We had a couple things we wanted to change, and they were great about that. We are very happy with the results. Ultimately, we are getting what we wanted.

They were very professional and very satisfactory. They did an excellent job. They charge for it but they do very good work. It was a very good job on the roof deck. They used pressure treated wood on the roof deck that wouldn't tear so easily. They were courteous and polite. They accidentally knocked over one of my flood lights. They were honest about it and told me. They had to work out in a lot of heat because the deck faced east.
Description of Work: They took care of a shed door that I had a problem with. They had to dig it out and add a gravel base. It did not have a foundation and it shifted around. They knew how to take care of it. They took care of a fence that I had a problem with. They put on a new storm door. I needed a whole new entire roof deck put over the deck. They had to do it all from the top.

No work was performed, not even an estimate.
Description of Work: When contacted, I was told there would be a $20 estimate fee. I said "No thanks!"I guess that explains the reference about free estimates "Ask for details".
Rating CategoryRating out of 5

Response from Punch Out Plus LLC
No, that certainly does not explain the reference about free estimates “Ask for details”. Angie’s List does not provide enough space to adequately explain our estimate fee policy on their web site. Therefore, Angie’s List provided the reference “Ask for details” so that members may inquire about our estimate fee policy. We are a family owned and operated business. The nominal estimate fee helps offset expenses, which in turn allows us to keep our hourly rate lower. In addition, we have found that people who are serious about having the work performed do not mind paying the fee. There is a minimum of one hour travel time in addition to walking the potential job with member, tracking down appropriate materials, calculating the estimate, phoning the cost and detailed scope of work in to member and answering member’s questions. Contracts detailing the scope of work and dollar amount quoted are always submitted upon acceptance of verbal quote for member’s signature prior to commencement of work. Proposals detailing scope of work and dollar amount quoted are always submitted upon request when member wants to see quote in writing. Members, please consider the costs involved in running a legitimate business including but not limited to advertising, fuel, truck maintenance, vehicle insurance, general liability insurance, health insurance, affiliation memberships, BWC and City fees associated with licensing and registration.

They were prompt to call us back to set a date for the estimate. It ended up being a week before they showed up for the estimate and they charged $20. It was non-refundable and the estimate came in higher than the rest. We decided not to use this company and go a different way.

I couldn't be happier! The guys were perfectionists and I didn't have to hang around and micro-manage.
Description of Work: We had cracks around the seams of our 32' panned ceiling. One seam was bowed due to work performed by a previous contractor last year who suggested that we just round out all of the angles in the ceiling for uniformity. Don's team brought their own scaffolding, pulled out bad seams and straightened the angles and painted. It was perfect! The estimate was spot on, the guys arrived on time and finished the job 2 days ahead of time. Also included in the cost was shaving down a solid oak door for a better fit.

The quotation was very professional and more detailed than others we received. I asked the company's owner about a pending dispute that I saw and Angie's List, and he was clearly agitated while discussing it, and it made me feel that it might be hard to work with him. He could have easily said that these misunderstandings happen from time-to-time, but instead went into a lot of negative detail regarding his customer - an elderly woman and her attorney son. After I reviewed his quote, there were areas where you have responsibility, and this company may charge you an hourly rate until you complete your portion of the project if they are on-site, and you aren't ready. Attempts to clarify through his assistant, Davina, while provided, led me to believe that this company was losing interest in me too. I decided not to go forward with this company.
Description of Work: This company charges $20 to provide an estimate. In this case for fencing and deck repair from a fallen tree, plus improvements to the same. The combined quotes were for about $5,000 of labor and materials.

Response from Punch Out Plus LLC
Please note the estimate performed for this member was on December 9, 2009, and written estimates were dated December 28, 2009. We did not perform any work for this member. Yes, I was angry and agitated discussing the dispute with this member because the allegations in the report are untrue. It upsets me when someone reports lies to Angie’s List, as my reputation is all I have in this field. We submitted two written estimates to this member, one to submit to his insurance company to replace damaged portions of his fence and deck due to a fallen tree and a second estimate unrelated to the tree damage to replace 13 deck boards, power wash and stain deck. Member wanted to provide stain and some of the deck boards, as he already had this material. Member’s material was to be provided upon commencement of work, per the estimate. There were some deck boards in member’s garage that member wanted used first, then we were to provide the remaining deck boards. It was unclear during the estimate how many deck boards member had as they were in member’s garage trapped under a car that no longer worked. The car literally was parked on top of the boards, therefore, it was impossible to count the boards, let alone remove all of the boards from under the car. Member claims “there were areas where you have responsibility, and this company may charge you an hourly rate until you complete your portion of the project if they are on-site, and you aren’t ready.” specifically refers to one area, not areas, stating member would be charged hourly if member’s material was not present and available upon commencement of work. It would be unfair to our craftsman to incur downtime because member’s material was unavailable. This clause is present in all contracts when member’s provide material, and rightfully so, as we certainly don’t want our craftsman to lose a day’s pay for something beyond the craftsman’s and/or our control. Member is misleading, we do not lose interest in any client. Davina followed up on several occasions in January and February; member lead Davina to believe we would be awarded the contracts but he was currently attempting to negotiate with his insurance company. As this project would be performed in Spring, Davina advised member to contact us when he was ready to move forward. We never heard from him.

This company was professional in the manner in which they answered and returned phone calls. They came on time to take a look at what I needed. Turns out the estimate was twice as much as I ended up paying for the job. My expectation was if I pay for an estimate, I get an actual documented estimate. Instead, they left me a phone message a few days later and said, "The work is $1500, which includes crediting you for the estimate charge and any Angie's List coupon you have." I specifically requested a breakdown of the addition for an electrical component and did not receive it. It sounded like a ballpark number with no specifics, which is frustrating because I paid money for it.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for $20.00 for some work to install desk in kitchen area.

Response from Punch Out Plus LLC
If our estimate was twice as much as what member paid for the job obviously the scope of work and/or materials proposed was not identical to ours. According to Don’s notes, he left detailed messages for member June 15th and June 17th stating $1,500 total price, includes $400 for electrical work and deductions of Angie’s List discount and estimate fee. Don followed up June 22nd leaving his third and final message. Davina followed up July 9th leaving a fourth detailed message. The member never once returned our phone calls, nor requested a written estimate. Don performs hundreds of estimates in any given year and provides written estimates upon request. Clearly, Don would need to hire a fulltime employee just to process estimates, which certainly isn’t cost effective, especially in today’s economy.

He didn?t give me any kind of written estimate, I had to get it over the phone after I called. About a week later I got a call from the office wanting to schedule the work which means they assumed I would take this bogus estimate. I felt he was really trying to take advantage of me as a woman, as if I was stupid and wouldn?t understand he was trying to gouge me on the price. When he was here he pontificated on his political views. He basically hates our new president and really exclaimed his bias, which I felt was unprofessional. I would not consider him in the future.
Description of Work: I had him out to give an estimate to repair my soffits and add about 14 inches of insulation. His estimate was between $2,500.00 and $3,500.00 and I ended up getting the work done separately, by two different companies for $1,700.00.

Response from Punch Out Plus LLC
Member made several misleading statements in her “description of work” and flat out lied in “member comments”. According to our records, member requested an estimate to replace rotten soffits, install gutter guards, insulate attic, remove carpet and pad in living room, dining room, hallway and 2 closets and replace with hardwood flooring, and remove older asbestos flooring in 3 rooms of lower level and replace with other type of flooring in which member was undecided at the time. The estimate was both performed and provided in a timely manner. Don advised member during the assessment of work that he would call her with itemized estimate. The itemized estimate Don provided is not within the range member stated. Don left member a message on her answering machine November 20, 2009 indicating he would try her back the next day between 10a and 12p with itemized prices. Don called back the next day as promised, spoke to member and provided itemized prices. Member did not request a written estimate. Davina followed up November 27th and member indicated they were “considering what they can afford at this time”. Again, member did not request a written estimate. A few questions Don has for member: 1) are the 2 companies member hired licensed? 2) were the materials used identical to what we would have used? 3) was the scope of work performed identical to what we would have performed? 4) did the other companies pay their craftsman near union wages? Most likely the answers to all questions are no. Don is a licensed General Home Improvement Contractor and a General Contractor. Most often, the materials and scope of work are not the same; Don always uses superior materials and performs more in-depth, comprehensive and thorough work than our competitors. Member did not receive a written estimate because she did not contract with us to perform the work, nor did she request a written estimate at any time. Don performs literally hundreds upon hundreds of estimates each year. Clearly, it just isn’t feasible to provide a written estimate for each and every estimate Don performs. Don would have to hire another full-time person just to generate written estimates, which in turn would increase prices. We always provide a written estimate upon verbal acceptance, or upon request, detailing the scope of work and dollar amount quoted. We have received many compliments on our written estimates not only on their appearance but most importantly about how much more detailed and thorough they are than our competitors. Every single written estimate we provide adheres to required laws and the Consumer Sales Practices Act. Our office never once called member “wanting to schedule the work”. Don is the only person that schedules production and does so only upon receipt of a signed contract. We never once “assumed I would take this bogus estimate” because our estimate was not a “bogus” estimate in any way, shape or form. Don provided fair and competitive prices. We are not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. Don certainly did not take advantage of her, especially for being a woman. We would not be in business if Don took advantage of people by providing bogus estimates attempting to gouge them, or more importantly because they are women. We believe our record speaks for itself. We have won 28 Super Service Awards since becoming an Angie’s List service provider in 2001, and have won 4 ACE (Achievement in Consumer Excellence) Awards since becoming a NARI member in 2007. In addition, we hold an A+ rating with the BBB. Members, please check out our “bogus” (can’t help being facetious!) web site at www.punchoutplus.com. We’ve also received many compliments on our web site for being so professional and nice looking. From time to time for whatever reason politics does come up. Each time Don asks many questions and shares his opinion as well. Don doesn’t hate our president; he simply has a lot of questions. In the future, Don will keep his opinions to himself.

Don Britton came to my residence to give me a quote on remodeling my family room and doing some drywall work in some other areas of the house. He was prompt in getting back to me six days later with an estimate of $8700. I accepted his proposal but he said that he needed to make another inspection of my house to firm up the price before he would write up the contract. He said that he would have his wife call in a couple of days and schedule the inspection. When I didn't get the phone call I called them six days later and talked to Don's wife who said she would let him know I called. It's been over a month since that call and I haven't heard anything back from them. In addition to the lost time I paid $20 for the estimate!

Overall, it went very well. The plumber was especially good.
Description of Work: They did a number of different things in our house: replaced three old toilets; repaired a few plumbing leaks (including one that was in the wall behind the washing machine); ran a hose to vent the bathroom fan to the outside instead of into the attic (as it was previously); and replaced a whole bunch of wood trim around the house which had rotted away. The last item was the most expensive of the lot.

We had already called Punch Out Plus and scheduled work for May 19. Then we had a small house fire that required immediate repair. I called Davina with my problem and was put on the schedule quickly. Rodney fixed all the issues listed above for 5-12 and we are so grateful. He even had time to put on the first coat of mud, which saved me lots of time. This man worked very hard and never really took a break. On May 19, 2010, Bill came out to do the work listed above. Bill got to work right away. He kept me abreast of how things were going and discussed issues he was facing. For example, I knew the door needed to be cut off on the bottom to clear the carpet and the top to clear duct work. However, a large gap was evident at the top around the door frame. He fiqured out a way to add a piece to the door jam which conceals the gap and doesn't allow the light the shine thru the gap. Changing the light fixture from a pull cord to a light switch required Bill to cut 2 small holes in the family room wall and ceiling to fish the wire thru. He repaired the wall and now it is ready for paint. He repaired the ceiling drywall with his texture brush and no one can tell there was a hole there! When I got the bill from the company, Davina included a personal note about an upcoming family event I told her about. I am very pleased with all the work they did and will be using them again in the very near future.
Description of Work: May12, 2010, Rodney came out to remove and replace drywall that had been damaged in a fire and reinsulated the area. He also secured plumbing pipes. May 19, 2010, Bill came out and installed a hollowcore door (hinges and door knob), modified door jam to alleviate large gap, removed and installed a new light fixture which included running electric to a new light switch and dry wall repair, installed slider doors, cut and installed 25 lf of baseboards.

Bill is great. He cleans up after his work, takes all of the waste away and does as little damage as possible. The bathroom has wallpaper and he tried very hard to make sure as it could be repaired or replace. He is very considerate, polite and professional. He always explained what and why he was doing the work.
Description of Work: Downstairs bathroom drywall became wet and soggy. Bill discovered that the toilet in the 1/2 bath was installed incorrectly when the prior owner replaced the floors. Further inspection showed that 2 more toilets were also installed wrong. Bill fixed all 3 toilets, took down the drywall where needed to allow all areas to dry. Based on a prior quote, he determined that our jet tub drain had a small leak and one jet needed sealed. He arrived at 8:00 a.m. and left at 3:00 p.m. but all areas were fixed. He came back 2 weeks later to repair and finish the drywall that was removed.
