Robert Bates, Petra Homes, Balin construction, whatever he changes his name to for whatever reason, as stated in another review is a storm chaser, doesn't want to do anything but get on your roof and manipulate insurance companies. He has his crews of Mexican workers who did a great job while I'm sure he reaps all the benefits. I'm pretty sure he is a crook and the reason for his everchanging address and/or name is self explanatory. I would never recommend him to anyone, had I known who I was dealing with, I would have never had him on my roof.
Description of Work: Roof/shingle replacement.

Overall, we received a new roof which our insurance paid for. Initially Mr. Bates was very attentive, as soon as he received payment he was elusive and did not care that we had water stains on our ceilings - kept blaming his workers for not responding to our calls for help. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIS WORK TO ANYONE!!
Description of Work: Insurance covered the cost of our new roof. The roof was installed in June 2011, began noticing water leaks in our kitchen and office ceilings in December/January. His employee did come out in January 2012 and repaired the roof. We were told he would put kilz on the ceilings and paint them for us. Never happened. Could never get anyone out here to respond to our needs. I wrote Mr. Bates a letter to the address that I knew. At the time of our roofing job, Mr. Bates lived on Acacia Drive in Marysville, around the corner from us. He moved from this address and I went on the internet to get his new address under Balin Construction and found an address of 7400 Industrial Parkway, Plain City, Ohio 43064. My letter was returned to me. Since searching on Angie's list I see he has changed company names and has a Grove City address. He is very elusive and does not intend to repair our water stained ceilings. We will repair them ourselves and seek payment from Mr. Bates for our labor and expenses, even if I have to go thru Small Claims Court. I would NOT recommend his work to anyone only because he would not back it up with repair/warranty work. The Mexican work crew he used to install our roof was very fast and cleaned up nicely after installation. As far as my husband and I are concerned Mr. Bates is a "storm chaser". Thank you.

Nightmare! Looking back from today, we would have given anything to at least talk to one of his past customers or suppliers or contractors about his reputation as a builder. Petra does a great job of selling his product in the beginning, but once the contract is signed, the headaches and lies start. We were told one thing one day, but the story changed the next, ran into numerous suppliers who he owed money to or left high and dry. It was always about what his bottom line was, not what was best for the customer. He would cut every corner he could to save a nickel. Never had a punch out list, walk through, or 6 month or 1 year punch outs addressed. We moved into our home twelve months after the contract was signed, several months past the time promised it would take. The builder had verbally indicated to one of his workers that he was sitting on our home as he continued to build the home behind us, started several months after our project, and finished this home before ours was done. Four months after we moved in, we had a full house mystery flood (supposedly caused by our 6 year old son in a second floor bathroom, yet no one, including the insurance company, can replicate the overflow issue we had that day). We have since had to move out of the home for almost seven months to have it rebuilt. Found out in the course of the reconstruction that we have more plumbing errors (go figure) and also that all of our tiled rooms were laid directly onto the sub flooring; no hardboard was used (that would explain the cracked and raised tiles, when they get wet). We had shingles that fell off the roof and when we contacted the builder to get the information needed on replacing them, he would not leave any extra materials or a list on site from building, yet no return phone calls, emails, and the phone number has now been disconnected. He has spoke negatively about us to our neighbors and his other customers, and the list goes on. We never would have built with this individual had we known how difficult his personality is to deal with. Funny how many of his customers we have since met, share the same experiences and feelings toward him we have had.
Description of Work: Petra was hired to build a custom home for my family and I. The plan was brought to his architect and built on our selected site.
