+ -1 moreJon is a pleasure to work with. Very proactive and responsive to my needs. Anticipates problem areas and comes up with solutions which he presents. My yard has never looked better. We've had Jon for three houses over a period of 15 years. Every spring, Jon comes out and we walk the yard together talking about what to plant, what to change, etc. Wonderful designer; my patio gets complements from everyone. The pond is beautiful. too. Higher priced than the average designer, but Jon is NOT the average designer. It's money well-spent. I can't praise him enough.
Description of Work: Weeded, trimmed plantings, cleaned out pond, cleared out leaves and brush, swept and blew away debris.

+ 2 moreI arranged for John to do my Spring clean-up including removal of a storm-related hanging branch. His company also provided a significant amount of mulch, edged four or five large beds and thinned out a medium-sized tree as well as a very difficult honeysuckle bush on the side of my driveway. The bush is quite difficult to get to due to the steep decline in the driveway. We set up two separate appointments due to the need to wait for the honeysuckle bush to come into full bloom allowing for a more effective trimming. John was always very prompt with his return calls and consistently kept me updated as to his progress and need for return due to any weather related issues. I plan to use his company for my landscaping needs in the upcoming years.
Description of Work: Mulching, trimming of several trees, edging a number of beds.

Description of Work: I bought a house that had an absolutely unusable backyard. Full of stumps, rocks and ragged grass. I came across John Holkenborg through a direct mail campaign. We meet and I was immediately impressed with his professionalism and the range of knowledge he possessed. Not only is he a very talented landscape designer but he is a very handson landscaper/gardener who was planting and weeding along with his crew. He listened to us, designed a remarkable plan that incorporated what we wanted and included lots of his own ideas that were beyond anything I had imaged. He stayed within the budget and now I have a yard that is an extension of out house giving us extra living space and is a true wonder and a pleasure to watch all year round. I highly recommend John.

+ 0 moreJohn worked extensively with me to design the yard "remodel". The crew was always on time every work morning and cleaned up at the end of the day. Access to the yard for our two dogs was also provided at the end of the day. John is very meticulous and a perfectionist, and it shows. I have always been very pleased with the final outcome of each of his projects. I have used him for two of my houses previous to this one. I am sure he contributed immensely to the resale value.
Description of Work: Provided two phase landscaping plan. Phase One:Terraced back yard, leaving existing woods intact. Removed two dead and dying trees. Buried overhead lines. Defined terraces with boulders. Dug out and constructed recycling pond with waterfall. Built custom circular stone patio, with partial wall for seating. Built stone raised bed the width of the house. Planted trees, shrubs and perennials according to plan. Built stone steps into house. Sodded new grass area. Phase Two: (not yet completed) Planting additional shrubs and perennials.
