I found this company through Angies list. When they came out to check my unit, they determined that the compressor was locked and needed to be replaced. I approved them to do the work. I was told that if I used them to do the repair work, the initial inspection costs would be waived. Last year, 2015, I received a letter from a collection agency, hired by American air for an unpaid bill of $99. After contacting them and explaining what transpired the year before, the accounts receivable person stated that she was not with the company back then and did not have information to support what I was saying. I asked her if there was a record of the compressor replacement, she said yes. I asked if the technician who installed it was available, she said no and that I had to pay the bill. I did pay the $99.00 but it was reported to the credit bureau as an uncollected debt. My credit score was adversely affected by it and the woman had absolutely no remorse.

I have looked in to your complaint, and I sincerely apologize. The lady that you spoke with in 2014 is no longer with our company. We will be refunding your $99 and will contact the collection agency to see if they will report our error to the credit bureaus.

The first technician diagnosed the fault but failed to order any parts. The business office was very apologetic, ordered the parts, sent a different Tech out and repaired the system. However by the time the communication mishap was corrected I went 2 weeks before the repairs were finally made. After it was finally repaired I have had no further problems with the system and they gave me a free home inspection on the system the following year with no faults found.

We got 3 quotes from reputable companies to replace our failing 17 year old A/C units (we have 2: a 3 ton unit for upstairs, a 2 ton unit for downstairs.) Our heat is run by a boiler through hot water radiators. The other 2 companies quoted us prices around $13k, to replace both the outside and inside A/C units. American Air was the only one to realize that because we don't use the air handlers inside for forced air heat, they could replace those coils with new ones without replacing the whole unit, and thus CUTTING OUR COSTS IN HALF. This was significant - we are talking $6000 less! We so appreciated the upfront honesty, creative solution, professionalism and integrity with which the job was carried out. From the guy who gave us the quote, to the woman answering the phone for scheduling, to the installer - absolutely excellent experience.

I can't say enough about how pleased I was with Jason. He was right on time, professional, pleasant, thoughtful, efficient, and thorough. He suggested we purchase the water heater, toilet and vanity ourselves, which saved us money. He was completely finished with the job in less than 6 hours and he cleaned up! I would highly recommend Jason and this company to anyone.

I am trying to forget them because I wasn’t too pleased with them. It wasn’t really bad but just not very responsive. The price was okay for what was we were getting. That wasn’t bad. We were having trouble getting a hold with them and then even though we had a service contract, they told us that they can’t get out here for 3 weeks and the system wasn’t working and that’s when I finally quit them. It took them 3 tries to fix the problem so that was an issue with me.

Plumbing - What a terrible experience! - Signed and sent contract in and install was set for August 11th. Got a call and e-mail the week before from plumbing that they needed to do a walk thru before doing the work. Fine. I was out of town for a few days and gave rep name/number for my handyman who was doing some work at the property. In fact, they were going out to do a quote for a friend's place nearby whom I had referred them to and I e-mailed/called to ask if they could swing by before/after that call. They showed up there on time. As of the 11th, there was no follow-up with him for walk through. I also called and left voice mail and e-mailed to inquire where things stand. No show. No call. Broke contract. Electric - Was so happy to find that they did more than one trade and rep was so good when we met. All set, right? Wrong! Got a call on the 10th for an 11th install that I had to have additional permits for job to install electric. Having gotten demo/removal permit, the walls had been taken out to studs. Rep was confused/didn't remember that electric is already installed and this is a replacement/upgrade, not an entire new install. He was insistent this was needed. I went up to City permit office for another permit and took that as opportunity to explicitly explain what needed to be done for this job and was told that there was absolutely no need for additional permit/info from me to City. With that info, I called the supervisor's name I was given. He was insistent that the City permit supervisor was wrong and he was right. Really? No. They just didn't want to do the job. The other positive reviews seem to be for all small work/maintenance. So maybe they are good at that. As noted, they did show up promptly and provide quotes, which is better than over 50% of trades companies. It's the big jobs that need to be avoided with this company from my experience. And if you don't want to do the job, just say you don't want to do the job. Don't string along customers. It is a waste of everyone's time and cannot be a good practice in the long run.
Description of Work: Provided quotes for hvac, electric and plumbing. All three divisions were on time for appointments and provided prompt and fair quotes - was impressed. Decided to go with them for electric and plumbing.

I am very sorry that you're upset with American Air. However, we confirmed with the City of Columbus that the permits were not properly pulled, and we cannot proceed with any jobs without the proper permits in place PRIOR to beginning the work. I am very sorry for the confusion.

The work was excellent. Their billing structure was very excessive. We had them come out on a weekend and they charged $199 for a weekend service call. We checked with competitors and they said their charges were $89 and $79 so American Air had an excessive charge for the weekend. And then their billing structure was their service technician handed me a booklet and I had several choices in terms in how to pay for services that the more expensive services like $800 would be so many promises and warranties and so forth and then they had the bottom charge of $250 and they named that bottom charge the Band-Aid program. So, the word band-aid sort of implied we don't guarantee anything. We do the work and then it's your baby after it's done. Of course we chose the $250 instead of the $800. I complained about it to the manager. He discounted $100 off of the $199 weekend service call charge and took my suggestion that they probably need to use a new word than band-aid for that basic service call. I wouldn't use them again for one reason. The other vendors charged a weekend service call but then if they come out and do work, they apply that service call toward the work being done. Their service call was less expensive and American Air did not apply any of the weekend service call, $199 to the work done so we ended up paying the $199 and the $250 for the work done. So we ended up paying $450. The owner / manager agreed to give us $100 off after the work was done and we had paid it and they haven't paid us back or credit us back the $100 yet. They did give us a 10% discount because we had used them before and I had a coupon from using them before. I don't like using vendors like that unless they will itemize the parts that they want to charge us for and the number of hours that it took to do the work and charge us an hourly rate for that. In other words, I don't think I'll use them again unless they are willing to itemize their charges because otherwise I have no way of evaluating if their charge of $250 was appropriate for the work that was done. I don't know how much they charged for the parts and I don't know how much they charged me per hour for their work. The technician was very professional and the work he did was very professional. The reason we used them was because they were willing to come out right away. I would not use them again for their billing structure and their overbilling.

I was on American Air's maintenance program for 4 years. Was very happy. I never had any issues so they came in the fall and the spring. This spring the air conditioner was not cooling. Called American Air on a Thursday. They couldn't come out until Tuesday. Waited all day Tuesday. Time scheduled between 12 and 5:00. At 5:15 I called to ask if they were still coming. I got the answering machine. Left a message. They called back , but I missed the call. I was told in a message that she could not reach the technician and I would have to call back tomorrow. I got a call the next morning saying there was a mix up and they would send someone out that day. Well after waiting all day the day before I couldn't stay home again. I rescheduled for another day. The work they do is great. Professional and punctual for maintenance. I was very disappointed with the service I received when I needed them. They were not apologetic and when I didn't renew my maintenance program they didn't even ask why.

I called them for a yearly check. the technician advised the heat exchanger had a bubble in it and likely would need replaced by summer.he showed me the part at issue. Since it was the beginning of winter I to decided to replace the furnace. There was no pressure ever to replace the furnace. The technician and sales representative explained all my options very well. The furnace was replaced in a timely fashion. The site was cleaned up after the install. I have used American Air for all my heating and air needs since 1995 and always found there service as very professional. I will continue to use them for all my heating and air needs

I had 3 different companies out for the estimate. One of them was American Air. They are the ones who initially installed my air conditioner when the house was build. I had to do repair as well to see what needed to be done because my air wasn't working very well. They didn't end up doing the repair because they recommended a replacement of the system. They just came out to look at it and told me to replace it. I had somebody else come out and do an estimate for the whole replacement. They were pretty responsive as far as coming out after the repair to do the estimate. It seemed like that they had a lot of good information but I didn't go with them just because I didn't want the type of air conditioner that they were trying to sell me. Their price was actually pretty good. I would not use them again in the future because they might fine me because I bought it from somebody else, I would call them now.

MY LONG STORY IS AHEAD, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS, I HAVE LONG TERM EXPERIENCE WITH THESE PEOPLE AND, IN MY OPINION, THIS COMPANY HAS CHANGED FOR SOME REASON AND IS NOT ONE I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ANY HVAC WORK. First, let me say I was a long time loyal customer of American Air at my home in the Dublin area. While living there, they serviced my HVAC system twice a year, replaced my furnace and installed a new humidifier, dust filter and UV light in the mid 2000s, and installed a new A/C unit several years later. All the while, I found them fair, responsive and professional. I maintained a service contract with them the whole time. Nice people, professional, responsive. Then last year (May 2013) I moved... I don't know what happened to these people, but they turned into the "company from h***." The people they sent out were lazy. The gentleman who first came to inspect and service my HVAC did nothing but verbally trash the system, wanting it replaced in spite of the fact it ran just fine. Moreover, he did not clean the heat pump as I had asked him, telling me I had to call him after I got my home warranty company to change some electrical components (again, the unit was working fine). He performed the services HE wanted to perform, not the services I asked him to perform. The warranty company refused to change out the electrical components because the unit was working fine. They assured me that if the heat pump failed, they'd address the problem within the limits of the policy, but that my coverage did not contain preventive maintenance. Well, after then trying to call American Air out to clean the unit as I had first requested, they kept telling me they couldn't come until I got all the components at issue changed, which was ludicrous. After 3 calls, I gave up and chose to clean the unit myself. Well, 4 months later (September 2013), the heat pump did indeed die, and that's when the "fun" really began! American Air came out on several occasions, each time telling me a different component was bad and that they'd have to deal with the warranty company and then order the part. They never timely followed up with either me or the warranty company - I'd have to call them time and time again. One time, they delivered a new compressor to my house to be installed, but the person they sent told me he could do nothing with it until someone else came to help him because it was too heavy. Wouldn't you know that ahead of time? So, they just left me hanging for another week. I constantly had to run interference between them and the warranty company. I spoke with several people at the warranty company thinking perhaps they were the issue, but I am convinced they were not the problem - it was American Air. Either zero or poor communications with both me and the warranty company, missed appointments galore (their scheduling system is horrible - my wife and I would confirm an appointment, and when no one would show, they'd blame us!). Just plain bad service. My wife and I lost several days at work staying home while these people either didn't show or came out and failed to fix the unit. Finally, after about $3000 of part orders that did not fix the problem, they admitted to the warranty company that they could not fix the old unit. Well, the warranty company (ABC Warranty - very responsive and fair) IMMEDIATELY OK'ed a new unit. American Air came to install the new unit finally (it was now December of 2013), but forgot to perform certain installation requirements specified by the City of Columbus, who had come out to inspect the install, per Building Code. So, we had to call them again to come out and complete the job. That took several weeks - we were just not a priority by then. Finally, they came and the new heat pump install was complete. Then, in late Spring of this year, the internal coils in my new heat pump froze over. American Air came out several times, first saying the new unit needed more freon, then finally telling me I didn't have enough cold air return capacity in the house, which was causing the problem. Actually, they were right, but note that this conclusion comes 1 year after working on this system, and a basic design issue that should've been picked up right away. In any event, they suggested a new cold air return installed in a first floor hallway in close proximity to the furnace/AC unit itself. I told them I was concerned about the noise it would make. They assured me it would not make significant noise, so I agreed to the work. Well, I now have sufficient cold air return, but also what sounds like a jet engine on my first floor. Not an elegant fix, this was really a low quality patch job. I called them back out and when they heard it, they agreed it was too loud. They said they would have to install a new cold air return and would be back to me with a quote after their installer would come out to determine the specs for the job. That was in May of this past year. I still have not heard from them. I obviously went into the "black hole" for the umpteenth time. I am now looking at a new HVAC unit and contractor. American Air is not in the picture on that purchase. Oh, by the way, several months back, they did remember to bill me at that time for a service contract fee, which was nearly 1 year later in spite of the poor experience I had with them. Not sure I owed it, but I paid them because I never want to deal with them again. You have many choices for a HVAC provider, and if you're interested in this company, I'm sure there are some good people that work there - I encountered some of them in the past. But, God help you if you have to deal with the group I did. If you're asking me, I'd say hire someone else...

We have a Silver Planned Service Agreement (Discount Club) with this company, and have had one for a few years; this agreement covers heating and air conditioning only. The website indicates they also do plumbing work. On Tuesday morning, 8/26/2014, we realized that we had no hot water. I called the emergency line for plumbing and left at message at approximately 6:30am. The voicemail message said that we would hear from them within an hour. Two hours later I called the office and was told that not only had the emergency line not been checked, there would be no one available to come to the house until the following week. I do not consider this acceptable.for two reasons, not responding to the emergency call in the timely manner indicated in the voicemail message and not being able to get service for a hot water tank for several days. We received the renewal information for the service agreement recently and will not be renewing it for the upcoming year. Another company we called, based on Angie's List, came the same day and fixed the problem with the hot water tank quickly and at a reasonable price. This company not only has a similar maintenance contract as American Heating, it is also it at a lower price. even with including the hot water tank in the contract for an extra $20.

I would highly recommend them. Our furnace was all grim when we moved in then it got to 9 degrees below and it pooped out. We called the warranty company and they were here within four hours. They rigged up the furnace so we could manually start it until the warranty company got back with them to tell them what they were gonna do. Once that was settled, they sent a salesman out at nine o'clock that night to talk to us about upgrading to a more efficient unit because the furnace was either $1700.00 to repair or they would put in an eighty percent effiecient unit at that price. We went with an upgrade and that was on a Wednesday and they were out here on Friday putting in a new furnace in the airconditioner. We consider that to be pretty good and it's worked like a charm ever since. They were really good. Some companies would come in her and say, "Well, you're out of heat until we can get a new furnace in." But this guy rigged it up somehow. We had to go down, take a door off, push this little socket in then he told us to run it until it was 85 degrees in the house and don't let it drop back down to 70-68 degrees. So it's either we roasted or froze. He didn't have to do that but he found a way to do it and he was really honest about it. He said, "This is burned up, this is burned up, more upgrade." When they said they were gonna be here on Friday to install it, they were here ahead of schedule. They did everything they were supposed to do.
