me with the utmost respect, which I appreciate so much. It is so nice to know that if I were to ever have a water issue in the basement due to leakage they will come and fix it and I won't be charged again. That gives me so much peace of mind.

Charlie came to our house looked at crawl space, took some measurements said he'd send a quote. Didn't discuss product and you guessed it... No call, no quote, no follow up. I sent an email to him personally...you guessed it... No response. They must be too busy to need my business (prob $10,000) or yours. Funny, he touted they were the oldest and original and could come within $20 of everyone else's quote..... Guess we'll never know.... Don't waste your time getting a quote from them....

This is a project we have put off for several years. We first noticed what we thought was settling in our den via cracks in the walls and along the ceiling. Horizontal and stair-stepping cracks were also noticeable in the basement and would come and go each year as the weather would warm and cool. Three years before we had this job done, we had a structural engineer assess the situation - he said we could put the work off and monitor it, and if it got worse we would have to do something about it. So the time finally came. I had called Basement Guys (BG) three years ago as well and had an old estimate on hand for reference. The engineer/sales person from BG (Charlie) this time spent a lot of time with us explaining what he found and actually told us that the previous assessment from BG which involved a piercing solution didn't need to be done. This ended up saving us several thousands of dollars. Charlie seemed very knowledgeable and was helpful through the process. The scheduling of the work was simple and coordinated. We had to have part of a finished wall removed as a part of the job and due to timing, we weren't going to be able to have it done before the start date of this job. BG was willing to work with us to have their team actually handle the demolition, and I felt the cost to us was very reasonable. The team of people doing the work was pretty small - just 2 men - and the lead on the project (Harry) did an exceptional job with preparing the work space, making sure everything was covered while they worked, ensuring a CLEAN job, and spending time explaining what they were doing. Candidly I was amazed how efficient and clean this job ended up being. We had 28 carbon fiber strips installed and the work included some intense grinding of old DryLok off of the walls before they could install the strips. The whole job took less than a week. While we do have to monitor the walls and den for any further cracking (which is guaranteed against), at this point I am very satisfied with the overall project. I have recommended BG to family members who have since used them as well. The only reason I didn't give BG an "A" on responsiveness was because there was a minor issue with a heating duct that took a couple weeks after the job to get fixed. I had a hard time getting a hold of someone at BG to call me back or get a worker back in the house to fix the duct. However, I am happy with the fix they completed. If you are considering a basement job like the one I've described here, I would highly recommend you call BG. I would also recommend anyone investigating this type of work to do your research and homework - call references and suppliers! BG came out on top for us from the start.
Description of Work: Installation of carbon fiber wall supports in basement and crawl space. Minor waterproofing via filling wall cracks in the foundation inside and outside the house.
WOW !!! i have spent many thousands of dollars in replacing washers, dryers, furnices and water heaters in the 10 yrs of living at my house and was about to give up and try to have all that stuff moved upstairs.my basement flooded every time we got rain and i already had a crock installed,so i thought water proofing my old nasty basement would be very expensive and WAY out my price range. i decided to call some basement people from angies list. THE BASEMENT GUYS were by far the best in price and the services they offered. from start to finish, from sales to service, everyone was very proffesional and explained in detail, what was going to be done that day. the guys are VERY hard workers and get the job done and go above and beyond there duties !! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BASEMENT GUYS TO ANYONE WHO HAS WATER PROBLEMS IN THERE BASEMENT!!
