He built a deck and carport for me and did a few other small jobs this is my first home so I wasn't sure about how everything works with permits and such. I asked him at least twice if I needed to get any permits as did my boyfriend he said no that because they are free standing structures and that didn't require any permits. I believed him because he came recommended by a family member. Everything looked great when they were done. Well someone complained to the city about the carport. I got so many violations from the city for no zoning permits. I was upset because he didn't direct me in the correct manner. He then stated he would have charged me an extra 3,000 dollars and the job would have taken longer. Well I wasn't on a time schedule at all. I never once said I needed it done now or that I was in a hurry. After dealing with the city then I had to go to the county to get building permits. They needed drawing and he told me he doesn't do drawings. He did some and they were incorrect. Stating the carport was in the ground and in fact is anchored to the driveway. He came and put footers on one side and not the other while the inspector was here so now I'm stuck with a deck and a carport that they won't pass because he wasn't me to pay him more money to put footer in when he should have put footers in to begin with.
