Chris called ahead and showing up during the scheduled hours. He was courteous to put shoe covers on before when entering the house. Our heat pump furnace kept starting/stopping frequently. We found out that our thermostat had a wrong setting and he re-programmed it. He explained to me how the heat pump works and check the furnace and outside heat pump unit. He is very professional.

I had some issues with my furnace and American Air Heating Cooling had to come out seven times before they figured out how to fix it. They tried a few things and finally, the lead technician came out and replaced those parts. I haven't had a problem since with it. They're very responsive. When I called them, they would actually get somebody out the next day. I kept continuing to call them. Their theme is "One Call to Fix it All," but for me, it took seven calls.
Description of Work: They repaired my furnace for free because it was still under warranty.

If your time is important and you have to make arrangements to be home for service repair from this company....PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. I contacted American Air on 9/11/13 for the fall check up and also told them the AC wasn't cooling. Made an appt for them come out on 9/13/13 between the hours of 12-5. It was determined the AC compressor needed replaced and it was a warranty issue. This was a Friday and we were at their mercy, of course. After thinking about this over the week end, I thought I would just give them a call on Monday and confirm exactly what was going to happen, when I could expect the job to be completed. Sadly, the communication in this company is lacking. The office did not have any idea of what was going on with the job. About 11:00 am I received a call from the tech and he stated the parts had been ordered and made the appt for the replacement for Friday, Sept. 20th for the same time frame 12-5. So, I made arrangements for someone to be "there" for the installation. No one showed up, I called and was told the parts were on back order and "someone" should have called me. I will never get my 5 hours of productivity back....Wasted time. Ok, another appt was made for Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. Again the hours 12-5. This time 2 guys came to the house, installed the unit. But....wait for it....NO FREON for the system. Who does that? Who installs a new compressor and doesn't have freon? It was 5:oo and he wanted to get off the job, no one had freon at 5:00. Another arrangement made for someone to be at the house for the freon. We are now up to 4 trips...4 arrangements of time spent. This job should have taken 2 trips to complete to satisfy a customer. On this final trip to finish the job, the service tech was professional, polite and knowledgeable. We are pleased with his performance. So...was the problem a tech issue? Not sure but this I know....my time is very important, as we all work in this world. I will not call this company again for service. The competition is out there actively seeking my business, it's time for a change.

This is out of character for me.... I don't complain and/ or criticize people or a company, especially in writing. If I get poor service or If I am dis-satisfied, I simply do not go back. We live in a world that offers so many options. This particular situation is still bothering me after a couple of days. We have used this company for over 14 years. We are the original owners of our home. Our first air conditioning unit lasted over 11 years and we purchased a new unit about three years ago. We have had so many problems with this new unit. We understand that American Air did not design and/or manufacture our new unit but they do service the unit if the need should occur and it has, over and over. We purchased a yearly service contract, which means a representative comes out twice a year for any preventive maintenance and/or inspections. This service contract is something we have purchased several times out of our 14 + years in our home. We have seen many representatives of American Air and all seemed fine, some more helpful than others in offering tips, but none were insulting or rude until now. This is our second encounter with this particular individual. The first encounter with this representative was about a year ago, he seemed a little tired, some in my family said rude, but he was here for our annual check up and everyone is allowed to have an off day. Our second encounter was earlier this week with another problem with our air conditioner. I explained we have a big family and many members suffer with really bad allergies that quickly turn into sinus infections, especially this time of year. I asked how long would it take to fix. (I assumed a few hours, which has always been the case in years past) He informed me a few days. He needed to order the part. I understand that things take time. What I do not understand was his delivery and tone. He stated if we have such problems, we could seek the nearest shelter, pay for a hotel or if bad enough go to the hospital. He later proceeded to say he hears this all the time. He has customers who are dying with cancer or have heart problems. I am truly sorry ( I really am) to hear that people who are facing such problems and the gift of cooler air would help them but the delivery of such a statement was unnecessary. It was so insulting to hear my "options" if my family started to get sick if we needed to open our windows to cool down our home. The next business day, I received a phone call at 8am from the office stating my part was in. I was thrilled and mentioned I would be home all day. The office representative mentioned to me that I was scheduled for the following day, between the hours of 12 to 5. I found that odd. I have had to call this company several times in years past and have always received same day service, which is a primary reason, we kept returning to this company. Our yearly service contract states... you will receive preferential treatment and faster service than non-contract holders. I did not realize it stated that until we hung up the phone. I called back and asked if there was any way on being on the schedule today. I was informed that would depend on the tech. I did not hear back. I'm sure there are times in the year that may be busier than others. If we did receive faster service due to the busyness of the industry, we were not told. The next day arrives and the family is looking forward to a cooler house. The tech arrives mid-afternoon. He does not ring the door bell to let us know he arrived. He simply starts working on our unit. I appreciate his efficiency. My preference would have been to know that he arrived but everyone works differently and perhaps he was running behind schedule. Once the part was in place, he bangs (yes, bangs) on the back window and asked my college student to put on the air. He was taking an on-line course and could not break free. Thankfully, I was close by. Again....another preference, but good customer service would be to have the tech walk around front to let me know that I could put on the unit. He may or may not have known that my child was in a college course but he could see that he was working on "something" and his banging would have been an interruption. And finally the time for the bill. I was quoted a rough estimate on his first visit between $300 to $400 dollars for the repair. (parts were free due to a 10 year warranty but not labor) When I received the bill on his returned visit, I reminded him that the service plan states a 20% discount. His response was "oh yeah, the price reflects that". No where on the bill does it break down the original cost, the discount and then the final cost. I asked him about that and he smugly replied to add the 20% to the bill. There are a few more examples that could be related to this visit but I feel I have stated my point. I debated on reveling the techs name and I am choosing not to. I am hoping it is just a bad week for him. We all have bad weeks. If this was my only experience with the company, I would not be returning. There are other companies who offer the same service without the rudeness. With this one exception, I have been pleased and that is why I gave the company good marks. I am still undecided if I will be a returning customer. But if the need should arise for a service call and we decided to use this company and am told the name of the tech to expect and it is the same guy, we will "suffer" through allergies, sinus infections until another company can come out.

I was called about a half hour before the service tech arrived. He arrived on time and was friendly, quickly identifying the problem. He replaced the capacitor and contactor and the air conditioner worked properly after that. I looked at the contactor and noted it was tarnished, but not really that bad. The service tech said it could last another 7 years or go tomorrow so he recommended replacing it. I was not given an estimate prior to the items being replaced, though I should have asked for it. I looked up the exact parts online and found I was charged about 3 times the market price. I fault myself here; the service tech was friendly and straightforward and I was not pressured in any way. I should have asked about the part prices prior to having them installed. I gave a poor score on the price as I believe the markup on the parts was excessive.
Description of Work: The air conditioner unit required a new capacitor, which was easy to tell once the unit was opened. The contactor (which appeared to be a small relay) looked a little corroded and it was changed as well.

Most of American Air's staff were extremely professional and very pleasant to work with. Salesperson Jeff Ball especially deserves praise for being informative and helping us find ways to keep costs down. We received estimates from three different companies, and Jeff was the only one to draw our attention to several potential code violations that would need to be addressed by our installer, which was reassuring. However, the installer himself left a piece of metal inside the air conditioner, causing the system to make a noise like a shoe left in the dryer. To their credit American Air had this fixed the very next day, even sending out someone after hours to make sure it was taken care of as soon as possible. The other issue is that the installer moved the condenser from its previous spot. (This was apparently done to avoid a potential code violation involving access to the electric box.) However, he never asked us where we wanted the condenser moved to, and he located it right outside a dining area window. Although the air conditioner is much nicer and a reasonable size compared to the one we replaced, it's not what I want to see when eating pancakes. The rotating blades also catch the sunlight and will occasionally blind family members walking through the kitchen. We're having American Air come out and move the condenser, but it's very frustrating, because it's an additional expense. (Thus, the B-grade on price. Otherwise, it would have been an A.) Plus, I'm sure we'll have yet another patch of grass to replace once this is all done. It's very nice to have the house finally cooled down, and--in the end--a lack of attention to detail by the installer is all that kept this from being an A+ review.

A month later the heat pump is cooling just fine. The tech was courteous and prompt. I like that they call me when they are on the way to my house. That way I can leave work and meet them rather than waiting for the service technician to show up.
Description of Work: They came out for a routine check-up of my heat pump. The technician found that the compressor was not working. He found that a lead to a capacitor was burned off. He repaired the lead and tested the compressor. He also advised me to get ready to replace the unit because of its age. He gave me an estimate which is a great help in planning for a major job like that.

They are great and I would recommend them to anybody. I have been doing business with them since I moved into my condominium and they are beautiful people. When they come out and you are a member of their association, you are a priority. The thing that I am most impressed about this company, is when they come in to work on the furnace, the air conditioner, or the sub-pump, they do not leave a mess. They treat the job like it is their own home. They come out twice a year. I have a contract with them and if anything ever happened in between, I am a top priority customer. I call them up and tell them my problem and they are out here in less than 24 hours. I will stay with them and I would recommend them to anybody. They are a company that does not rip me off. They do great work. They are neat, precise, they have the equipment on the truck and they are well rounded. I trust them and they never let me down. I would not go to anyone else. They were the company that installed everything when these condo's were built.

They explained the fees, but thought that the bill was a bit. They found the problem and replaced the part. They charged me a $99 for a diagnostic and $220 for a part with installation. The installation took no more ten minutes. I did some research on the part and it about a $20 part. My husband called them back to dispute the charge on the invoice, but they were rude and did not give any money back. I called another compay to see what their price would have been, and it was $177 for the part and service call.

My air conditioner died a painful death late on a Friday afternoon in the hottest July on record. I was able to schedule 3 companies in for estimates on Monday. I was impressed with American Air from the very beginning when I learned the estimator/sales person Tim had gone on the auditor's site and gotten the square footage of my condo. He analyzed my situation and gave me a couple of options without trying to sell me the top of the line unit or a new furnace when my old one had several years of life left. He answered all my questions and was very honest about when I would need to give him an answer to get added to the work schedule (which was getting to be a real concern since the temperature and humidity were expected to go up even higher over the next 2 days). The third and last estimate of the day was significantly different from American Air and I called Tim at 5:00 on his personal cell with questions. Specifically I questioned moving up from a 13 SEER to a 16 SEER unit for higher efficency. He offered me an excellent price on a 16 SEER unit phoning me back at 7:45 AM the next morning with the price so we could get my choice ordered and informing me that he could fit me into that day's schedule. The installers worked all day at my house and by 6:00 I had air conditioning. Steve, the owner of American Air, also stopped by to make sure everything was OK. Randy and Jimmy made sure everything was to code in the attic and added a drip pan to the furnace (which was missing). They also gave me tips on how to handle issues related to my condo: an unheated/cooled glass and screened porch and my office which is always hotter and colder than the rest of the house. Since the installation was just 2 days ago I have no idea yet about how the equipment they installed will function, but I can say that I was very impressed with the service I got from American Air and plan to use them for annual maintenance and a new furnace down the road.
Description of Work: Installed new central air conditioning in 13 year old condo. Connected new coil to existing furnace. Checked and adjusted ductwork. Flushed line set of old freon. Took away old unit and debris.

For him being at my home less than 10 minutes a $99.00 service charge was acquired and my unit still needed to be repaired. One thing that I can say is that he diagnosed the problem and I was able to find a motor and condenser and repair the unit myself for 1/3 the cost.
Description of Work: The serviceman removed and replaced my condensor on my air conditioner which did not fix the unit. An estimate to repair was given to me that was way too high for the work to be accomplished. He did not test the equipment but was relying on experience of working with air conditioners.

Our tech determined that we were low on coolant due to a leak. He refilled our coolant and advised us that our leak was due to a bad EVAP Coil. The part was under warranty but the labor was not, would be $875. He couldn't have been any nicer and professional. While we were digesting the labor cost and told him we would have to discuss it, it was in no way a reflection on him or the company, they were great!
Description of Work: Checked to determine why AC unit continued to run when set temp was reached.

The licensed electrician arrived on time and worked steadily to install the components. The wiring job was done very neatly - the original box had wires that were much longer than necessary and these were trimmed back to fit. At the end of the day, another person came and together they identified the circuits in a general way. While it was suitable, I like a much more detailed map of the circuits and did that on my own. The larger components were cleaned up quite well but there were some bits and pieces of wire, etc. that needed to be cleaned up. The job took all day to complete.
Description of Work: The main load panel was installed and upgraded from 150 amp service with Pushmatic breakers to 200 Amp service with breakers that are code. In addition, the line leading to the meter was replaced since the insulation had shrunk and new line was placed from where the power line meets the house, through the meter (remounted the meter), and into the house. Cost included all wiring, box and breakers.
