 + 0 moreWe met with Bob at the office and had a nice conversation with him. Craig came out to inspect the chimney and provide an estimate; he also was the one who completed the work. Both gentlemen were very professional and courteous. The work was done as promised in a timely manner with no mess. I would use this company again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Top Hat installed a new chimney cap and fireplace doors and painted the front of the fireplace.

The price was high which we didn't mind being that it was to be a quality product but their service was not very good. They didn't provide what they advertised.

 + -1 moreTHEY ORDERED THE WRONG THINGS, AND THEY FORGOT TO ORDER THE RIGHT THINGS. I ASKED THEM TO DO IT AGAIN. THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT, AND CAME WHEN I WAS NOT THERE, AND WHEN I GOT HOME BEFORE 9:00 THEY WERE LEAVING SO I HAD TO CALL AGAIN. THEY PUT THE SCREEN DOOR ON UPSIDE DOWN. WHEN WE WENT TO THE SHOWROOM, I ASKED THEM IF THE DOOR CAME WITH A SCREEN THEY SAID YES, BUT WHEN THEY CAME THEY SAID YOU HAD TO ORDER SEPARATELY. I WAS NOT VERY HAPPY.

 + -1 moreI WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS COMPANY. I CALLED FOR AN ESTIMATE, AND THE SECRETARY IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO BOOK ME FOR AN "INSPECTION". IF I HADN'T ASKED IF THIS WAS A FREE SERVICE, I WOULD HAVE WOULD UP WITH SOMEONE AT MY DOOR EXPECTING TO BE PAID. THE SECRETARY ALSO MADE RATHER SNIDE REMARKS ABOUT ANOTHER COMPANY I HAD CONSULTED. THIS DID NOT SEEM PROFESSIONAL TO ME. TO TOP IT ALL OFF, THE OTHER COMPANY, WHO HAD COME AND GIVEN ME A FREE ESTIMATE, HAD TOLD ME THAT THIS PROCEDURE WOULD WORK FOR MY CHIMNEY, BUT SAID THAT HE COULDN'T DO IT, AND SUGGESTED I TRY A BIGGER COMPANY. WHEN I CALLED TOP HAT, THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE PROCEDURE. HMMM......

 + -1 moreTRIED TO SELL MY SERVICES THAT I DID NOT NEED. MY FIREPLACE WAS SAFE WHEN HE SAID IT WASN'T. I DID NOT NEED FURNACE FLUE RELINE OR NEW TILES IN OTHER FLUE.
Description of Work: I CALLED THIS COMPANY FOR AN ESTIMATE ON A CHIMNEY SWEEP. THEY CAME OUT AND GOT MY SUPER WORRIED BY SAYING THAT I WOULD NEED A RELINE FOR MY FURNACE FLUE AND SOME NEW TILES FOR MY WOODBURNING FLUE. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT I HAD ASBESTOS WRAPPING ON SOME OF MY DUCT WORK AND SUGGESTED THAT I GET THAT TAKEN CARE OF RIGHT AWAY AND THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER (I HAD JUST BOUGHT MY HOUSE) SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SELL THE HOUSE WITHOUT REMOVING THE ASBESTOS. HE SAID THAT I COULD GO AFTER THE REAL ESTATE AGENT AND SELLER FOR MONEY TO PAY FOR ASBESTOS REMOVAL AND FIXING MY FIREPLACE WHICH HE SAID WAS UNSAFE FOR USE. HE SAID HE WOULD BE MY AGENT AND GET THE MONEY FOR ME. I WAS SUSPICIOUS AND CALLED MY REAL ESTATE AGENT, ASBESTOS REMOVAL COMPANIES, THE EPA AND FOUND OUT THAT HE WAS FULL OF BEANS ABOUT GETTING MONEY AND THE ASBESTOS 'PROBLEM'. THE EPA EVEN WARNS YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM CONTRACTORS WHO SAY GET FOLKS WORRIED ABOUT ASBESTOS IN RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES. TRIED TO GET ME TO SPEND $4000
