They came a day early, which was fine. The employees were not wearing face coverings, but I did not challenge it. They cleaned 4 fireplaces in my home, which took about 15 minutes each. I asked them to look at some outside fire pits, which they did, and I asked them about the possibility of adding a gas heater to my solarium. The employees were excellent, but asked for $540.00 in charges. This was extreme, in my opinion, since they only spent 1 1/2 hours total. I called the company the next day and was given the run around. They eventually referred me to the owner, who never called back. I expected a reduced charge, since I only paid around $200.00 the last time of service. They could not explain their charge plan satisfactorily. I feel that they were price gouging, since their is little competition in their field. I will not be using their services in the future.

Response from Buckeye Stoves
In response to your email to Buckeye Stoves and to Angie’s list, I apologize you are not happy with our price and I would like to clarify some issues. Thank you for reaching out to us. When you called to schedule Gas Service for 4 units that we had serviced in the past (last service call 12/13/2016), you then indicated you had 2 more units that you would like us to service. I did explain the service call amount would be $130.00 per unit. At that time, you did not show any concern or ask any questions about the cost. On 11/19/20, I gave you a courtesy reminder call of the appointment for 11/20/2020 servicing 4 units. On 11/20/2020 our technicians did sweep 4 units, gave you an estimate for a vent free gas unit for the sunroom and briefly inspected gas patio units. (Which you were not charged for). Total time that was spent was 1 hour and 25 minutes. You called on 11/21/2020 and stated your concerns about price gouging. I explained to you the per unit charge for each unit. You then stated that back in 01/15/2015, 11/02/2015 and in 12/12/2016; you were charged 1 service call for all units’ serviced. I researched and viewed 2015 and 2016 invoices. Our pricing structure was the same in 2015 and 2016. With the owner’s assistance, it is unknown why our previous technicians charged for 1 call when multiple units were serviced. We do try to be fair on our prices. Out of concern, I did call several local service companies comparing prices on servicing. The responses were $95.00/ unit plus and $76/hour for the first ½ hour then anything after that would be based in increments of $76.00/hr. Again, I apologize you do not feel the pricing is fair. We value you as a customer and want your business. We strive to be transparent and go through pricing at time of scheduling which we did. We are competitive with other local service companies such as Heating, Cooling and Air Condition and Plumbing companies. Sincerely, Candy Harrington Buckeye Stoves

Excellent, superb! They are the best!
Description of Work: They cleaned and provided maintenance to my Heatilator Peninsula gas fireplace. This is the second time they have serviced my fireplace. They do an excellent job. My fireplace looks brand new! They are very detailed as they take the fireplace completely apart and clean the wood and all of the mechanical parts, including the electrical wires and rocks! My glass looks brand new. Two years ago, we had hired another company to clean the fireplace, a certified dealer, who tried to say we needed to purchase new glass, ect. at a very high price. We decided to get another opinion from Buckeye Stoves and they came out and didn't sell a thing. They cleaned everything, so we hired them again this year and we are more than satisfied for their work. We look forward to only working with them in the future.

We visited their showroom to discuss the problems we were having with our old gas log fireplace. We explained the cold air back drafts we had when the fireplace was off. We also discussed the high price of propane and how expensive it was to heat the entire house. After describing our home, the size, and our temperature preferences, they recommended a Harman Accentra pellet stove insert to replace the gas log; it could easily heat our entire home. We scheduled a visit by their installers to look over the existing fireplace and tell me what needed to be done before the pellet insert could be installed. I volunteered to remove the gas line, install a dedicated 110V circuit for the new stove, and shrink the opening of the fireplace to accommodate the new insert. While they were there, my wife asked about upgrading to a brown porcelain exterior and installing fake logs to give it a wood-burning look. To my surprise, they recommended against both upgrades (porcelain chips easily and the fake logs make it harder to clean the insert). It's not often that given a chance, someone doesn't try to upsell to make a few dollars. I was impressed with their integrity and honesty. On the day of the installation they laid down drop cloths from the front door to the fireplace. They were very courteous with both of us, explaining what they were doing and how the venting would work. They were very neat and clean with the installation; it was completed in under 4 hours. They showed up when they said they would and actually took less time to install it then they thought it would take. When the installation was complete, they showed us how to light it and demonstrated how we needed to clean it on a weekly basis. When they left, our home was as clean as when they arrived. My wife and I were very impressed with the professionalism of the installers as well as the sales staff. This was a pleasant experience from beginning to end. I highly recommend Buckeye Stoves to anyone in the central Ohio area who needs a wood/pellet stove or fireplace insert.
