We hired Christopher John Hill on 12/4/15 with the understanding work would not start until our home refinance was finalized (yes, we refinanced our home to have this work done). Upfront Chris Hill asked for a 4,500.00 deposit which, he explained, would be used for supplies, labor for sub-contractors, etc. Work was started around the end of February with 3 bedrooms painted. The rooms were painted, but not completely. Master Bathroom remodel was started around the beginning of March. On March 9, 2016 Chris told us he would need $6,500.00 as a deposit for the hardwood company. After cashing that check (the next day), work progressed very slowly. At one point Chris took a 2 week hiatus. His work hours became very sporadic and there were days he didn't show up or would work for an hour or two. At around the end of April Chris informed us he had another job and would be back in two weeks to resume our remodel project. We verbally pinned him down to a return date of May 16, 2016. May 15 4:41 PM we texted Chris to verify he would be resuming our project the next day. Chris didn't reply. May 16 8:27 PM we texted Chris again. Chris didn't reply. On May 17 5:53 PM we texted Chris again. May 17 6:20 PM Chris replied stating he would be back to work on our job the second week of June. We made it clear that was totally unacceptable. We decided to proceed with the hardwood portion of our remodel. May 18th I contacted Dan Unger, owner of Hamilton Hardwood. He stated that Chris had told him he had a deposit for our job and that Dan's brother, Steve Unger, told Chris to "hang on to it". May 18 6:39 PM we texted Chris informing him that we wanted our $6,500.00 returned and that, if he was told to "hang on to it" he should have immediately informed us. Basically, we made it clear that we wanted our $6,500.00 returned immediately. Chris didn't reply. May 19 Dan Unger and I texted back and forth. He denied he had our deposit and, ultimately, refused to send an itemized quote and/or perform the refinish/installation of our hardwood. May 19 6:48 PM we texted Chris again. May 20 9:54 PM Chris replied promising payment in the next couple of weeks. It is now July 28, 2016. This is an ongoing situation. There have been many text messages sent to Chris Hill requesting our $6,500.00 and our $4,500.00, less any verifiable receipts. To date, Chris either ignores our texts or gives us empty promises of repayment. We discovered his work is shoddy at best. We now have another company completing our Master Bathroom remodel. They are also going to remodel our Hall Bathroom. We're paying this company over $500.00 to repair the toilet that Chris re-seated; it wasn't right and has been constantly running until it was fixed yesterday; July 27, 2016. This company also brought in a plumber to correct the shoddy work Chris did. Once they gutted our Hall Bath it was discovered that whenever the Master Bath shower was turned on it leaked into the Hall Bath wall due to Chris' poor solder work. It also leaked into the basement. We had to hire another company for the hardwood refinish and installation. They're about $3,000.00 less than what Chris quoted us for that portion of the job. We also paid Chris for labor. We refinanced our home for this remodel job. We are now out over $11,000.00 that Chris Hill virtually stole from us (and he admits he has our money). We are also paying another company to complete our remodel. We are also paying another company to refinish/install our hardwood floors. We are also paying a higher monthly mortgage payment due to refinancing our home. If you would like more information, we're more than happy to provide it. We have copies of all text correspondence with Christopher John Hill. In essence, RUN do not WALK away from this con artist, flim flam man. You will get burned.
