Bad. Initially everything was fine. We received a bid, were given specific detail on how the canopy would work, and what all was included, then signed a contract. It went downhill from there... They installed the Canopy (and we were later informed by the second or third set of workers that came to our house that the guys who installed it originally had never installed one before, and the ledger board should have been further up on our roof. Our salesman, and the rep from the awning manufacturer told us several times it would extend past our deck, and the rain would not hit our deck, and that it would be far enough up our roof line, that it would drip into our gutters, so we would be protected from rain there as well. And, that a cover was included. Well, none of this has come to be true. It falls short on our deck, so we have to pull our furniture in whenever we're not sitting outside. It wasn't installed high enough on the roof, so they tried to remedy that, which helped a bit, but rain still comes in between the awning and the house. They've had to come back several times, due to parts being installed upside down, screws being stripped, etc., and they have remedied that. BUT, on top of the canopy not performing like we were told it would from the beginning, we have yet to receive the cover. It was written in our contract that a cover was included, but we were later informed it wasn't. Then they said they'd get us a cover. The have been paid, but the job is not complete. It's not complete until we receive everything promised in the contract. I have contacted them and have received no response, no cover for the awning. Nothing. Radio silence. This had been a nightmare, and unfortunately isn't over. But, as I said, we do have a contract, so it looks like out next step is court. This has been going on since July. They've been given ample time to have this taken care of. BEWARE: ONCE THEY GET YOUR MONEY, YOU WON'T SEE THEM AGAIN! NEXT STEP: COURT!
Description of Work: Needed the Awning over our deck replaced.

It was excellent, outstanding, very professional, thorough and timely.
This is a very difficult review to write. Clarke Contractors was recommended by y son who had work done by them. They were very competitively priced and the workers who are employed by Clarke were very competent and friendly. Their primary focus was replacing wallboard, mudding, painting, and replacing insulation, doors casing and baseboards. I have no complaint about any of their work. Now for the carpeting. Given that this area gets a lot of foot traffic around the pool table and basement steps, we selected berber carpeting just like we previously had. We found out that Clarke uses Sherwin Williams as their carpet supplier. We didn't even know that Sherwin Williams sells carpet. We thought they were strictly a paint supplier. We selected the berber carpet we wanted and Clarke sent the sales person from Sherwin Williams out promptly and the carpet order came in timely also. However the installation of the carpet was the worst experience I ever encountered with workers in my home. The first two installers only spoke Spanish and neither my wife nor I could effectively communicate with them. I sent them away and called Clarke telling them I expect installers who I could communicate with. The next day Sherwin Williams sent two different Spanish speaking installers who spoke sufficient English so that we could communicate. After two days of effort which was challenging, they finished the job. However the installation was appalling. The seams were so frayed and the longest seem didn't come together. The carpet as stapled to the steps. The tack board was not attached to the floor in places and in other place was upside down. They also used tack board that had wooden nails rather than the masonry nails that should have been used. We complained to Clarke who was very helpful in getting new carpet from Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams sent supposedly their best installer out after a month to install the new carpeting. Upon looking at the carpet to be replaced, he commented that he couldn't do any better job on the seams. I sent him away without installing the carpet. I contacted Clarke who agreed that we would buy carpet on our own and have the project cost reduced by the cost of the carpet. Clarke was very cooperative. We have since bought carpet from a local retailer and had them install it. It looks fine. DO NOT LET CLARKE CONTRACTORS INCLUDE CARPET IN YOUR PROJECT COST! BUY IT FROM ANY RETAILER OTHER THAN SHERWIN WILLIAMS. I COMMUNICATED TO CLARKE CONTRACTORS THAT I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THEM FOR USING SUCH AN INCOMPETENT SUBCONTRACTOR LIKE SHERWIN WILLIAMS. HEED THIS WARNING!

Rick & Luke were the work crew and were very courteus . They arrived on time and waisted no time putting the sunroom up. we are very pleased with the results and already spend a lot of time there.
Professional demeanor and skilled workmen. Long delays (the job took nearly 9 months to complete) or about 5 months longer than our similar remodeling in 2005. Costs overruns, although well explained and legitimately justifiable, were excessive (original quote $130,000 compared to final cost $159,900).
Description of Work: (1) Remodeling: 2-baths, kitchen, laundry-utility room. (2) roof replacement - included chimney sealing, (3) carpet replacement, (4) electrical work throughout the home -- upgraded to 2017 "new construction" building code (5) subterranean plumbing -- replaced old clay sewer/drain pipes with PVC painting throughout the home. (6) repaired vinyl siding and gutters (7) window replacement - resized several windows (8) installed new front new entry doors and fitted with keyless deadbolt (9) installed new lighting and ceiling fans throughout home (10) upgraded fire-smoke-CO2 detectors throughout.

Jason was very professional, knowledgeable and punctual. Walked through the house and reviewed the area in need of service and explained what the steps would be to correct the situation. Discussed various ways to treat the areas and what he thought would work best. The areas in need of work are the Basement and Attic. At the present time, the issue is not in need of immediate remediation and we are going to correct other issues before correcting the mold issue. Since we are waiting, no formal estimate was requested. When we are ready, I will have Clarke contractors back to issue a formal estimate and based on my experience with other contractors will more than likely have Clarke contractors perform the service.
Description of Work: Provided evaluation of mold issues in the basement and attic areas of the house.
This was the single worst experience I have encountered in any of the five states I have owned properties. Run away, don't walk, as fast as you can from Clarke Contractors and the most inept project manager (Peter Chadwick) that I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Clarke was hired to repair water damage and replace nine large windows. Every, and I mean every, item that they purported to repair has had to been reworked by another contractor. Their drywall work cracked, peeled and separated in every room they worked in. They painted my wall (sand finish) with metallic paint. They damaged the crown molding. They destroyed two mature bushes in the front of the house while replacing the windows. In those areas where the paint color was correct, they pained the light fixtures, the hinges, the solid brass door handles and the floor. They attempted to charge for work not completed and literarily every measurement they took was extended and inflated in price, they are the most corrupt and fraudulent firm I have ever encountered. In addition, they chose not to stand behind any of their work and Peter (the inept project manager) refused to honor their contractual 1-year warranty. If you choose to use the company you do so at your own peril; Caveat emptor..

I had a car run into my garage and they repaired the damage. I've used them since. They are good.
I had called numerous home improvement companies, window companies, roofing companies, etc. and could not find anyone who would tackle this job. I wanted to add a window to a living room wall because the room was so dark. I saw several Clarke Contractor trucks in a parking lot and saw that they restore damaged homes. I called to see if they would install a window in a brick wall and they said, "Yes, no problem." I already had the window ($500) so their estimate was for the labor to cut the hole in the brick, frame the window and header, install the window, finish the brick work on the outside, and add new wallboard on the inside. (I did the touch up painting and I prepared the space with drop cloths, plastic covers, etc. to save a little money.) From the estimate to the completion this was a very professional and problem free job. The estimate was very detailed - no room for misunderstandings. Even though they are very busy, Steve was very prompt on responses to my questions. A project manager was assigned (Mike) who stayed in constant contact with me and made sure everyone showed up when they were supposed to and made sure I was informed each step of the way. The carpenter they sent to do the work (John) was a perfectionist just like me, and did an excellent job of framing the window, putting in the header, as well as, measuring precisely where the hole needed to be cut in the wall so that it was even with other windows on the back side of the home. Clarke Contractors took care of getting the building permit and being present during inspections so I didn't have to do that. Part of the job (masonry brick work) had to be contracted out to another company. That company also sent a project manager to oversee the outside brick work, however, when the brick layers showed up they were not clear exactly where to cut the hole. Good thing I was there to catch it and have them call and check in with the Clarke carpenter. Once that was resolved, the rest of the job was done flawlessly. It was a VERY messy job cutting through bricks (dust storm) but they cleaned up the deck and outside furniture afterwards. They even went the extra mile and replaced some bricks under another window to repair a crack that had formed in the outside wall. After the hole was cut in the brick, the carpenter, John, installed the window and window sill and from the inside, it looked like it had always been there. Then he did the finish work on the outside to ensure everything matched the other windows. The window looks and functions great. This was the easiest home improvement project that I have ever experienced thanks to Clarke Contractors. Yes, I needed to be present to catch a few things but, all in all, my part was so minimal and the project was done so well and fast (7 days total) that I would totally trust them to do any home improvement project.

It went very well. Their project manager arrived at my home within three hours of me arriving home and finding the disaster. this was in the middle of the night during a blizzard. He had a crew at my home almost immediately tearing out all of the wet wood, dry wall, carpet etc. They had the dehumidifiers and fans going within a few hours. I hired them to build everything back, and they had to move everything out of my home so they could do the work, and move it back when everything was completed. From the people who handled the mitigation, to the carpenters and painters, to the ladies who took special care to pack and then unpack my belongings, i was treated with professionalism and courtesy. The work was excellent.
Description of Work: Mitigated the effects of a pipe that froze then burst while i was out of town, doing extensive water damage in my home. And then built it back.

Went well. No odors, carpet looks fine. They were very professional and prompt. We decided to restretch the carpet and reinstall 1 piece of baseboard ourselves to save $400-$500. They came when they promised and returned daily to check on the progress. They cleaned up after themselves as well. We had used them a couple of years ago when our refrigerator ice maker stuck on and flooded the kitchen and basement below it. They did an excellent job then too. The only negative was the cost, but I presume that all such services are similar in price.

I truly appreciate the fact that the service man gave me an honest appraisal of the situation. It is now June and I have seen no more leaks. My neighbor, in a similar type home, has had a leak due to water moisture and that problem disappeared as well.
Description of Work: Clarke representative, Steve Follick, came out to give an estimate for the water damage to my ceiling. The small leak from the ceiling and wall had stopped when the service man came. He looked over the damage and told me to call if the leak occurred again. He thought it could have been ice in the outside wall. He never charged me for the visit . Because I felt as if it was a serious issue, any other company could have taken advantage and knocked out the wall and part of the ceiling and charged me a lot for an issue that resolved itself.
